    Chicken Empanada.
    Emma G.

Once I discovered that there was a bakery within 10 blocks of my job with Booty in the name, I had to investigate. I came by here on Thursday for a light lunch and to pick up some pastries for my co-workers. This involved an eventful walk down 8th Avenue highlighted by an SVU set nearby; I of course paused for a few minutes to try to find Mariska but was unsuccessful. Anyway. Not much of a negative, but I WAS a little surprised that that the back of the space wasn't as customer friendly - there's a lot of inventory stacked up, and it's kind of drab. And maybe that's partially because by definition, the front and exterior is VERY much not drab at all - as you'd expect, there's a lot of rainbow colors and cartoon depictions of a guy with his rump sticking out. When you have a theme, you have a theme. But if they have the ability, I'd recommend spiffing up the back area, because if it had been more hospitable I would have taken advantage of it. Since I was pretty hungry, I decided to get an empanada (initially I went with beef but the guy behind the counter recommended chicken since it was fresher and made that day - points for and against there. Appreciate the honesty and pivot (and it WAS fresh), but not great that there are not-fresh empanadas from the prior day prominently displayed. Random food trucks around the city shouldn't have a noticeable edge on a bakery. The empanada was tasty and flavorful, but for the price was actually pretty expensive, and I say that as someone who's grown pretty desensitized to NYC prices. It cost about $5 and I got literally three bites out of it. It should be at least 50% bigger than it is. I also got a guava turnover, which was decent as well. Guava is one of my faves and to me a very underrated filling/flavor, so I'm always glad to see it getting its due. The top of the turnover had sugar granules on it (also something I tend to like for both texture and taste reasons), but it was a little too much - it made the pastry too sugary which I know is a strange complaint for someone who knowingly walked into a bakery. The cupcakes and cookies I got were warmly received by my colleagues and demolished within an hour or two (I got a variety of each), so that's also another positive. I had a hunk of the M&M cookie on my way back, which was slightly undercooked, just the way I liked it. The gentleman who assisted me was perfectly nice (and the chicken empanada recommend is a big selling point) and offered up suggestions on the best options for the variety pack we collated. My only real issue is he didn't provide disclaimers about the bag fees - he offered to put everything in a bag (because why wouldn't you?) only for me to find out when I got rung up that I was charged $0.25 per bag. Now, that's not going to break me but that's more of a principal thing. Tell people when you're assessing additional charges for the choices they're making. Left a bad taste in my mouth that the guava wasn't able to totally fix. I'm probably not coming back here for a big order, nor for an actual meal (even a light one, since I ended up having to buy an emergency hot dog on my way back to the office to fill me up a little more). A random pastry on my travels through Chelsea? Sure. But I think there are better price points out there, strange as that is to say in this inflationary environment. Cool name though.

1 star, less if possible. As longtime customers of Big Booty Bread Co., my friend and I were deeply shocked and disappointed by the treatment we received during our recent visit. We've always appreciated the café for celebrating Latin American culture--but ironically, we were met with hostility simply for speaking Spanish. When my friend placed our order in Spanish, the woman behind the counter immediately shouted, "I don't speak Spanish," and became aggressively rude. She threw our order on the counter and continued yelling at us, creating an incredibly uncomfortable atmosphere. The situation escalated as we were leaving, when she loudly--and falsely--accused us of using a slur, in front of another customer who witnessed the entire thing and was visibly stunned. We left feeling humiliated and completely unwelcome. It's appalling to be treated this way, especially in a business that claims to celebrate Latin American heritage. No one should face aggression for speaking their native language. I sincerely hope the management addresses this woman unacceptable behavior and ensures all customers are treated with respect. P.S. I'll miss the "cortado" and the delicious "pan de bono" but luckily there are other places with better service.

Stopped by Big Booty Bread and tried the red velvet cookie--absolutely delicious and worth the $5. The bakery has a great selection of pastries, drinks, and desserts, so there's definitely something for everyone. Cozy spot and definitely worth checking out if you're in the area.

I've had this place on my list for a while, and am very happy I came out this time! I came here to try the cheese rock or pan de yuca - so chewy and savory. Staff was incredibly friendly and patient, and I will definitely be returning to try some other Columbian pastries!

Yoooooooooooo!!! (X10) I was able to fall upon this gem. I am always trying to find vegan/gluten free pastries &&& boom! The environment is warm and welcoming. Greeted with a smile upon entry. I was shown gluten free section and told a bit of history. 18 years they have been in business like that's lit. Please check them out. I got a gf banana bread muffin and a sweet corn cookie!! Warmed my heart!! Check them out! So much to choose from look for yourself! && the pastries were so damn good soft chewy sweet didn't feel gf to me. Enjoy!

Cute little shop in the heart of Chelsea. Tried the cookie cupcake but was not a fan. Frosting was overly heavy and hard. I liked the concept of it, but I guess the frosting did not consider the extra sweetness from the cookie itself.

I was able to get three cupcakes at a discounted price. The cupcakes were delicious. However they are too expensive. I'd give this place 4 stars if they were cheaper. Hard to justify their price tag imo. They are good but nothing special.

Big bootie bakery seemed like a gimmicky joke every time I would pass by it and see the funny sign but then I decided to try it. On my first visit I got a chocolate marshmallow cupcake. The cupcake was disappointing as the chocolate part was dry and lacking flavor. My opinion changed after my 2nd visit when I tried their guava pastry, it was flaky and stuffed with delicious guava. After that my friend and I have returned many times and my absolute favorite is the chocolate brownie. The brownie is absolute perfection, it's so good that I can myself getting a big bootie/belly since it's so addicting.

There was a bit of a line, but it moved pretty quickly. I am boring, so I just ordered the plain vanilla cupcake, but it was just perfect. It was fresh and the cake itself was wonderful. So there is a lot to unpack from my visit to SoHo to pick up a cake from my sister. I woke up at…read more5pm and headed straight here from Queens and chose this place over 4 others close by in the area. I hadn't been here in years so when I pulled up I took a step back to take it all in, the cutesy interior which was clean and not too brightly lit. I checked out the cake prices and flavors and when I was sure of what I wanted I stepped up to the counter and began to take pictures bc there were like 4 attendants and I waited for one to engage with me. A young man did he said are you ready to order I said yes and told him I wanted a strawberry shortcake slice $10 and a Brooklyn black out slice (also $10 and the actual reason I came). When he was boxing I took pictures and thought oh maybe I should switch to the hostess slice (out loud). Another attendant said sure, but then the first one pulled up with the boxes and I was like ok I'll just get a cupcake separate. Why I walk back to the cupcakes to choose and the young man starts helping someone new and I look him in the eye he then rushes over but again starts taking another customer. They were 3 customers in the store in total including me so why he didn't want to provide me service I do not know. But it made me so upset I was like wow am I really gonna spend this much money and this guy is being rude. I had to now get in line behind the 2 other patrons that came in after me. The attendant who rung me up tried to empathize and offered me a free $1 candle- it came from a cup of candle in front of the register and when he placed it on top of the box it rolled onto the counter and I said how many ppl touched that?? It's going in a cake someone is going to eat. I declined the candle, paid and probably will never return. Strawberry shortcake slice was a 6/10 tasted old Hostess cupcake 10/10 I inhaled it no crumbs Brooklyn blackout cake 15/10 moist, thick chocolate perfect. Now I'll tell you right now the birthday cake I got my sister was worth the $25 and change I paid for it. She liked it, I liked it, it made her happy- but the service made me frown I really didn't like it. Total rating 3.5

So fun fact they are now advertising Banana Pudding Hot Chocolate and it is NOT actual hot chocolate but banana pudding made to taste like hot chocolate. Why I got so confused? I don't know! Maybe I have been watching too many videos about Tyra Banks Hot Ice Cream. Either way I appreciate the guys patience and kindness when explaining it to me twice especially because I did not end up ordering that at all (though it sounds interesting) but I did get the regular actual hot chocolate and it was amazing! It tasted like melted marshmallows were in it! Perfect for a cold winter day. In addition we got to the humming bird cake, a cupcake, and the regular banana pudding. My husband had never been here before so you know we had to get the banana pudding, it's their claim to fame. And it is decent. Growing up in North Carolina banana pudding is taken very seriously and is literally at every gathering. Would this be a contender for the cookout? Sure! I have no complaints about. The other baked items were delicious as well. The store is cute unfortunately this location has no indoor seating but plenty of outdoor. It was like negative degrees when we went so we definitely did not sit outside. All and all it's a cute bakery/ sweets shop. There are many locations through out the city. I've been to others and it is consistent. It's definitely not a bad dessert spot to try.

Another employee, Kirk--an older gentleman who looked completely out of place--approached and coughed directly over the slice of cake that had just been cut for me. Yes. Over it. At that moment, I honestly wondered if it was intentional. A young woman nearby immediately caught my reaction and went to the back to replace the slice. She handled the situation professionally and deserves recognition. Unfortunately, the chaos continued. Kirk later made me a hot cocoa, and when I went to drink it, it spilled on me because the lid wasn't secured properly. At that point, I stopped believing in coincidences. And the cake? The German chocolate cake was terrible--dry AF and nothing like the Grand Central location. Not even remotely close. Between the coughing, the spill, and the subpar cake, this visit was uncomfortable, messy, and disappointing. Magnolia should seriously reconsider who they put on the floor and retrain accordingly--because this location is not living up to the brand. But honestly, I believe the 2 guys had to be the owners. While the presentation was 10/10 across the board, the flavors ranged from "nostalgic perfection" to "a bit of a letdown." Devil Dog (The Winner): This was by far my favorite. It was a trip down memory lane, perfectly capturing that nostalgic Hostess chocolate cupcake flavor I loved as a kid. Lemon Raspberry Meringue: Coming in a close second, this cupcake was bright, fruity, and incredibly fresh. It felt light and offered a great balance to the richer flavors in the box. Ube: This cupcake was stunning to look at. However, the flavor didn't quite live up to the exotic profile of a purple yam; it tasted like a traditional vanilla cupcake that just happened to be purple. Great for the aesthetic, but standard in taste. Hummingbird: This was the only real disappointment. I was expecting the signature tropical punch of pineapple, but it lacked that acidity. Instead, it felt more like a simple banana nut muffin with icing on top. Final Verdict: Overall, the experience was positive. The shop clearly has a talent for decor and nostalgia. I'd definitely return for the Devil Dog and the Lemon Raspberry, but I might skip the Hummingbird next time. Last Note: The woman working in the bakery was a bit rude and had an attitude and that alone will make me not com back no matter how good the cupcakes are.
