They train the owners as well as the dog. We have learned a lot about our boy. We are continuing training into more advanced classes.

first went to PJs 13 years ago with my first goldendoodle. We started in the puppy social classes when he was 9 weeks old as he had his first set of shots. We went onto do 3 levels of classes with him. Classes were hands down the best investment we made for him, and he went on to live a wonderful fear-free life. I attribute his high quality of life to his basic training classes and the time we put in when he was a puppy. He learned from a very young age how to settle and be calm in lots of different situations. He learned to trust our directions which kept him safe. Puppy social is in my opinion one of the best classes to put a young puppy in. They get to meet other dogs and people in a safe environment, and the puppies teach each other soft bite and learn how to be social. We recently brought a new puppy into our lives. I love the structure of Pjs classes where your puppy is with the same dogs for the 6-week duration. The happy little puppies can all see each other during the class at Pjs, no barriers (unless required to reduce stress of the pet). I like the scaffolding approach that PJs classes offer. You build the dogs' confidence and skills up in a logical way for them to learn. Plus, the puppies are all watching each other learn the same things. It's adorable. Our new puppy has done several levels of classes at Pjs' beautiful new facility in Sparks and HE LOVES IT. He just completed his AKC Canine Good Citizen, we can now consider therapy work down the road with him. He is so excited to get in the door for any play group I take him to and to his classes. We absolutely loved Rally O with Susie, she is amazing. We have referred Susie to friends with some rescues for consultations and they have been super happy. We will complete all the classes PJ dog training offers, because our dog just loves to learn, he really likes to use his brain. He exudes happiness when we get to class. Thank you, PJ and Susie, for helping us raise a happy confident dog yet again and offering such great classes. Highly recommend Pjs, they have so much experience and are CCPTD certified. They also give you time at the beginning of any class for a quick discussion on any "challenge areas". You learn so much to help you understand your dog's behavior. All classes use positive reinforcement. You learn to build a trusting relationship with your furry family members from a place of respect and love. The facility is always so clean, and they take excellent care in making sure your puppies are safe and not exposed to any bugs. We have never had any problems. 10 stars from us!! read more

Susie is a great trainer. She is very knowledgeable and patient. I did both a private consultation where she spent the time walking with my dog and me and educating me on all the training tips, and also the group class. I like the mix between instruction and trying the activities with my dog. I would highly recommend dog training with Susie. read more

Dog Training by PJ has helped our rescued golden retriever so much. Winston has graduated from 3 obedience classes taught by Susie Jensen, and he has become a much better behaved, calm, and confident dog. As a rescue dog, he is reactive to other dogs, although he loves people. Susie did an in home consultation and gave me guidance about helping him overcome reactivity, then he started obedience classes. He loves the classes and even enjoys practicing his new skills at home. Dog Training by PJ is reward/affirmation based, and they do not use or recommend prong or shock collars. Response: You said to me out loud that you don't train dogs when we came back from the walk. Which I clearly observed. Giving Luna treats to have her warm up to you is not a new thing, we do that with strangers all the time. Luna warms up to everyone eventually, she just barks a lot at first and that is what I need help working on. You did not help me on the walk you just walked along side us and said she is great, which I already know. She is a great dog, that's not the issue. The issue is the barking. I'm Looking for a trainer to help me train Luna, not just talk to me and give me printouts at the end of the session for $150. I stand by my review and pointed out that if people just need information about dogs they may like your services, but I did not need this info I need someone to work with my dog. read more

I would recommend PJ's for the puppy playtime, and then again for the classes. The playtime is crucial for puppies, and I am so happy that PJ's offers such an amazing environment. I have brought my Aussie, Tumble, since he turned 8 weeks old and have seen such a massive change in him. When he first came to playtime, he was very shy and hid between my legs, now he happily trots around, greets people, and will play with some of the lower/moderate energy dogs (he isn't much of a high energy player, but loves to run). The trainer in charge of playtime, always Susie in my experience, calmly watched everything and does a great job at explaining behaviors to everyone. I am only in one class right now, the puppy kindergarten with Susie, and am very happy with it. I have learned some alternative ways to train things such as "leave it", and it has given Tumble the chance to learn in a more distracting environment. I think I will look into agility classes when he gets a bit older because he showed some aptitude for it in a workshop also hosted by PJ's. read more

We took our puppy(Whiskey) to the 6 week puppy basics class. Was a good value for $120. We learned lots and had fun. Susie was our trainer and she was very knowledgeable and helpful. She took time with each family and puppy throughout the sessions and made sure to answer our questions. It was fun to see all the puppy's learn and grow throughout the sessions. It seemed as though mostly larger breeds dog attend since out of 8 or 9 we had the only small dog but we were glad to have the opportunity to have our little guy be around big dogs in a safe environment. They offer many other classes and playgroups and reasonable prices and we will be sure to go back to learn more. read more

I rescued a dog from PJ 8 years ago (Chip). He is very special needs. PJ kept in touch with me and helped me through dealing with such a broken spirited dog. I got another dog and was being very possessive and attaching my Chip. So as usual, Pam is always willing to talk to me and give advice on dealing with different behaviors. We took a puppy kindergarten class with Susie. It is a basic commands class. This class helped our Frankie get out of her shell and learn how to play with other dogs. She is still working on the things taught, but once mastered we will be taking another class! I really enjoyed that at the beginning of each class Susie asked what we were struggling with and gave us tips on how to make it work! read more

My dog just completed level II "Brilliant Buddies" after finishing level I puppy class here earlier. I have to say, my husband and I have been really pleased with the results. Our Rottweiler was 10 months old when we started training and was incredibly unruly on the leash. She only knew two commands: come and sit. After completing the level I "Pits and Bullies" class which focused on the larger "aggressive" breed dogs, our pup had become much better on the leash, knew stay, down, several tricks like spin and "stick um up" as well as over heeling commands and better recall. For level II we had the same trainer, Rosalie, who has been wonderful. She truly loves dogs and is full of helpful tips and training advice. She is also good about helping out if you are struggling with a particular command. For example, my dog was struggling with the "wait" and "leave it" commands, but Rosalie demonstrated several helpful ways to keep the dogs attention and get results. Class sizes have been small so far. The level I class had 4 dogs and her level II class had only 2 dogs. So there is lots of one-on-one attention paid to your particular puppy, and you don't feel cramped for space. I'm totally enrolling Frigga (my dog) in either Rally-O or Dancing with Dogs next month. Both sound super fun and a great was to continue working on leash manners now that Frigga has mastered the more basic skills. read more

You will get more than your money's worth from PJ's puppy training course. The weekly, hour-long sessions are informative and fun. But the added value comes in weekly email participants receive, which includes multiple videos and homework. We moved to Reno from the Washington, DC area where this type of training costs nearly $1,000. (I know because I looked around for training while we lived there.) PJ has a great sense of humor and sunny approach to puppy training. I'm grateful to have so many resources I'll be able to refer to once the course ends. We researched quite a few dog training facilities in the Reno/Sparks area before choosing Dog Training with PJ and we couldn't be happier with our choice. We are learning the tools we need to train our toy poodle using positive reinforcement and are having great results. No intimidation, scare tactics or shock collars here! Our puppy gets excited when it's time do practice his "lessons" and it has been a great bonding experience. The cost is reasonable and the group class sizes are small enough to get personalized instruction and questions are always welcomed. When I first got my puppy he was very skittish of people to the point where my vet said she was worried about it. Her assistant referred me to PJ's and I'm so glad she did. Socializing a puppy is really hard for the first few weeks before they are fully vaccinated, you can't take them anywhere for fear that they will get parvo. I started taking Rush to PJ's puppy play groups and after 2 sessions his attitude did a complete 180. He loves going there now and it totally wears him out which is a plus for us. He also did the 6 week puppy training course with Christina and they were amazing! Very informative and fun! Can't wait to sign him up for brilliant buddies. Keep up the good work! I have a mini Aussie named Taggart. We took him for training elsewhere and it was long, drawn out, and very basic. Then we went to PJ. We learned a ton on how to train him and we've had spectacular results. Taggart is a model citizen. He's really polite on a leash. He listens and does well on all of his commands including stop, sit, wait, and stay. He also does amazing tricks like spin left, spin right, spin the other way, roll over, belly crawl, hands up. I'm very happy with the results PJs helped us achieve. read more

So far so good we took our pup to puppy play she loved it there are a lot of other breeds of dog for our dog to get friendly with. Only issue I had is only one staff member to supervise all the pups who basically said just keep an eye on your own dog for any issues. Other than that very friendly. read more

I am a little short on time but I want to still say that we have been using Susie with Dog Training By PJ for 7 weeks now. She has turned our scared, problematic puppy into a happy well behaved (Mostly) puppy. She uses positive reinforcement ONLY. Which has had the most incredible results. She has several different certifications and has a solution for every problem that I have seen arise. Our puppy was four moths old when we got him. He had never been out of the kennel and did not know how to go to the restroom outside. He had sever separation anxiety as well. He has not had an accident inside in three weeks and his anxiety is quickly subsiding. It has only been seven weeks and he has completely blossomed. We started with Puppy basics course one and upon graduating signed up for the step two course. The prices are VERY reasonable. I feel like I received a lot for my money. Truthfully, she has trained us as pet parents the proper way to help our puppy grow and learn. PJ and her trainers are amazing, experienced, knowledgeable, fun, and they are all avid animal lovers! They use positive reinforcement and do not bs you at all. I highly recommend her classes. Our puppy is a catahoula/aussie mix, if you know these breeds, you know they can be a handful. (I suppose all puppies are kind of a handful though.) After taking our pup to PJ's Puppy Kindergarden 101 classes and dropping in on puppy play every once in a while, for socialization, I can now communicate with my puppy much more efficiently than just yelling "NO" when I don't want her to do something and our puppy has learned a lot in those classes. The amount of knowledge my husband and I have learned through those 6 classes is amazing. I can't recommend Dog Training by PJ enough!!! The one caveat is - if you go through a class series and you do not practice what you learn with your dog and reinforce good behavior 99% of the time your dog will not reach its full potential. PJ gives you the tools to work magic with your pup, but it is up to you to use it! I plan on getting my puppy Canine Good Citizen certified through PJ when she is a bit older and after a few more classes. Go to Dog Training by PJ, you won't regret it! read more

Dog Training by PJ is by far the most amazing place to take your pups. However, to this day, I really think it should be "Human training by PJ" because in all honesty, I think I was the one who needed the training to understand dogs. We went to our first class just over 3 years ago with our German Shepherd mix, Chimmy. He started off with puppy kindergarten, then moved onto brilliant buddies, rally-o 1 and 2, dance, agility, CGC prep class and his CGC test. Plus several other workshops thrown in there. He had classes from both PJ and Christina and totally loves them. We would say "lets go to school" and he would get super excited. He is amazing, well socialized and an amazing companion. Then, last summer we rescued a stray dog from the humane society. We don't have a full history on her before we got her but you can tell that she just never learned to be a dog. She has many quirks and does strange things, however, we enrolled her into the adolescent class with Christina. It helped us understand her and she also learned her basic commands. It is amazing how that class alone helped her build the confidence that she did not have when we adopted her. She went from a scared pup to enjoying doing tricks by free shaping. The best part about these classes, they use positive reinforcement. You will see no shock collars, prongs, "Alpha dog" punishments, etc. Just a loving way to build confidence. You will love the classes and so will your pups! read more

Wow, I wish we had one of these trainers when we tried to have our Male Golden Retriever puppy trained by PJ's a few years back. We had a trainer by the name of Dale and it was horrible. Our male gets extremely excitable when he sees other dogs or children and we wanted to train him as a puppy. Dale's thinking was to put a gate around us and blankets over the gate so he could not see the other dogs. We asked her about this as we thought this did not make any sense. Of course it kept him from barking at the other puppies but it never solved the issue. She was also very rude and impatient with some of us. We were in a mixed puppy class of excitable puppies and puppies that had fear issues. We were not allowed to socialize. Needless to say, it turned us away from trainers. We would have taken the training further with PJ's but we were disappointed with the first training. We are now looking for a trainer again. We have a female Golden Doodle as well now. Where do I begin? I have a PBT and when she started with PJ she was 10 weeks old. Not only is the positive reinforcement training that PJ teaches AMAZING, the socialization aspect is above and beyond. We just finished puppy kindergarten and Gaia, who is only 16 weeks old mind you, is sitting on command, stays at the door when it's opened until she is told it's okay to go outside, crawls, lays down, and has the softest mouth! PJ works specific goals with you based on your dog and their personality. I have a kitty also, and when we first started Gaia, my puppy, was pretty rough with her, now it's a whole new thing! PJ sent me specific training just for dog/cat interactions and the two of them couldn't be happier together. I would tell anyone to take their dog here to this controlled, clean, positive environment! We are going to be beginning Brilliant Buddy classes in the next couple weeks and I am so excited!
