Sam K at On Command Sparks is an amazing trainer! She took our unruly golden doodle from an out of control and often bratty dog into a well behaved, sweet and compliant companion. We started training at age 6 so this was a lot of work! We did private training sessions, board and train boot camp and one group class. Everything has been great and not only has our dog learned but we as owners have learned how to correct behaviors, be consistent and communicate with our pup. Sam is terrific! My dog spent most of the on Friday in Daycare and when I came to pick him up on Friday afternoon, he looked really relaxed. He was so docile on the drive home and slept the whole night after I fed him dinner; he seemed to have completely enjoyed his playtime which was a welcome activity since he was pining for it all week. The ladies at the front desk in the morning and afternoon are all very sweet, my dog especially likes gal in the morning, he goes to her without hesitation. On June 25, I brought my dog to On Command in Sparks, NV to be groomed for a 1:00 pm appointment and was told they'd phone when she was ready to be picked up between 3:00-3-30 pm. At 4:30, with no call, I drove back to On Command and my dog wasn't ready. I live an hour+ away from this business and couldn't just drive home, so I opted to wait inside. At 5:15 pm, I asked to speak with the manager Barry O'Dea who may also be the business owner. I explained my situation and asked if I could be given a discount on the grooming charge because of the longer wait time. Mr. O'Dea's response of "No" without an apology for the wait was pathetically misguided on two levels: I'm an 85 year old woman and he repeatedly referred to me as "Young lady.". This is both sexist and ageist. I doubt he'd ever refer to an elderly male customer in this way. Finally, the female groomer brought my dog out with a sincere apology for the wait. Because of her thoughtfulness and excellent work, I paid the $115 fee along with a tip of $28.00. But because of Mr. O'Dea's shameful behavior, I'll never again return to On Command. read more

We went on a spring break trip and had our dog boarded for 12 days. I had some concerns because it was the first time he'd be staying alone, with our other dog passing away in November. He had been acting out of sorts at daycare too. I expressed my worries to Heidi upon check in and she understood he was still going through a tough time without his buddy. She told me she would indicate that he was a special needs dog, who may need some extra care and attention. I really appreciated her going out of the way to put my mind at ease for our trip. I checked in a few days into our vacay and was told he was not eating like normal and asked if they could try some chicken broth and pumpkin to encourage him to eat. I told the staff on the phone that he had been more finicky with eating even with new wet foods. They would keep an eye on him and let me know if anything changed. I got a call from the staff the day before pick up and was told my dog hadn't eaten in two days but energy at daycare was normal. They offered to try and hand-feed him. When I picked him up, they said they were able to get him to eat some so he must've been getting lonely and wanted extra attention. I have really appreciate all of their staff's help in getting our dog adjusted to the loss of our other dog and for their support and understanding during his first solo stay. Thank you! read more

I've been using On Command's services since my German shepherd was a puppy--he's now 4 years old. While I've always respected their expertise, I'm extremely disappointed with the recent lack of communication and professionalism. When we first started using their services, my dog already knew a wide range of commands, including the basics (sit, stay, down, heel, come) and more advanced ones like place, leave it, drop it, wait, and recall under distraction. We enrolled him in the 6 week training/boarding program reinforced which reinforced these skills & we appreciated. We always receive compliments in public on how well-behaved and well-trained he is. He's primarily off-leash 90% of the time because his recall is excellent, and we leash him only when other dogs or are nearby and had no incidents. We try to be mindful parents. He was understandably taken out of group play for getting overexcited, and I accepted that without issue. We continued with boarding and grooming without any complaints or negative feedback from the staff do years. His file clearly states no blow-dryer during baths, yet recently they still attempted to use one, then called me upset, asking me to pick him up immediately because they couldn't complete the service. I picked him up right away and was still charged full price for just a bath. To make matters worse, they didn't trim his nails (which is included with the bath), so I had to return a week later. Even then, no negative feedback was shared, and they said he did well. Now, I've been called & told they will no longer take him because he's a "liability," with the comment, "thank God nothing went wrong." After years of trusting them, I'm heartbroken and frustrated. No solutions, suggestions, or explanations were offered--just a sudden dismissal. I would have been happy to do additional training or take their recommendations, but instead, I was simply kicked out the door. This lack of communication, care, and professionalism is deeply upsetting, especially after trusting them with my dog for so many years. read more

We love On Command! We used to board our German shepherd here, and he was a handful- they always did a great job and he was well taken care of. Our new puppy, Earl, has been here for boarding, training, and day care- he loves it! We had to board him for 16 nights when he was only 7 months old, so I was pretty anxious. The girls who work here made me feel so much better about it, and clearly went out of their way to make sure he was ok. He obviously had a great time because he gets so excited when we pull up to their building. Staff are always polite and very helpful. Earl was very shy when we first got him, but trainer Sam and the daycare staff did beautifully with obedience and introducing him to other dogs. If I could leave one star I would. Barry the owner told me to shut up and said "we don't give a f*ck" and hung up on me twice. We picked up our dogs from boarding and our labradoodle had matted poop on his behind. He had to be shaved and has sores from it being there for so long. We called everyday to check on them and never once was anything mentioned. The supervisor told me they noticed it after a couple of days and tried to remove it with a baby wipe but he wouldn't let them so they left it. I recorded all the calls anticipating this sort of response after reading all the yelp reviews with responses from the owner. While trying to explain the situation he tried to completely place blame on us for not noticing it right at pick up, and called me kiddo. I told him please don't refer to me as kiddo I'm a grown women he hung up on me after yelling over me. When I called back he said he has kids older than me do whatever we need to do, shut up and we don't give a f*ck. He clearly does not, do not leave your dogs here. read more

Do NOT take your dog to OnCommand Dog Boarding. I took my dog to board with them for the very first time of my 10 month old Great Dane. I had to go to a funeral and on memorial weekend, everyone else was booked for someone to come stay at my house instead of boarding. He was there for a total of 4 days. My dog typically eats 8 cups of dog food per day. He is a very food motivated dog. He is also a big dog. We left him there at over 150 pounds. When I went to pick him up, the entire bin of food that would have normally been almost empty, was the same as when I got it back. My dog was skin and bones. We brought him home thinking he was probably just stressed. He didn't want to eat much but we encourage him. Day 2 comes and I woke up to all the food he had eaten the day before thrown up in a huge pile with 104.5 temperature. I immediately took him to the emergency vet. He weighed 132 pounds.. We had to give him a shot for nausea and medicine to get his appetite back. He was extremely stressed. I called on command and they told me he had eaten but one one day he didn't eat AT ALL. That is obviously a lie. I tried to tell the owner how disappointed I was and he didn't have any answers for me other than "we did our best" and tried to blame me as to why I waited when I only waited a day and a half to see if he would eat (which he did but threw up next day) and didn't know what was going on. Before leaving him there I had asked them to please call me if they have any issues and I would find someone to get him or have a back up plan. I can't even imagine if I would have left him there for a week or two. Who knows what he would look like or if he would even be alive. Who knows. But never again. I have been taking my dogs here for years, they have always been professional, welcoming and more importantly caring to my pups. I recommend them 100% in terms of grooming and staff in general. I know they have many other options including training and boarding etc, but I didn't use those programs. The main reason why am writing this review is because we had to put my husky down and my German Shepard that needed a groom after her best friend couldn't be there with her gave her extra attention without me knowing. My German Shepard came out looking beautiful and by surprise with a beautiful bow collar and even painted her nails at no expense. They really care about the pups and I trust them 100%. We have brought our Beagale here a few times to board her. The new staff is horrible, not personal or professional. We got a call from a employee, saying our beagle had a seizure, 5pm Saturday. Our dog is 4 years old and has never had such episode. We tried calling back, message says mail box 3085*** etc, leave a message. I left message after message. Can not contact anyone after hours. This is a nightmare not being able to contact someone, who leaves a VM like this. So in short, the employee took our beagle to a animal hospital on Wells and 6th. We got another VM saying so at 4:45 am. Low and behold, it must have been a cell #. We called and the hospital wanted $900 deposit from us, that we dident authorize. Our beagle has coughing fits from allergies. Now I'm stuck with a $900 plus $220 for absolutely no reason!! If they had a contact # we could of picked up our dog ourselves. read more

We had been taking our dog there since he was able to go to daycare and we only took him a couple of times a month. Originally, I didn't see anything on their website about requiring dogs to be spayed or neutered after one year but, after my last visit (my dog is almost 13 months old), I was told I couldn't bring him back until he was neutered. This made it very difficult because when we need daycare, we REALLY need daycare. I went back through their site and still did not see anything about that policy and when I called to confirm and let them know it was not on their website, they blew me off and didn't off any alternatives in the meantime. This is a bummer because I have to find a new daycare on super short notice but, luckily, there are plenty of daycares in town that do not have the same requirements.. read more

09/20/21: OUR DOG WAS UNDERFED AND CAME HOME SICK. This was only our 2nd time using this kennel after it was recommended by some friends. We are very concerned with our most recent visit. We prepared exactly one ziploc bag per meal. We assumed everything was OK and and didn't unpack her "kennel-bag" until we got home when we found the extra food. We called and asked to verify our dog's feeding notes: they have notes in their system stating our dog gets 2 meals a day and each bag equals one meal, we provided 6 bags. When we picked up our little girl today, we found 2 extra bags of food, MEANING THEY DID NOT FEED OUR DOG 2 OF HER MEALS! On top of that, she has been sneezing, coughing, and runny nose since we got her. So now we're monitoring her to make sure we don't need to rush her to the vet. NEVER boarding our dog with them, NEVER recommending them. read more

We drop our two German Shepherd dogs off here a couple times a week when we have packed schedules and we've been really happy. The owner and staff genuinely care about the dogs and their well being. Our dogs are always excited to go and come home tired after spending time here. The facility is clean, they will let you go in the back and the pricing is good (especially if you take advantage of the Costco or Yelp deals). One of our dogs was having some social issues and they really helped him by gradually integrating him in with other dogs and playtime which made a big difference. We've also had our dogs groomed here and they've done a great job with them including doing their nails. We can't recommend this place enough. read more

Very impressive facility however, I couldn't hear what the instructor was saying because of all the barking and whining dogs so we decided that the group training would not work for us. I've been taking my dog to On Command in Sparks for a couple of years. I used a lot of their services and was a faithful customer until the owner taken money from my checking account and will not return a refund. The owner!! A total disrespectful jerk!! Here's the issue, I took my small dog 25lbs in to get groomed. The employee charged my account $222, that was an error. The error had already gone through when she ran the actual amount of $112 therefore, my bank account was charged a total of $334 for a $112 groom. The employee who ran my card said to call them and they will take care of the $222. The owner credit my "On Command" account, I didn't want that, I wanted my money back in my bank account. He called left a message stating "I refunded your bank account $112 everything is good now" NOT! Instead of refunding the actual error of $222 he refunds $112 leaving a balance of $110. Here's the math $222 + $112 = $334 He refunded $112, I paid $112 for grooming. I emailed the owner several times with no response back. I asked him to bring in the employee who did transaction, he doesn't. Well, since I wasn't getting anywhere with the owner over email, I decided to visit him. Here's what happen. I go in reminding him of his error and he owed me $110. Before I could even finish, the owner tore into me saying "you are not getting anything back from me". He was so rude we ended in a heated argument in front of his employees. He used the "F" bomb told me to shove up my ...several times, as well as flipping his middle finger at me telling to me to get out". This man was the most rude irresponsible unprofessional crook I ever come across. My mistake was not going to my bank and have them do a reverse charge. But! The principal behind this, is something I've never experienced from a so called business man. Very rude!! He owes the employees an apology for his actions. It's the best boarding and training in Reno! My pup loves it here and shakes with excitement whenever we pull in! I put her through the 8 day obedience training and I couldn't be happier with the results. They use training collars which don't hurt the dog as it's used for corrections not choking. The difference is amazing and it provides a platform to continue training in the future. Courtney was personable and professional as she showed me how to communicate with my dog. She answered all of my questions and my pup loves her. I also boarded her with them for a week and it was another great experience. She came back happy and clean and worn out. You can tell they really care about the dogs and their well being. I could tell she was pampered because all of the staff came out to say goodbye to her and said she was a blast. I am so happy my dog and I found On Command! My little one started her training program with OC at 1 year 11 months. Why this long? Because we had used a different training program first. I had her in Petsmart training which is very treat/clicker based but it didnt' stick. The classes at OC are SO much different and she is responding so well to them. I've never seen my dog do a better sit/stay/heel then since she's had this class. The owners at OC attend the class if not run it themselves which I find really refreshing. Their facility is beautiful and CLEAN and my dog is always happy to go there. We haven't used their boarding services yet but plan to soon! Pippa got her first groom today and looks wonderful- they even put a little bandana on her! I'm really happy that I've found a boarding/grooming/training company that I love this much for my dog. On Command was recommended to my by several friends who take their dogs there regularly. It looks clean and the service seemed great when went it to view the facilities. We boarded our dog for 2 nights and he attended the doggie day care during the day. I called on the first day to see how he was doing and was told he was "laying down right now, but is happy and fine" I was also told that if I called back more while away I would always be told he is "happy and fine." Well, he wasn't happy or fine. 30 minutes after picking him up at the end of our stay I had to rush him to the Animal Emergency Center where he spent two days and two nights on continuous IVs with fluids and medicine. On Command had no notes about his eating habits, bathroom habits or behavior when we picked him up, nor did they when I called to check in. After realizing how sick he was, I called to double check, again no notes on his stay at all. Tens of hundreds of dollars later our dog is ok, thankfully. I reached out to management/ownership to discuss what happened and have never heard back. It terrifies me to think what would have happened if we had left our sweet dog in their care for another day or two, would they have noticed he was sick? Would they have done anything or even called us? I would not recommend this facility at all. Even if there was no prevention of my dog's illness, with all their trainers and handlers around the facility no one noticed he was going down. Scary. And so wrong to not even have a discussion with me, a mad and dissatisfied customer after my dog almost died. read more

I have to say that On Command has made my dog, Hurley, better in every way. We rescued him two years ago and he was young and a handful. We have taken almost every training they offer (Dog Training 101/102, rattlesnake avoidance (they use real rattlesnakes), and agility). With each session Hurley has gotten better under pure voice/whistle commands and i'm very comfortable having him off leash. I've also been able to use their daycare and boarding. Both are excellent and when you board and have done some training, they will even offer to provide extra training time with your dog while you are away enjoying your vacation. All the trainers are very good with all sizes of dogs and can work magic in under an hour training session. I'd recommend you seek out Courtney and Marilyn to assist you with what training your dog may need. Great job, On Command! My wife and I boarded our two dogs while we were out of town overnight. We dropped the dogs off on a Saturday morning along with food for each dog for dinner that night and breakfast the next morning with explicit instructions detailing how much wet and dry food each was to get. The dry food was in a Ziploc bag while the wet food was portioned out into four separate plastic containers (one for each dog for two separate meals) with their names written in 2" letters with a Sharpie. The young lady who checked us in read over the instructions my wife had written out and indicated the instructions were adequate and easy to follow. When we returned the next day, both dogs seemed tired, but we were happy to get them back and return home. All of their food bowls were returned to us is in an On Command-branded cloth bag. Once we arrived home and got the dogs settled, we started to unpack the bag from On Command. We noticed an entire container of food was still untouched. We also noticed all four containers had masking tape placed over the names we had written on the container. Unfortunately, they had written the wrong dog's name on each container. Our dogs are not the same size and one gets quite a bit more food than the other. We also add probiotic supplements to their food to help with digestion. Digestion problems are one of the reasons we make our own wet dog food. My wife called On Command and the person she spoke with said she wasn't on shift that morning, but the notes from the morning crew indicated one of the dogs wasn't interested in eating. This is strange for two reasons: both of the dogs normally eat like Vikings and the food in the container had never been mixed with kibble so neither dog would have had a chance not to eat it. The employee said she would let her manager know what happened and have her call us. The next day, Selena called and told me she had spoken with the person charged with feeding the dogs on Sunday morning. Apparently, the person looked in the fridge, but only saw one container of food so she split the one container she could find between the two dogs. When I expressed dissatisfaction with this and mentioned the mislabeling of the containers, she simply told me it was their policy to label all containers to avoid confusion. Yet this is exactly what their policy created -- confusion. She finally said there was nothing more she could do. I reiterated my displeasure and politely ended the conversation. We paid $75 plus a tip for this "service." Literally, we only needed them to make sure the dogs didn't wander off and feed them according to the instructions we left and they failed at half of those. At least in our case, it's pretty clear the dogs did not receive the level of care On Command advertises for its boarding services. Your mileage may vary, but we will not be using any of their services in the future. Between the multiple versions of why this happened and the fact we were never made aware of any problems during their stay, I wouldn't recommend their boarding services to anyone else. read more

My Newfoundland went through the 5 day boot camp, a service I never thought I would need, or want. I had worked most of my adult life training dogs for enforcement, and military, serving with some of the greatest trainers in the country. In my active days I racked up quite a few CDX, UD and Personal Protection titles. I totally forgot about the aging process when purchasing the latest puppy. He is my fifth Newfoundland, second male, so I get they are rowdy, mouthy puppies, I had forgotten I was old ( 75 ). At ten months and 125 pounds, he began to overwhelm me. As a retired trainer, I knew the urgency of not letting him get the upper hand. I also knew a " cookie tosser" was not going to cut it for this guy :) I remembered meeting Barry at County Commission meetings and looked him up, if he cared about the law enough to go to boring meetings, I felt like I could trust him with my guy. The saying goes that Doctors make horrid patients, I guess the same could be said of training for a retired dog trainer... I didn't like e-collars, the hand commands were wrong, I even said once to my husband, " Gosh, if I were my client, I would fire me" I can only say that e-collar did help to bring the dog back into focus, and he now responds without it. The e-collar is not a lifetime deal unless the owner makes that decision. Once the dog is calmed down enough to understand the commands, if the owner does follow through, you can walk the dog just fine with a training collar. He goes for walks twice a day, traverses busy stores, even the veterinarian office. I am very grateful that the trainers at On Command listened to my input, and explained their protocol and how I could make that work with what training I had already done with him.... Was it expensive ? Not having a well trained dog is expensive, nuff said.. This is a litigious society, your dog knocks a person over or breaks skin at a groomer, you will find the training is reasonable after all. I've been using On Command Dogs training for about 2 yrs now. I raise Dobermans and when you have more than 1 in the household, things can get tricky. Courtney as my dogs trainer is magical with her experience teaching and improving dog behaviors and also teaching pet owners new ways or correcting some ways that did not work with their dogs. I continue to sign up with training at On Command Dogs even though it is an hour drive time learning new methods, and techniques making our dogs live in a happier home. The board and train method really gave the big boost in obedience with younger dogs and guidance as they grow. Keep growing the business. I was quoted $55 for my little 8 pound dog to be groomed, when I went to pick her up she quoted me 65.00 a little sign showed they just raised their prices. I'm sorry but that is terrible business. I refused to pay that rediculous amount highway robbery who do they think they are. Very disappointed by this place. We got our dog boarded for 3 nights with them from a friends recommendation and had heard decent things. When we arrived for drop off the front desk was extremely short, didn't ask about the dog, kept calling a female a male etc. When they took her back they just yanked her away without saying bye into what sounded like a hallway of 20 dogs barking away uncontrolled. Not once did they ask about food habits, water, walks... nothing. We adopted our dog only a few weeks ago and wanted her to be in safe hands so she didn't get stressed thinking she was at a shelter again. When I booked the reservation I called several times making sure she didn't need an evaluation before playing with other dogs at daycare. I was clearly confused and thought if a dog was boarding they'd be taken to day care, too. When I asked multiple times to get an evaluation so she could play they insisted she didn't need one. Finally I call again and they tell me she does need an evaluation to play with the other dogs but now it's too late before she's boarded. ?? There needs to be more transparency on how it all works, what the kennels look like, pricing, etc for first time pet boarders who are feeling uneasy. The price that showed online before I boarded her was significantly lower than what we got charged and they didn't give us a receipt or tell us what we were being charged extra for at all. Fast forward to when we arrived to pick our dog up, she seemed afraid and scared of the environment. We asked how she did, the short haired receptionist coldly said "if you didn't a get a call that's good news"... seriously? That's all the info we got, they were only interested in getting money and getting her out of there. Seemed like they didn't even know or care who our dog was. The night after she returned she was acting sick and was sneezing, coughing, and generally lethargic. We are going to have to take her to the vet to make sure it isn't something she picked up at the kennel, but this just is not a good look. I'm understanding that dogs getting sick isn't their fault on purpose but it does maybe show a glimpse of their operation. Last but not least we didn't get her favorite toy back from them read more

Placed our dog in the care of those at this facility and was extremely disappointed with the quality of service. She boarded there for four days. When we returned to pick her up, there were scars under her nose that no one could explain. We noticed she was being very timid as if she was afraid of us. We tried letting her adjust to being back home. About an hour later, she fainted and we had to rush her to the vet. After calling the facility to ask how she'd been while in their care, they could not tell us anything. I asked to speak with the manager; he was not available. We had to call back two days straight before he spoke with us. He had the worst customer service. He would not let me speak without talking over me. Decided to board my dog somewhere other than with my veterinarian as they just kennel her for the entire time and am so glad I chose On Command. They took the time to really talk to me about my dog and get to know her quirks and she did great. After spending a great deal of time and money to sign our pup for training classes, we were 'treated' to a very small room with too many dogs and handlers in it. We also had the joy of a head trainer who was very full off herself, spoke extremely quickly and treated the handlers (daddies & mommies) with little respect. She did have an assistant but he never spoke or was allowed to speak. He must have been her lap dog. Our dog is very none aggressive to other animals and twice during the class the same dog was aggressive both vocally and physically. The dog was not removed from the class. Besides the fact we love our baby girl, she is a Registered Papered $2000+ dog. We expected and they presented both verbally and visually on their website that they had Professional Trainers and a Professional Facility to train in. Our dog loves going there and is excited to see the staff/trainers. Courtney is fabulous she really has a connection with the animals. I've brought my dog to this place of business three times. Twice I lucked out and got an excellent groomer. The third time I expressed (as before) that I didn't want my dog there any longer than necessary as she gets anxious (not difficult or nips at anyone - but she throws up later at home) and I was flexible with my own time and could pickup or drop off at will. I was told to drop off at 9am and pickup at 2pm. 2pm came and went - at 4pm we were told that they need another 45 minutes since it was a "busy day". At this point I told them I wasn't pleased and didn't care about their "busy day" - just my dog and expected she be finished when I arrived. At 4:45pm when I arrived she still wasn't finished. My dog saw me and obviously wouldn't stay on the table so that was that. I paid my $60 and took her with her feet not completely groomed. I have rated one star because the first two times the only reason they ended up being great was because of ONE groomer who could leave at any time. The owner was not understanding, accommodating, or helpful in anyway in this last situation. He did not problem solve what was going on. I had previously recommended them to folks - I am not only personally rescinding that - but publically and I will LOUDLY tell folks to go somewhere else. Good thing I work around lots of people. I will make sure to tell everyone I can. I believe in good customer service. I don't think it is okay for a business who deals with animals to justify holding on to animals for 8 hours for a grooming thinking that is okay when they are expressly asked not to. A lack of communication is obviously a problem that needs to be fixed. read more

I take my doodle for grooming by Jamie. She does a great job and I give her 5 stars. She takes 3-5 hours to groom him and a pointer I have. We have been going there since before they moved to their location on Greg St. Today they charged me a dog day care fee because my dogs were there for a few extra hours. They had never done this before and did not tell me they were going to start doing this. Also, my dogs were not in the day care where they got to play with other dogs. They spend most of that time with the groomer. I could understand if they had given me a notice that they were going to do this. I love Jamie and how she grooms my doodle but will be looking for a new place. The grooming is expensive and I felt that this covered the time they were there, until I could pick them up. This is an update. I decided I would try On Command for another grooming. Jamie told me the owners want me to take down my above review if I want to bring my dogs back to her. I told her that I would be happy to make an addendum provided they agreed not to add on or increase their fees without notice. They put her in the position of having to ask me to do this when they were not even willing to discuss it directly with me. It brings words like "unethical" and "disrespectful" to mind. If Jamie moves to another business, I would be happy to have her groom my dogs again. read more

The staff is kind, respect the love we have for our companions, and treat them like their own. On Command is the only facility we use and recommend to family and friends. We don't worry about leaving our dogs over night because there is someone there 24/7, which is comforting to us. They're not left alone and someone is there in case of emergency.
