This is by far the most high functioning non-profit origination in Northern Nevada. Mack and Robyn are true angels walking on earth to help us all with this special breed AKA Mastiffs. It smells clean and the meals are hand crafted every day by Mack and Robyn. So much thought is put in every dish with bits of pumpkin and cottage cheese and if needed supplements. Phillip is the facilitator in delivering all meals and making sure everyone is nice and clean at all times. I could not believe how fast and gentle he is with all residents on board. I fell in love with Tommy and Lavinia as they are Neapolitan mastiffs. Sugar cakes and Samson are so adorable. Upon arrival we were not sure if our Cleo would be a good fit for her long stay due to military deployment. This unforeseen deployment was difficult to let go of our little loved Cleo. But! It was a perfect match made in heaven. We were moved in the positive energy Robyn, Mack and Phillip radiate. The open stretch of land and the view is just like heaven. So peaceful and of course you feel safe. LOL The thoughtfulness and unconditional love sugar-land Ranch offers to Military solders dogs is truly a blessing. I have been holding off on posting a review for this place because I selfishly wanted to keep this gem all to myself but I can no longer live with myself if I don't share this place with the world. If you truly love your dog and think of your dog as a family member then this is your place. Mack and Robyn know dogs and know how to make your dog feel comfortable while they are boarded. I am a bit of a helicopter dog mom and boarding has always concerned me. To the point I worry about my dogs while on vacation. I used to board at Dog Gone Amazing because they trained my boys but once they moved to the downtown location, I was very nervous due to the location near the railroad and constant activity and noise in the area. My husband's co-worker recommended Sugarland and had been using them for a decade and only had great things to say about them. I will warn you, they care about dogs and dogs well being so they are strict with how they run their facility. You must show proof of boarding vaccination every 6 months, your dog can't be part of a day dog care facility, and the pick-up and drop off times are specific. Phillip is the main dog handler employed there and he is diligent. Sugarland is the first time EVER I have dropped off my dogs for boarding and never once worried about them while on vacation. Mack and Robyn also donate their time and resources in helping mistreated animals. This place is really too good to be true. I have boarded my two dogs with them now four separate times for about a week each time (roughly a month in total) and I am more them pleased with Sugarland. I hope they continue their boarding for years to come because after having the best, I have no clue what I would do without them. read more

We had taken our dogs to Sugarland Ranch several times and were pleased with the cleanliness and the owners. However, we recently took our dogs there on July 30 and picked them up on August 2. The Jack Russell came out very slowly and lethargic. We were concerned because this is not usual behavior for him. We watched him throughout the day and he only wanted to sleep. He began to throw up. We took him to our vet first thing in the morning. He had a temperature of 104+. Upon further examination she discovered that both of his front legs, his back leg and his chest had many small puncture wounds that had become infected. She thought they looked like puncture wounds from a small animal. He was so sick. She put him on two antibiotics, antinausea pills and I was to wipe his legs during the day with sanitary wipes. My husband called Mack at Sugarland Ranch and he denied any liability or responsibility for this accident. How could he have been attacked so badly and no one noticed??? Where is the supervision??? He also lost two pounds, which is a lot on a 15 pound dog. They didn't even notice he wasn't eating?? What kind of care is this? Mack was very insistent and refused to cooperate with our request for a full refund for the stay and the $800 vet bill. We will be taking them to small claims court. His lack of care and responsibility could have caused the death of my dog! read more

Mack, Robyn and Philip are caring, competent and wonderful when it comes to taking care of dogs. There is always trepidation when we go away as to how the dogs are doing, are they being cared for, comfortable. Can they run, etc. We have had the dogs at Sugarland Ranch a dozen times, as have our friends, and I have no concerns or stress over their care while we are going. These people are first class. This was our first time boarding our dogs at Sugarland Ranch. The normal boarding place we used to use closed and Sugarland came highly recommended from a friend. Oh my goodness! From the moment I walked into the place I knew our fur babies would be in good hands. It felt like home! Mack insisted I see the kennels where our dogs would stay. My first impression was my goodness, it's so clean! They offer special feeding included in the boarding cost. I was over the moon!!!! Picking them up I was apparently late (I promise that won't happen again), but being our first time they were very, very understanding. You can tell that these folks genuinely care for their animals and ours! My puppies (ok,not really puppies but big ol' labs) came running out so happy! I took my two German Shorthair Pointers to Robyn and Mack at Sugarland Ranch and plan to take them back during our next vacation. My dogs looked great when I picked them up after a week. Robyn and Mack kept me updated on their status the entire time we were out of town. My dogs are my kids so when it comes to leaving them with someone I am the pickiest person. The kennels are large and clean. And the areas for my GSPs to run around in are large open spaces. The dogs need room to run and Sugarland Ranch has it all. read more

Both my Airedale Terrier, Spencer, and I love this place! I always feel like I'm leaving my "fur baby" with "family" when I check him in for a stay. It's a 25 miles drive one way to board my Spencer Dog at Sugarland Ranch and it's definitely worth the drive for the care he receives while I'm away. Mack and Robyn are the best! read more

If you choose to board your dog anywhere other than Sugarland Ranch, you're doing a disservice to both yourself and your dog. We've got an amstaff, and we've encountered some "bully breed" prejudice in the past, so we're really particular on the rare occasion that we have to go somewhere without him. The staff were some of the warmest, most inviting people we've met on our travels. They treated us like family, and we felt immediately at ease. The staff here are 100% dedicated to the animals in their care and are happy to go the extra mile to ensure your dogs comfort throughout their stay. The dogs eat like royalty and get plenty of play time throughout the day. And if you give them permission, they have some amazing treats that'll make your dog forget you're even gone. They don't sneak in extra charges like some boarding places. I really can't recommend them enough. From here on out, if we're within driving distance and our pup needs a place to stay, we're going to Sugarland Ranch. read more

I am so incredibly happy with this place. It is very close to my home, friendly and experienced staff, they also live on site which makes me comfortable. I took a short tour of the facility so I was able to view where my fur kids would be staying and playing. I like that the owner Mack was very thorough and trusting in his routine for my dogs. I have two German Shepherds, I was able to call at any time to check up on my dogs, being that it was their first time I was extremely concerned. I love that I was not required to take food, toys or treats (even though i did), they actually use the same 'no grain' food that we do from costco (salmon). Mack was such a great host and loved our pets so much as if they belonged to him. Mack and his wife are very proud and dedicated to their job and I will continue to be a customer. I took my dog to stay here for 7 days. Our stay started out well. Mack was friendly and gave me a lot of information about Mastiffs while filling out the paperwork. The young man who took my dog seemed very calm and kind. It was picking up my dog when the trouble began! We called ahead to pick up our dog on the way into town. We live in Reno and we were traveling from Susanville. I wanted to get my dog before the 11:00 pick up time the following day as we would have to pay for another day. It was very hard to get a hold of the staff/owners. I had to send two emails to set up the stay and their hours are limiting. Anyway, we decided to stop and try and pick him up. We pulled into the parking lot. There was no gate or closed sign. It was about 8:00 but still light. I stepped out of the truck and a big mastiff came out barking. I did not feel threatened but stayed near my truck. All of a sudden an older women comes flying around the corner yelling at me to get into my truck. I can assume it was Robyn. She told me I shouldn't be there. I had disrupted the dogs and they were closed. She asked me what I wanted and I said I had come to get my dog. She said I should know better than to come after hours, after all I had been there enough before. I found this odd as I had never been there before. I told her it was my first time there and it would be my last. She replied ,"Good!" and proceeded to repeat her scolding. I could tell her yelling was upsetting the Mastiff. I stayed by my truck and asked if I could get my dog or not. She said of course you can get your dog. She ordered the young man to go get my dog. We put our dog in the cab and proceeded to leave. She continued to stand on the porch and glare at us in a very hostile and angry fashion until we left her sight. I can understand her position. We came late and way past hours. In retrospect, I would have waited. I guess I just really wanted to see my dog after a week. I do think a gate, a closed sign, or very specific directions stating you may not pick up your dog after hours would have alleviated this incident. I would have respected any of these communications. My regret aside, I do think her anger was excessive and completely extreme. I can only hope she is better with the dogs than she is with humans. It worries me that someone with that excessive of a temper is caring for dogs who are unable to tell their owner how the treatment was. My dog did appear to be well cared for; however, based on this belligerent encounter, I cannot recommend Sugarland Ranch and will look elsewhere in the future for dog care. read more

Mac and Robyn are truly dog people. They have the mastiff rescue organization, and they run a dog hoarding place here. I was amazed at how nice and caring they were, both for my dogs and for me. The dogs have an air conditioned room (nice in the Reno summers), pens that are out of sight of other dogs, and best of all Robyn even makes special dinners for the dogs with chicken, sweet potato, etc. Dogs get individual play time (dogs from one family play together, but they don't play with other dogs to prevent fights). My dogs had a great time, and I fully trust Mac and Robyn to take good care of them. We'll definitely stay here again on our next visit. I highly recommend them. read more

Sugarland Ranch is located on a beautiful open stretch of land. Our dog is a little more high strung and requires some additional attention and I feel 100% confident leaving him at Sugarland Ranch. My dog does have a little bit of separation anxiety, but always seems excited to go and comes back home acting himself. I believe they live on site and are willing to accommodate any need. This kennel probably offers the most specialized services if required. Prior to boarding here, I visited a few other kennels and they were unable to take my dog out as frequently as needed. In the past we avoided going on vacation or brought our dog with us. Now I can enjoy time away from home knowing my dog is in great hands. The owners are not just business owners they are dog handlers that are just as or more knowledgeable than any of the patrons coming in. It is very apparent that they care for these animals as if they are their own. They take pride in getting to know their customers and animal visitors by name. read more
