At risk of not receiving your purchase, I suggest using Paypal or a credit card. I was happy to support a local business, especially one that offered cool merch from popular 90s Seattle. Shocked at the lack of customer service and follow through. Two weeks after my order was placed, no ship confirmed or update. I used the website 'Help' portal but received no response. I called the physical store location a minimum of 7x but no answer. So I used the Help portal again. No response. After a month of no response or order update, I contacted Paypal to cancel my order. And wouldn't you know it--a day later, I finally get a response. The excuse given by Desteenation: "Your message got sent to junk mail"--I didn't send an email though. I contacted them through their portal, so how would it end up in junk mail? I get that there are businesses that aren't great at customer service, but I don't like being lied to. After another week of no update, I finally got my money back. The business didn't send me the refund--Paypal got my money back. If you feel like you really want to order from this site, use Paypal or a credit card. That way you can get your money back if the company doesn't respond. read more

I ordered a shirt from their online store, was promptly charged for it, & received an email confirmation of my order with an explanation it could be 3 weeks before my order would be fulfilled. OK, I've been forewarned. That was JULY 2024. To date... Nothing. Nada. Zilch. After many attempts to call and several emails, still nothing. They haven't even responded to the Better Business Bureau complaint I filed. Next stop, the Federal Trade Commission. It's not even about the money anymore. You can't just steal from people. I placed an order on 10/30 and it is 12/16 and I have never received my order or an update. I have left multiple messages via their website requesting an update, have called their phone (voicemail is full), and emailed them using the email address on their Instagram (emails bounce and give me an error stating "The account or domain may not exist, they may be blacklisted, or missing the proper dns entries.") I know COVID is affecting a lot of businesses, but the least you can do is answer inquiries and provide updates. Transparency is a lot better than leaving me to think I just threw money away for a shirt I will never receive for a month and a half. I can't say enough about this business. I called in regards to a t-shirt that I wanted to purchase for my brother as a gift. I wanted to send it with my parents who were leaving for an early flight the next morning but I was not able to make it to the store by closing time. The owner was so understanding and accommodating and let me pick up the shirt as soon as I got out of work (only a few minutes past closing time.) I am pretty sure their business model is that they take your money, never plan on shipping your order, and just hope that you don't fight them to get your money back. After five months of them not shipping my order and not responding to e-mails or calls or website inquiries, I finally threatened to report them for fraud. They responded within 2 hours saying they would give me a refund within 3-5 days. I sent a followup e-mail giving them a firm deadline and they finally refunded my money within about 10 minutes. I haven't been to the physical store, but I have to say the online service SUCKS. I ordered a shirt in early January and got this message: "The shirt is on back-order at this time and we are expecting more inventory shortly." I wrote a note in mid-February and got this note: I am very sorry for the delay on this shirt...I'm told that a shipment will arrive within the next ten days." It is now the end of March. I have heard nothing, and I don't expect to. This is so dumb - why offer products on your website that you don't stock? And why make promises that you can't honor? It's just a few bucks, and so easy to give an honest answer! Stopped in here while strolling around Fremont one day on vacation. What an amazing selection! There needs to be one of these in every city. I picked up a Linda's Tavern tee, one of the few designs available on the AA track shirt. It is so comfortable and soft, and the fit is very boobalicious. Random people from Seattle approach me when I am wearing it. Sadly I am just a poser and have never actually been to Linda's Tavern or lived in Seattle. I love their T-Shirts- the designs are great and the material is extra soft- but offering a $10 "grab bag" - a brown paper bag containing 2 shirts of unknown size and design- that doesn't at least specify the size- is the dumbest thing ever. I asked the lady behind the counter if there was any way to at least figure out the size and her response was less than helpful. She told me that there wasn't- and that if the shirts don't fit that they would make "great gifts". These guys make it hard & frustrating to buy from them. Meh. read more

But their online service offers very cool shirt designs featuring many local businesses. Last year I visited my birth family in California, and brought a bunch of these shirts from Seattle -- ordered from http://desteenation.com. They were well receive -- thought they were ultra-cool, and love them. Major family points by cashing in on the Seattle hip factor, I guess, and this shirt shop is a great place to do it. The order was delievered on time (just in time for me to get the shirts to them), and their sizing guidelines (erring toward smaller) do help to decide on correct sizing. The shirts are high quality and really, those designs are just awesome. I'm a little surprised more reviews have not been done on this cool little shirt store. read more

I love almost everything about this place. The idea is brilliant, and the execution is top notch. The only two problems that I find with Destee-Nation are as follows. One: American Apparel shirts. I dont' like the company, and I hate their shirts. The sizes run very small, they shrink and lose shape in the laundry, and frankly I'd rather stick with cheaper alternatives, either domestically produced or imported. I don't want to sacrifice quality for this brand. Two: These are pricey tees. Almost every other tee shirt outlet is cheaper, and cheaper by far. Maybe the American Apparel brand is the reason, I don't know. Other than these two issues, both of which can be addressed in one fell swoop, I think this place is the tops. Check it out, but careful of the American Apparel sizes. Ask for help in that department. read more

The $27 non-organic cotton t-shirts seem to be a bit pricy given that Threadless has $10 sales every other week, but if you have a hankering for a King's Hardware bulldog tee, you probably won't find it anywhere else. I personally think that it's a little weird to wear Seattle-themed tees while in Seattle, but they do make good gifts for hipster friends and family members. They also have a limited selection of tees bearing the logos of other cities' landmark institutions. It's also worth checking out the sale section on the back shelves. Most of the $10 sale tees are XXL but you may luck out (like I did) and find a size M "Deep Eddy" hoody for $15 that will make a great Christmas gift for your brother, Ed. read more

Destee-Nation is the perfect store for a Yelper or any other fanatical consumer. Seattle is full of fun, quirky retailers and restaurants for those of us who are looking for something beyond the chain store experience. What better way to show of your favorite places than with a T-shirt? There are all kinds of shirts with logos of famous and not-so-famous Seattle shops, and I can't think of much more to say than that you should go visit yourself. My only complaint is that the store's inventory can be limited: I've gone three times so far and have failed to get a shirt with La Carta de Oaxaca on it. There's also not much opportunity for customization. Maybe you like a logo, but you really wish it weren't on a hot pink shirt. Too bad. But that's rarely a problem. The service is also surprisingly good. My girlfriend once bought a shirt for her brother, shipped it to him, and then had it returned because it was too small. The only larger size had just been purchased by the cashier the day before, but she offered to bring it back for an exchange. I can't think of a better example of putting the customer first. read more

Coolest. T-shirt shop. Ever. So, I only just moved back to Seattle after an extended hiatus in California. While living in California, I never gave up my northwest ties or my Seattle roots. One of the ways that I did this was through staying distinctively northwest looking, otherwise termed "outdoorsey" in places outside of the northwest and Colorado. Its not that I made a conscious effort to do this. It just came naturally. You know, that old adage: You can take the kid out of the NW but you can't take the NW out of the kid? This is how I was often described to people who hadn't yet met me, or had and were trying to sum me up in a word. i.e. "Jon? Oh...he's kinda...'ourdoorsey'." Outside of wearing Fleece, gore-tex when it rained, and wool socks when it was cold (but NEVER with tevas...) one of the ways I kept my roots is through T-shrits that were distinctively Seattle. Where did I get these T-shirts? From Destee-Nation of course! Their website is awesome. Their shirts are super-comfortable, fit great, and they do a good job of representing some of the coolest and historic places around town. (hats off to Sunset Bowl *tear*) Now that I've moved back to Seattle I don't have the same need to represent the NW anymore through t-shirts (though I still do) but I do stop in here from time to time just when I need a cool, new, obscure t-shirt. Terrible service!! I ordered and paid for a t-shirt in May 2011 and was informed shortly afterwards that there had been an error in their inventory system and the t-shirt was actually not available in stock. They agreed to send the t-shirt once it was re-stocked. That was last May, 2011. I didn't hear anything for a long period so I emailed them and they said they were still awaiting it. This has continued until now, March 2012. They never contact me, and ignore most of my emails. It's a joke.They still owe me a t-shirt. Update: They have now apologised for the problems, citing communication issues with their warehouse people, and ensure me they are on the job and I'll have my t-shirt as soon as possible. Let's hope they follow through. I'll update this when it arrives. Update: Well they haven't followed through yet. I've been to great places during my visits to Seattle. I happened across the Destee-Nation website while "working" at work and made it a point to visit the brick and mortar store on my next visit to Seattle. It's right in the heart of the Center of the Universe next to the awesomely bad ass rocket ship. It is kinda small, almost trailer-like size and kinda warm, a welcome relief to the cold and snow. They have t-shirts from a lot of local places, bars, shops, restaurants and some from outta town, mostly west coast places, If you're like me and want to show you're a fan of a particular place or just want to get a been-there-done-that t-shirt, this is the place. I love vintage stuff.... especially eats and drinks! I used to bowl, fish, drink in dive bars, and my family is from Hawaii .... this places rocks!! If you enter you'll know what I mean! I love to see the designs of the cool eclectic places ....mostly from the west coast. The only problem is that they alway seem to be out of sizes, and the designs are usually only offered in one color. I had very poor experience with online customer service. I've probably bought 5 or 6 shirts from here in the past, but recently ordered a shirt and it shrunk after one wash to the point that it just didn't fit. I sent it back for exchange and got the following reply: "We measured the shirt to one of unwashed large T-Shirts and we found there was no difference. So this is why we have sent it back to you." Not true, it was definitely poor quality and shrunk. Let's look at the exchange policy: "Exchanges on all non-sale merchandise are valid for 90 days after the purchase date, *again no questions asked*. In the case of defect, we'll pay the return shipping as well." So, beware - looks like the quality of shirts has gone downhill and exchange policy is not honored.
