Both my dogs are boarded here and I've never had an issue. They always seem excited to be there and sleep for hours when we get home.

I'm so glad we found the pet playhouse for our dog when we go on vacation. They administer meds, feed your dog on a schedule, and give your dog play time. Our German shepherd with a lot of anxiety always has a good time when she goes. They are responsibly priced compared to others and they really care for your pets. I hate to say this but I fear that this business mistreats dogs. My dog has never showed signs of distress and fear after being at a doggie daycare facility until I took her to this place. I took my dog a couple of times and each time she came running to me with her tail between her legs. I thought she may have been scared to be at a new doggie daycare but the second time confirmed that it was not just that. She started to whimper and put her tail between her legs when I would pick up objects in the home (which she never did before). I also heard employees yelling the second time I picked her up. I asked if they could show me video footage of my dogs and they refused. I will never take her here again. read more

Pet Play House was very accommodating for my small dog. We live out of town and they were willing to board my dog privately since we cannot do the full assessment ahead of time to for her to be with other dogs. She had her own room with potty breaks. She also has liquid medication 3x per day and they accommodated her without any extra charges. Other dog boarding places required an assessment prior to boarding and extra charges for each medication administration. They even called me to clarify her medication. I also found out that she apparently snapped at a male staff member so Pet Play House was able to accommodate with a female only staff to handle her and she did fine. They had great communication when I was making the reservation and ensured I had the vaccines up to date since it had expired. Great customer service and overall and a great experience. I wish they were located near my home so I can use their services again for future trips. read more

Recently took my reactive and dog aggressive dog for a boarding stay. I was really nervous about dropping her off because she had a recent injury on her leg and she had to have a cone on during her entire day. They provided me with photos of her injury and updates just to make sure that nothing was getting worse etc ( she had treatment at an animal emergency hospital before visiting and was cleared of infection so she was safe to go ) they gave me a report card of her stay and I know that she had a great time. They offer WebCams on their site and they also offered us a private suite for the same as a regular rate just so that she could be enclosed in an area where she didn't have to see other dogs. I fully believe that this is the least stress she's ever been when she's gone to a boarding facility on top of having to wear a cone. They were super nice with me and very flexible and I appreciate all of their time and effort. read more

Terrible customer service from this place. Been trying to schedule doggy daycare for two weeks and keep getting the runaround. I keep asking. can we just schedule to hold a spot. NO!. They will not schedule until they have all the paperwork, I know that the dogs have everything they need to be boarded. It's just logistics! We finally get everything that they require and now there's no availability. Manager on duty Stephanie listen to what I had to say, the frustration that I felt in this whole process and the disappointment. Her response sorry we can't help you. We have a lot of new customers. Pet Play House is worthy of 5 stars. They have earned the trust necessary in leaving your loved pet somewhere other than home. The staff is enthusiastic & really friendly to both pets & their owners. It's conveniently located on East 4th Street, just a few blocks from Virginia Street. If you work downtown or attend UNR, it's ideal. The interior is clean & their clientele seems happy and comes home healthy. Grooming is also available. We've been taking our sweet Beagle mix to Pet Playhouse since 2019 for boarding and daycare and have consistently been very pleased with their service to dogs and humans. Not only does your dog get to *play*, but also you get a report at the end on who your dog played with, which enrichment activity they participated in (the bubble machine and the chickens are my favorite), and their mood while they were there. And even better: in holiday seasons, you might get a little treat from your dog. I hung up our paw-print ornament from 2019 just the other day. The owner and the workers I've interacted with are professional and quick, and they genuinely seem to love dogs. When I boarded my dog for three nights, I was nervous because she has separation issues. However, when we picked her up, she was relaxed and happy, a real testimony to how much these folks care about animals. I also paid $1.66 for the vacation photo (seriously: check out their add-ons at https://www.petplayhouse.biz/add-ons), which was playful and charming. I really wanted a good experience with Pet Playhouse, it came highly recommended by my dog trainer. However, a good experience was definitely not what I had. It started with the receptionist who lacks phone skills and customer service. I was concerned with the strange phone interaction to make the evaluation appointment...I don't know maybe she has having a bad day. However, she was her same non pleasant self when I arrived for my evaluation. In fact, I was looking at all the information by the desk and she told me I could sit down because they weren't ready for me. It was rude. Next the evaluation. There was no tour only a brief explanation of how the intro to the playhouse would go. I could tell from the moment the employee took my dog, that my dog has not going to pass the evaluation. The employee although the most pleasant one seemed very hesitant to even take my dog back. Why? My dog was very calm and non reactive even as a big dog was leaving. I get a call 3 hours later that he failed the evaluation with no explanation. When I arrived to pick him up my dog a different receptionist tells me he failed the evaluation and when I ask why she doesn't know. She phones over her headset and I hear rambling from the other end (presumably the evaluator). She said that when my dog was confronted with the pack he tried to snip at them. No further information was given. She didn't say thank you or I'm sorry it didn't work out. Just that I still owed them 20$. She was equally as unpleasant as the first receptionist. I think it's important to note that my dog has previously passed a similar evaluation at another facility. Was I disappointed that my dog failed the evaluation..absolutely. However, I was not surprised considering the energy at the playhouse. The reception area also had a bad urine odor. read more

Most boarding places allow you to cancel a reservation. My reservation is November 25 and I called today November 4 to cancel my reservation. They also charge you half for the deposit right away. So they already charged me $460 and they said if I cancel I won't get my deposit back and I can't even get boarding credit. Also, whenever I pick up my dogs they are covered in urine. So I've had to request that they give them a bath on pick up day. When you call they don't ask you if you want your pets to receive a bath. Most places ask you during reservation if you want them to receive a bath. My dogs are potty trained to go twice a day so I wonder if they only take them out once day and that's why they are covered in urine. This place is ok but I think they have a bad cancellation policy and also I've been boarding with them for a while so you think that they would show some type of curtesy to long time loyal customers. Apparently you have to cancel within 30 days for holiday boarding. Which I feel like should be explained during your phone call reservation. But I was only aware of the 10 day cancellation policy but I guess that's for none holidays. Also they have a tip jar at the front desk and most place don't accept tips. As a dog owner of two spoiled Malti-shi tzu's, It never hurts to have a back up of boarding and daycare.. After reading Reno's 2022 Best of Reno, I was interested in finding out more.. I called and left a message early in the morning. Received a call later before lunch with answers to my questions on doing an eval and when they performed them. I navigated around the website and the customer portal for new customers. Our current boarding/daycare has a similar portal, and I guess it's the new norm.. A year ago- I would have given a 5 star review. Since this business has been under new ownership- it has gone downhill. The Pet Play House would have fun parties and events for the dogs- and now for the past 10 months there has been nothing. There used to be food and dog items in the front for sale and now it's empty and barren. The only positive thing I will say is the employees there are trying their best even though they have no support. My dogs enjoying being there with the staff which is why sometimes I still bring them. Shame on the new owners for letting this once amazing doggy daycare go downhill. read more

What can I say?! We work long hours and our pup needs mental stimulation so we bring him to daycare. Every time he gets dropped off he is excited to play with his puppy friends and say hi to the staff. We have used Pet Play House for boarding, day care, light grooming as they offer baths and he also attends their doggy holiday parties, so I can say that this place is our go to! We love the daily report cards and that he comes home exhausted from his day so he can just loaf on the couch with us when we are home. read more

We've never boarded our dogs before, and were very nervous to try. But, after doing some research, we decided to give it a go. Pet Play House offered exactly what we wanted and were accommodating and patient with us. Our pups are "that breed" which prohibited them from joining the play groups. That's okay as I understand the insurance piece and I don't want either of my dogs to be in a situation where they could be hurt or cause injury. Best to just avoid that altogether. But I am thankful to Pet Play House for allowing them to stay overnight. Of course we did the Presidential Suite so they could stay together (and I loved being able to see them on video). They had outside time together and even got a bedtime story. In fact, they both did so well that they each got a sticker on their report card. (Isn't that the sweetest??) Thank you for taking good care of our Maggie and Otis. We think they're both pretty special and it means a lot that you think so, too! read more

Today we brought our pup to Pet Play House for the first time. Given that she is a shelter pup with a traumatic past, and that we have only had her for a month, we were nervous about how she would be during her evaluation for doggie daycare. She ended up having an absolute blast, and we felt very good and safe having her there. The staff that was working gave us a tour, and told us they would call us immediately if something didn't go right (aggression, etc), which gave us peace of mind that we could trust them, rather than going to a daycare where they don't care and just throw the dogs together and hope for the best. Our pup came home nice and tired (as you can see from the picture), and we feel confident with boarding her for nine nights this coming July in one of their doggy suites :) I also really love the little report cards that they sent home with us. **Pupdate*** picked up Winnie and Cleve after what seemed like forever! All week we got texts with photos (best Add-On EVER), they had 3 half mile walks throughout the week (an add-on that was a wonderful surprise for us to include), 4 private outings (included, we opted out of the play groups), and had movies playing (another great add-on) to help with any anxiety. Picking them up was fantastic. We got a report card covering their vacation stay. Let us know how they ate, their attitude. All the things. That was lovely. I'm very happy with Pet Playhouse and would use them again. We dropped off our sweet pups Thursday for a 6 nights stay. It's the first time one of our rescue babies has been boarded and only the 3rd for the other. I was so concerned I emailed in the middle of the night asking how they were. I got a kind and assuring response in between flights today along with pictures of our pups. So far I give them 5 stars for putting two nervous dog moms at ease while they pamper them. I will update as I get pup-dates. So far I'm very pleased with the human and canine service!! read more

Unfortunately, I had two flat tires on the way to Reno from Las Vegas. We were driving a truck and a trailer. We could not get there before closing time 5 pm. We spent $400 on fixing tires and slept with the dogs in the truck. I called to let them know we would not make it on time and to cancel the reservation. I was charged the deposit $60+ and a $50+ fee that I did not get an explanation what it was for. They said they would reimburse me the $50 but no the $60. This shows you how some businesses take advantage of seniors misfortune. I am not able to report of the services but I am not impressed with their lack of consideration I would not recommend this establishment who are eager to make money they don't earn. read more

I boarded my dog Milo for a week with Pet Playhouse. We ran into the issue of Milo being super anxious during his boarding to the point that he was drooling and he ate drywall on his condo. Pet Play House notified me immediately, and were very kind and compassionate about the situation. They offered some calming hemp chews for dogs, and were very understanding of the situation. In addition, I called and got updates daily on Milo. I just felt that my dog was in caring knowledgeable hands. I would recommend this place for boarding because of this experience and also because they offer so many add on's to the visit to help keep your dog stimulated and happy. Quick weekend get away from California, we booked couple's massage in Reno. We wanted our baby Cody to enjoy himself too and also to ease our guilt, we booked him an overnight stay at Pet Play House. We had such good experience the last time we felt secure enough to leave our baby overnight under their care. We upped it by add ons like chicken noodle soup, home baked treats, breakfast in bed, fuzzy blanket all for a very reasonable price. It was also perfect opportunity for our baby to mingle with other dogs. When we picked him up, he was so happy and so full of energy. We can tell he enjoyed himself but he misses his dads very much. we've boarded our furry boys here when we stayed in GS casino,the staff are nice and as soon as we got in,the lady gave as a tour of the facility,staff are continually cleaning,hope soon they have a better ventilation for the benefit of their own staff as well.Our boys settled in and in their presidential suite we can see them before they go to sleep until morning,hoping also that they have cameras in the play area as well.Overall it was a good accommodation for my boys. read more

This place might be good for many people, but it wasn't for me. If I could give negative stars, I would. My dog got a bite (puncture wounds and scratches) on her back. We noticed something sticky on her back after doing a 4 hour day care (on a Saturday 12/26/2021). Since she has thick black fur, we thought it was just something she rolled in and was sticky. A few days later, her back was all swollen up. Tried to get to the vet, but they had nothing open for a few weeks. By Wednesday, after trying to call other vets and finding the cost of seeing a dog they didn't know, we begged and our vet got us in on Thursday. After shaving the area, they found it was a bite puncture wound from a dog, with other scratches. Vet bill ended up around $500! We notified the Pet Playhouse, they denied everything, saying we must have taken our dog to a dog park. We never take our dog to dog parks (don't think it is a safe environment). It was snowing in Reno, so I was not even going for walks. Only place our dog was around dogs was the Pet Playhouse. We got a lawyer to send a letter to get reimbursed. The owner called us, said he was watching the dogs and there was no fight. And, they have no liability insurance, they are not paying, since it didn't happen there. They made us feel it was our fault and we were lying. There is no place else this would have happened. Check other reviews - this is not an isolated case. I have since talked with other dog owners that have used Pet Playhouse, and they had issues where something happened, but everything was denied by Pet Playhouse. My two dogs came to stay here for a long stay. While we were gone, one of our girls became intolerant of other dogs and started being aggressive. She was removed from daycare and no longer allowed to return. I 100% agree with this decision as I would want that if a dog was aggressive with our dogs. This is not my complaint. I have been happy with this business for our dogs. We travel for work a lot and seek a great place for them when we are gone. This filled that need. This review is a bit pointless as he is the one who reads and responds to these, but I still want to state this for those who are reading it. My issue was the gentleman who works the front desk. He is the older man who works the front desk. He was very rude and short to me. He was not polite nor kind to me when he was telling me about our dogs issues and her not being able to come to daycare again. He was cold and would not make eye contact. He put the message out there to me in a way that was shaming and angry. These are dogs....we are humans....this happens and I didn't argue. I agree with the decision. However, being we literally paid almost $1400.00 for the long stay I would expect better customer service. He was "kind" enough to state that she is welcome to board but not daycare. I am not arguing on the decision to remove her....I agree.....I disagree on how he presented it to me and how he treated me as a customer. What a disappointing ending to our relationship with Pet Playhouse. I just got off the phone with Tyler, the owner, and while he was willing to say his staff should have handled our mishap better, he's also willing to let us go as a customer because (in his words) "there are customers lined up out the door every weekend". I was understandably upset when I spoke to his staff member (who is also a family member) and I'm sure I came across very cross, however, she was equally rude to me stating "it's your own fault", raising her voice and talking over the top of me... never once offering an empathetic apology or any understanding that without boarding for my dog our weekend was ruined. Tyler has the opportunity to use this as a teaching moment for his employee, instead he stated to me we can't come back because customers are not allowed to get upset with his staff. Though it appears to be ok for staff to be out right rude to a customer, when I was practically in tears over the situation. (Note: I did not cuss or say anything derogatory, only that I felt I should have been given some grace under the circumstances) We've been a customer for 15 years with no prior incidence to warrant this behavior. I guess it's a good thing this employee has a family member to provide her a place to work. Not only is my weekend ruined but I now need to make other boarding arrangements for the future. Buyer, be aware you are not an asset to this business. In response to the business reply: your statement is false (you've lied on a public forum) and supports my comment that customers are not important to your business. There was zero resolution offered from your side and as the customer it's not my responsibility to set the tone- it's yours. Your employee was unkind to me and every interaction since has been to blame me. Shame on such behavior from a business who claims to value customers. read more

I've taken my son (my corgi) to this place many times on the recommendation of a friend, and let me just say that the personal touch they have here is bar none. When I walk in, even if I only took him once that week or haven't been there in a week or two, they know who I'm bringing in/picking up. They actually seem to supervise the dogs because every time I come in they have a little anecdote of his day playing and having fun. That along with the little report card they provide each time makes me all too willing to give them my business. I'm very happy that I come to this place, and so does my son - he gets so excited every time he goes and he comes home nice and tired! read more

First review about this place and I may edit if my experience changes: It is our Beagle's first week here. Our dog has some anxiety/fear toward strangers (he is fine with dogs) and he's going through regular behavior training with Bark Busters (another great company). Before we moved to Reno, NV, we had paid a visit to Pet Play House and explained the situation to them. We travel a lot and need a safe/friendly place where the dog eventually feels comfortable just like where he used to go before we moved to Reno. The entire place seems well maintained including their overnight boarding areas, pet play areas, and common areas. The lobby is inviting, and the staff seems friendly. On my dog's first day there, he was obviously nervous, everything is new to him including the house, surroundings, people, and the daycare. He did bark a bit but it looks like the staff took it slow and eased him into the whole strenuous experience. We took a break next day and took him back there again and he jumped out of the car eager to go in and make friends again. The second time we took him there was better - he greeted the friendly girl who he met last time and it seems to be going okay. They gave him a really cute report about how his day went that we both found really funny. To most people, this review will be overly informative, but to those with dogs that are fearful/anxious, let me tell you know incredibly important it is to have such an establishment around. It is a sure-shot way to socialize them and tire them out in the process. I'm excited about eventually trying to board him there overnight and that should ease all our worries when we travel out of town. I loved pet play house. They always made sure my pet was tired by the end of the day. I HATE their staff. Rude over the phone, and the older gentleman was so rude/condescending to me it was insane. Seems like he has a problem with women. Never been treated like that in my life. He told me that my dog wouldn't be able to go to daycare because she had kennel cough. I informed him upon drop off that she gets over excited and tends to gag or puke in the morning when she knows she will be playing with dogs. After he sent me away (on a day that I was supposed to be working might I add) I immediately took her to the vet. There is no reason she should have kennel cough as she wasn't coughing at home. Turns out he sent her home for no reason. Vet cleared her and said that she was just overexcited, that was a hefty vet bill might I add. The older guy had told me that they sent out an email over the weekend about kennel cough, I simply stated that I never received it. In fact I generally don't receive emails from here. He snapped "well YOU HAVEN'T READ IT but you received it". Oh I didn't know he had access to my email. I can assure you that my inbox is completely empty. I have told them multiple times that she is a puppy (8 months) and gets overexcited. I understand they need to take precautions, but they were aware of this occurrence AND they treated me like garbage. If they treat their customers like this I can only imagine how they treat the dogs behind closed doors. Disgusting. Not looking forward to the defensive and rude response that I see on other yelp reviews as well. read more

My big black lab loves the Pet Playhouse! He nearly pulls my shoulder out trying to get into the facility in the morning and he does the same at the end of the day as he can't wait to get home, eat dinner and take a nice long nap. I feel good knowing he's played to the point of getting tired. It's good for his attitude and weight control. He's an "only dog" so the Pet Palyhouse gives him a chance to socialize, which is really important. All the staff know Jeter's name and they have been very gracious despite his lack of leash skills! Sometimes he opens up the dog door and lets himself in! I've also boarded Jeter there and I've never had a problem. I highly recommend the facility. read more

They play all day in two big rooms, an outdoor room and a little pool. There are enrichment activities each day, and your dog gets a report card each stay.
