So I visited here again today for lunch. I tried the Friday gumbo special but I was disappointed in the value....it was $10 for a small 4 oz container of gumbo and rice. The taste was great but small. I also did not like the boudin ball. I'm used to them being very meaty and flavorful but this tasted like rice and lacked serious flavor. Three boudin balls was also $8.50 and not worth it. The best thing here are the po boys and the macaroni and cheese. I wouldn't venture out and buy anything else from here again. read more

Very small and family owned business my family truly enjoyed. Don't get fooled by outside. Lot of neighboring suites are empty. Staff were extremely nice with excellent service. Everyone tried the shrimp Po Boy which was straight !! We so had shrimp and grits that was good too. Lastly (don't judge me) but the lemonade was to die for! It was like a slush lemonade. This is a decent small restaurant. I ordered the shrimp platter with a side of jambalaya and curly fries. The jambalaya needed more spice and seasoning. I do understand that they probably turn it down a notch because of the clients not being able to take the heat. My shrimp was fried perfectly and the curly fries are the seasoned kinds. If you do go to this restaurant in a big group, be prepared for the food to come out in waves. This is a pro and con because at least you know the food is fresh and made to order. I finally tried On The Bayou tonight. IT WAS AMAZING! One of the best po' boys I have had in a long time. The gumbo was packed full of flavor. Went when they first opened at 5pm. Ordered a shrimp po boy 10in (but they did not have 10in poboys so I settled for 8in) with Cajun fries and beignets. The fries were decent nothing amazing but not disappointed. The beignets were doughy and tasted like raw dough. The, what I assume is, powdered sugar were just clumps. Ooooh Weeee! If you want some cajun food, this place is your go to. It does have a limited menu so if you are looking for an assortment for your picky eaters, this is not your place. Today I had the Chicken Gumbo and received a fair sized bowl. The heat is good (not New Orleans heat) and was very flavorful. My only issue is the price... However, rent in the strip mall and usually a one or two person team working, they could probably lower everything a buck and still be rocking and rolling. Probably because they are only open Thursday-Saturday. So get over here to Racetrack Rd. and get you some of the best Creole in Henry County and probably the Southside! read more

Great creol restuarant. I've lived all over the country and, the world. There are certain foods from my home of origin (Texas) that I am very particular about; barbecue, Mexican and, cajun/creole. Though Texas is not Louisiana, that culture has a strong influence on us particularly as a bordering state. On The Bayou is the first and only creole restaurant I've eaten since I've been in Georgia but, i will stubborn enough to say this is the best creole restaurant in the state! The staff is warm and, welcoming. I'm not familiar with staff names but, I will say the older lady who seemingly runs the place is just as sweet as can be. I stopped by earlier this week because I had a taste for gumbo. Disappointingly I was informed that they only served gumbo on fridays. I'm straight forward in the things I want so, I didn't bother with ordering anything else but, with a monk like patients I returned Friday and boy was it worth the wait. I ordered 2 large orders of gumbo, 1 chicken and, the other sea food. Once i got home and, opened the container it was off to the races. The gumbo was spicy but, not to the point where the heat over powered the flavor. I'm not sure what brand of sausage they used or if it was house made but it definitely had an authentic cajun taste to it (did not taste store bought). I will definitely be back and, I will definitely try other items on their menu. On They Bayou is awesome. You should check it out today! read more

Stopped on the very first reviewers suggestion. So glad I did. They said hello as we walked in the door. Told us to have a seat they would take our order at the table. We ordered 2 lg shrimp Poboy. Bowl of gumbo and 2 lemonades. Everything was excellent. The shrimp we're seasoned perfectly, the bread was so soft and good but not too soft the sandwich held up well. The gumbo was tasty with the good andouie (sp) sausage and chicken. They were out of seafood gumbo. The lemonade was very good and not syrupy sweet but not tart just right. Came here for lunch on a Friday afternoon. The restaurant was busy with both dine-in and carry out customers. We dined in and placed our order at the counter. We ordered the seafood platter with fried shrimp and catfish, and fried shrimp platter with seafood gumbo as one of the side items. The food was well seasoned, delicious and plentiful. The seafood gumbo was very tasty and was full of shrimp and crawfish. We also ordered a slice of pound cake to go. The slice was huge and enough to share. The cake was moist and fantastic! I believe the owner was the person who took our order and also prepared our meal. She was wonderful and provided great customer service. We will definitely frequent this restaurant. I assume it was the manager/owner I was speaking to because she was very knowledgeable about the business and Louisiana. They didn't have any printed menus but they had it listed on a billboard type thing on the wall. The decor was nice and relaxing! Kind of gave you a restaurant fell as oppose to grabbing a quick bite to eat. I eventually ordered the catfish po boy (it was the only fish offered I noticed) and was asked if I wanted it fried hard or soft. I opted for it to be soft. Within minutes it was done. -side note: she offered me some seafood Mac and cheese while i waited. The Mac and cheese was good and creamy but the only seafood I noticed were the shrimp and they were tiny. Would I order it myself hmmm maybe, but i would want more seafood and larger shrimp- Back to the po boy. It was dressed with pickles, tomatoes, lettuce and remoulade sauce. I don't believe that to have been a genuine baguette because the sandwich was soggy after after 4 minutes of being wrapped up. However, I can't take away from that amazing FLAVOR!!!! It was DELICIOUS!! A true hidden gem in McDonough. To have me boast about catfish is rare because I rarely if ever eat catfish. Nonetheless, I would definitely return. Have been here twice. Ordered po'boys: catfish and shrimp = delicious and great portions. Seafood Mac and cheese -- just ok. And reg fries. Because everything is TO GO - the fries were hot but totally SOFT when I arrived at home. Also bread was soggy from sauce. I am giving it 5 stars because the food is consistently delicious and the service is friendly and on point. I received 2 catfish (fried hard upon request) fillets with the works. Man I tore that sandwich up, the sauce is heavenly good, soft tasteful bread with fresh tomatoes/lettuce. I was excited to see a new and different in McDonough. Especially one that is locally owned. I went in for lunch and I ordered a Oyster Po Boy and a small side of Seafood Mac and Cheese and Lemonade. This was $16. It was okay but the guy working the counter was nice. Two people came in asking for Gumbo but they were told it was only available on Fridays. So I went back Friday with my son and husband. We ordered one small bowl and one large of Seafood Gumbo, my husband got a large bowl of Chicken Gumbo, an appetizer of Boudin Balls and three drinks. It was $52. We got all of it at once. My husband got a large bowl of seafood Gumbo. We immediately knew it was wrong but the guy said no, it was Chicken. We called him back over and showed him the mini shrimp in it. He came back with a SMALL bowl of Chicken Gumbo. The 3 Boudin Balls were $9.95 and were just deep fried rice. We could not taste or see any pork. All of our items were served on plastic plates, expect for our soup. It was served in styrofoam bowls with plastic forks. The drinks were in plastic cups as well. The Gumbo was sub par at best. They used miniature frozen shrimp and I could not see any other as seafood in it. It tasted like something you would get out of a can. This meal with pre-paid tip was $65!!! We could have gone to a nice sit down dinner for this price. We love to support locally owned businesses but at this price and quality we cannot recommend this establishment. Hopefully they will read this review and step it up. read more

Nice people but unfortunately I don't see it lasting much longer. Their PO BOY prices have raised and they do not come with fries. At the current price you'd expect it to be the best PO BOY you've had but it's not even on the correct bread. We came to this restaurant specifically for the Friday Special of chicken and sausage gumbo but unfortunately they have decided that it is no longer a menu item. I first heard rumor of this place from the mom of a local celebrity chef and have been wanting to pay it a visit since last summer. Today afforded me just such an opportunity and I ordered a half muffuletta to go. The chef/owner explained that the bread is shipped in from Louisiana, as is the olive salad (tapenade). She allows the sandwich to mature overnight so that the oil soaks into the bread in *just* such a way as to properly marry the ingredients. I took my order back to the ship and dined in my cabin. The bread isn't soggy, the meat and cheese has a great texture and the tapenade has just the right amount of spunk without being distracting. It's as fine a muffuletta as you'll find in Atlantarrrr and I am very happy to say that I'll be going back again to try out her seafood dishes. I dithered over sharing this place with my crew, but have decided that it be best to keep her afloat for a good long time, so please do go give her a whirl! read more
