location location location... A hidden gem! You get a New England feeling, like you're on vacation. The atmosphere was warm, inviting, and perfect for a relaxing evening. We began with cocktails, which were expertly crafted, beautifully presented, and perfectly balanced. The appetizer, mussels in a light white wine sauce and a hunk of sourdough bread for sopping up the broth, was fresh, flavorful, and set the tone for the rest of the meal. For the main course, the hanger steak was perfectly cooked, and full of flavor. I didn't love the chimichurri but it was easily wiped off... We also had the fish and chips, with big hunks of tender white fish and crispy homemade fries. We ended our meal with the only dessert offering, key lime pie that was fresh and tasty! If possible make your reservations for an outdoor table, so many beautiful birds and boats traveling slowly through. What kind of a family place does not allow anyone under the age of 15 for dinner?? Guess we won't be going there!

We were in the area for engagement photos- asked about local shops and were recommended the Old Mill Inn. It was late on a Tuesday evening but there was plenty of availability. Staff was so nice. Honestly, it gave us Bar Harbor / Maine vibes, red building by the water. We were so excited for the crab artichoke dip, and it was really good! Lobster roll and fish/chips were great as well. It's got a dark/moody ambiance, but there also seems to be a lot of history in the location which was a lot of fun! It seems like a lot of people hate that they don't have tea/coffee, but honestly I never get any so wasn't an issue for me. There isn't a lot of signal in the area though, FYI. So make sure you have an idea of how to get around if you're not from the area! read more

Arguably the best dining view and location on the North Fork! Service was good. Menu was not as seafood-plentiful as I'd wished for but more importantly was unfortunately notttt good enough to warrant the high prices. This was my first time to the Old Mill since its renovation. They did a nice job keeping the feel of the old place while updating the restaurant to current standards. Great views of Mattituck Inlet & a friendly staff to greet you. My fish & chips were great, so was the chicken wing appetizer. My lady's burger wasn't that great, the meat was over cooked and not much flavor. Other than that it was all good. Great place to grab a drink too! read more

Went on a July Wed night. Hard to get a reservation. TLDR: expensive and not memorable. Expected the pricing. But since that's a given, the food/experience has to be worthwhile. Setting is great and relaxing but both indoor and outdoor music was blaring. Food is good but appetizer portions are small (for $20 ballpark). Fancy sounding menu items but just like nothing that blows you away with Taste or quality. It was fine, for $70 pp. and that was with 2 non-drinkers. Wanted to love love love it but just didn't . This was our first visit to the renovated restaurant, and the experience was disappointing on so many levels. The ambiance in the inside dining area was non-distinct and kind of depressing, despite the waterside location. Certainly not reflective of a building that has undergone extensive renovations. Oddly, our seats and table were noticeably wet, so we had to have them wiped down before we could be seated. Cocktails were very small, nothing special, and cost a whopping $20. A small glass of house Chard was $16. The menu was very limited. I wanted to order a half dozen oysters and they had two types. I asked if they could bring three of each and they said they could only mix them if I ordered a dozen. Very poor response (and pretty lame upsell attempt) that made no sense whatsoever. When our fish dishes came, the portions were small and the fish was overcooked, which is inexcusable for any restaurant that features seafood at premium prices. The vegetable accompaniments with the fish were overly salty. When it came time for dessert, they had only one option - key lime pie. We asked about coffee and tea and the server said that they do not have either because they have no room for a coffee machine. You really cannot make this stuff up and again, what were they thinking when they spent a million+ on the renovation? Also noteworthy is the parking situation, as we saw a "park here" sign when we approached the restaurant and drove down an unpaved path to the dirt/stone parking area. Walking to the restaurant was not too bad, but the walk back after dark was outright dangerous, as they had no lighting and the ground had a lot of low spots/small potholes. There were some small lights on a fence when we got to the parking area, but they were essentially useless. They are setting themselves up for quite a lawsuit, especially if an elderly customer trips and falls. This establishment fails in all categories and offers zero value, given the high prices and poor execution. There are so many better options on the North Fork, so my recommendation would be to avoid the Old Mill Inn. read more

On our first visit, we noticed how cool the seats by the kitchen looked -- so this time, we asked to sit there. We were told those seats were taken, which we understood... until we saw the manager sitting there the whole time. That really set the tone -- disappointing and honestly a bit disrespectful to guests. I ordered a martini, and it was one of the worst I've had. Sent it back, and the second one was just passable. Then came the appetizer confusion -- they brought out something we didn't order, something not even listed on the menu. Eventually, they got it right, and at least they didn't charge us for the wrong one. But between the bad drink, the seating situation, and the mix-up, you'd think they'd comp something or offer a genuine apology. Nope. The food itself was very good, but when the hospitality falls short, it's hard to fully enjoy it. The outside renovation was well done, the location is nestled in a secluded nature area with clear view of the water, boats and osprey, however the interior, although redone, is now a tight space that left our party of 4 feeling cramped in with limited space at the table. The service was fine and the food was just okay. We ordered several appetizers, main dishes and drinks and not one dish was anything memorable. We were there for lunch and apps ran about $18 each, main dishes $24 and drinks a stiff $18 thank you. Our bill for two drinks, chicken wings, oyster sliders, artichoke dip, a Cesar salad, fish and chips and burgers was over $300 with tip. Let me say that if we didn't feel cramped in like sardines and the food blew us away I'd be very happy but this wasn't the case. Such potential but fell short for us. Oh... Battery operated table Votive candles by remote access is crass in any caliber for a restaurant, which my party of three visibly witness one waitress operate by remote access to "ignite" flames. Further adding to the crass, the wait staff attire presents white sneakers and khaki pants... ICK! Old Mill Inn's Happy Hour consists of oysters $1.00 each 3pm to 5pm can ONLY be consumed at the dark and dingy old school bar, ergo NO alcohol is included for their version of Happy Hour. N.B. Time is of essence for Old Mill Inn's staff, who are real sticklers, adhere to Happy Hour as they do NOT serve oysters outside the time stated. Tapas as appetizers which the full dinner meal is served at 5pm which our party of three were growing weary from hunger with a full day of physical activities of strawberry, raspberry and blueberry picking. We could not wait one hour for the full dinner to be readily served. Thus, my fish and chips at $9.00 was microscopic, unfulfilling without solid substance yet quickly inhaled within mere minutes only for hunger pangs to immediately strike within two hours. Extremely inadequate food. Over priced. Further abject dismay reveals the overprice wine list for local wine from North Fork, Long Island, NY region is priced at $15.00 and $11.00 by the glass while the lowest cost is $7.00 from Australia! Service is attentive in the dinning room despite my party's multiple requests for Tabasco sauce. The Tamales were even microscopic size. I was hoping for sea bass or even a braised Red Snapper as a entree. Old Mill Inn also do NOT serve the full dinner menu before 5pm. Perhaps a lazy staff? Under staff? Religious garb for time restraints? Or pure superstitions preconception? Nevertheless a beautiful view of Mattituck Inlet resonates from their deck for outdoor seating. A great view do NOT serve me justice as Old Mill Inn fails for quality of inadequate food, bad customer service, bad Happy Hour composition, extremely rigged time constraints, and bankrupt overpriced. Old Mill Inn functions double as a seafood restaurant and local inn. Facility is by the bar and is relatively clean with a homelike atmosphere with curtain and blind for their fake window. Eek!! Not worthy for a return as I'll seek another inlet for better seafood without the ridiculous time restraints or how one encompasses what Happy Hour comprises of. I desperately want to love this place but every time I go I have an experience that turns me off. First off I will say the food is great and nothing beats the atmosphere. The service on the other hand ... A few weeks ago my friend and I got there about 9:00 and was told by the hostess she didn't have a table available without a reservation even though half the restaurant was empty. It wasn't too late since we ate at the bar and watched people after us be seated. This past weekend I went with a couple friends and we had a reservation but there was no hostess. We stood there waiting for 10 minutes with no one acknowledging us. Actually one of the co-owners saw us but did nothing. Once we were sat and ordered it literally took an hour for our food to show up. I'll give this place another shot but at some point the bad will likely outweigh the good I'm afraid. read more

This isn't a fancy restaurant. It's not trying to be. Its an old haunted bar with a dining room attached with water views. The food is OK on a good day, I would steer clear of the raw stuff and seafood. You will have a wonderful time with any of the burgers or apps, and the chocolate cake is solid. Your drink will be strong and your beer will be cold. I think the bad reviews on here are coming from a clientele that expects this to be a chic restaurant. What a horror! We were a table of dour and when our meals came out we were shocked. First we asked for three of our meals to be cooked medium rare more to the rare side, They all came out well done. There was no problem for the waiter to take the meals back to get it corrected. When they came back, about 25 minutes later, the forth person had finished her meal, and they still were not cooked correctly, but mist of all it was obvious that they had tried to cut the baby lamb chops in half. They did not even look like a lamb chop. When I pay $32.00 for 4 lamb chops they should at least be cut properly. The steak was $35.00 and it was less than 1/4 of an inch thick. When the waiter came back to see how it was I showed him the lamb chop and he said nothing and walked away. WAY OVERPRICED and they don't know what they are doing. read more

I ordered a grilled chicken which was pretty well seasoned, what was funny was that they don't give you a steak knife unless you ask for it, so they expect you to cut through the meat with the butter knife? The salad was okay, plus side was that they make their own dressings there. The meal came with a mushroom masala that I would not recommend. I couldn't agree more about avoiding the outdoor seating area at night. I made reservations about a month out, arrived with my husband right on time, and although I noticed several empty tables, we were told that we could sit outside or wait "a while" for a table. I was eaten alive out there; the tables are on a dock going out into the water, perfect habitat for flies and mosquitoes. Someone who I believe to be the owner was nice enough to walk around handing out canisters of Off to everyone. If they know it's a mosquito convention out there, why do they have tables there? Overall, the staff was flaky. We waited 20 minutes just to get served our water, and then our waitress was an absolute lunatic. She told us her life story every time she came over, and kept forgetting things; she confirmed our dinner orders twice. The "owner" was the only normal one of the bunch, and interestingly, she seemed to take over our table once dinner was served. Maybe she realized that our waitress was starting to bug us. All told, we were there nearly three hours, and we did not have dessert. Everything took FOREVER, giving the bugs enough time to have their way with me. The table next to us had the fish and chips. Looked great. Hand cut potato wedges and golden fried cod. That's what I'm getting next time. Anyway I had the fried oysters as an app and the grilled fish tacos. Both were perfect. Fresh shucked oysters with a nice fried coating, served with a spicy aioli and apple- fennel salad. The fish tacos were fresh, topped with avocados, Pico De Gallo and fresh made slaw. My wife had the quinoa burger over a kale salad with a house made mustard vinaigrette. Excellent! . We've been here a few times but wanted to take our friends who live in Nassau County. We had planned on getting together for a while and unfortunately it was a very rainy day when we were finally able to get together. We were able to get a table right away since the weather was terrible and not many people around at all. The service and the food was as always exceptional and our waitress was the best. It's such a shame that the food at this place is so terrible. The location is lovely with a view of the inlet but the horrific smell coming from the bar ruins the atmosphere. For the prices you'd think the food would be delicious, but you'd be wrong. They brought the bread served in a cheesy basket with a paper napkin. We started with the crab cake which wasn't bad, the calamari which clearly came frozen out of a bag and was served like something you'd find at a diner, and the tomato and mozzarella which had tasty tomatoes but sub par cheese. For entrees we had the very soggy fish and chips with fries borrowed from the McDonalds school of fry, lobster rolls which were ice cold out of the refrigerator and flavorless (albeit plentiful) and the salmon which wasn't bad. We passed on dessert when we realized the incorrectly advertised music was starting at 9pm as opposed to 8 so we high tailed it out of there. All in all, not the best experience. Yet another poorly run restaurant with disappointing food is added to the North Fork list. read more

It was chewy and the breading was greasy. Terrible. I couldn't finish it. Ordered the Fish Tacos and the same thing. Overcooked and no flavor. All the fish was not fresh. There's no excuse for not having fresh local seafood in the North Fork. Save your money if you are looking for a great meal. It can be found elsewhere. The best part of working out east this summer was coming into the Old Mill Inn after a long vineyard shift and being able to relax, enjoy a frozen margarita or mojito and food with my coworkers in the beautiful restaurant, at the bar or on the patio. Every staff member was always very attentive and friendly and always obliged when any of us needed more bread ;p I don't think any of us will forget the night the former manager Jamie sang "Secret Agent Man" with the band to us and danced with me after.....absolutely hysterical :D Love the oysters, calamari, the old mill burger, the seafood stew, the maple dipping sauce that comes with the sweet potato fries are killer and the HOMEMADE BUTTER for the bread is heavenly....seriously, butter never tasted so good. read more
