I've taken my 2 dogs to Urban Hound about 5 times for boarding over the last couple of years. My dogs got Kennel Cough the 2nd time they were there. I blamed it on the medication was close to expiring. I kept taking the dogs there, which was a mistake. They got Kennel Cough again the last time they were boarded. I called the owner to voice my concern; she had nothing to say. She didn't ask how my dogs were doing or anything they were doing to clean the facility. My call was a waste of time. I love Urban Hound and so do my dogs. I have 2 small dogs (Charlie and Chewy) that I occasionally take in for doggie daycare to keep up with their socialization skills. Every time we come in we are greeted with a smile and they know them by name. Communication and customer service is awesome. In addition to group play doggie daycare they have overnight boarding (which I have yet to use) and a groomer on site which is convenient when I need to have their nails trimmed. I can't even believe I am just now leaving a review for Urban Hound! My husband works for Bishop Manogue and we first heard about Urban Hound because it is owned by one of his students and their family. When we realized how close it is to our house, we knew we had to use it for our pup! Mico is our Australian Shepherd who LOVES coming to Urban Hound. He gets so excited when we even mention the words "dog camp" around him (our nickname for this place) because he loves it so much. We started out taking him here for daycare when he was younger so he could get some energy out and play all day while my husband and I are at work. He's better at chilling at home now, but we still bring him sometimes because he loves it so much! You can drop your dog off at 7am and pick them up by 5:30-6pm (depending on the day). The daily rate is totally worth it for that long of a period! The rate is comparable for a Rover but you get an entire day of playing instead of just an hour like a lot of the Rovers offer. Plus it's even cheaper if you buy a punch pass for 10 daycare visits up front. The 10 visit pass is $190 which comes out to $19/day which you can't beat! They separate the bigger dogs from the smaller dogs which is nice. Plus you get a trial run day the first time to make sure it'll be a good fit for your dog! You can even purchase additional services like extra play time with a staff member, baths, nail cutting, etc if you want. We regularly board Mico here when we go out of town as well. Their boarding rates are reasonable ($45/night) and include access to daycare during the day, but they do up-charge during holidays and peak seasons which we think is still totally worth the price. Each dog gets their own individual room for the night which has a bed and a door with a large window for them to see out of. We drop off Mico's food with feeding instructions and a few toys! They'll also send you photos of your dog while you're away if you request them. Urban Hound recently launched an online portal which makes it even easier to request bookings and make sure all vaccines are up to date. We have had such a great experience with this business and have even referred multiple friends here--I think we have at least 4-5 friends that now bring their dogs here as well! We will definitely continue supporting Urban Hound! read more

If I could give them no stars, I would. I've been here multiple times to have my dogs nails trimmed, but the person who did it for us is no longer here. I have to give my dog a sedative to have this done, but she pooped and pulled her feet away (she's scared) so they decided she was too much trouble. Can't recommend enough. First time boarding my dog they gave me a tour beforehand to see what the facility was like. Let the new owner who was awesome and answered all of my questions. When I went to pick my dog up they said "no we are keeping her she's so sweet" lol, really eased my nerves because I didn't know how she did! When you board with them they do a temperament test so if you want to come back for daycare that's already done. My dog was WORE OUT from making new friends and playing. We love you urbanhound!!! My boyfriend and I recently got a puppy and the second she was old enough we started taking her to day care. We were a bit hesitant at first because our puppy, Tahoe, is very fearful of people and barks at everyone. Bringing her the first day, she was very noticeably nervous and I almost turned around and left, but I'm so glad I didn't! Over the next couple weeks, Tahoe began getting more and more comfortable. Now we are about 4 months into daycare and the other day tahoe slipped her leash and instead of running away, she ran to the daycare door! I was so relieved. Tahoe always gets wiggly and excited when she sees the employees. She will kiss them and get so happy. It is such an awesome feeling to be able to see your scared puppy becoming comfortable with other people. Tahoe is still a shy dog and still barks at strangers but she loves the people at urban hound! We even recently boarded Tahoe and I thought that maybe she would be a little off after spending her first night away from us but when we came to pick her up she was more interested in staying with her other dog friends then she was to come home! She always gets so much energy out and always comes home happy and tired. I also love that the employees always come out and meet you at your car, they always call her by name so they definitely pay attention to who is who. We have gotten videos of Tahoe playing at daycare which is so above and beyond. We get compliments on how Tahoe is an urban hound favorite. What a great local dog day care and boarding business!! All of the staff is super nice and take amazing care of our dog :) Their prices are also extremely affordable. We have also used their nail trim service too, so when you pick your dog up from boarding they are all set to go !! They also offer full grooming and private walks and play sessions for 1:1 time for your pet if you so choose. We have also never had any issues with any aggressive or unfriendly dogs! For us they get 4/5 stars because for healthcare professionals, their hours simply don't work for our daily schedules. We would use them every day we work for our dog but our 12hr work day is outside of their timeframe for both pick up and drop off. Additionally, both times we have boarded our pup we have specifically asked them to charge the card on file since a friend has picked the dog up for us (again our flights had landed outside of their pickup time frame) and both times they had the person picking him up use their card.... Venmo is fine but it is a little annoying when we specify that someone else will be picking him up and they still don't charge our card. He goes to daycare Monday-Thursday and is so sad when he has to stay home with me Fridays instead of playing with his friends. He literally drags me to the front door every morning, completely ignoring all of his very expensive training to be a well behaved member of society! He LOVES them! It was my first time to leave my dog as usually we have a dog sitter who comes to our house. We scheduled appointment and uploaded docs needed. On our scheduled day my dog did not hesistate to come inside. What i do like is its really play time for my dog I was confident and at peace knowing she will be OK for an overnighr stay. My first dog Daisy was only with me for 3 months before she passed, however she did spend a couple of weeks there while I was on vacation in Hawaii. Recently I had cause to be given a tour and service level peek into the inner workings and operations of this establishment. What I witnessed during the relatively short time I was there was alarming, and I feel responsible dog owners should be made aware of this so they may make an informed decision as to whether or not they desire for their pet to be cared for in such an environment as it stands at the time this review was written. While I was there I witnessed the reception area full of various peoples' dogs extremely excited at seeing their owners for the first time since they were left at the kennel in various states of being leashed within incident distance of each other. If the dogs decided to get seriously territorial and protective when freshly reunited with their owners (Can you imagine?) there was nothing to prevent them from doing so. Even the kennel techs seemed very ineffective and nonchalant while a pair of dogs almost got into it while I was observing in the lobby. In the back, there are whole groups of dogs left effectively unattended. I saw no technicians supervising entire pens full of smaller dogs. I'm not sure if everyone at this business assumes that smaller dogs are incapable of getting into serious fights or what, but they are. As for the bigger dogs, they did have a couple of employees watching them, but each of them was well outside of either play area. Had a serious event occurred, neither employee would have been able to make it inside the pens to intervene before someone's dog potentially had gotten seriously injured or worse. The dogs also wander about in these conditions with their own collars. This might seems like a minor thing to bring up, but these dogs are in a new area, in potentially stressful situations, with things on around their neck that can potentially get caught in things like fence grates. If you have the mental capability to read this review, then I am sure I do not need to go into graphic detail as to the ways this situation can go sideways. Responsible kennels will not let dogs in with their own collars, they will print their own with all the relevant info on a brightly colored collar that will tear off it gets caught on something. The staff seem nice enough and the facility itself is almost designed to be a good kennel facility. At the very least, your dogs will not be uncomfortable when they are in their individual rooms. The issues lie with the competency of the human element running things. Maybe things will change. For the sake of dogs whose owners do not take heed of this review, I certainly hope they do and this becomes obsolete. Until then there are plenty of other, safer locations in the Reno/Sparks area to take your dog. read more

I took my dog to Urban Hound. When I was waiting for my dog, I witnessed a younger girl (fresh out of high school) that seemed to be managing the kennel-side. It smelled very poorly cleaned, and in other rooms I could see feces that were not cleaned up as I was in the kennel area. The young 'manager' that was there was doing very little in the way of maintenance/cleaning, relying on her fellow (also noticeably inexperienced and young) employees to do the job as I was waiting. It was not busy at the time I went, and the 'manager' took forever to give me my dog. I was waiting there for 20 minutes while seemingly little work was being done. She made eye contact while I was waiting at the kennel area but ignored me for several minutes (it was not busy). I am disappointed and concerned with the status of this dog booking facility. The one positive thing I will say is the front office receptionist was extremely helpful and did all she could to accommodate me. However, the kennel side of the facility left much to be desired. I saw dogs getting dragged out of the kennel and rooms without regard for their happiness or wellbeing. I heard them whining and barking without adequate attention or space. No one should be worried about their dog getting neglected and uncared for at a professional kennel. read more

I started taking my Zachary here in late November, we had just put down our Labrador after 12 years due to a brain tumor, he was lonely so we thought it would be nice to have him around others while we were in church. He is 14 years old and has a heart problem needs daily meds. On February 16, 2020 while we were in church (right next door to Urban Hound) he escaped and is lost somewhere in the housing track behind Grace Church. Today is Thursday 2/19 and he is still missing . We are both devastated and both of us are seniors. When I asked the owner what are we going to do about this he responded "I don't know " he tried to throw it off on his employee. HE is the business owner!! HE alone takes ALL responsibility!!!
