They have several different butters but they don't explain what is in each (on DD or their website) so i got lemon pepper trap butter and my friend got trap or die. We didn't know what flavor it was but it was spicy. The flavor was just okay. I wish i took a pic of the food but we both got the 1lb of crab legs with shrimp, eggs, corn, potatoes and sausage. This place is Bomb! First of all, it's a small place in a tiny plaza. If you blink, you might miss this hidden gem. Not only was my server/bar tender Mikaela a sweetheart, the food was excellent! This is not your typical, cookie- cutter crab chain, they make everything from scratch.. including their crab sauces. I got a mix of the special and garlic. It was soooooo good. If you are looking for an inclusive and welcoming environment, avoid The Crab Trap House. My father and I came here for the first time, and from the moment we walked in, we experienced what felt like blatant homophobia and discriminatory service. While other guests were warmly greeted at the door, we were completely ignored. This set the tone for the entire meal. THE OWNER went out of his way to be friendly, engaging, and chatty with other tables. But when it came to us, he refused to even speak and looked visibly uncomfortable just being near our table when collecting the grit samples. The contrast in how we were treated compared to everyone else was glaring and completely unacceptable. The food and atmosphere certainly didn't make up for the disrespect. We spent $50 (including tip) for salmon croquettes, catfish, and grits. While the grits were fine, the fish portions were small, painfully dry, and overly salty. To make matters worse, they only provide cheap plastic utensils and no knives, making the meal incredibly frustrating to actually eat. All of this was set to music blasting through a massive speaker so loudly that my father and I couldn't even hear each other talk. Save your money. The interior was pleasantly decorated for their anniversary. The waitress seated us promptly and took our drink orders. Even though one of my coworkers didn't like his drink, the waitress quickly tried to accommodate him. We were given a complimentary tasting of their grits, and it was packed with flavor. I ordered the 2 clusters with 2 eggs & potatoes in Trap Spicy butter. I would rate my order an 4 out of 5. I felt the clusters could've been cleaned better. And I need more sauce ( as shown in my pics you can hardly see sauce). The Trap Spicy Butter was spicy I like it. My friend had the 2 clusters tray which came with sausage/eggs/potato in the Trap Garlic butter. He said the Trap Butter needed more garlic to taste more like garlic butter. He gave it a 4/5. As a DC/Maryland resident i can say these are the worst blue crabs I've ever had! Overcooked, unseasoned and the size is criminal as I'm pretty sure they were baby crabs -- not even close to small females. And the $4 corn was one (1) cob cut up into 5 pieces. I ordered online and it was a very simple process. Food was ready when I got there which is always a good thing to me. The catfish was seasoned and fried PERFECTLY! Literally was smacking while I ate it. The lemon pepper wings were a bit salty but the wings were fried just right! I will just order another flavor next time. Unfortunately the fries were trash. I'm a huge fry lover and when I looked at the reviews for this restaurant, the pictures all contained crinkle fries which is partially why I decided to try this place out. Let's really get into it. I came here for lunch on a random Wednesday. The restaurant is located in a plaza off Forest Parkway -- Seems a little random : however The inside was cute and gave off sports bar vibes. the description on yelp states "classy". I wouldn't say, classy - very casual. They have a small host stand when you first walk in. There was a balloon arch theme for Valentine's Day. There's several tables around the area as well-- it's not a large space at all. But if you wanted to sit in and dine, it's enough space to feel comfortable. They have several seafood options, both fried, and steamed/boiled. The restaurant does have an Atlanta flare to it as far as the "trap" and branding. They have a full bar inside , with seating area around it. some of the drinks on the drink menu look interesting I was returning back to work so I was unable to try them -- this may be somewhere to have a cocktail / get out the house in the less populated area on the southside. Again the spacing isn't overly large so if you're going to drink with a friend or two, this could be a cool meet spot. Now the food--I personally did not care for the meal I got. I had the fried catfish lunch special. And I'm unsure if the grease was old or the food wasn't properly thawed because my fries were soggy, but they also weren't fried well. The outside was soggy, but the inside was still very firm. Same thing with the fish you would think it was fried hard from the appearance on the outside; when in fact, it was not. The batter on the fish could have been good, but I'm not sure about the taste - and again I blame this on the grease. I may have came on a bad day. I'll try something boiled and update my review but as of now, I wouldn't go out my way to come here. , they do have a point system where for every 100 points --you receive you get five dollars off. my meal came up to about $ 7 and change and I tipped so I received six points . The server that was behind the bar was very nice- talked me through the menu; and had an overall welcoming personality. I did not take pictures of my food - and I wish I did; the presentation and everything was fine. The quality was very subpar. I got my food to go, so I can't expand on the dine in service. Did not know what to expect, but we are so happy we chose this restaurant. When you walk in R&B music playing the atmosphere is very chill and not very fancy. We were greeted very warmly and excitingly! I couldn't believe this was actually a place that welcomed and wanted customers! I had the shrimp appetizer with plain garlic butter and spicy garlic butter. My wife had the catfish combo and I had the chicken wing combo. She had french fries with her catfish and I had fried corn with my chicken wings. One of the waitresses stated that we should try the food before putting any type of condiments on it. So we did as we were instructed, and we were both happy we followed her rules. The food is seasoned perfectly the catfish was fried perfectly; crunchy, and juicy. The chicken was fried perfectly I chose to get the chicken wings without the batter and they were nice and crispy and juicy. The sauces I chose were delicious. The only complaint I have is that the chicken wings could have been bigger but I do understand that the chicken wings that we get nowadays that are bigger are actually not the correct size. But, they were so good I was wishing they were bigger! We had already told them we would be back the next time we visit! The Crab TrapHouse NEVER misses! From amazing customer service (KP at the bar is a GEM), to delicious seafood, and then economical prices! I am a fan and will always patronize this restaurant. I typically sit at the bar just because I love the candor that comes from KP and staff but also the other patrons (lost of regulars like me). There is always a good conversation going and good music in the background. As far as food, I am a fan of their calamari for sure. Always fried crispy and flavorful. I am also a huge fan of their fried corn. I could eat this buttery goodness daily! It is sooo good! I tried to replicate at home...nope! Did not compare to what they whip up in the kitchen. "Man give these folks a try!!" Absolutely delicious. The fried whiting was so tasty. The fried shrimp was fried to perfection, along with some fresh fries. We also had the shrimp boil with the trap spicy sauce. Good authentic N. Florida seafood. Make sure you try the fried calamari and corn.
