I was put off a bit by this because, although true, it was a very in your face thing to say to someone just entering the store. I was planning on looking for books to purchase but while walking back to that area I heard the employee/owner? Say the same thing two more times in a loud voice to everyone in the store. It was a total turn off. I don't like feeling pressure to buy something to appease a shop owner. If your prices are good and I see what I like I will almost always purchase something. I love supporting local stores but this behavior was over the top and we walked out and so did several other people. I'm sure there are some people who look around because they are bored while waiting for the ferry and while that may be irritating as a shop owner, it is part of business anywhere. If you stand by your product then let people come in and browse without giving a guilt trip to people. We left and went a few stores down and made a purchase at a cute boutique where the owner welcomed us and let us browse and make a purchase without saying anything other than pleasantries.

I found out their store was in Snohomish and set a date to go up and take a visit. All of their pieces were surprisingly affordable and even more beautiful at their Snohomish shop. We ended up purchasing a whole lot of planters, bowls and vases and using them as the centerpieces for our wedding! Everyone loved them and commented how unique each one were. My husband and I now have Bruning pieces all over our home and use the smaller bowls for side dishes or ice cream! So versatile and I don't think I'll ever get rid of them. Looking to expand our collection soon! I've met a sweet lady, Catherine, who's helped me a few times as well as the owner, who took me into the back to pick out some of their top pieces. Upon entering I was greeted by a friendly employee, and when I told her I was new to the hobby she took her time explaining different types of glass, showing me a grinder and giving me some advice about choosing glass for my budget and skill level. She left me to browse but came back to check on me, which I found very thoughtful. I really appreciate that Covenant has a "small projects" section with smaller pieces of glass- perfect for getting a good variety without breaking the bank. A different employee rang up my purchase and was also extremely helpful, friendly, and encouraging. The atmosphere at Covenant was very peaceful and it made me feel at ease. I will definitely be back to buy more glass (and maybe take a class!) at Covenant.

Renate Ruby, shop owner, is basically a curator of craft. She travels to the factories of the furniture lines she represents, for example, so she speaks from the perspective of someone who has really dug in deep to get the know her products from the inside out. Warning: only get her started on the properties of quality linen if you are prepared! That girl knows her stuff. She's scouts out things like small-batch wallpapers and dishware that are not readily available. So that's cool. The other thing I notice about the shop, well check the hours before you drop in, is that there are occasional events that bring people I have never met together, Once, there was a salon-like gathering and the presentation was on perfume. Again, small-batch, hand-crafted product. Because we live in a world that increasingly feels mass-produced (maybe it's my reaction to the myriad of cranes and skyscrapers being build in this SeaTown), it's important to find and share these gems. Without them, what would our world look like? Target and Ikea only? Check it out.
