I had an overall enjoyable manicure and pedicure at Olivia's. The ambiance is different than your average nail salon. It's clean, quiet, simple. The chairs are furniture style--no loud massagers--and your feet are soaked in large earthy bowls of water. Really a nice vibe. So why the three star review? This place is known for "chemical free polish" that is supposed to be better for your skin and nails. I gave it a go on my toes and was surprised to see that the polish chipped on several toes THE NEXT DAY. I was super disappointed bc I had gotten the pedi in preparation for a vacation and now my toes weren't looking their best. Ok, no biggie. I went back to Olivia's and they did a polish change for free with the same polish--super nice of them. But the same thing happened--near immediate chipping. Sigh. When I moved to Baltimore this summer I was in search of a natural nail salon and Olivia was exactly what I wanted. They do not do acrylics, dip or try to drill your nails to death (hallelujah)! They have a large color selection that includes popular brands like OPI, as well as chemical free options. The chemical free option is a $5 up charge putting the total for a manicure at $40 which is a little more pricey than some other salons. The salon only has street parking out front which can be a little tricky depending on the time of day you go. Overall Olivia's is a high quality salon in the Fell's/Canton area of town that is a definite must try. Just a heads up they take cash tips only! I found this salon after a quick google and Yelp search and I'm so happy I stopped by! I love this place! It was also a totally pleasant surprise to see one of my favorite nail technicians in Baltimore, China (and now part owner!) working here. The decor is so fresh, relaxing and contemporary. They have a good selection of regular nail polish and gel colors, and many of them match. I received a pedicure and they were able to perfectly accommodate my design request. The nail technician that provided my pedicure was very kind and gentle. There are no massage chairs at the pedicure station, but I actually really liked the comfortable lounge chairs that you sit in instead. The price for a pedicure is comparable to most places in the city with a $5 up charge for a design. I believe they also offer complementary wine and water here. All in all, I can't wait to come back! It is remarkably quiet/relaxing because of the lack of those chairs and electric bowls going. Got a great pedicure with the seaweed (chemical free) gel. Honestly, I need to go have it removed because weeks later, the polish is still going strong with not a single chip! (I felt sorry reading that one review with the immediate chipping! I got a pedicure at Olivia's this a.m. and my feet are still tingling from the euphoric experience. This place is such a tranquil gem in the city! I'm a gym rat and MMA gal (bare foot on the mats multiple times a week) and really needed to get my feet taken care of during this holiday trip. I'm so glad I found Olivia's as it was such a wonderful experience. The location is off the corner of a street with ample parking. The inside is simple with a Zen feel. I made an appointment via text (numbers are listed on their website) over the weekend and was immediately seen. Unlike most nail salons and spas, this location doesn't have the klunky pedicure chairs with the electric basin. Instead, customers are given a stone-like bowl with a pedicure powder and a few flower petals. My attendee was wonderful and did a great job on my feet -- including going to town with the callus tools. (Remember, barefoot on MMA mats several hours a week.) My Everest pedicure came with the option of one of three (or four, I forget) exfoliating scrubs. I chose the tropical option that smelled divine. I also received a calf and foot massage, hot towel wraps for my calves, and a parrafin wax for my tootsies. Given the boot weather, my attendee knew I was going to put on shoes that weren't open-toed and added a finishing polish before placing my toes in sandwich bags -- so I could put my socks and shoes on. I got my first pedicure at Olivia this afternoon and all I can say is... Wow! It has been years since I've gone to a nail salon for nail services, but I decided to treat myself to a pedicure for finishing my first year of grad school. I made a same day appointment via phone and had no trouble finding parking in the surrounding area. Immediately upon entering Olivia, I was impressed by the cleanliness and modernness of the salon. I opted for the pacific/basic pedicure and my attendee, Amy, did a wonderful job. She was very detailed, and took her time tending to my feet. She periodically asked me if I was doing ok, which I appreciated. I really enjoyed the stone-like bowl filled with warm water that I could soak my feet in, and the amazing scented exfoliating scrub for my feet and calves. The massage was divine, and I would undoubtely go back to Olivia solely for the foot/calf massage. I called three different salons in the area to ask for an appointment and chose Olivia because the others had receptionists that were surprisingly rude and dismissive to me over the phone, whereas the receptionist here was polite and not annoyed by my call. It turned out to be a great choice! The salon is beautifully minimalist with huge bright windows, natural hardwood floors, a granite countertop sink, and lots of live plants for decor. It is the cleanest salon I've ever been to! Everyone was polite and made me feel comfortable. This place has a spa-like feel to it and noone rushes you through the process of getting your nails done. In addition, they sterilize their tools in between customers (as salons should) and remove the tools from the sterile blue packaging just prior to doing your nails. Malti did a gel manicure for me using the 5-free Bio Seaweed Gel polish, and I'm definitely going back to her next time. (Note: Olivia is one of only four salons in Baltimore that offer Bio Seaweed Gel polish. This gel polish is big-5 free, with no formaldehyde, toluene, DBP, BHA or solvents and is supposed to be gentler than regular gel polish on natural nails.) She is gentle with her cuticle care and pays very careful attention to detail, and is also just very sweet and personable. She prepped my nails with alcohol spray prior to getting started and applied a generous amount of cuticle oil and hand lotion when she was finished. Her hand massage was awesome! I'm going to have to tip her twice as much next time because I didn't have cash on hand and didn't realize they only take cash for gratuity. I used to love Olivia. Would go there every two weeks to get new gel polish on my nails and to get pedicures when my toes needed tending to. However, I feel like their quality and service has decreased with time. It's almost impossible to get a walk in appointment anymore. Then most of the time they non-chalantly say something like, "Oh come back in two hours", as if I have nothing else I'm doing that day. I understand it's a walk-in and it's my fault for not making an appointment, but it's extremely frustrating how un-apologetic they are. Especially since this used to NEVER be a problem that I had at this salon. Also, the last 2-3 times I had my nails done there they chipped within a week! Both my gel manicure and my pedicure. I don't know if they are using different polish or what, but I used to get a full two weeks out of my nails. Now I'm lucky if they last five days. And I know that they'll say, "we offer to fix your nails if they chip within the first week". No offense, but I don't have time to come back to your salon every time my nails have been chipping lately. Especially since they should just be lasting longer in the first place. I have had fabulous manicures from New York to California, but this has been my best overall nail salon experience. The salon was impeccably clean, airy, with a relaxing minimalist décor. The best part of my experience was the top notch customer service. I received a warm greeting upon arrival, and my manicure done by China was flawless. China used Bio Seaweed Gel (BSG) which is a healthier gel choice. According to BSG this gel will not cause damaged nails while still performing as a professional gel for weeks of chip-free high shine nails. The product does not stain, weaken or dehydrate the natural nails because they are big-5 free, meaning no formaldehyde, toluene, DBP, BHA or solvents BSG is odorless, dustless and safe for all ages and even pregnant women. Three days after my appointment and I am still loving my nails. The salon was beautifully kept, while also maintaining an incredibly high level of hygiene. Everything here was hands free, minus the manicure itself (obviously). The staff was wonderful and I felt like my technician truly took her time. I went with a deep purple OPI gel color, and loved the application. At the end, she also explained the 1-week policy on if a nail is messed up, which I really appreciated. My only wish for this place would be to advertise prices more. My gel nails were $35 which I believe to be completely reasonable, but it was hard to find the costs prior to my visit, I will definitely be going back in the future. read more

I REALLY wanted to give this place five stars. I had a pretty great experience. But sadly, my nails chipped less than 24 hours after my manicure. I was in town for a wedding and got a Pacific (basic) mani-pedi. Prices are more than reasonable, and the techs aren't pushy at all about upgrading. The space is open, airy, and bright. As others noted, it's well-ventilated and lacks the harsh chemical smell of many salons. The chairs are comfortable, and as someone who is immunocompromised, I appreciate them using stone basins for the pedicures. I also loved that the scrubs and lotions were organic and didn't have harsh, fake fragrance smells. My skin felt great! The techs take their time and were very gentle and considerate with the cuticle cutting. What docked the first star: -no way to make online appointments. -cash tips only. I had read this in several other reviews and came prepared but it's rare that I ever carry cash. -not exclusively chemical-free. I thought they only stocked 5-free and up polishes, but I only saw the standard OPI -The coats of polish weren't uniform. -No one checked to see if I my nails were dry. Each of these is a minor thing, but there were enough that I would have put it down to four stars. Then, I woke up Monday morning at 9am--my mani-pedi had been at 10:30am on Sunday--to three of my nails being chipped. As I write this now, two and a half days later, all but 3 nails are chipped. If we hadn't had to leave so quickly on Monday, I would have returned and asked for a polish change. OPI usually lasts 5 days before chipping for me and I'm so bummed that this one didn't even make it 24 hours. read more

This nail salon is a hidden gem. First off the whole place is very clean and quiet. No strong odors when you walk in. All of the technicians are highly skilled and very gentle with your nails. They don't use a Dremel on your natural nails and they really take their time, and are very meticulous with everything.
