I just ate at Oggi for a quick dinner and it was delicious and satisfying. I came in for a sandwich, and debated over the Caprese pressed sandwich and the Black Bean Pesto sandwich, but then ended up going with one of the specials; the Balsamic Pear and Brie pressed sandwich. It was really simple, just sliced pear tinged with balsamic vinegar and chunks of brie, warmed just enough so that the cheese was a little gooey but not melted, and the thick crispy bread tied it all together. Also it was a big sandwich, and only $4.00! I'm a sucker for a deal. My dining companions ordered the jerk chicken sandwich and the Caprese sandwich, and both said they were quite good. The only downside to this place is the layout; you sort of have to sit in the hallway-like walkthrough area of the lower level of the Holyoke Center. Not exactly relaxing or great ambiance, but if you're looking for a sandwich to go this is a great option. read more

Oh sheeet! New York style pizza in the Boston hiz-ouse!! Finally someone in Boston knows how to make that paper thin crust with a thick, fluffy "handle." The pepperoni slice only had about 3 little pieces of pepperoni on it but both that and the tomato basil slice were deliciously garlicky and flavorful. I didn't really need two of these oversized slices, but they were cheap, so I indulged. I've yet to try the sammiches but the ones I was eyeing on others plates looked pretty magically delicious. There is also a wide variety of drinks, chips, and cute little packaged salads, all ready to go for us workers who have to scoot on back to our glamorous jobs in dilapidated houses... My boss is a real New Yahkah and she's a big fan of Oggi, so if you don't trust me, trust her much older and wiser opinion. (Heh.) read more

The sandwiches are decent, and the pizza is only so-so. But the wait is terribad. I've gone several times now, and each time I've ordered a sandwich, I've had to wait 20 minutes. Sorry, I just don't have that kind of time. If you're after a good slice of pizza, do yourself a favor and hit up Armando's or Pinocchio's instead. If you're looking for a good excuse to soak up the air conditioning in the holyoke center... well... that's as good a reason as any to come eat here! Located on the first floor of the Holyoke building (aka the tallest building in Harvard Square), Oggi is a solid lunchtime destination for those who work at Harvard and locals who are in the know. If you're looking for a quick and delicious lunch, I would recommend the pizza here. The slices are consistently good--Oggi offers a thin, cornmeal-based crust and topping-wise, usually has pepperoni, basil and tomato (for the veggies out there), and a third, more creative option that tends to be different on each visit. Oggi's definitely serves the best thin crust pizza I have had in Boston, and the toppings and ingredients taste a bit fresher than those on offer at Pinocchio's, my other Harvard-area pizza joint. read more

As I walked over to Oggi today, I realized I hadn't reviewed it on Yelp yet, so I mentally started composing my review in my head (as you do). I realized my biggest stumbling block on this place is the service which is consistently very friendly but also very "special" - slow and unorganized. As I was walking up the steps of the Holyoke Center, it hit me like a lightening bolt why this is - how could I have been so stupid? Since Harvard first opened its doors in 1639, it's a time honored tradition that any pizza joint that is within 5 miles of a college campus in the United States will be staffed solely by people who are off their tree. Confirming my revelation were the Cypress Hill-like deep bass sounds booming from Oggi as I stood in the haphazard line and waited to order. "I want to get hiiiiigh, so f*($ing hiiiiiiigh." I momentarily reminisced about all the times we'd give the Mellow Mushroom delivery guy a bong hit as an extra tip... It all clicked into place. I was happy to wait a moment while the cashiers and cooks sorted themselves. My order would get to me eventually, man. And it's always worth the wait--Oggi makes fluffy and delicious pizza that will satisfy all comers, stoned or not, with daily slice specials that are often ridonkulously good in their creativity and flavors. The sandwiches are delectable, mouth-watering tummy-fillers and their cookies are wicked tasty. The seating is surprisingly chillaxed considering its in the busy Holyoke hallway. Mondays from 6pm - 8pm you can get a 16" tomato basil pizza for only $5 if you eat in or pick up - that's a great deal for a great pizza! Oggi loves you, so go show them some love. read more

This place confuses me. On the one hand, good burgers, and very tasty pizza. On the other, I can never figure out why other people get things on plates when I often get them wrapped up, even when I say I'm staying... Condiments are hard to find, no ketchup bottles, and the burger, should come with, I dunno, some sort of side: if not some fries, or some chips, maybe a piece of fruit or something? I take a bite of burger and then go for the crunchy thing on the plate and realize there isn't one. All I've got is burger! My mind can't cope! The pizza is pretty good, thin and crispy, but the place is small and can get backed up at lunch hour, so I don't stop by too often. read more

Oggi is like Clover Food Lab's less vegetarian sibling, and I love both of them equally. I have to ask, why is there so much hype over Otto's pizza a few doors down, and none about Oggi? Maybe because nobody knows how to say the name. Well, guess what. "Oggi" means "today" in Italian. As in, fresh ingredients and menu items daily. Whaddaya know. Oggi's pizza has scrumptious, fresh, oddball (in a good way) ingredients on delicious, delicious crust. There is a special slice and a special soup each day, and you never know what you're going to get. Just today I had pizza with basil, broccoli, black bean, and red onion, and a white yam soup with smoked mozzarella and clove honey - say WHAT? They always carry the basics: pepperoni and tomato-basil-garlic. If you want to buy a whole pie, you've got lots of choices. There's an array of salads and gourmet sandwiches too. And, the staff is always cheerful and service is fast. Let's just say that Oggi is one of my standbys on the weekly lunch rotation, and Otto's is not. read more

I've only had the burgers, but these burgers are as good as it gets (at only $5.99 with fries included!!!). Moist, freshly-grilled, huge patties, crisp yet tender buns... Plus interesting ingredients that change daily (avocado, basil, smoked hickory something something... I forget some of the ones I've seen, but they're all mouth-watering). Their burger special is a standby for me. They're so delicious and so cheap, I bought three more of them for the homeless "pit kids" right next door! Yes, I'm serious. And they also agree that Oggis burgers are amazing. One of them asked me to adopt him. I politely declined, on the grounds that he was likely over 18 and ineligible to be adopted in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Get these burgers and fries. Get them now. So I normally wouldn't write a review based on just stopping by twice.... but really after this morning I felt compelled to share just how huge the portions and drinks are at Oggi! The first time I stopped by I just got a latte - it was so huge that I assumed someone had heard me wrong and gave me a medium or large instead of a small. Today I ordered a small coffee, and not only was the coffee good, but for 1.50 it was the size of at least a medium starbucks or a large from one of the smaller establishments around. The breakfast food and pizza always smells amazing. This morning I saw the french toast being prepared and it was seriously as big as my head. We were deciding between Oggi or Otto. Otto nailed Oggi to the wall. I don't even remember what flavors we had. But they are quite standard. Wild mushroom and italian sausages or something like that. the pizza got pretty soggy because of the juice from the mushroom. (they didn't cook the mushroom separately! what a noob!) the dough and the sauce were just meh. I've always whizzed by this place when I'm running other errands in the Holyoke Center, but I'm glad I stopped here for a simple dinner with one of my best girls, Melissa S., after work last night. We both ordered sandwiches, though I've read/heard that their pizzas are awesome, and from the deliciousness of my Grilled Caprese, I have this inkling that their 'za is probably going to impress my taste buds as well. 7.95 for a big sandwich and a side of handcut French fries? Mos def. Melissa ended up getting the chicken special sandwich of the day, which was also very good (all sandwiches come with fries). Plus, Oggi has an assortment of seating options strewn about, so you can enjoy your food however you'd like. On a picnic bench/table, on plush leather chairs (careful--you'll sink further down than you initially thought you would--or at least I did!), or on wooden straight-backs. Whatever floats your boat. Will definitely be back for lunch/dinner/fourth meal/whatever. :o) read more

Me and my da' had lunch here today. Food: We had Deluxe Oggi Burgers. The burger was soooooo yummmmy! I liked that it did not come with fries or onion rings or anything of that sort, usually it makes the whole meal too much (i.e. too oily and over-load of quantity). All the ingredients (meat, veggies, even ketchup) were fresh and very good quality. I didn't leave even a single piece of tomatoes on plate. Mango smoothie was just OK. I wish it was Mango Lassi or milk shake instead. They also have yummy looking pizza, apple pie, and coffee which I must try next time. Service: Depends on person, girl there was not so friendly or helpful (not rude either) but the guy there with a cowboy hat (Arabic origin??) was very friendly and helpful. He came to ask how the burger was and I replied "great!" which I usually don't say. He smiled and said, "you missed the whole Burger incident earlier." I asked him what that was, and he replied that just before we got there, there was a fire alarm that went off in the whole arcade area. The other customers (2 college guys) sitting behind us apparently just got the burgers as the alarm rang. "They were like, 'Oh no, I want the burgers, do we really have to evacuate...???' and they didn't want to move from their seat." I thought that was pretty funny, and also shows how good the burger is here. I will definitely come back here and try more (if not all) of what's on their menu. P.S. I went to eat Hawaiian Pizza (ham, pinapple etc.) for dinner today 4/16/08. It was great, but I must say I am in love with their burger... so next time I have to have that burger again! read more

Popular pizza / salad / sandwich place in Harvard Square. I prefer their pizza-by-the-slice to Upper Crust's (I find Upper Crust's pizzas a bit too flat and thin). But best of all they have online ordering that's very reliable! I was planning a get together with a few friends and knowing that would forget to order the pizza until the last minute, I decided to order 3 days in advance. I received an email confirmation, but was a little worried about whether the pizza would arrive. But within 5 minutes of the pre-ordered time, the pizza was delivered. I wrote a review for this place a while back and after a long time I made another trip back. Last time, I wrote that the crust was doughy, etc. Today, after trying it again, I have to say that I'm excited to go back and try it again! Previously, I only ate the pizza. Today I ate a tomato/basil pizza and a side of the tomato and asiago soup. What are the differences from then til now? 1. The crust was perfectly crispy on the bottom and along the crust. Crispy in the outside and hot and doughy on the inside. 2. Sauce was flavorful, not too salty for me. To me, it's overkill if the sauce is salty and then you have a salty cheese over top. 3. The crust was definitely not doughy. Thin, but not razor thin. Right where you want it to be. 4. They used toasted sesame seeds along the crust/outside of the pizza. I don't remember this before and I thought it was a really nice touch. Added a nice flavor. Of course, that may be an allergy issue for some. The soup was just ever-so-slightly salty and had an awful lot of black pepper. It was noticably spicy/smokey. It was good, but not memorable. I would probably stick to the pizza next time. The had a very enticing feta/eggplant pizza that I will be trying next time I go back. Overall, the 2 things that stick out in my head as I remember the pizza are the crispiness of the crust and the sesame seeds. I will be going back! read more

The best thing going for this place is that they are located in the building where I work. This should be a no-brainer--a quick elevator ride downstairs, but unfortunately I find myself instead turning to 'Noch's, b.good, Finale, Flat Patties, or sometimes 7-11's Dinty Moore Beef Stew, rather than bothering with Oggi. At times I will even resort to the Au Bon Pain... Some people like their pizza. I find it too dry and flaky, and it gives me heartburn. The other food there is pretty good, but the service is slow, and after you order takeout you are left in a strange state of limbo with nowhere comfortable or convenient to wait. So you just stand there like an idiot for several minutes meandering around... I truly enjoy the breakfast panini's, but the last time I went at 10:15 AM, while they were cooking eggs, they told me that I couldn't order one because breakfast is only served until 10. The Oggi Burger looks good and I may eventually give this place another shot, but they should really work out the kinks if they want to make anyone truly happy with their dining experience... read more

I think Christina's picture of the small pizza was pretty spot on. This pizza place makes good pizza, but they overpromise and underdeliver consistently. When I ordered my large 16" pizza, I knew immediately that there was no way that pizza was 16" I felt like I was being cheated, but I wasn't going to make a fuss about it. For a while, they replaced their amazing sesame seed crust with a flaky onion crust, though it looks like the sesame seeds are back. Sesame seed crust: Easily 5 stars. Honestly out of this world pizza, among the best I've ever had, anywhere, ever. Including pizza from the motherland. With the onion crust: A solid 3 stars. OK, but boring and nothing special. 5 stars for the gourmet pizza, 3 stars for the sandwiches (sandwich quality's ok, but way too expensive for the size). Haven't tried the burgers, since I don't eat meat. Oggi is really the only place I will go in Harvard Square for a reliable slice, and I work a stone's throw away from Upper Crust. I think Noch's has more nostalgia and tradition going for it than actual taste. Oggi's "special" (slice of the day) is always spectacular, worth the price difference. If the special's vegetarian, I'll almost always get one of that and one slice of tomato basil. It's not NY style pizza, largely because it fills you up more on the crust than the grease sheen. If you're looking for a traditional, fold-in-half slice, take a walk and go to Armando's. They're both excellent, but they serve different purposes (and I can eat at Oggi more often because it's not so heavy). There's not a whole lot of seating, but if you go outside of the peak lunch hour, you can always snag one of the really comfortable bar chairs. I prefer the side where I can see them (usually Steve, the owner) making the pizza; the other side is drinks and sandwiches. read more

Fantasic pizza. Even better on Mondays nights when their tomato basil pizza is $5 (large!) WOAH. I have only had a few other things here, like some cookies, salad, and coffee. Coffee was pretty good but everything else was meh compared to their pizza. I will eventually get around to trying their burgers and soups, I bet they're good. Oh Oggi. If I could have your turkey club every day I would. That and your breakfast cookie in the morning (of which I think has been discontinued, unfortunately). Every now and then you'd be my little gourmet treat. Oggi is one of those places that specializes in average pizza but excellent everything else. They've got a small menu. Pizza they sell by the pie or slice and a number of tasty salads and sandwiches that you're satisfied when you get one but wish you could eat 2. But I don't do that, because gluttony is not a good thing and I believe too much of a good thing can be bad for you. Hooray for self control!! That being said if you do come here definitely try one of their sandwiches. All the ingredients are fresh including the bread and veggies. Meats like their jerk chicken are well seasoned. They very well could rival places like Panera with their tasty toasted paninis. read more

I am surprised at the positive rating for this place- maybe we just caught it on a bad afternoon but my boyfriend and I were really disappointed with the whole experience. I decided to go here based on Yelp reviews, which usually steer me in a good direction, and was happy that it was so easy to find. That's about the best I can say about the trip! We ordered our food and waited. And waited. And waited some more. I am not a fan of the randomly placed tables with low chairs in the middle of a building. I would have preferred seating inside of the restaurant. Numerous times, people stood by our table or knocked into it as they walked by. I hate that sort of stuff- personal space, and all! Anyway, when we finally got our meals (side note- the writing on the boxes was kind of cute), they simply were not that good. For a sandwich and a burger, that came with nothing else (no chips, no fries) they were expensive for the portion you received. My burger was mostly various kinds of lettuce. My boyfriend did like his sandwich, and it did appear heartier than what I ordered. The burger was way under cooked. I ordered medium. It was beyond bloody in some parts. I couldn't eat it. We also ordered fries. They were okay, but nothing special. I will never go here again, sad to say. Their coffee menu looked awesome, but after the disappointing food, there was no way I was going to try an over priced coffee. The whole atmosphere was not very welcoming. Maybe it's better if you take the food home and don't try to eat it as a teen next to your table stares at you. Not my scene! Final word of advice, if you order a hamburger you probably want to say well done or you're going to get under cooked meat. Yuck. read more

They have fresh squeezed juices now! I just had a carrot, apple, ginger one and while it was small and not very cold, it was quite good. I also got the simple green salad which consists of simple greens, a sliced cherry tomato, a few slices of english cucumber (can you please peel the skin off, it tastes so much better without it).some generic croutons that reminded me of Pepperidge Farm which is not a complaint, just an observation, and a little feta cheese. It was supposed to have shredded carrots but there were not any in mine. Balsamic is the dressing. Service is friendly and fast. Good quick lunch option. read more

Oggi's setup is a little confusing. They have menus on some of the tables, but you're actually supposed to order from the cash register inside. The pizza slice of the day (something called "sleeping beauty") was some of the best pizza I have EVER had in Boston or anywhere. It was remarkably delicious, very innovative, and didn't even have cheese. The dough was fluffy and tasty since it had a light seasoning of sesame seeds thrown into the batter. You could taste that they only use the highest quality ingredients, and really care about the preparation. I was so excited that I ordered another slice - tomato basil... It was mediocre (sigh...). I don't think that they serve slices of plain cheese, which I thought was interesting. The fresh squeezed orange juice was great! This is more like 4.5 stars -- I take off a half star b/c I do think its kind of expensive. That said, however, I think that you can't beat their specialty pizzas-- and DEFINITELY not in Harvard square. Every specialty pizza that I have had there has been amazing, and even when it has ingredients that I don't usually like, and would NEVER want on a pizza--such as squash! The only downer is that they have so much creativity in their specialty pizzas that you may fall in love with a particular slice and never have the fortune to eat it again! I am not sure if they repeat at all, but everytime I have eaten there--or even walked by and glanced at the daily pizza board--I have never seen the same thing twice. However, if you do just want a slice of pepperoni (which they do have everyday) there are other options in the square for a cheaper, more traditional fix. If you want to send your tastebuds on a trip around the world, then try the daily special & you won't be surprised. The burgers are also very well done. I had a ranch burger, which I didn't love--just cheese and ranch--I needed some lettuce or tomatoes or SOMETHING. BUT I will say that the meat itself was perfect. It was juicy without being underdone and the bread was yummy. So, if I want to splurge and get another burger with toppings that I will actually like I am sure it will be fantastic. read more

Kind of feel bad giving 3 stars to this joint. It is "A-OK", but it is no "Yay! I'm a fan". Staff is definitely very nice. Good attitude, fast service (on a Saturday afternoon). I also liked that there were bunch of families with little kids. Much preferred to the usual crowds of either punks, faux-hipsters, or popped-collar d-bag legacies. Now let us get to food. Went there with my wifey. I got Spicy Roast Beef sandwich. 2.75-3 stars. It should have caramelized onions instead of grilled, chipotle mayo was lacking expected smokiness, roast beed was average. Good roast beef alone could take this sandwich to 4 stars. Wifey got the basil chorizo pizza. She definitely liked the crust. It was not the usual cardboard cr@p New Yorkers won't shut up about. It was something in the middle between that and a proper pizza. Dough was definitely 5 stars. She also was craving for more cheese on it. Some buffalo mozzarella would turn it into something really exceptional. Value... This is Harvard Square after all, Harvard screws everyone with uberhigh rents and you pay for it. I like Oggi a lot. I eat lunch there when I'm working in Harvard Sq. The people are really nice, and the pizza is fresh and interesting. They have great specials that are affordable -- like sometimes they have burger specials, or sandwiches. They are often fabulous. The pizza specials are cheerfully adventurous. These people really care about food. I had a slice of their pizza slice of the day, which had broccoli, bacon, and bleu cheese. My mouth was pleasantly surprised by the mixing of all the flavors and textures. The crust was perfectly crunch, the broccoli was tender, yet had that just right crispy broiled floret tips, the bacon was perfectly done, not soggy and fatty, nor burnt, but the cheese (WOW!) woke my mouth up with it's surprising zingy tanginess. I was here on a reunion trip, so each meal is important to me. This one was well worth it. And the folks that work there are very interesting and approachable while conveying their love of food in all that they do. Well this place is pretty nice and a very cool and relax atmosphere. That place is a college student's hangout place. their pizza are a little bit expensive. $5 special slice pizza ...that have ham, sausage and mushroom all on top....hmmmm. They don't have slices of cheese pizza ( which came to a shock to me..because i love cheese pizza) however they do have pepperoni Pizza. so i brought that instead. when i ate this pizza , ii had a mix tasted between a garlic bread and cheese with pepperoni. the crust of the pizza would have been great for like a garlic bread. The services is great and all, but if you want to save some money and also enjoy a nice lunch or dinner. Then Pinocchio is still the best place to be...sorry oggi better luck next time. read more
