I have tried use the Ballard Office Max on Leary Way. I've given up as of today. I tried to get copies made yesterday and the machine didn't work. I asked for help and the red headed man in the print department said I could put in a order at the print desk and get them tomorrow. Note: I need 2 black and white 8.5 x11" copies. Today I went in and made 5he copies on my own. The ink was low and what I got back was two gray and white copies with stripes going vertically through the page. Once again I asked the red haired fellow for help. He would not even look at me. He told me to order from the desk and I could get my 2 copies tomorrow around 5:00. I've paid for the prints because the photocopy machine thought it had printed good copies. This man is curt, lazy, and very rude. Save yourself the headache and go elsewhere. read more

The service that I received today at 11:30am on 6/23/2024 from the leader on duty was outstanding! The person who helped me was so kind and understanding- for some reason on the self service printer my doc would not load and print from email and they took the time to give me other options and ended up printing for me while seamlessly helping other customers- all with an extremely helpful attitude! Each time I shop this location the service is like this. The team has to also deal with the ongoing homeless and sometimes dangerous entities that surrond this part of ballard. The management of the print shop has absolutely no concept of customer service. I needed 35 copies of simple one page 8.5X11 document. Front line fellow did a few test pages with changing contrasts and we hit upon the right contrast. I paid in advance. Why they didn't just hit print then escapes me. we'd done 5 test pages. Fellow tells me if we get it done before 5:00 we'll call you. I take that to mean it will be done by 5:00. I come in the next morning and it's not done. They tell me they can have it by 2:00pm. I say why can't they do it now. No machines are running. Folks are sitting alone at the counter. "We have a print cue." That'd be convincing if any of the machines were actually running. He tells me he can do it now, 24 hours later- if I pay a 25% rush fee! The whole time the manager (Kevin) radiated annoyance. No empathy. No customer service. I took my money back, drove to Kinko's. they did it in 5 minutes at 25% less. I'm never using them again. These were posters for an event. I lost two days of posting waiting for a 5 minute job. The best recycled content of their paper was 30%. I can think of no excuse for not having a 100% recycled option. I easily found it on Amazon. I've had occasion to do some lamination work, and I'm happy to report that their printing services are very good even though they are very busy. The middle-aged man, who told me has a cat that uses a cattery, working in that department was especially helpful, efficient, and friendly. He and his colleagues work very hard: I have nothing but admiration for them. ***** The only thing that was of concern to me was that, instead of a weekly flyer, they had 18-page full color printed pages, stapled together. Office Max advertises that they have all the items that you need for an office. After browsing through and seeing that they sell medications for diarrhea and heartburn here, I would say that's probably a true statement. The breadth of the variety here is a little surprising, ranging from printers to coffee makers, and usually I can find whatever I'm looking for here. And sometimes things that I'm not looking for: it's easy to get hypnotized by the kaleidoscope of multi-colored Post-its and end up walking out with a 10 piece ergonomic highlighter set. If I ever need to highlight something in fuschia, now I'm set. So, this is your basic Office Max: the place is pretty clean and the staff is reasonably helpful. If you need something office or work related, you can probably find it here. To add a piece of local flavor to this chain store, check out the cars parked across the street at the north end of Leary Avenue. During most weekdays, there is a Big Bird-yellow car parked here that serves as an advertisement: it has all kinds of logos and propellers that poke out in various directions. I do like this place. It has everything I need from an office store. Gary, the manager, had a tough issue with one of my returns and it could have been really difficult, but he made it a smooth transaction. Kudos to him and the employee who brought the issue to his attention. I've come here for years to get paper, ink, school supplies, and other random office stuff. The prices are fair, and most everything is great. I gave 4 stars instead of 5 because the OfficeMax brand ink doesn't last so long like the HP brand for me. And because they don't refill their own, it seems, although i could swear when the last sales guy tried to get me to switch to the non-name brand he said they did. I could swear it. Anyhow, so I bought it, and when I came for a refill....DENIED. I'll just stick to HP, but that means back to Costco for better pricing. At least I can get refills though at OfficeMax where the employees are cool! These guys can whip out a copy job like nobody's business! I recommend OfficeMax for all your office supplies. read more

This Office Max location is pretty decent. I go here periodically for work and pretty much always find what I'm looking for. Service is usually pretty friendly. The staff always seems to let you do your own thing before asking if you need help finding anything, which I really appreciate. The only downside is that if there's a long line, it moves quite slowly and no other cashiers ever open up new lanes, even if there are plenty of employees wandering around. There's always plenty of parking, which is a bonus. Prices seem a bit high in comparison to a lot of the items we buy from Office Depot, but since we go to Office Max to find the things we can't find at Office Depot, there's not much we can do about it! read more

Parking lot: Plenty of space and I was able to park right in front. Cleanliness/Organization: I will say that the store was clean and mostly organized (you can't expect them to instantly clean up after every customer that moves merchandise around). There were some obvious areas that were emptied of stock (pen/pencil aisle) that almost looked like a going out of business sale. Not sure what that was about. I can't imagine that it would be related to back to school supplies since it was the first week of July at the time of my visit. Shopping/Customer Service: I eventually found what I was looking for but was not offered help by any of the many employees that passed by me while I was obviously searching. I understand that many customers don't want to be repeatedly asked if they need help while they're just browsing, but I think I looked fairly confused and was walking back and forth between two aisles. Just one person to ask if I needed help would have been nice. Of course, I absolutely could have asked for help if I truly needed/wanted it. Maybe it's their policy to be present and available if customers need help but not to ask. I must add that the cashier was very friendly and reminded me - after seeing my teacher rewards card - that I needed to come back for their teacher specials later that summer. The self copying machine was confusing to use in terms of printing the receipt for how many copies we made, had to get an associate and they didn't know either. I worked at this office max for almost two years. I don't even know where to begin. I loved, most, of my employees. The print department people were my buddies, the sale associate, Jose, was the best employee any store could ask for. And the top manager, Randy, who no longer works there, opened up his own hardware store, Stone Way Hardware, and was a very Caring manager. There was always drama with the employees, but i believe that's because they always hired high school students for their cashiers. Office max is very strict on how we talk to customers and what we say to them. we HAD to ask for a zip code, we HAD to ask for a max perks card, we HAD to ask for protections planned. and once we were denied, we still had to ask. We would get tons of complaints a day about asking for all those, but fellow office max customers, WE HAVE TO. ...or else... It's either lose your job for not getting enough max perks sign ups or replacement plans or ask for them. I guess that's what you get working for a huge corporate business. read more

One bad experience with an unhappy employee is not good; but not a good reason to go to Amazon, Fred Meyer, Best Buy etc. I use my rewards and coupons to get discounts. Don't waste your time with OfficeMax. I called in today looking for a simple cable adapter. I spoke to a rep on the phone who went to "check" if they had it. He came back on the line and said they did. In fact, we ended the call with "I'll be over in 15 minutes to pick it up". I left my office with this unfinished project, got to the store and spoke to another rep who told me they don't have it. I politely told him this wasn't possible, as I spoke to a rep less then 10 minutes ago and he "checked" to make sure I didn't make a trip for nothing. To make matters even more interesting, the rep uses his radio and asks if "anybody remembers a call about this cable adapter". Another rep replies that he did remember, but they don't have it. After expressing my frustration by asking how this could be? That I called and they checked! The floor crew member offered to go get the rep I spoke with to tell me that they don't have it then. Lessons of the day: -OfficeMax is a company where the right hand doesn't talk to the left hand. In other words, they can't communicate well internally, so what makes you think they can communicate well to their customers? - If you value your time, then forget about OfficeMax. -If your business/office depends on office supplies or any other items that will make your business run smoother, then forget about OfficeMax and buy it ANYWHERE else. Congratulations OfficeMax, you have managed to drive a local business away over a simple cable. Today, three lonely customers -- myself included -- were forced to wait for about 15 minutes while the "General Manager" (who was also the ONLY cashier and the ONLY salesperson on the floor) attended to a customer with a complex printing job.
