We immediately got strange vibes walking into this place and were tempted to go somewhere else but there aren't too many options in this neighborhood. We decided to try this place out anyways, and I have mixed feelings. The food here is very good and presented well, especially when dining in. I ordered the Moroccan beef kebab plate and it was very tasty and portions were large, which made the price worth it in my opinion. The cleanliness and overall state of this restaurant is a bit concerning though, and I honestly wouldn't recommend to others. There were practically no clean tables for us to sit at, half-finished plates of food scattered around the entire place, improper food handling (not swapping gloves after touching various surfaces), and even witnessed one of the employees drinking a leftover smoothie drink directly from the blender (!!!!!). I will give it a pure 4-star rating for the hole-in-the-wall Pakistani food and for the sweet family that owns it. The combinations of pakistani/mexican food aren't as good in flavor. This is my go-to place to grab a samosa on rainy days to dip it into that Maggi hot sauce (ifykyk). I also recommend the Chicken Botti (well cooked on the tandoor and available at any time of day) and naan +/- biryani. The prices are reasonable and the staff/family is so sweet and friendly. As a Pakistani myself, I definitely questioned the food when I saw the Nihari came with a side RICE and I had to order a Naan separately. Very odd. Eat your Nihari with Naan..not rice! Please owners..if you're reading this.. beef Nihari with side naan not rice. Other than that, the food was great. Probably the best desi food available in the Boston area. A small restaurant! Don't be fooled by how it is when you walk in. First impressions are less than ideal, until your food arrives. Their goat biryani came highly recommended, and it was excellent. Their seekh kababs and chapli kababs were above average (we settled for chicken, because they were out of beef). Their halwa was great, but they were out of poori's. They need to fix the seating area inside and also the overall look of the restaurant a bit, because their food and service are both outstanding. Sweet and courteous owners. Fast service. I am so happy to have found this place. My parents and I stopped in on our way home from an out of town excursion. We heard about Nachlo and were intrigued. From the moment we walked in until the moment we finished our food, we were pleased. The aroma in the restaurant was perfect and I knew the food was going to be good. There is a special smell when Desi food is made right. We spoke with the owner who was happily making dishes along side a couple of other men who were working. One of those other men recognized us from another restaurant that we occasionally pick up kebabs from. That place also makes delicious food. We knew that if he worked there previously, this food was going to be delicious. We ordered a variety of dishes from chicken biriyani to seekh kebab, chapli kebab, chicken tikka, lamb barbacoa quesadilla, naan, and paratha. All of it was excellent. Spicy and delicious! The heat level was quite high. We were wondering how our firangi friends could handle this level of spice. It was so good. The prices are reasonable. The staff is friendly. The food is a treat for your tastebuds. Everything was good, but the lamb barbacoa quesadilla was my favorite. The way that the meat is spiced is so good. I want more of this. I will happily go back to Nachlo. My parents will as well. We don't normally eat Indian/Pakistani/Bangladeshi food from a restaurant because we cook it at home. Nachlo is a nice option to have. We came here expecting great things me and my husband love both Pakistani and Mexican cuisine but right when we walked in we got bad vibes the service was not good they kept staring at us when we asked a question , we got the nachos and burrito and it was horrible no flavor I felt like I had covid because no taste in either of those items. Fantastic spot hidden away with a very unique menu. I've gotten delivery a few times and went in for a sit down meal. It's a very hole in the wall vibe and no frills at all. Amazing service, just went for class and I felt so welcomed once I entered staff looking and greeting me with a smile. When I opened to eat, every piece of chicken was completely charred, and I could barely extract a dry piece of highly salty meat from a few, if that. The rice was both undercooked and dry. I live right around the corner and Nachlo makes the outrageous Boston rent that I'm paying worth it. I ordered three kebabs, which are $1.99 each expecting them to be like your typical string of meat on a skewer. Instead, I got three delicious rolls of chicken (think jumbo hot dog size) and they even threw in a side of rice for free! I love Indian and Mexican food, and regularly make myself curry burritos, so Mexican-Pakistani food is right in my comfort zone. We had a veggie quesadilla and a grilled chicken burrito, both delicious. I love all the fresh and pickled vegetables that are part of their regular toppings. Nachlo is a tiny, unassuming, hole-in-the-wall, but is worth checking out at least once. I live in the Mission Hill area, and have passed by this place a few times, and been intrigued by the novel concept of Mexican-Pakistani fusion cuisine. Finally, my friends and I decided to grab some takeout. Having had no idea how these two seemingly incompatible cuisines could be blended, I have to say, I was left even more confused after looking at the menu. It seems to be primarily traditional Pakistani dishes, with a section of Mexican options like quesadillas and tacos. There were many dessert options that had Indian and Mexican selections, along with tiramisu and baklava (?!?). The one item on the menu that most intrigued us was the Nachos. There was a variety of options to customize your nachos and we ended up picking the chana masala (chickpeas), pico de Gallo, cucumbers, onions, shredded cheese, and cheddar cheese. How could a traditional indian dish (chana masala) be combined with cheese sauce and tortilla chips?? When we picked up our order and got ready to eat, we had no idea what we were in for. The nachos were AMAZING. The chana masala alone was perfectly spiced (but mild), thick, and flavorful. The cheddar cheese sauce was creamy and queso-esque. And somehow, the combo of those two, with the salty and slightly soggy tortilla chips was perfect. The additional toppings didn't contribute too much flavor-wise, but added a crunch and balanced out the other heavy ingredients. Overall, the nachos look like nachos, but taste like chaat, a popular Indian appetizer. These nachos should be their signature dish, and they're a missed opportunity to be the restaurant's namesake. As for the entrees we all got, most of them were hits. The chicken biryani, chicken keema, and chicken jalfrezi were all great according to my friends. The garlic naan was interesting-definitely not the typical naan you see at other Indian restaurants, and it may have been more of the Pakistani-style naan, but it was very good regardless and freshly made to order. I ordered the butter chicken (basic, I know), and it was also unlike the normal dish at Indian restaurants. This butter chicken was very heavy on the turmeric, and that was the prevailing flavor profile. After my initial shock, I grew to like it. The chicken itself was perfectly cooked and tender, which is hard to find. There was an abundance of chicken and the ratio of chicken to gravy was perfect. The price ended up being around $60 for 4 people (with a 20% discount for first-timers if you order directly from their website), which was very affordable. However, the portion sizes of the entrees was on the small side compared to other Indian restaurants. I would definitely recommend trying out the delicious nachos, and expanding your palate at Nachlo. read more
