(Every time I spoke to the people there, their English was limited, but they do know how to take an order.) Note - The English copy more prominent than "Old Luo Yang" on the street front signage are "Collection of Old Luo Yang Liang Pi" and "Lao Tong Guan Chinese Hamburger." Their modern, yet small and narrow with limited seating, fresh Chinese Hamburger and Noodle spot here opened in 2023. (This visit, the woman taking my order seemed to indicate their mall stall will close end of August, but it may be a miscommunication.") My favorite item so far is the winner Cumin Lamb Bun for $7.50, with flaky filo dough style buns, juicy lamb, spicy to whatever level you request, onions, etc. My first time there I ordered the regular Chinese Hamburger for $6 and regular Cold Noodles. The Chinese Hamburger was quite good, but felt that Lamb Bun was one of the juiciest I've had to date and definitely remains my reco. As far as the Cold Noodles, whatever the non-vegetable component that came with the noodles had an unusual texture that was not to my liking,,, but you may feel differently. Next time, I plan on trying the Black Pepper Beef as either a noodle dish or burger. From what I could tell, it may be equally as enticing as Old Luo Yang's Cumin Lamb. The menu mostly has cold stir fried noodles which I'm sure are good. We were in the mood for some soup as it was cold out. I got the beef noodle soup which had hand pulled noodles and verrryyy soft glass noodles. The pork wontons were really yummy and plump. The premium meat burger reminded me of a Chinese chicken pot pie. Usually the lamb or beef meat burgers are too cumin-y for me but this one was very good!! There is limited bar seating. The space is similar to a narrow hallway. On the right is a counter for eating most ideal for single diners, especially during busy dinner times (otherwise you can find seating for 2-3 next to each other). My friends and I ordered 2 burgers and a noodle dish. Somehow the noodle dish took 15 min+ to come out. Although we thought we ordered "cold noodles", turns out it was stir fried "cold" noodles, so there was a mix up there (my Chinese is not good, so don't look at to me for an explanation). The noodles were alright, good spice but not much aside from noodles and bean sprouts in the dish. The burgers were great though. The "bun" is crispy layers of pastry. Rou Jia Mou - chinese-style hamburger, flakey bun similar to a shao bing texture. I have had the cumin lamb version, which is really good! Hu La Tang - black pepper soup, very solid. Pairs perfect with some additional black vinegar. My friend from Henan said it was really solid also! Liang Pi - I have tried the #1 (regular liang pi) and #2 (old luo yang processed noodles), both of which have the most insane peanut sesame type notes. The main distinction is the noodle texture of which #1 (regular liang pi) is more springy, smooth, jelly-like texture whereas #2 (old luo yang processed noodles) is more of a QQ, firm, chewy, bouncy texture. Wow! Amazing Chinese eats in Flushing! The storefront is easily missed. It's mainly a takeout place, but can seat a couple of individuals if you want to dine in. They open early at 10:30 AM, which is a plus. Most of the menu items are spicy, but I tried a couple of non-spicy Chinese burger and cold noodles. It's really delicious. Credit card is $10 minimum. I tried these guys first at the Flushing BID Food tour and they left an impression that made me want to return. At that event I tried the Regular Rougamo (Chinese Burger) and their regular cold noodles (Liangpi). I thought the noodles had a great texture and good flavor. The burger was truly tender and flaky - there was a good amount of meat stuffed inside. When it came to the space itself I thought it had a nice modern look of varied grey tiles throughout - very modern. Next time i stopped in for a quick burger, the cumin lamb this time and found it overly greasy, sparsely filled. Damn, I thought I should have stuck with the regular burger. They might make the best liangpi in flushing! It's the perfect spice level, it's chewy, it's sesame sauce-y, and it's cheap. The only thing I wish is they gave an option of a larger portion for $2 more or something. It's interesting to see most of the comments mention they have tried a lot of Roujiamo, happy to share the same passion here! As someone from in Henan Province (Luo Yang is one of the most well-known cities of Henan), I grew up with eating a lot of Rou Jia Mo 肉夹馍，Bai Ji Mo 白吉馍 (the softer flour bun, not offered here)，Liang Pi 凉皮，Gan Mian Pi 擀面皮 (they call it "Old Luo Yang processed noodles" here), and Mi Pi 米皮 (not offered here). Different regions may have different variations so it's hard and pointless to define "authentic", but the flavors here are the same as what I am used to and I like the food here a lot. In my opinion, (1) the Roujiamo here is the best I have had outside China, but make sure to order the classic version. I thought the lean one sounds healthier with no fatty meat, but the fatty meat is what makes it juicy and tasty. The fatty/lean ratio is perfect, you won't feel like eating fatty meat. I also like the crispy layers of the bun. My takeout tastes just as good after heating up in air fryer. (2) The Gan Mian Pi is better than Liang Pi here. It's also less common to find Gan Mian Pi in New York. I came recently wanting the Gan Mian Pi but it's sold out, ended up ordering the Liang Pi. Don't expect to taste the difference among different colors of Liang Pi lol, they all taste the same. My experience was also limited as I was coughing and couldn't add spicy oil (but usually spicy oil from Henan or Shaanxi are more about the fragrance rather than spiciness). As one of the original food stalls within New World Mall Food Court, Old Luo Yang is among the least known and arguably among the most underrated as well. They pull no punches with authenticity, which will be consistent with what might be found in the motherland. However, even pulling off a true to form execution doesn't necessarily make it good (#1) but certainly not all is lost. Two of Henan's most famous foods, shaobing (燒餅) and hui mian (燴麵) are not the staples here. Instead their bread and butter has been mainly the liangpi (涼皮) and their stuffed sandwiches (肉夾饃). The former is actually under several variations, with a traditional offering of cold noodles with gluten and hot oil and other ones such as purple sweet potato, carrot, spinach, and black rice. They're fun to order and photograph, but the actual noodles themselves are solid but not stellar. I am pretty convinced the sandwiches are really a byproduct of popularity in Flushing and there is more central Chinese fare than a Luo Yang regional take. They work in a pinch but will likely pale just a bit in comparison to what folks have become accustomed to (#2). I would avoid their mala soups at all costs, but that's just me. As is the case with almost all the stalls, I would avoid this zoo on the weekends, save for non-prime time hours (after 4pm and after 8pm). There is still an audience for this place and I think it's worth a try for everyone coming the food court.
