We arrived a little after 11am and only had a 20 minute wait for brunch. We lucked out and were seated downstairs which was very cozy, warm, and super cute. My mother had her heart set on the baked oatmeal, but they were out! Bummer! I suggest that if you plan on going that you call in advance and ask them to set you one aside. For a group of 4, we opted for the grilled cheese, swedish pancake, and the "On Orange" special. The pancaked tasted just like the baked oatmeal, but less calories(I hope) and it was extremely good! Experience! Had a nice Sunday breakfast travelling through Lancaster from Philly on the way eventually to Pittsburgh, next stop Gettysburg - after flying in from Oakland, CA. There are plenty of good restaurants in the S.F. Bay Area and On Orange would fit right in. As would Bittersweet near the weird Nemacolin resort we stayed at. Nice downtown storefront location up a few steps from the sidewalk, inside is quirky with a dining area with eating / ordering bar counter and a downstairs that felt speakeasy historic with bathrooms, more dining area and a backyard. Food was great, a limited menu but had a grilled cheese sandwich and nice small salad for brunch with a great (never had one before) Swedish pancake accompaniment. The grilled cheese kindof a panini had three kinds of cheese and was really good, excellent salad. The place felt like a home and restaurant with nice artwork, big windows, good service and obviously a lot of care and thought put in to giving people a nice experience, which we had. ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC! I was looking for an authentic friendly home-style Amish breakfast and what we found was a trendy and homey family restaurant. It was as if I had gone back in time to old city Lancaster and walked into a hip coffee bar. The cooks had gauges in their ears and the lady serving us had on a pair of overalls. The food, wow... the food. IN.CRED.I.BLE!!! Everyone one of the staff was so friendly and would stop to chat and ensure you were enjoying your meal. If you are in Lancaster this is a MUST STOP restaurant. By the way, I had the Cream Chipped Beef (see photo #13) It was HUGE!! And so deliciously creamy! My fiance had the egg sandwich- and the BREAD IS AMAZING! You MUST eat the bread!! While it is brought in from a place around philly it is the sweetest and lightest dough- it's almost like a pastry. I love their creativity and I would never have thought to put Kim chee in Mac n cheese ever! I had the pork chop with Korean bbq sauce, the Mac and kimcheese and asian styled spinach. My dining partner had the lobster and crayfish noodles. Both very tasty! We ended our wonderful dinner with their citronelle soufflé. The coconut was the prominent flavor with a hint of lime and the lemongrass was very subtle in the soufflé. They are a BYOB and it looks as though they are adding more decor to their back patio outdoor seating area. They also follow proper covid precautions with masks and distancing. Great little menu with excellent service. Endless cups of great tasting coffee. My husband and I visited the end of February 2022 and they had a Mardi Gras special, my husband loved it. Full of flavor with red beans and rice with sausage, egg and cheese. I had the Swedish waffle and a side of potatoes. Delicious! They even serve chocolate chip cookies with the bill. This place is impressive. The first thing is that the staff is AWESOME. The service is outstanding, which is nice first thing on a Sunday morning at 9am. Our waitress was great with the table next to us, who was keeping the kids entertained by coming up with a breakfast food for every letter of the alphabet. When they included her in the game, she was adamant about helping find options that began with the letters "u" and "z"... The food is very tasty, and creative. We had an Indian Omelette - tasted amazing and interesting for 9am. We also did the steam special for the day, the shrimp & grits. Having read good reviews this might be a fluke but we just had a horrible time here. Started off as I walked in the door. They have no parking here so dropped my wife off for the short wait and found a spot. I walked in the door and didn't even have the keys on the table before the waitress asks if I was ready to order. I told her I just walked in and asked for a min. She seemed snarky. I asked my wife, did I say that rudely? She says, no she seems to have that attitude with the table next to us as well. Orders an omelet and wife had chilliqueles, ok I know I spelled that one wrong. Her dish had the chips so crumbled up that it tasted of mush. They were not homemade chips so do not hold up well to being cooked with sauce. My omelet didn't come with cheddar. They claim it was but I know the difference between cheddar and provolone. What made the experience terrible was two things. The service was terrible. The waitress never once came back to ask how are meals were. When she finally did she seemed snarky. The other killer. And why we wouldn't go back is that it was so hot in there. I do not enjoy dressing nice and sitting with sweat rolling off me while eating breakfast. Overall I liked the place and would definitely go back. Pro: food was great! I had the Indian omelette, which was a large portion but good with a kick of spice. My husband had the pancakes, which was absolutely fabulous! The apples were amazing- wish it was drizzled all over the pancakes instead of being served in a small cup. Con: the portion of the dishes were large but the drinks were served in a small cup, the apples for my husband's pancakes was also served in a small cup. 1) Food. Really good menu, had the vegan waffles which were excellent. 2) Atmosphere. Overall nice, but downstairs in the dungeon like basement with the candles in the fireplace are a nice touch. 3) Service. The food came out fast even with it being very very busy 4) The negative. When I go home to visit my parents in Lititz. First place I wanna go? ON ORANGE !! I have been coming here for ages . . . It used to be called "wish you were here" until it changed owners a couple years ago. (confession: I still call it wish you were here). They have awesome Swedish pancakes, made with oatmeal. They are so delicious, I can eat three big ones !! They ordered the VEGAN swedes last time and they were just as delicious as the originals (took longer to make for some reason though?). My mom always orders the western omelette and it looks fresh and yummy. They serve the egg dishes with a side of roasted seasoned potatoes or your choice of bread and jam. AWESOME. The swedes come with a side of homemade apples sauce or pears ... really good. I always order tea here, but my mom brings her own coffee because she says that it is a bit weak. (she's used to espresso) I've noticed some of other comments saying it is not as good as before when it was WYWH. Maybe so, maybe not. My wife and 4yo daughter visited for breakfast and was pleased to discover this gem in Lancaster before we departed to our home out of state. We had heard that the "Orange" restaurant was good but, being from out of town, wasn't certain where on Orange Street it was located. Initially we parked in front of another restaurant that had a large Orange on it's sign. I was able to locate the phone number of "On Orange" that we wanted to try, and learned we had parked at the wrong restaurant. On Orange was down a few blocks. There was a parking spot out front with no meter that we ducked into. The waitstaff was welcoming and the service was prompt. There are lots of organic, healthy items on the menu with some vegan choices too. I included two photos of the menu. This is a breakfast and lunch place. It closes at 2pm and is not open on Mon or Tue. My wife and daughter each got a Swedish pancake that they enjoyed along with vegan sausage. One was plenty for each of them. I ordered the baked oatmeal and skim milk. A very unique dish that I found filling and delicious. We will be returning to On Orange when we drive through Lancaster again. Restaurant Week here in Lancaster, one of the most recognized places (On Orange) is featuring a special dinner menu honoring DipCo--sounds great! Let's start with the good, the service was hard to beat. Very friendly, very prompt. The price for everything was very good, $45 for dinner for two including the soda and coffee I had. The red velvet cupcake was so delicious I literally took 1 bite then stuffed 3/4 of it in my mouth at once. The cheese soup was pretty good, nothing too special but not bad. Needed bacon and/or hot sauce. The "offering" they gave us of pita chips and bean dip was okay but not really my style. The salsa tasted too much like tomato paste. Now, to anyone reading this review, you must know that I am basically a sommelier of frozen hamburgers. I grew up poor on a diet of pasta and frozen burgers. Both my parents worked for BK when I was a kid. I worked for BK as a teenager. I have been to the McDonald's drive thru more than once a day more than once in my life. I know a frozen burger patty, and that is what On Orange served last night. The first red flag was the server did not ask how we would like the burgers to be done. Fresh meat requires temp specification by the consumer, a frozen patty is already cooked! The bun was small and soggy. I am not kidding here people this burger brought back nostalgia for me of when both my parents would be working late and my sister would make us dinner of Weis brand hamburger patties on Weis brand 12-pack hamburger buns. Again, not good, we were poor and couldn't afford anything else and this is what a supposedly "great" restaurant is serving me?? On restaurant week??? GTFO! Makes me wonder where else they cut corners on the regular menu, guess the regulars don't notice, gluten free and vegetarian food isn't exactly ever noted in the culinary world for taste. Had some great Swedish pancakes here yesterday as part of a Friday getaway to Lancaster Co. Excellent breakfast; pancakes were yummy & filling. Delicious, cozy and eclectic with a great menu.! Small breakfast spot in the heart of downtown Lancaster. Get there early, or be prepared to wait, (totally worth the wait)! I had Dad's Breakfast which was scrambled eggs with the most delicious cheddar cheese and ham. Fantastic seasoning! Wow! What attention to detail. On Orange manages to put its own creative, homemade, delicious twist on every element of traditional brunch food. The Indian omelet I had has ruined all other omelets for me forever (but don't get it if you do not enjoy spicy). My children ordered the waffles and Swedish pancakes, which were pretty different from the white-flour kind they are used to (and much better), and they gobbled up every scrap. WOW!!! I would honestly give this place 6 stars if I could. This is by far the best breakfast I have ever had, and it's not even close. Now first off, when u walk into this place, it seems quite small, with a few tables and small bar area, but there is another area of dining downstairs, and also looks like they have an outdoor seasonal seating area as well. The downstairs basement area is just really cool, with some really interesting artwork, and some really interesting seating configurations. The kitchen is also located on this level. The service was great, and our party of 5 was seated after about a short 10-15 minute wait. Our server, Joan, was really great, and her personality was a perfect fit for the restaurant. The food is really out of this world. I had the Indian omelette, which was a 3 egg omelette with Indian relish, sautéed onions, and aged white cheddar cheese. Served with potatoes and tomatoes. Absolutely delicious. My wife had the grilled cheese which was made with a blend of two cheeses and served on focaccia bread, which I got to taste, and was fantastic. My daughter had the pancakes made with oats, and were truly very good as well. You can tell that all of their food is prepared with fresh, and I'm assuming locally sourced ingredients. The only problem with this restaurant is that I live 1 & 1/2+ hours away from it, but the food is so good, I would make the trip here just to have breakfast! read more

I lived in Lancaster for 3 months last year and never seemed to have heard of this place til now! Such a shame as I would have made it my regular. It's a small cafe feel with a bar that you can eat at if you don't want to wait for a table. Big windows facing the street gives it great lighting and an open feel. The wait is reasonable (about 15-20min) particularly for when I went which was a Sunday mid morning. The staff was friendly and attentive. The coffee was good (there were personalized mugs for those who come frequently), and the food was amazing. I had the grilled cheese which was one of the best grilled cheeses I've ever had since it was on such a delicious bread! With the check, you also get to try out some cookies from the central market complimentary! I might have to go buy some when I visit again. Definitely would return! read more

This was the second day of celebration brunch in Lancaster this weekend and it was a terrific end to a great weekend. I was skeptical at first. When I came in to put our name on the list I was told that it would be a 30 - 45 minute wait. I expected that, so no problem there. When I asked if I could get a cup of coffee while I was waiting I was told no by the hostess. She told me that if she gave me a cup they'd have to give to everyone that asked. She even recommended I go across the street to the gas station's convenience store for a cup. Sorry, but isn't that what business they're in? Selling food and drinks to people? I wasn't expecting the coffee for free. I thought maybe they didn't have take out cups, but later saw a child drinking from one, so that couldn't have been the problem. Note to management - if you expect people to wait 45 minutes, let them buy a cup of coffee for the wait! However, it was Mothers' Day and we were celebrating a family event, so I was there early to wait. Despite that initial hiccup we were extremely glad we waited. This is a small restaurant, so it's no surprise that our party of seven was a little cramped. They even offered to add another table to give us more room as soon as one opened up, but it was not necessary and we appreciated the offer. The young woman who first took our drink orders was very nice. Our waitress that then took our brunch orders was AMAZING. She was extremely soft spoken and kind and really made us feel welcome. The food was excellent. It was brunch, omelettes and such, but it was all prepared and served excellently. I had one of their specials, a lox and goat cheese omelette with spinach, and it was fantastic. If you're looking for a nice brunch place in town in Lancaster, stop in at On Orange. read more
