Great dive bar! I usually come here to watch football, but it's great any other day as well. They have trivia on certain nights which is always fun. The wings are amazing, that's mostly why we come here. On the weekends it can get loud and crowded. Definitely one of my go to spots for a cold beer and some good wings! Truly the best sports bar in Media. The staff is fantastically attentive and they offer a good selection of brews. It's not a massive place so it's not a beer snob's Mecca, but, it definitely holds its own when it comes to neighborhood bars that appeal to those with a palette that lends itself to something more than the macro brews. My lifetime affection for dive bars was born here, at the humble Old State in Media, PA. Scene: One nineteen year old girl, rather stupid but adventurous, sitting at the giant horseshoe bar drinking Sierra Nevadas and Stilettos (Crown Royal and amaretto), surrounded by fat bearded biker dudes, lonely truck drivers, new-to-town West Africans, and other assorted nere'do wells. Jukebox wails out old country, eighties metal, and the occasional Dead song. Drunks shuffle between the pool table and the bar, paying in change, sometimes running a tab and ignoring it for weeks. A fryer behind the bar spits out wings, fries, and other nearly-indigestible snacks to soak up some booze. Andy, long-time bartender and owner, rules with an iron fist in a velvet glove, remembering everyone's name and usual poison. If I lived closer I'd still be there on Saturday nights, getting insanely drunk and betting on the bowling game. Good thing I moved. But I miss it. read more

This is easily my favorite bar I've ever been to. I hung out here regularly throughout my early 20s. The bartenders are amazing, they'll know your name immediately and remember it. Nice selection of bottled beer, and cheap mugs of bud, bud light or heineken, and full bar. The Old State has 10 cent wings on the weekends and monday nights. The bar was recently renovated and is now gorgeous inside, they have plenty of flat screens, a pool table, darts, juke box, and some arcade style games. Everything you need in a bar. Cash only. My wife and are are from the Reading area, here visiting Media. We stopped for lunch based on Yelp reviews. We were the only customers for lunch on Sunday. We had pepperoni flatbread, and the steak and mushroom flatbread. Very good food, good portions. Everything on the menu looked good, it was hard to make up our minds. Nice, basic selection of draft beers but we didn't see a beer menu. Prices about average but they seem to advertise a lot of specials. Very nice little local pub, the only one in Media with pool table, so said are very friendly and helpful server, Brooke. We'll be back. read more

I had a horrible experience. I placed an order on Uber eats from this place totally 40 dollars for 10 wings (16.00), fries (7 dollars), and 5 buffalo strips. After waiting 45 minutes the driver comes and has one box I immediately ask her is this all? She says yes she asked the woman at the restaurant was that everything. I called the restaurant the woman tells me all she saw was buffalo strips (which came dry and old) with little remorse but now she sees the rest she can drop it now. Long story short I didn't get a refund nor did I ever get my food didn't seem like the restaurant nor Uber gave a damn. read more

I found this hidden gem using the spotluck app. I went for lunch when I walked in at first it didn't look like a place I would want to eat. Definitely a dive bar. I still gave it a shot and I am sure glad I did. My girlfriend and I ordered spicy fried shrimp, wings and a burger all basic bar food being safe. I love crispy wings and these were cooked perfectly with a great sauce and probably my new favorite wings in delco. The sweet chili fried shrimp was a very big serving for a appetizer which was nice and very spicy but we couldn't stop eating them. Burger was very good as well cooked perfectly with a amazing bun. I will be back soon and I would recommend anyone in the area to give it a shot. read more

July 3, 2014. We celebrated my son's 40th birthday at Old State Tavern with about 35 friends and family. We had an awesome time. Andy, who has owned the Tavern for 50 years, and bar tender Mike T were very helpful. We were able to bring in hoagies and salads. Andy's wings and other kitchen food was great. Andy accepted tickets we gave the guests for a few rounds of drinks and we settled the tab at the end of the night. The bar service was fast and excellent. We will return for both partys and to grab a drink and tasty wings often. read more

What's that old line? I spent a weekend there one night. Gawd, so many great (mostly) memories of nights in this joint. The wings, Andy's drink concoctions ("Let's do a shot); Windy Night playing Thursdays (and letting me get on stage to sing "Take It Easy"), open mic nights on Tuesday. Watching West Coast baseball games late and talking ball with Mike behind the bar. The parking lot action. This was my dive "Cheers" in the late '80s and early to mid-'90s. Classic routine: I worked late shift Saturday night at the newspaper. After doing the press check, I'd call ahead and order a hot roast beef sandwich with everything (horseradish, hot and sweet peppers). 8-10 minutes later I'd walk in with Sunday newspapers under my arm, put them on the bar and within moments my sandwich would be in front of me. I'd wolf that down and be ready for at least an hour of serious drinking. I have never found a bar experience to replicate that slice of life, and sincerely doubt I ever will. Moved away in 1998 and been back just a couple of times, but the sounds, scents and sensations rattle around my brain to this day. The homesickness evoked is balanced only by the big smile on my face at this moment. read more
