Great little coffee shop tucked away from the main streets of Astoria-- you might just miss it! OK Coffee is a super cute, local, and small shop close to the N/W train in the hub of the neighborhood. They make both coffees and teas, as well as various innovative hot chocolates. Personally, my go-to here would be their delish lavender earl grey latte. Prices are comparable to other specialized local coffee digs in the area (and Manhattan). They also make other cafe goods. Customer service is always friendly and knowledgeable of their crafted drinks. Ask for a stamp card if you plan to pop here a lot. Some seating with tables, but there's a time limit for dining in. This has become one of my favorite local coffee shops. My boyfriend and I popped in on a whime and now I'm hooked !! The coffee taste delicious my personal favorite is the Lavender latte with almond/coconut milk! Also dying to try the rose vanilla latte...They also have a great selection of food including sandwiches, boiled eggs,yogurt, cookies,croissant, quiche and empanadas.My favorite is the veggies toast-hummus roasted red pepper spread cucumbers on peasant toast [see attached photo]! The name of this cafe is so fitting. I thought it was ok. Not bad but not particularly impressive either. I got the Maple almond latte and I didn't really like it that much. The coffee was a little too bitter, the foam tasted weird, and the latte art didn't look that nice. Just a heads up, substituting regular milk with almond milk gives the latte a very different taste. Sort of tasted like sweetened silken tofu IMO. I also got the almond croissant and that was very good. Flaky, buttery, nicely dusted with powdered sugar, and the almonds give it a nice crunch. The cafe itself is pretty small; only seats about 10 people. The guy taking orders was very nice. The barista...not so much. Located about a block away from the last stop on the N train. I moved to Astoria in October of last year! My normal "go-to" would be your typical Starbucks. I can say I've lost my "gold status" with Starbucks because of these guys. They also have a loyalty card so it's not like I'm missing my "free drink". (Maybe they should start an app. LOL) I love their Rose Vanilla Latte. I have started drinking tea more though, so their Red Tea Latte is my usual. Service is incredible so I don't know if I agree with some of the comments below. I also think it's a great idea that they have "no screen weekends" rule. I stare at a screen for work for more hours than I really want to. I like to sit and have an actual conversation with the person I'm with, or enjoy a book/magazine/comics!! I encourage the idea of people actually interacting with other humans :) ...but that's only my own opinion. NOTE! when it's cold out...PLEASE don't leave your dog tether outside while you're inside sipping on coffee. Take it to go, it tastes just as good. read more

Cute place, but in the pricier side generally, and particularly for the outer boroughs, but by less than a dollar. It's small but a comfortable place to hang out for a bit. Interestingly there's a seating time limit, which means it's not a place to hunker down and work, but that's fine. Along those lines, there's wifi in weekdays but no screens on weekends. They have some interesting specialty drinks in the menu, like a lavender London fog. Their chai is from a boxed concentrate, unfortunately. The cortado is good--bitter for the first sip or two, but good after that. The barista who helped me was knowledgeable and friendly. They take credit cards for any amount with a Square machine or the equivalent. I had a little time to pass in the neighborhood, and my googling didn't turn up an abundance of this kind of place, so it's nice that it's here. They've been here for about 2.5 years. read more

Walked in and was greeted right away. With 2 friends. Place was very small inside and crowded so we opted to enjoy our drinks outside on their bench, it was beautiful weather. Atmosphere: super hipster and tiny space but I loved it. Fun music at the perfect volume so you can actually talk and hear each other. But suuuuuper tiny space, so if you're having a more intimate convo, take it to 60 beans down the street. Coffee: I only tried the almond maple latte and a liiiiittle teeny bit too sweet for my liking. Although I think it has more than usually espresso because I'm wired up at the moment lol I wish they had more variety with their pastries but I didn't bother trying because nothing really spoke to me. Prices: $5..eh, what do you expect? Lol. Same as pretty much anywhere. Staff: super sweet. The cashier didn't really know the menu well but the barista jumped in to help out. OK Cafe coffee really gets me going. Strong coffee and a variety of it. It's good black, with milk, and/or sugar. Never bitter. Don't get me started on coffee quality, this place is it. Homemade pop tarts are a must. Any flavor, just pickone! Dining inside is fine, although the bench is taller than the chairs. I've yet to use the bar on the window. It's a small place and good for to-go. I can't wait to go back and try their matcha lemonade! read more

Really nice experience here this morning. I had a bit of extra time to catch the subway before work and decided to pop in. It's just off Ditmars, so it's taken me a bit more time than it should have to try it out. Really cozy and cute inside. A few tables and benches outside. Clean, quality equipment and nice use of space. Staff was friendly and quick. I was on my way, latte in hand, with time to take a quick picture for Yelp posting in 5minute. A customer coming in after me greeted the staff by name and they responded to him by name which was really sweet. I don't know, I tend to be more sentimental on Fridays, knowing the weekend is in sight. So this hit me in the heart. Pastries, menu items and snacks looked/sounded delicious, but I practiced my self control and retorted "no, just the latte will be all" to the tempting offer from the cashier. Latte was not bitter like they can be in premier coffee spots, which is great because my boyfriend will like this coffee and not give me a hard time when I want to stop :). I asked for the natural hazelnut flavor. Perfect amount of sweet. No need to add simple syrup. Which is cool because I didn't want to ruin the foam heart the barista carefully designed. Love that. I will definitely be back. I never grab a coffee before work...I've been going to 60 beans prior to trying OK Cafe, and that would mean backtracking farther from the subway if I were to go there in the AM on a weekday, and I don't leave myself even a hair of spare time, most days. This actually happened a while ago, but I just remembered it and wanted to share because it left me wondering. I came in on an rainy day and sat down with a latte - which was good! There were no other customers. I wasn't using a screen. Honestly I don't know how much time passed, but while I was still drinking my latte the owner came to my table and aggressively told me I needed to leave, that I had been there over 45 mns. When I looked around at the empty tables and said oh?, she snapped "it's actually been an hour." I'd just had surgery and it took me a minute to gather my things. She stood over me with a hate stare. Super cute little cafe in the NoDit (Northern Ditmars) area. Great selection of espresso drinks, vegan pastries and more. I got a hot latte with homemade maple flavor syrup...delicious taste and beautifully presented. The coconut macaroon bar (courtesy of This Chick Bakes) was spectacular- if they hadn't told me it was gluten-free, I wouldn't have guessed. In the sudden rush of flashy cafés opening in upper Astoria, OK Cafe stands out as a welcome alternative with an unassuming atmosphere staffed by friendly baristas. The fascinating cold drip contraption yields an anything-but-bitter iced cuppa. I love the Mexican spiced mocha & maple almond latte! And if you feel under the weather, their tumeric latte will cure what ails you - try the version with cinnamon, raw honey and ginger. I love that they use organic milk and are aces at steaming almond milk. And then there's their frittata sandwich. Good lord, is it delicious - served on a hot buttered English muffin. On the weekends their brunch menu is simple and lovely. I do love those California eggs. And they've got a great pastry and cookie collection for a little nibble with my cortado. To the haters whining because they can't park their asses in one of the 10 seats and stare at their screens for longer than 45 minutes, or at all on the weekends: GOOD. This isn't WeWork. This is a place to enjoy a drink and some food, have a little pleasant conversation, and skedaddle. FINALLY A CHIC COFFEE SHOP in ASTORIA! No offense, Greek Mafia, but I'm so happy to see cute local coffe/breakfast/deli shops like OK Cafe pop up around the area to spice things up a bit in Astoria! I stumbled upon OK Cafe while grabbing a quick mani/pedi and walked into a wonderful ambience of warmth and cozy latte-ness. Its so inviting and nice to know there's somewhere to go to work out of the house (I'm a multi-preneur) or treat myself to a cozy cup once in a while. The staff is very groovy and nice and they're really knowledgable of what you're asking for. I like their avant garde coffee menu as well. The Chai Tea and Decaf Vanilla Latte that i've tried so far are delish. AND THEY A PUNCH CARD! Take that Starbucks. Downside: The prices are LITTLE up there, but it personally keeps OK Cafe as a "treat" for me and I fully support local vendors. Coffee here is great, it's never very crowded if you want to sit, and free wifi is offered. I've come here many times and the service is very consistent. Only getting 3 stars because of my last experience, and because of it I will no longer come here. I sat down on a weekday late morning, only 1 other person was sitting. I was there for about 90 minutes, when the manager walked up to me and said, "next time we enforce a strict 45 minute wifi policy" and walked away quickly without giving me a chance to speak. I thought it was a bit strange because the place was empty, if it was crowded I would of course understand and respect this policy, but being it was empty i found her comments a bit rude. I won't be coming back as there are plenty of great coffee places walking distances that have let me stay even past closing. read more

I live right across the street and can't say enough about 1) the strong, delicious coffee and 2) the people who work there are super friendly and I'm excited to see them on a daily basis. Their New Orleans coffee is the jam and is v strong. The pastries and muffins are delicious and just what you need when you forgot to eat breakfast before you left your apartment. I really like this new addition to the Ditmars strip for the simple reason that their french press coffee is just how I like it, thick and dark. It's a very rich brew ready all the time. Really all their drinks are good, but it's the French press that is really special and a good value for what it is. Prices are otherwise kind of high; a cookie will set you back $3, which is about the minimum you can spend here. But this is a lovely place, still mostly vacant and undiscovered, so it's worth an extra dollar to have a nice place to enjoy nice drinks and pastries. I had high hopes as I had heard good things from friends and try to support small businesses, but when I went, I was really made to feel unwelcome. I came in on a weekend afternoon with a couple of friends. While deciding what to get, one of the baristas, Jack, suggested the red tea latte. This place is adorable! The minute you walk in you are greeted by the friendly owner and/or staff. You also get a warm feeling like you are home when you are there. Very comfortable place. The space isnt too big but for a coffee shop with sandwiches (and empanadas now), the seating is just enough. Even though they don't advertise it, I feel like they have seasonal specials. Cold brew coffee pops in the Summer?! YES PLEASE! Im not a fan of sweet coffees. As a matter of fact, I like my coffee in the morning to be a bit on the bitter side. When I come here, I get the complete opposite of that! Why? Because I feel like their "sweet" coffees arent that sweet but perfectly made. My favorite go to is an iced Maple Almond latte. Personally I feel like I can taste the maple more when its iced than hot with this drink. The London Fog is good too. What I love is that the baristas can conjure what you want or feel for at the moment. That is a pretty good talent and they have never steered me wrong. Their sandwiches are pretty addicting. To the point where I started making them on my own. The grilled cheese and apple sandwich is my favorite. It even has fig spread in it! Sadly, I have yet to try their swiss and ham sandwich. I have been in here before and this place is just great! Here is why! The drinks are very important and here they are very good. I mean like growning delicious good! The drinks are carefully made and well made. The price is on par with other shops. The pastries look delicious and similar to other shops even though I am currently the only one here the vibe is chill and perfect for some morning work. The bathroom is ah amazing by the way! Kicked me and my business partner out, said our "time was up." My business partner ordered 3 drinks, a baked good and another chocolate item. Staff member tried telling me I didn't purchase my drink and that my business partner did LOL. Meanwhile, I had ordered a drink prior to her shift starting and was getting another latte, until they told us our time was up and we had to leave. This place is really hit or miss. Sometimes it deserves 4 stars, sometimes it deserves 1. It really depends on who's pulling the shots. If it's the dude with the blonde ponytail, get the maple almond latte, thank me later. What a cute coffee shop. Warm decor, and friendly, welcoming staff -- since they can deal with the morning pre-coffeed me. They carry a range of coffee and tea drinks. According to their blackboard, they will be soon offering Van Leeuwen's ice cream and People's Pop's ice popsicles. Their baked goods are from This Chick Bakes. I tried the gluten-free coconut bar this morning, I was supposed to have a bite and save the rest until I reach the office. That did not happen, as I shamelessly devoured it on the subway. I'm not into gluten-free, I'm just into what is tasty. So far I have only tried their iced coffee and they are good--- Ok Cafe definitely serves some quality stuff. On my way back from brunch with my roommate, I saw OK Cafe and was surprised I had not noticed it before. We decided to quickly stop in for a coffee and head home. We each ordered a latte, her's a hazletnut soy and mine with almond milk. Ordering was quick and easy. The woman at the counter repeated our orders and took our money. Standard. As I waited for my drink, I overheard the barista talking with a customer who seemed to be a regular. Apparently they were out of almond milk, but specifically heard him say he has enough for this one. Fine, my drink still had almond milk. The other customer agreed to soy. Then he handed the drink to said customer which the cashier quickly grabbed from them and passed to me. "Here's your latte." "With almond milk, right?" "No, with soy. We're out of almond milk." "I wasn't told you were out of almond milk." Clearly frustrated, the cashier opened the drawer, took out the amount I paid in cash, and threw it across the counter. She then asked the barista in a strangely exaggerated manner, "Do you want it?" to which he refused. Although not ideal, running out of things is pretty standard in food service. How you handle these hiccups is a whole 'nother thing. No one asked me prior if I was fine with soy milk. No one bothered to see if I would like something else instead. No one apologized. With service that terrible, I'm totally OK with spending my money elsewhere. As for the actual coffee, my roommate said that the latte had too much foam, was more like room temperature instead of slightly hot, and wasn't that serious. I wouldn't be able to tell you from personal experience, nor do I ever intend on finding out. read more

Decent drinks, but can be hit or miss (their chai, for instance, which amounted to $7+, was brewed with a premade mixture and tasted like pure corn syrup). What's a true disappointment, however, is their tone-deaf customer service. I stopped by hoping to catch up on some studying (materials of which happened to be on my iPad air, because it's 2015 and all). In between 2 other people with full on 4 inch thick TOEFL/MCAT/whatever books and pens and papers (each with only 1 coffee in hand might I add) I was singled out and told that Saturdays and Sundays were "screen free." I'm sorry, what? Again, two other people with full on textbooks and pen and paper, and I was singled out for having an iPad because of their "screen free" policy. Keep in mind that there was little to no foot traffic at the time and that there was a completely empty table next to me, as well as empty bar seating by the windows. I understand the difficulty of running a small business, having helped my parents run one since I was a child, but being that this is a tiny cafe trust that your customers aren't total rude idiots and act like cordial adults (eg get up to leave space if there's a family waiting for a seat). And if not, why not have that conversation with a customer who has actually been there for longer than 5 minutes to indicate that space is at a premium and that you would appreciate turning over a table? I love this cozy new Astoria coffee addition to the Ditmars area. Cafe Bene, 60 Beans and this place all opened within a month of each other but to me, this is the biggest hit. They serve Counter Culture Coffee (french press or drip), make their own pop-tarts and the Mexican Chili Mocha is AMAZING :) The staff is super friendly and the seating is cozy. After paying $12 for a latte and a sandwich I was told I was not allowed to read my Kindle because it counted as an electronic device and there were no electronics on Saturday or Sunday. This policy is only put on the tables so you do not know that when you order. The place was completely dead. While I was waiting for my sandwich I thought someone come in and leave because she was not allowed to study. Since all of my books are on Kindle, I had no choice but to take my overpriced coffee tea and sandwich to go and try to find a place to read. It is no wonder this place was completely empty. I would not be shocked if it shut down soon and was replaced by a more accommodating coffee shop. Please do not make my mistake and go to this horribly unfriendly locale. read more
