    hummus

I stopped by Olba (@olba.me on Instagram) in Brookline and was impressed by how flavorful everything was. The hummus was my favorite, easily a 9/10, creamy, rich, and perfectly seasoned (get it with the shwarma). The muhammara pita cup had great flavor (id recommend getting their party pita cups if you cater with them!) and the Fajita Lebanese sandwich was juicy and packed with garlic flavor. The spicy potatoes were a bit oily but still totally addictive, a solid 7/10. The kibbeh was golden and crisp on the outside with a savory filling that hit the spot. It's definitely more of a takeout or catering spot than a sit-down restaurant, but everything tasted fresh and homemade, the kind of food that makes you want to go back for more. 1383 Beacon St, Brookline, MA 02446

Chicken Shawarma & Mixed Grilled Platter

Typically I order them during my lunch but tonight I actually went inside. The restaurant is on the smaller side but they do have quite a few chairs. The brother taking orders is kind and attentive won't forget about your order! I ordered the mixed grilled platter for myself and one chicken shawarma for my sister and they did not disappoint! The platter comes loaded with juicy chicken, tender beef, kofta, warm pita, crispy fries, onion, pickles, fresh herbs, toum and hummus. Everything was well-seasoned and cooked perfectly nothing dry or bland! Portions were generous (definitely shareable), packaging was neat, and the food stayed hot. This is the kind of meal you order when you're starving and want real, comforting Lebanese food.

Small place inside, only a few chairs to sit, it's mostly for takeout. They serve the food in to go containers even if you eat there. Food is pretty good. Limited vegetarian options.

First time trying Olba- cute little spot, very homely and clean with plenty of seating. You order at the register - no servers. I got the beef shawarma plate; the meat was a bit dry but good flavor and the fries, pickled veg and sauce were really good. I also had the mint lemonade which was delicious. I will be back to try more!

Olba is a great new restaurant in Brookline ,a great spot for fresh and flavorful Mediterranean food, served quickly, and with attentive service. The ambiance is warm and inviting, making it perfect for a casual yet quality dining experience.

Friendly and helpful staff. I rate 4.5, but will give 5 as no intermediate option. Improvements would mainly be timing of different courses delivered at table (was fast, but more time between mezzo and mains would be better). I believe that this small business has even greater potential.

However being in…read morethe suburbs of Boston, it gave me the opportunity to try other cuisines, and I was excited to see this authentic Turkish restaurant not far from my hotel. Ironically, I found this place when I was looking up ice cream. They serve authentic Turkish ice cream, and it's been something I've been wanting to try. In addition to the ice cream, I ordered Manti (Turkish dumplings) and Uludag soda (which they say is a Turkish ginger ale). I loooooooooved the Manti. While the dumplings were filled with meat, the dish overall felt light since each dumpling is like the size of a quarter. The dumplings had a nice chew, and the sauces made the dish rich yet creamy. The Uludag soda was definitely much lighter than a ginger ale. Tasted like a light citrusy drink, and it's less sweet than American sodas. The ice cream had a nice pull and chew, although it didn't look as stretchy as Turkish ice creams I've seen. Nice amount of pistachio flavor throughout. I came on a weekday lunch, so there was ample seating inside. Ordering is done via a QR code on your table or on a tablet stand in the middle of the restaurant. Service was quick and friendly, making it a great experience overall.

The dips were all good. The whipped feta was creamy, the eggplant had that nice smoky depth and the taramosalata was super interesting, very briny in the best "yes, this is definitely roe" kind of way. Only note is that the Horiatiko Psomi (house bread) could've been warm/toasted for my preference especially given the price of the dips, I expected the bread to be a little more elevated too Then we got the Lahanodolmades (cabbage stuffed with beef and pork, rice, mint, avgolemono). Well seasoned, the cabbage was tender without falling apart and that lemony avgolemono sauce tied everything together- it was bright and savory. For mains, we shared the Moschari me Damaskina (red wine-braised beef cheeks with prunes, trahanas) and Arni stin Souvla (slow-roasted lamb leg). The beef cheek was ridiculously tender- like barely touch it and it falls apart. Rich, slightly sweet from the prunes, with that warm spice note of the cinnamon that balanced the tomato acidity really nicely. The lamb was cooked well and definitely tasty but nothing super extravagant compared to other Greek lamb dishes I've had. Still really yummy especially with the onions and a squeeze of lemon cutting through the lamb. Portion-wise, the pricing felt a little high for what you get but the ambience is beautiful, definitely a great date night spot. Low lighting, cozy, feels elevated without being stuffy

Reservations were already fully booked for the next month out, so we decided to take our chance and see if we could get bar seating around opening time. It was already pretty packed 10 minutes after opening, and the host told us that bar seating would open up in about an hour, but we would have to wait at the restaurant. Meanwhile, the wait for a table would be almost 2 hours, but we would be notified when our table is ready so we put ourselves down on the table waitlist and went elsewhere in the mean time. We came back after 2 hours, and the table was ready exactly then! I ordered some sort of Mango Mocktail and then my friend and I shared the Black Sea Cornbread and Roasted Sunchokes. Food is very unique with creative twists on all their dishes. The cornbread was delicious - it basically melted in my mouth and I liked how it actually had a kick to it. Very tasty, but just a tad bit salty. I have never had Sunchokes before but they were delicious! Very colorful presentation. A lot of the sauce was at the bottom so it could have been mixed more evenly. Mango mocktail was sweet and refreshing! Overall, Sarma has great, flavorful food and plenty of vegetarian options. Very difficult to get reservations so either plan well in advance or arrive right at opening time

The menu refers to these as "Greek cheese bread" but somehow that doesn't do it justice - these were immensely pillowy and cheesy, with an amazing crust, with homemade honey butter on the side. I could have had just these for dinner and been satisfied. They really nailed the bread. My other favorites: 1. Hipiti: spicy whipped feta with crispy potatoes on the side. I don't do well with spice but I absolutely loved this. 2. Marouli: winter lettuce with the most amazing vinaigrette dressing. My only knock to this is, presentation-wise, they serve it with half of the plate empty and the other half with salad. I don't understand why restaurants do this because - one, it only highlights the smaller portion and two, we're just going to mix the salad all around in the bowl anyway. 3. Boudeto: daily catch in a beautiful tomato broth. For a seafood dish at a restaurant in Back Bay, this was priced at a fairly reasonable $28. The only dish that fell a little flat for me was the tzatziki - needed a bit more seasoning. As it was, I was eating mostly just plain yogurt. The table-side preparation was cool, though. The space is its own visual dinner, there's simply a lot to look at (including a drawing of Poseidon riding a surf board). We got the big table in the back, which was a beautiful glass structure with a whole terrarium underneath. We couldn't stop marveling at it throughout the meal. Our waiter was wonderful - very helpful recommendations, came by to check on us often even though we were pretty far in the back, super patient with our questions. Hard to get reservations but worth it! Don't bother driving / trying to find parking unless you're willing to eat a hefty garage fee, it's Back Bay.
