Customer service is top notch. Our waitress checked on us frequently and the owner or manager came by twice to check on our table. First we preferred margaritas, I had the colonial blood orange and he had the spicy, absolutely delicious. For our appetizers we had the house made pickles, dill flavored, and the shrimp ceviche. Both were very good and flavorful. For our entrees he had the pork belly on Mac n cheese and I had the black and blue burger with the seasonal cucumber tomato salad. Both were high quality and cooked very well. My only complaint would be that the spice levels were too high on both. My companion loves spice and the pork belly made his eyes water, so it's spicy. My burger had their house spice and I had asked how hot it was and was told it was mild just flavoring. It was spicy. Again the quality and experience were top notch. Decent spot and food, but passing on the 3.8% card acceptance fee to customers is terrible. We have our card payment fees...should not also pay for the merchants! Figure out how to price your items without screwing patrons. The house made chips, salsa and queso were wonderful, but be aware. The chips are four times the thickness of regular chips, and can quickly fill you up before your entree arrives. I had the beef tacos and my wife had the chicken quesadillas. Both were very good and we would get them again, but both were a little salty. We made a reservation for Christmas Eve dinner since we were in the area for the holidays. We started the night with drinks at the bar along with chips, salsa and queso. The appetizer had a generous amount of chips and dips. The chips had a little bit of spice on them to jazz up the dish. After moving to our table, our party of three all decided on tacos. My husband got the taco sampler, my mom had the chicken tacos and Blackened Mahi Mahi for me. Everything came out quickly and perfectly cooked. We seriously considered desert but unfortunately decided we didn't want to over do it, so we passed. We heard some folks at the bar talking about how good the gingerbread custard pie was and we were super intrigued. I sort of regret not getting one to go. LOL. Next time for sure. I have been to this establishment a handful of times and I will say that the food is generic and nothing to state ill of, however the service is subpar and the owner or owner's wife has no sense of customer service and is very rude. She has no respect for her customers and discriminates against them. I am the type of person who generally has no complaints and believes we all do our best but I was dealt with severe injustice and discrimination that I could not turn a blind eye on. Our party was sectioned in swivel chairs in which at least one of the party members could not sit on. We respectfully asked the waitress if we could have another option for a table/seating, to which her reply was getting the manager/owner (we didn't ask for a manager and were Just expecting a yes or no answer). We were told by the manager or owner that moving was not an option and I am more than confident in saying that we understood and were ok with the outcome. What happened thereafter I am still baffled by. The respect and humanity in Laura is nonexistent and I am saddened that someone like this owns this establishment. I highly recommend going elsewhere. Definitely not enough salsa for the portion of chips. The seasonal rice bowl was hearty (enough for lunch the next day) - filled with mushrooms, spinach, snap peas, and topped with salsa and cheese. Went here for dinner with some friends (party of 6) and the only drawback was the seats at the high top tables. They swung out from under the table which sat really odd. Other than that, my meal was delicious. I had the pork belly bowl with a fried egg on top. I definitely appreciate the concept of farm to table, but think the prices here are disproportionate to the portion sizes and overall restaurant feel, which is pretty casual. For instance, to add shrimp to a house salad is an additional $22; a beef patty runs you $20. I ordered the seasonal veggie quesadillas and a side of rice & beans. Note that everything is a la carte (very different from your usual Mexican.) The quesadilla was SWIMMING in a pool of orange grease. Now I know quesadillas give off some grease due to the cheese, but this was another level. I should've snapped a picture. Both my dining companions ordered bowls. These are a unique menu option you can customize. My husband opted for the mac-n-cheese topped with brisket. He liked it overall, but it was on the small side. Overall, a so-so experience. We wouldn't return or recommend. We'll stick to the more traditional Mexican cantinas with lot's of colorful decor and a sombrero or two. ;) read more

This is one of my absolute favorite indoor spots downtown. Under the unprepared of John J Jeffrey's, you know your getting a class act! The Chef and his Wife (who basically are the face of the establishment and run it) are the most hospitable people I've come across! They always great me with open arms and a big smile! But let's move onto the food: EVERYTHING YOU'VE EVER WANTED FROM TEX MEX!!! The meat is so tender and marinated so well! They have daily fish used for their ceviche. The pulled pork quesadilla is incredible! The bowl you have to try with the Mac and cheese base. If you want a good taste of everything I highly recommend the taco sampler. And everyone raves over the "build your own burger"! Moving on to Drinks: You will love the Mezcal Margarita (note: mezcal has a smoky flavor) and it comes with Worm Salk on the rim which is DELISH! If that's not your cup of tea they have a Spicy Margarita (not so spicy, just right) and a regular Margarita. I suggest you get the jar, it's a little cheaper and if there's two of you dining, you will each get about 1.5 drinks. Second OAXACA OLD FASHIONS are my absolute FAV!
