    Japan Fried Chicken Plate
    Lauretta N.

I've seen this food truck parked on Torrance Blvd. on my way to Redondo Beach so was very happy to see it at the Cherry Blossom Festival today. I tried the fried chicken plate and 6 pc takoyaki. Servers are very friendly. Chicken plate has a very generous serving of chicken with salad and rice. I asked for the teriyaki sauce which was very tasty. The chicken was a little overcooked but batter was good, not too thick just right. Hubby loved the takoyaki.

    Totally recommended!

Good service! Food is delicious & I recommended Okamoto kitchen. I had chicken teriyaki & gyu don combo. Also I had a drink but I forgot the name of it. It was yummy

I heard about this food truck originally since they go to FGC (fighting game community) events. One of the founders is a fighting game player himself. I had the great opportunity to try them out because they came all the way out to Arizona even though they are originally based out in southern CA. I saw their menu online and was looking forward to trying out a specific menu item but was a bit disappointed that they came to the AZ event with only 3 food items. I ordered a Katsu curry sandwich which cost me $14.96. It's definitely a bit pricey for just a sandwich but everything about it tasted absolutely amazing. The buns and the Katsu chicken were crisp and full of flavor. I'm verily impressed by just their whole system. They've got anime figurines for sale and their whole truck is represented by these anime characters. They even kickstarted their own short anime series too. I got my food relatively fast even though it was super busy. The line was very long but it went by relatively fast because their system for making food is so efficient.

Had lunch in Thousand Oaks today.... The Okamoto Kitchen truck was parked at a park, and it seemed like they were staying busy. I ordered the Kastu Curry Sandwich, the Okonomi Fries and the Goku Style JFC (Japan Fried Chicken!) The Okonomi Fries has good flavors, yet they were unexciting. Not sure where the mark was missed on these. They look great and the toppings seemed to be good, but they just didnt deliver that satisfying bite after trying them. Next I tried the Goku style JFC. The fried chicken is good, fully battered nice and evenly and was very fresh. I enjoyed this on its own however.... That hot sauce is where it takes it to another level. It is so good! It is spicy, and flavorful and really completes the chicken. I really enjoyed the hot sauce. If I had any complaints about it, it would be that they didn't give enough for the amount of chicken served. Finally, I tried the Katsu Curry Sandwich. The chicken Katsu was breaded and seasoned well. It was a good sized piece of chicken and the curry sauce was very good, not spicy (hot) at all and it made for a well done sandwich. Overall a nice experience, great location for a lunch truck. The winner of this meal was the Goku JFC. I'd get this again any day.

I should've picked some less basic flavors for this chicken plate, but despite my mistake, this was a lot of food for the price, included an excellent salad, and I would come back here anytime. The chicken was cooked fresh and crispy, the rice was plain but well done, and whatever the salad dressing was, it was delicious. I also highly recommend the Thai tea, because Thai tea. Service was super friendly, and I got my food quite quickly as well.

Spicy Tuna Stack, Beef Okamoto Bowl, Classic Japan Fried Chicken, Japanese BBQ House Fries

I tried Okamoto Kitchen when their food truck stopped in Simi Valley (They were located on Tapo St). Service was fine, but food was mostly just okay. I wasn't in the mood for a burger (which makes up most of the items on their menu) and opted instead for an Okamoto bowl with Beef (Gyudon) protein and white rice, Japanese BBQ flavored House Fries, Classic (Lemon and Mayo) flavored Japan Fried Chicken, Spicy Tuna Stack, and their Sakura Latte drink (not pictured). Starting off, the Sakura Latte was not great. It's a really bright color and looks bubble gum/neon highlighter pink. I'm not sure what their Sakura Latte was supposed to taste like, but my sister and I took one sip each and couldn't drink the rest after. It had the consistency and taste of Pepto Bismol. This was the worst of the items we got though, the rest were better. I liked the fries because they were thin and crispy. The chicken was crispy as well but maybe too much to the point it was hard to bite and chew. The tuna stack was small and it tasted fine, I've just had better. Lastly, my sister and I agreed the best item we got was the Okamoto bowl with Beef (Gyudon). I thought it was supposed to come with veggies but ours didn't, which I would've liked. The beef was really good though! It tasted like the ones I get in restaurants or Japanese markets. If I were to come back, I'd get this again. I'm glad I tried this place though cause there's definitely a need for more Asian food in Simi Valley.

Every item I've ordered has been absolutely wonderful. I'm an Okamoto fan for life! I like to take motorcycle rides all over So Cal following the truck. I get to see lots of new destinations and eat great food too!

Chicken Katsu Curry Burger; Okonomi flavoured French fries

Love the Okamoto Food Truck decorated with garish colors with saucy, perky Japanese Animè girls in Euro Maid costumes. The "Japanese Comfort Food" painted on the colourful truck hits "the nail on the head". 1) Chicken Katsu Curry Burger: Moist, soft, slightly sweet Brioche style bun yet sturdy, egg wash golden brown shiny finish. Fried chicken breast, that is moist, meaty, good sized, is well coated in Japanese Panko bread crumbs for a crunchy, crispy finish.  Curry that has sweet, "hot" spices like fenugreek, chiles, black pepper, turmeric, etc., is thick, sweetish to stick onto the Panko chicken. Mayo for eggy, rich acidic oiliness. Shredded cabbage for refreshing watery, crispness. (I took the burger home & added my own purple onion, tomato slice, avocado for more vegetal accents.) 2) Fries à la Okonomi(yaki): Okonomi Yaki is a savory pancake often topped with Sōsu/Worchester Sauce, Ao Nori/green powdered seaweed, Katsuo Bushi/thin shaved dried bonito fish, Beni Shōga/red, salt pickled ginger, Mayonēzu/mayonnaise, sometimes Sakura Ēbi/small dried shrimp, green onion. So the above topping ingredients sans Sakura Èbi used for Okonomi Yaki are used to flavour the Euro French fries. Like all ancient cuisines, Japanese food has had "fusion cuisine" influences for thousands of years. 3) Kara Agè (kah rah ah geh) can be anything deep fried in oil. Chicken seems to be the default and is marinated in Shōyu/soy sauce, garlic, ginger then coated in a light herbed, corn starch to add a light crunch when just fried. 3a) Chicken Kara Agè is topped w/ Teri Yaki style sweet Shōyu sauce. Sprinkling of roasted white sesame seeds adds a toasty, oil fragrance. 3b)  Goku means extreme in Japanese. In this case, the ketchupy, spicy Miso/fermented soy bean paste and dusting of Sichuan chile powder adds an earthy, sweet piquancy.  However, I couldn't sense the peanuts. Goku may not be the "hottest spicy", but definitely not for chile wusses. Okamoto Kitchen serves hearty Japanese fare. It's not delicate, nuanced cooking Kappō style, but it's meant to be filling, stick to your ribs food. Kind of analogous to U.S. Soul food which is satisfying and staves off hunger for a long time.   4 stars.

Yanki Burger with Okonomi fries 3 hit combo with side of Soy Garlic Butter (but actually a wrong side of fries given)
    Lehi L.

I have been curious and wanting to try this food truck for a few months now, and finally did. The workers aren't that approachable. The first time I stopped for this truck, I waited for a while to be acknowledged by an employee who opened the food truck door but with no acknowledgement from them. And then finally got told by another customer I had to order online. I didn't know. On this second time around, I ordered the 3 hit combo meal of Yanki Burger with Okonomi fries with a side of Soy Garlic Butter but was actually given a wrong side of fries it seems. There was no flavor or seasoning at all. Had to double check my order and the box had "soy" written on it, but definitely no flavor. Bummer. Was looking forward to the garlic flavor. The burger was surprisingly a decent size. Good... definitely can taste the sesame seed oil through the marinade. I love sesame seed oil flavoring, but it tasted just like that and only that for me. My son enjoyed and ate all the okonomi fries except for the ginger. I am 50/50 on whether I would order here again or not. Kind of pricey. But I am curious about their other food items.

Delicious food truck with a good selection of options. Their burger was tasty with a fried egg and sauce. Fries had addictive seasoning and were amazing. The Japanese fried chicken was very tasty as well with multiple sauces and rice. Good sized portions in easy takeout containers. Friendly staff, reasonable prices, overall highly recommended. Check them out if you can find them!

When I found out that this truck was coming near me for the day, I immediately placed an order online after seeing the menu photos. I got three burgers, and now I'm regretting that I didn't try the rice burger too. From best to least favorite: Yanki Burger: Nicely cooked beef patty with a yummy sesame-garlic teriyaki sauce. I absolutely loved the fried egg on top; the yolk came oozing out and added even more flavor to the patty. Combine this with the onions, cabbage, and mayo, and you get the perfect burger. Nom Bomb: Teriyaki-glazed deep fried chicken with cabbage, tartar sauce, and jalapeno. This burger was good, but kind of plain. For the price, I'd rather buy a few McChicken sandwiches. I appreciate that there is a vegetarian version available (chicken replaced by tofu). Bird of Fire: Deep fried chicken with relish, mayo, onions, and cabbage. The chicken was the same as the the chicken in the Nom Bomb. It was mainly the sauce that made this sandwich different. The Goku sauce is a medium level of spicy. Nothing very exciting about this. I liked the Japanese bbq house fries, which were thin, crispy, and delicious. It was a super easy process to order and pick up the food. I received an email when my order was ready. It kind of sucks that the time slots for pick up are by the hour, so you don't really know when to expect your food between that whole hour. I'd prefer if it was changed to 30-minute time slots.

Yanki burger with deep fried rice buns, thank you to the owner for letting me customize my order!!!!

Okamoto is a food truck that travels throughout LA. They've been advertising on my Facebook feed for years now, given that they do visit Alhambra and San Gabriel during the week, which are in my neighborhood. I saw this month that they were making a pork belly sandwich with rice patties for buns. My wife loves rice burgers, so I sent an email to the owner requesting if they could make the Yanki Burger using rice patties instead a of a standard brioche bun. Graciously, he was able to fulfill my request. As he instructed, I went to the food truck at the Alhambra location in the evening. I asked for a few rice burgers, and they accommodated my request. My wife and I both loved the rice burgers. We actually cannot find Japanese style rice burgers anywhere in LA, so this satisfied our cravings and were amazing. The burger was cooked to about medium temperature, the egg was over easy, and the sauces they used were amazing. The rice was crispy around the edges but became soft around the center, and complimented everything really well. I wanted to thank the staff at Okamoto Kitchen for going out of their way to complete a custom order for us. We understand it can be difficult to meet the needs of all the customers, but we really truly loved our rice burgers. We will definitely come back again!

Is merchandise available directly from the truck?

You have to order from their website.

So early do you need to get to the food truck to get the burrito? We ordered at 1pm and they were already sold out after 2 hours...

It depends on the day. Please keep in mind that we have online preorders coming in from 6am the day of that those who order online get priority. Sorry about the trouble.

Is peanut oil used to fry in?

We only use 100% canola oil. No peanut oil is used for deep frying.

Hi! are there any vegan options available?

    Sorry. I don't think so.

Is there shellfish in any of the food?

    None whatsoever! :)

What are the ingredients in your chicken karaage?

Okamoto uses chicken thighs cut up into pieces, which is marinated with a soy sauce blend marinade, then dipped into potato starch powder and deep fried until golden. :)

The version with carne asada and scrambled eggs stands out: the savory meat adds richness, the eggs give a cozy, hearty feel, and the heat-level walks that perfect line between bold and manageable. The portion is generous but never sloppy: everything stays crisp where it should, saucy where it needs to be, and balanced so you don't get that soggy tortilla mush some chilaquiles fall into. On top of that, reviewers frequently praise the staff as "super friendly" and note that this spot is a go-to for Sunday breakfast -- a reliable place to get that hangover-curing, belly-warming Mexican comfort food.

Unfortunately Chilakiles like many places with great reviews are based on a lack of experiences and most reviews are based on emotionalism! I really wanted to like this place and share the great experience with the world but all I took away was a supersized disappointment with a side of wasted money. We ordered two orders of Chilaquiles with the red and green sauce, one with carne asada and the other with two eggs over medium. We were the only ones in line and that was a bit concerning but it was Friday at 10:30 am. The orders came out quickly and we retreated to our car for some intimate car dining. It felt like Xmas as we opened up our heavy container filled to the brim with anticipation! I started on the green zone and felt the kick of the spice and concluded that this spice was a bit over the top. Typically spicy isn't an issue as long as the flavor holds up and keeps me digging in. However, the spice was overwhelming and the sour taste of the tomatillo in the sauce kept sinking my experience deeper and deeper into the abyss! I decided to move onto the red sauce and it was better but just barely better. All I kept thinking was how disappointing these Chilaquiles were. I know that food like Art can be subjective but after a certain point the subjective opinion is just an opinion. Then you have to compare all chilaquiles to all the other chilaquiles that have graced your pallet. Los Chilakiles is full of disappointment and hype!

This texture fades extremely quickly as the minutes tick by. True for any restaurant, but especially true here. I finally got around to trying Birrieria San Marcos. I bought $100+ worth of food which included: Quesobirria, Soft tacos, Tacos dorados, Tacos dorados with cheese, Burrito, Tacos San Marcos, Consome, and Rice. The good: I was able to eat a soft taco on the spot before getting my order into the car and driving 2.5 miles home. That first taco was divine. I didn't dress it up at all, just took it down raw and it was good. The soft tortilla and consome soaked birria worked well together. The rest of the food came home. The first bites at home were solid. The dorados with cheese was especially good. Two of the three salsas slapped. One wasn't my cup of tea, as it lacked flavor and seasoning and brought only heat. There was no salsa edible to my heat intolerant wife. The bad: Everything is one note. Once things cooled a bit and textures started to settle into some kind of homogeneous middle ground, everything tasted like everything else. Made me realize that everything kinda is everything else. Consomé soaked tortilla, crisped and/or heated and filled with stewed beef, sometimes with cheese, sometimes without. The quesadilla is kind of like the dorados with cheese, which is kinda like the mulita, which isn't far from the vampiro. The burrito wasn't much different either. The tacos San Marcos was the only texture/flavor break in the mix, which I was grateful for. The ugly: The beef is overstewed. As such, it's dry. Unavoidable, as it's stewed in hot broth all day. Because of this it's necessary to eat the food immediately, before the consomé spills or soaks away from the meat. The maximal deliciousness is super high. The floor is pretty far down relatively.
