I can confidently say this is my favorite Thai restaurant in NYC!…read more Living here, you rarely go back to the same restaurant since there is always a new place to try. But, when I found myself thinking about their Gai Yang, Grilled Branzino, pandan coconut cake dessert (aka my fave dessert EVER).. I knew this was a place I'd frequent. The flavors are always hitting and consistent. Staff is extremely attentive. Atmosphere is elevated, without feeling too pretentious and all around feels cozy with the warm tones and light. I went for a birthday once, and they provided complimentary ice cream, and even a hand signed birthday card from the staff. It's the little touches that make this restaurant so great.

First impressions, the ambiance was really nice and service was attentive. Staff here were very friendly and helpful. We ended up ordering the chicken wings which were recommended to us, the pork jowl which we were told was the signature dish, and the sea bass curry. I thought the chicken wings were quite small and wished they were bigger especially since it was stuffed with sticky rice i feel as thought they could've capitalize on the advantage they had to essentially mold this chicken dish. While the sticky rice wasn't a bad pairing, I feel as though it took away from the chicken. I really love a steaming hot tender chicken, but you just can't achieve that with sticky rice filling. The texture diverged from being crispy, tender and juicy--all the main components of a good fried chicken to being more starchy, chewy and less crisp which i found disappointing. The pork jowl i found underwhelming while still good I expected more from a signature dish As for the sea bass curry, i felt as though the curry sauce could've had more depth to the flavor. Rather i found that while it had a nice kick from the spice there wasn't much flavor aside from the spice. Overall, was pretty disappointed. But still glad we tried it!

It's honestly a seafood lover's dream. I highly recommend coming with a large group so you can try a bit of everything. They also offer an option to pay an extra $45 to take your leftovers home, which is absolutely worth it. I ended up with so much food that my fridge is still full. The service was impeccable from start to finish. The staff was attentive, friendly, and made the whole experience even better. I would definitely come back and highly recommend this place to others.

The lobster is a little chewy, but the spicy claws were very flavorful. All of the crab had so much meat and the seasonings were all amazing. Surprisingly, the iron steak was one of our favorites despite this being a seafood spot. The waiter did say to just check mark the paper instead of quantities, but they end up bringing you 2 of everything you order. The sweet & spicy fish is also very solid, garlic noodles were buttery, and even their iced tea was super refreshing. Could not recommend this place more!! Bonus: they play a great 2000s throwback playlist that got us singing along and dancing while we were peeling all our seafood to pass the time. Shoutout to whichever employee put that playlist together!

It does well with doing the whole "fusion" schtick without losing the essence and flavor of the dishes. Pad Krapoa Moo Krob, the meat on the pork belly was so juicy - the pork skin was crunchy and chewy at the same time, flavors of Thai spice, basil, and bell peppers harmoniously working together to bring a balanced meal. The shrimp basil fried rice was delicious, a great alternative if you're not feeling the crab fried rice. The service at Obao is always prompt and helpful, whether it's questions about the menu or recommendations, anyone is willing to help. The hostess stated how she had a long reservation list, but was able to get us right in! Once we sat down, our server, Spaghetti, came over to us. For our entrees, my mother ordered the Pad Thai, and my father and I ordered the Pho Bó. My mom absolutely loved the Pad Thai! The Pho Bó was incredible. The broth was so delectable, and it was honestly the best broth that I have ever had. The portions were also incredible, especially for the price and being in the city! Once we received the check, we noticed that next to the Pho Bó, it stated that it is Michelin Recommended, and we completely understand why! We are looking forward to going back!

Second visit was at the Brooklyn location with my homegirl and we got seated immediately. Service was quick, waiter was attentive. That location is smaller than the Noho one but still a great vibe. We shared the oysters (literally the only place that can get me to eat oysters), some white wine maybe one too many lol and the Choo Chee Scallops. I never knew I needed scallops in a curry paste sauce until now... omg SO good. The sauce alone deserves its own review. Third visit was date night and we shared the crab fried rice (obviously a must), the coconut crab curry, okay I totally get the hype now because it was DELICIOUSSSSS and the pork belly chili garlic. The flavors were amazing, super bold and savory, but we personally didn't care for the pork itself. Still definitely worth trying if you're a pork lover. At this point Fish Cheeks is becoming one of my favorite spots in the city. The food is flavorful, fun to share, and every visit somehow tops the last.

She got here first and grabbed a table for the three of us. The HH isn't bad. The cocktails were a little weak for me - very sweet and juicy, so I switched to bubbles afterwards. Food wise, I was pescatarian at the time, so only tried a few items. The oysters were standard, tho I find it weird they charge you for hot sauce. I'm guessing that was the $1.50 charge listed above since they gave us peppers instead. The prawns were crispy and had good flavor. Service was fine. Our server was attentive and friendly. It was earlier on a weekday and rainy, so the vibe was very chill. The space is very colorful as well. Going to the restroom is like playing roulette. There is one on each side (or maybe two) so it's a gamble as to which one you think will free up first since they are on opposite sides of the resto. Fun spot for HH. REVIEW #4019
