I went looking for a boarding facility because one of my two dogs made her displeasure with 3x daily pet sitting known by peeing on the floor repeatedly. I chose RenoTahoeDogs because I knew the home atmosphere wouldn't be as stressful for my two girls as a traditional kennel would be. I wanted to meet David and his dogs before committing to leaving my girls there, so he offered to meet me and my dogs at the park where he exercises dogs daily on Fitness Adventures (additional cost beyond boarding). I've left the dogs with David on two occasions now. Once was two days with one overnight and the other was a full week. On both occasions I requested Fitness Adventures and my girls received all the exercise I expected plus some. My lab loves hopping in the river now and then along the trails David uses, and the shepherd can actually tire herself out on his 3-4 mile hikes. He always sends a picture and stats from the Fitness Adventures. Most importantly, they returned home happy after each visit, albeit a little quiet and tired. They didn't pout about being brought back there for the second visit, either. This was a giant relief to me because my lab girl is very sensitive and has suffered from separation anxiety in certain situations, and the shepherd girl can get growly with other dogs if she feels uncertain. David's very quick to respond to email and even answered the phone for my initial call. I did fill out his online form requesting information a week or more before I called, but didn't receive a response on that. My advice is to call if the form fails you, because he may not have received it. I receive daily updates and usually a daily picture while my girls are there. David also sends stats on the Fitness Adventure, including time and distance. David's friendly, accommodating and obviously enjoys the dogs. I'll continue to board my dogs there and would recommend his services without reservation. read more

I recently gave Reno/Tahoe Dogs a try when my girlfriend and I were visiting Reno for the weekend. It was important to us to have a great boarding place for our 3-month old puppy. Before our trip, I had a good and efficient communication with David, and he was aware that we were bringing a 3-month old puppy who had not been boarded before. He definitely has the "IT Systems" aspect of his business sorted out. We arrived ~9:30 pm, tired from the traffic-laden drive from the Bay Area. David met us, and he commented that she was smaller than he expected. We spoke for around 5 minutes, he took our puppy and let her loose with 2 other dogs in his back yard. We didn't get to meet the other dogs. We asked if there was anyone back there with the dogs and he said no and that this was the way the dogs were going to meet. I was thinking "hmmm, is that the socialization approach for a puppy and adult dogs, putting them together in the dark, at night, without a proper introduction?" Not how I would have handled it, but I figured that he knew what he was doing, and we drove off. As were were pulling up to our hotel, 15 minutes later, David called with panic in his voice and said "you need to come pick up your dog now". I'm thinking oh boy, here we go. When we arrived back at David's house, our puppy was in the garage, in her crate, with David standing there. Apparently when David approached the puppy, it gave him a "blood curdling scream", was acting "aggressively", ran away, and pooped on his light colored carpet. David returned our money, and advised us that the hotel we were staying at accepts pets. Luckily he was right, at a higher cost "pet room", obviously wasn't the cool weekend "getaway room" I reserved. It goes without saying that having the puppy along substantially changed the nature of our activities that weekend. I still don't quite understand what happened. The puppy is socialized daily, with other adult humans, dogs and 3rd graders, and we have never had a problem before. She is a handful, like all puppies, but my young daughter handles her just fine. I don't have as much experience as David, but I suspect that tossing the puppy in the back yard without some transition time was the root cause of the problem. I'm very disappointed at the outcome and the lack of problem solving. Giving me my money back at 10:30 pm on the start of my weekend was not an acceptable outcome. read more

David is amazing. We took our golden doodle for a week long stay while we went on vacation. We have never left our dog with anyone and I was very anxious. After the original meet and great I did feel better. While we were out of town David sent pics and updates to help with my anxiety. (Our dog didn't have any problems though and loved it!) Fisher, our Golden Retriever, loved his stay at Reno Tahoe Dogs. David was professional, organized and was a true animal lover. Drop off was smooth and although the location was unfamiliar, Fisher seemed comfortable right away. At Reno Tahoe Dogs, dogs stay in the owners home or backyard, which is superior, in our opinion, to a kennel. During our trip David provided frequent email updates and photos of our happy dog which allowed us to relax and enjoy our time away. Fisher went on a couple of Fitness Adventure walks during his stay which he seemed to love! We had a great experience leaving our two beloved dogs with David! We have an 8 month old puppy and a 12 year old 3-legged dog - both dogs have only stayed with family and friends when we leave town. Have never had to kennel the dogs and really didn't want to go that route..so was so happy when we found David through an online search and saw the glowing reviews. This really was the next best thing to leaving the dogs with friends/family. He was very responsive prior to the dogs stay and kept us updated almost daily while we were gone - emails including pictures! And here's the amazing part - the puppy had an eye infection when we dropped her with David - this infection just wasn't going away because the puppy was so resistant to getting the drops in her eyes. She would go crazy when we tried to put them in...well....I left the drops with David and told him "good luck" and low and behold her eyes were much improved when we picked her up AND she now takes the drops from us with absolutely no struggle. David somehow fixed that little problem for us! We will definitely use David's services again in the future. read more

I am so glad that I found RenoTahoeDogs! David took wonderful care of our newly adopted German Wirehaired Pointer. We had to leave town for a few days and were very hesitant to board our recently rescued pup. David eased our minds beginning with the first call. He was incredibly prompt, responsive and understanding of our needs/concerns. He was also incredibly accommodating to our schedule for both pick-up and drop-off times. I felt relaxed all weekend knowing that David was taking great care of our dog, Orbit. I was especially relieved to know that he used a GPS collar for walks, since our dog is a wanderer at heart. I liked that David, the owner, was very professional and had specific instructions on what was required of his customers and what services he provides. When I arrived he showed me around the fully fenced yard and introduced me to his dogs. I felt comfortable leaving my dog with David and he would send me updates and pictures. My husband and I recently moved to the area, and sadly had to leave behind a fantastic boarding facility at our previous location. After an unpleasant experience at one of the large daycare/boarding centers in town, we were worried we wouldn't be able to find a place where we would feel comfortable leaving our golden retriever, Ralphie, when going out of town. Fortunately, we found Reno Tahoe Dogs! David was fantastic! He responded to our initial email within minutes, was flexible with pick-up/drop-off times, and sent us many pictures while we were away. When we picked Ralphie up, she was as happy as can be! She was very happy to see us, but you could tell she was sad to leave David and his dogs. We loved the experience so much, we decided to book Reno Tahoe Dogs for our next two vacations! We love that she has the opportunity to play with other pups while we are gone, but will not be overwhelmed by dozens of other dogs the entire time. I'm stoked to have found RenoTahoeDogs. It's close to my house and David has watched my lab multiple times (one stay was for 4 nights). I like the fact he deals with a smaller number of dogs at his own residence and is selective as far as the breeds he boards. He also emails pictures of your dog when you are away. My girlfriend loves that. I also like the fact my dog gets walked every day as he needs it badly. He seems like a true animal lover as he has two nice rescue dogs of his own. I used to board my lab at Fantasia but their service was questionable and I had heard some rumors. My dog also came home from Fantasia with a chemical burn on his testicles, kennel cough (not really their fault) and scratches on different occasions. There's just way too many dogs at some of these other places and they don't always cater to your requests even though they say they will. I know my lab is much happier after an overnight or daycare stay with David. read more
