It felt family owned. I had the chicken tandoori and the naan. The food was definitely above average. The tandoori was seasoned adequately and was tender and juicy on the inside. My complaint with the tandoori chicken was that you didn't taste the ginger garlic paste-based masala the chicken is usually marinated in. The flavor was more dry spices heavy and felt like it was marinated in an off-the-shelf dry spice blend. The meat was grilled nicely though. I wish it had the wet spice blend flavors. The naan was good too. They have more traditional Pakistani dishes on the menu like nihari, haleem, magaz, etc. that I would like to try. I will return.

Walking in, I could tell it was an authentic family owned restaurant, and I loved that feeling. The owner was our server. I can't have dairy, so it was key that my coworker was with me and could speak with the owner in a native language. He was very accommodating and made chickpeas and rice and plane rice for me without dairy. It was so good. The stewed veggies entree and the chicken without dairy were both so great. I also tried my coworkers chicken kebabs, which I had never seen like this, but they were really good. All the food was well seasoned and the stews had great flavor and spice. I know Pakistani food is cook with lots of oil, but it was worth it for this meal. The side salad was also a great size. They only had ranch dressing, so I took the salad home where I had other dressing options. It's also great that it's halal meat. Overall , I really enjoyed my visit. I will say I am a bit nervous to go back without my friend because I'm not sure if I'd be able to guarantee there would be no dairy in my dishes, but I'd for sure go back with her.

So nice of them! And I like that they clarified things with me to make sure they got my order right when I placed it on the phone, such as asking for mild spiciness. The stir fry dry chicken was really good too even though it was oily but so tasty! The laghman was enjoyed by the hubs. Will order again.

We got the samosa, bean jelly, Laghman, chicken fried noodles, and chicken with red peppers. The best I think was the samosa (looks kind of like a bun). It had a flakey crust and interior with spiced beef. Probably my favorite! The bean jelly was ok. The jelly rectangles were a little firmer than I expected and bit spicy but not bad. The laghman noodles were a little overcooked. The restaurant staff were nice to accommodate us and make the Laghman substituted with chicken instead of the usual beef (for our friend with dietary restrictions). The chicken I think was unseasoned because of this because it normally isn't in the laghman. (I wonder if their original beef default would've been better) The spicy fried chicken bits in red peppers was pretty good (you can adjust the spice level).

I think there is a lot left to be desired here. I had a party of 7 with a reservation, but they…read morecould not seat us until 15 minutes after our reservation time. This is due partly to another party ahead of us not leaving promptly, but I think the restaurant could have been ready ahead of us as well. I will admit that I enjoyed the ambiance - it had nice low lighting with contemporary decor which made a nice dinner spot. The service in terms of both the waiters and kitchen did not feel timely either. It took a while for drinks to arrive and there were barely any water refills in general. We ordered four different dishes on our side of the table and they were somewhat bland. The vegetable momos definitely need some kind of sauce since they were lacking in flavor. We also got a curry chicken thigh, beef noodles, and butter tofu. I think only the beef noodles had a good enough flavor profile and kick to them. I was also surprised that the portion sizes weren't close to what you would expect for the price. I think with so many good south Asian spots in the area, it's hard to recommend Martsa. I might consider coming back if I learn that there is a particular dish that I am missing out on.

The garlic naan was alright.

After being in Boston for 5 years, this was hands down the worst dining experience I've ever had…read more The service was awful. My family and I waited over 50 minutes for our food. We watched over 20 online orders get sent out of the kitchen, and the waiters never came to our table to check on us. When complaining to the owner/manager, he expressed his apologies and mentioned that they were understaffed. This is no excuse for shitty service. If you are understaffed, why are you still taking so many online orders? Focus on your dine-in tables for the night! When the food did come, it was SO SO average -- something I didn't need to come all the way to Union Square for. Definitely not worth the wait.
