I brought my two German Shepherd girls for the first time on Monday to see how they would behave with lots of other dogs around. The staff at Charlie's place are so good with reading the dogs behavior. They let in one dog at a time to meet my girls, all was very organized and supervised. It was wonderful to see how well behaved every dog is and how well they all interact. I brought the girls again on Wednesday for several hours and they are already warming up to being away from home and enjoying playing with lots of other dogs. The facility looks and smells clean and well taken care of. I have no worries when we would need to travel or leave the girls at Charlie's place for an extended period. I have been going to Charlie's Place for 6+ years with my dog Snoop, and they are the best of the best. We used to go there regularly for doggy daycare and boarding but now usually just for baths and nails, as we don't need the other services often. I don't think I have ever had a complaint. They remember him every time no matter how long it has been and they are so sweet and caring, despite some of his chihuahua-isms. I have never felt uncomfortable leaving him there, everyone on the staff is so nice and seem to be "dog people." I highly recommend Charlie's Place and won't need to go anywhere else as long as they are around :) read more

I LOVE CHARLIES PLACE! I was interested in getting my boy enrolled in doggy day care but was so nervous. I had never brought him to dog parks or around many other dogs so I was scared. I scheduled an evaluation hoping for the best and I was not let down! They cleared the room and slowly introduced my boy into the pack and he did great! I drop him off when I feel like he needs play time or a few days during the week while I'm at work knowing that he will get hours of play time and be looked well after! I just wanted to take a second to update my review with Charlie's Place since it has been so long since my last one. We are still taking our now almost 3-year-old Great Dane to Charlie's Place and we still love it! The staff is so great. They take such great care of Logan when he comes in. He heads straight back for the door when we get there and that's how I know Charlie's Place is somewhere he enjoys and feels happy and safe. It's also so clean and despite having a ton of dogs there at all times, it does not smell or look like it! The only change is the prices recently went up by quite a lot, so we can't go every week like we used to. This won't completely stop us from coming, we love it too much! We were visiting for a ski trip and didn't want to leave our 7 year old GSD home nor in the hotel room. Upon research, we were thrilled to find Charlie's place. Registering was simple, emailed necessary records and scheduled our boy's assessment. While we were filling out additional paperwork, we were able to view his assessment from a distance. It was organized and great that they let in one dog at a time rather than just throwing our boy in the crowd. He had such a great time, when we drove up the next day, he was overly excited and ran right in. When we picked him up, we loved that we could see him on camera, having fun with a non-stop wagging tail! We loved that they gave us great details of his behavior and appreciated that there are workers closely supervising. Although we were only there for two days (daycare) they knew Krypto by name and our boy loved one of the workers, Alyssa! We wish they were closer to us here in CA, as there are limited doggie daycare/lodging options here. We love skiing at Mt. We've been bringing our puppy, Tula, here for the past two months and we seriously could not be happier with Charlie's Place! We brought our pup to a different doggy daycare in town (not going to name names) and she did not like it at all. She acted super stressed when we dropped her off and was frantic when we picked her up. Flash forward to bringing her to Charlie's place: Tula is SO excited when we pull into the parking lot to drop her off. Everyone knows her by name and she gets so excited to greet all of the staff. Plus when I pick her up, she comes and says hi to me and then turns around to go back into daycare to play! They have live cameras set up so you can watch your pup while they're at daycare, which personally has been so reassuring to KNOW she's having fun and is safe. We haven't boarded our pup with them yet, but I imagine having the cameras would be really reassuring then as well. They're also really on top of cleaning up all the dog poop/pee, which I was really impressed by. The place doesn't smell bad at all and Tula's paws are never filthy when she comes home, which just makes my day easier across the board. If you're looking for doggy daycare, I highly recommend you check out Charlie's Place. The pricing is reasonable, the pick-up/drop-off hours are great (they allow late pick-ups!), and all of the staff are so friendly and you can tell they genuinely care about your pet. read more

We took our little puppy for her first ever grooming at Charlie's Place. We were blown away by the friendliness and care of our dog's groomer, Ashley. Our doodle went from shabby to chic with a beautiful haircut. This is our first doodle, and Ashley was happy to go over how to upkeep her coat. The facility seems clean and spacious but after watching the cameras for 4 hours during the 3 times my dog was there I wasn't happy with the interaction the dogs have with the staff. I haven't gone back but continued to get emails from Charlies Place. I replied and asked them to take me off the email list as I wasn't coming back. In the email I said it was because I wasn't happy after watching the dogs on camera. It's been a month and I would think the owner would have replied to ask what it was that I saw that upset me but nothing yet! EDIT: The owner did contact me on 12/2 and we discussed my concerns. I will be giving Charlie's Place another try. I was told she never saw my original email and she will be discussing my concerns with the staff. I don't have dogs of my own but I petsit quite often. I have dropped off and picked up one of the pups I sit here a couple of times and I can easily say that this is the place I would want my puppy to come. The staff is very friendly. They greet you when you come in and treat all the pups nicely. If picking up they want to verify that you're not a stranger picking up someone else's dog. They have cameras to supervise the puppies activities. The facility is always clean and smells fresh. My old guy, Stanley, has been going for a while now. I just feel compelled to say I am completely happy. I take Stanley when his exercise level has been high, but he has to rest and is rested. Charlies offers a dog area where all dogs can run and play (inside) together. When I come to pick him up after a 5 hour stay. He comes barreling through the door not knowing I'm there. When he finally sees me his happiness increases from an 8 to a 10. He is so energetic and happy it seems like he has gone back in age. I get to take home a very happy dog. Thank you Charlie's Place for taking amazing care of my beautiful chow Chewy. Chewy (11) recently had to undergo surgery due to a growth on his neck. The growth had also delayed us getting him to a groomer (we also live in the bay area). So Chewy went in looking like a dog who had lived a long life. (Ok it probably wasnt that bad but I felt like it was.) After a visit to Charlie's Place, Chewy looked and felt so much better! He had a pep in his step, and you can tell he is definitely happier. They did such an amazing job. I have been to numerous pet groomers in the bay area. They charge considerably more and don't do nearly as good of a job. (One place does almost as good, but still considerably more expensive.) If there was anything I learned today it's that I need to stop looking for a place to take my Chewy. We're long time Charlie's Place lovers. Today we came in after four days away to pick up our 15 year old springer Magpie. We didn't see her out in the dog group on the awesome video feed in the reception area and then noticed a springer in a coat. Because she looked so different I asked if that was her and they said yes, and that she looked like she could use the extra snuggle and warmth of a coat, so they put one on. We've trusted three dogs with the folks at Charlie's Place and have 100% good things to report. It's like leaving your family member with people that care about them as much as you do. We just picked up our dogs after two nights at Charlie's Place and they did not want to leave!! We thought they would miss us but no, no, they just kept running to Kellai and Lori and the other girls. Please note::They did not smell like pee/poo or have that stress skin flaking thing we have seen at a different place we took them before. I was so happy for non stinky dogs...(we did not have them bathed before pickup) The staff is SUPER nice but not in the fake way..we just felt happy that our dogs were so happy and wanted to stay And play When we first arrived to drop off, they brought them to the play area, and through the viewing window, we saw dogs peeing.. I was thinking ""Ohh, those dogs are all excited they have new dogs coming in". Not even one minute later, this girl came in with paper towels and a big spray bottle and wiped it up.. Was visiting from out of town and needed a place for my pup to stay while I was at work. A few things - it can be hard to reach the staff via phone; they seem to be rushed when you're on the phone with them; they didn't tell me there was a $20 evaluation fee until after I got there. As for the daycare, it's a big open space with some separation between different sized dogs. However, at times there can be 100+ dogs with just a couple attendees. So many dogs...I don't think I like this. Also, I rarely saw attendants actually interacting with the dogs. On the days I was in town, I asked if they went out on walks along the Truckee river and they never did even though weather was great. It is advertised on their website, "weather permitting." Clean facility. $20 full day daycare $15 half day daycare (up to 5 hours) My dog came home safe and sound, but it just felt like individualized care and customer service needs more attention. Because so many dogs are there it seems like they're more committed to the regulars. read more

The only reason I'm giving this 3 stars is because of my first experience and polite staff. The first time I took my husky here for grooming and deshedding they did a great job. Today I took him there for the same treatment and an extra $10 and they did not do the best of jobs. There were still tufts of fur coming out of his neck fluff and excess fur all over him. I get huskies have a lot of fur, but I removed some of the tufts and excess fur just myself with a brush as soon as we got home. For the increased price, the grooming was not worth it. read more

My dog Luna (2) has been going here for almost a year and she loves this place! It has a gigantic indoor playing area which I personally like for when the weather outside is too extreme for them to play out. The staff there is incredibly friendly and remembers not only the pets name but mine too, so it feels even more special when I bring her in. They also have a TV in the front desk where you can see your dog playing right before you pick them up. There is also a break room where you could also watch them for longer if you wish. It is open 7am to 7pm 365 days a year, these long hours are incredibly useful to me because I'm a college student with non traditional hours right now. Their 10 day packages make taking my dog affordable for even me. Everytime my dog goes there and comes home she is exhausted and sleeps the rest of the day! Which is ultimately why I bring her there. And just a note I have a border collie who is pretty high energy so that is saying something! They also have grooming there but I have yet to try it. read more

I've started taking my pup to Charlie's Place for doggie daycare to help with her separation anxiety and to give her a chance for some safe off leash play time with other dogs. Everyone I've encountered at Charlie's Place has been professional and kind, especially with my dog. She's gone to daycare about 5 times now, and she's finally starting to lighten up and enjoy it a bit more. One of the reasons I really like Charlie's Place is their openness about the space. You can watch your pup from a webcam when you drop them off/pick them up, and they also have the viewing room for when they're doing the initial evaluation. First off forgive my spelling I'm texting with my paws. My name is Daisy, my brother Ramsay and I just got back from a 5 day stay at Charlie's Place. This was our first time we ever stayed away from our parents. I have to say me being the big sister, I was very impressed with all this place had to offer. It didn't hurt that my brother was with me and the staff kept us safe the entire time. We had walks, breakfast and dinner just like at home and we were allowed to bring our own beds and toys. I knew my Mom and Dad were watching from the surveillance cameras, so we would try and give them some good shots for pictures,so they didn't miss us too bad and could have a good trip. I looked at all the doggie daycares in town before settling at Charlie's Place for my furry friend. I absolutely think it's the best doggie daycare in town. The staff is outgoing and friendly, and they genuinely care for Rhys, my pup. Rhys looks forward to CP every time he goes. The clientele are also very amicable, which indicates to me that they, too, are very satisfied with Charlie's as the "home away from home" for their dogs. The facility is very spacious, clean, and full of activities for the dogs. I like the indoor/outdoor aspect, along with the water features. Pricing is comparable to other establishments in town. To bring home the point, I drive out of my way by 30 minutes each way to and from work to take my dog across town to Charlie's. Pretty much every other daycare in town is closer, but I think CP, the owner, and the staff is well worth it. I have to thank the staff for their kindness with my dog Dory. She's a little timid and loves people more than being around other dogs, they took that to heart and were SO great with her. Dory stayed the night with them 12/23 and we couldn't pick her up until late Christmas Eve. With chain controls over the summit, we weren't able to get there until like 10:15pm and John (hope that was him) was wonderful! Said it was no problem, just glad we got there safe. I found Charlie's Place by chance and based on others reviews I went to meet them. I was SO IMPRESSED with how open they were. Gave me a tour, explained every routine and what Dory would experience. On top of that, they have CAMERAS, for only $5/day extra you can watch your pup all day and night if you want. Dory was so nervous at first but the staff was really great with her, come that evening, a staff member, hauls out a mattress (I watched because I was curious how the "slumber party" would go down) grabs a blanket and pillow and goes to sleep. Dory curled up behind his knees on the mattress. How sweet is that?! Come the next morning, Dory was down with the pack! This is our new place, Charlie's Place, staff that care for your dog as much as you do! AMAZING location and lots of room to play inside AND out. Super clean and sanitized. I have a rescue dog that is 20 lbs, and he loves going to Charlie's Place and play with all the other small dogs, and I have boarded him for a few weeks while away on vacation, he is well taken care of and safe. We've been taking our dog to Charlie's Place since they opened in late 2013. Everything is well thought out in the facility with large clean inside/outside play areas, a running water fountain and cameras to watch your dog if you sign up for it as part of your package. If you decide to give your pet a vacation, the overnight suites have plenty of room for your dog to stretch out between sleep cycles. They also have cameras in the suite room to watch your dog throughout the night. Our dog has taken part in both the day and overnight stays many times. He always comes home tired, but very happy. On a "school" day (day camp), he cannot wait to get out of the car and into the building. As for the staff, they are absolutely amazing. They love dogs! Your dog will be well loved and watched over throughout the day. No need to worry about your loved one's care whether you choose a day visit or a two week vacation. read more

Our old dog loves it here! The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. The dogs are segregated into supervised areas for large and small breeds and have access to the outdoors if they choose. There are raised, carpeted places for the ones who need some rest away from the group. It's fun to watch them interact on the closed circuit TV in the lobby. All dogs are required to have proof of current vaccinations and new dogs are carefully integrated. This business is right next to Mayberry Park so we can literally run right in. These guys are beyond amazing. Oftentimes doggy daycare feels impersonal, like they're just there to keep your dog alive for a few hours while you're at work. This place is soo different. I feel like my dog actually thrives here. I can tell when she hasn't been for a few days-- her mood changes. When you go pick them up, the staff can often tell you all about your dog's day like who they hung out with, how much energy they had, etc. They are clearly dog people who love their jobs and I couldn't be happier to have my dog here! read more
