    Beef noodle soup
    Kathleen S.

This noodle stand in a hole-in-the-wall food court is an absolute gem. Discovering a place that offers the authentic cuisine of the Miao highlights the true diversity of Queens. While Gui Zhou Miao Jia's food is bona fide delicious, its menu offers limited scope of the most representative dishes. For those unfamiliar, the Miao people are one of the 55 official minority groups in China and reside in the southern region, mainly in Guizhou, but also scattered across Yunnan, Sichuan, Guangxi, Hunan, Hubei, and Hainan provinces. A diverse linguistic and cultural group, the Miao are related to the Hmong, a subgroup that migrated from southern China and now primarily lives in Southeast Asia. The Miao cuisine in Guizhou is distinguished by strong sour and spicy flavors. Pickling and fermentation are common, as is the addition of spices such as hot pepper, sesame, and coriander. Sour soup is a popular base for fish, meat, and vegetables. Although rice dominates in Guizhou, at Gui Zhou Miao Jia the focus is noodles. But oh, boy! The noodles here are cooked to perfection. Also, mutton is featured more prominently on the menu, though in Guizhou fish, especially fish in sour broth, is prevalent. My bowl of beef noodle soup ($7.50) was excellent. Made quickly and fresh to order, the large bowl came hot and heaping with a generous amount of rice noodles, chunks of salty flavorful beef, and of course pickled vegetables. The intense, deep flavors anchored in a rich broth added dimension. Although beef noodle soup is ubiquitous, this one was truly unforgettable.

Came here for lunch on a Friday, this is a small place in a tiny food court, limited seating share with other vendors. Order the mutton with skin on rice noodle, not impressed with the flavor and portion. $8.5 for a small bowl that I can finish in 3 mins. This is a tiny portion Compare to other places I've been. Not to mention there was probably only 5 pieces meat inside. Was still hungry after the bowl. Won't be back for sure. And not sure how authentic it is since they are all from Fujian?

Kevin and Jessica pretty much hit the nail on the head. As good as it gets for Guizhou noodle soups in the neighborhood.

The noodles were incredibly bouncy and had an amazing mouth feel. The broth was rich and bursting with flavor. I'm allergic to shrimp and got the vegetable broth with beef and was worried about that flavor but it was so amazing I plan to become a regular. My husband enjoyed the traditional shrimp wonton soup and he said it was delicious!! Small inside dining area but on a weekday we had no wait. There was also "outdoor" dining area Can't wait to return (salivating writing This review )

Maxi's Noodle is a Hong Kong-style noodle shop that focuses on wonton noodles, beef brisket dishes,…read morefish balls, and comforting soup-based meals. We walked into a casual, local space with a straightforward setup that works well for a simple meal rather than a long dining experience. The seating is limited, and the use of paperware even for dine-in orders gives the restaurant a practical, neighborhood feel, the kind of place where the focus stays on the food rather than the atmosphere. The biggest highlight is the wonton noodle soup. The shrimp wontons are larger than the typical Hong Kong-style wontons and are packed with shrimp flavor, giving the dish a more filling feel. The noodles have a good texture with a slight chew, and the broth provides a light but comforting base that ties everything together without overwhelming the other components. The beef options are also worth trying, especially the braised beef and brisket, which add a richer, more savory flavor to the noodles. Beyond noodles, the menu has a variety of classic Hong Kong-style sides and add-ons. The curry fish balls and fried fish skin are popular choices that add different textures to the meal, while the Hong Kong milk tea works well as a drink pairing, with a smooth, slightly bitter profile that cuts through the richness of the food. There are also vegetarian options available, giving the menu more flexibility for different preferences. Service is generally quick and efficient, and the portions are filling for the price. The restaurant can feel busy during peak hours due to the limited seating, but the turnover is fast enough that the wait does not feel excessive. The presentation is simple and functional, and the overall experience feels rooted in the kind of quick, satisfying meal that Hong Kong-style noodle shops are known for. Maxi's Noodle is a solid place for Hong Kong-style comfort food, especially if you are craving wonton noodles. The large shrimp wontons, chewy noodles, and affordable portions make it a worthwhile stop, offering a meal that feels both familiar and satisfying without any unnecessary fuss. It may not be the most polished dining experience, but it delivers exactly what it promises: a simple, comforting bowl of noodles done right.

You order on iPad at the table, and the staff is available if you have any questions. When you confirm your order on the iPad, they will confirm with you. Service is friendly and helpful. The food came out quick! Their kitchen is in the basement and they have the dumb waiter sending up food, so very efficient use of space. The Dumplings in Chili Oil (can adjust spice level and cilantro) has added texture with crushed peanuts. We got the regular spicy, but could have gotten extra spicy. They were a decent appetizer but I'd go for something else. The Abalone and Chicken Rice Noodles had decent chicken flavor. There were a couple pieces of dark meat, which I enjoyed. Not sure if there was abalone in here, but if there was, it was nondescript. The rice noodles were well cooked. The Plum Juice had a lovely smokey flavor, along with a lemony flavor form the couple of lemon slices inside. It was not too sweet, though I personally could go for less sugar. Overall, a decent spot for rice noodles. They do have multiple locations, so go to the one near you! No need to go out of your way.

I've brought friends here because I've always enjoyed their dishes. There also aren't many noodle restaurants left in the neighborhood, so it's nice to have a spot like this. It's a great place to visit on a cold day. The restaurant itself is a decent size. It can get busy in the evenings, but for the most part, you can still find a table. The portions are quite generous, and the service is good. There's minimal interaction with the staff since you place your order through a tablet provided at the table. Be mindful if you have peanut allergies definitely let them know so they don't sprinkle peanut on certain dishes. Overall, this is a great place to get a warm noodle soups during Winter season.

The walnut shrimp had jumbo shrimp and was perfectly sweet and crunchy. The fish fillet in chili oil had the perfect amount of spicy, which was so warming for the cold weather.
