A friend and I stumbled upon this bakery on a walk in NYC. We love the peanut butter, double chocolate chip and while chocolate chip cookies. My husband visited NYC for a work trip, and since we live in Hawaii where there aren't many low-carb options, so I decided to take the opportunity to explore healthy protein bakeries. I came across the Protein Bakery, and it was amazing! Siljian was extremely helpful (thanks again!) While they don't offer Uber delivery, I was able to arrange a delivery through Uber Packages to my husband hotel, and it worked out perfectly. On Thursday I finally got to try their protein cookies and brownies and wow, they were AMAZING! I am also a T1D, and they did not spike my blood sugar at all (bonus points!) I randomly decided to stop by with no prior knowledge of this store-just because I saw protein + bakery ??? Walking in there were lots of sweets and was welcomed by an employee who explained the gist of everything! I am not usually a fan of sweets but I decided to try the chocolate brownie and lemon bar which were so good. The employee offered to warm them up which I highly recommend and was a perfect treat to walk in the cold! I did not taste any weird aftertaste and genuinely tasted like a normal brownie! I walked by THE PROTEIN BAKERY last week and it looked cute and inviting, so I went in to check it out. First off the place smelled amazing, I got an immediate "Hello & Welcome" from a gentleman (that I later found out was the owner) and immediately started searching. So many amazing flavors and varieties to choose from! The owner immediately came over to assist me and I said anything without tree nuts (he understood and told me only the Pumpkin have nuts) I was in heaven. Very hard to find bakery products nowadays days without almonds or walnuts sitting on top. He recommended a few of the mini brownies and I ended up with 3 amazing flavors. They even offer to heart your item up for you. WINNER! Because of the quality of the brownie, amazing taste and leaving me crazy for more, oh and the care for customers..I will be back. I'll start by saying that I've been wanting to come here for a long time (2 months). I'll start with the service: Siljian, who's one of the two people who work in the store (the other being the owner) is extremely nice and super knowledgeable about the product. He explained the difference between the items on the menu and the different bakery goods that they had. He was really patient and answered all my questions, which was much appreciated. The store itself is super clean, there's enough lighting and the space is utilized effectively. I love the vibe because it felt like a special bakery! Now the product itself. I only purchased blondies. I bought two large, and two small and Siljian threw in the pumpkin for free. The coconut walnut chocolate chip one was absolutely amazing. When a customer walks into your tiny store front and asks a direct ? as I did I expect a direct and more importantly honest answer. When I saw the lower sugar options on offer I immediately asked to know what the sugar substitute was and the immediate response I got was "Stevia". What a crock! Normally I scour ingredient lists of all high protein products but you guys have been around for years now and I had know reason to think I would be blatantly lied to by the sole employee in the place. Not only was that a lie but the #1 ingredient on the list of the almond brownie I purchased was the worst sugar substitute imaginable with absolutely ZERO disclosure of the potential side affects. I guess your just a far more superior company to Hersheys and all the other global food brands that do use it and provide clear warnings of its potentail side affects. I guess you are just too good and above them to do so as well. You are supposedly selling a premium product at almost $7 for a pre-packaged brownie and instead of using a quality product like Stevia you use the cheapest and unhealthiest sweetener imaginable. Bought a bunch of stuff online with a friend. The lemon bar tasted good which was surprising if full of protein, too good to be true? Yup macros had more sugar than protein. Only smaller bars had nutrition break down to look at. It's like I made brownies n added a lil bit of whey protein powder ‍ About a month later was in NYC n popped in to see other products and ask about lower sugar with still high protein(the literal name of the biz). Was met with lots of defensive, sarcastic responses... I could tell I wasn't the only one who asked about the name of the store and it not matching the product as one would think...I would assume all products have protein as the main macro, but nope. Also low sugar ones had maltitol as the sugar sub As much as I wanted them to be a leader in healthier baked goods and buy another $50-100 worth, I was let down. I hope they are more into open conversation next time a customer comes in to chat and not just put up a defensive/sarcastic wall up. read more

Can I leave six stars??? I've been enjoying these amazing Nom Noms since before Stephen even had a storefront. The peanut butter chocolate chip cookies are my favorite! I now live in South Florida and was pleasantly surprised at how quickly and easily I was able to order an assortment and have it arrive to my house. They were packaged so beautifully that I decided to order a couple of boxes to send over to Jupiter Medical Center where I was treated in the emergency room last week. A great gift to send to first responders or anyone just to let them know you care during these crazy times we live in. I've been wanting to try this place out for awhile now. Only tried one thing from here so far so this is more of a first impression! I chose to get the low sugar Almond Brownie. You can eat it as is or you can get it warmed up or frozen! I got it warmed and have to say, it is pretty good! It is not as dense or oily as a regular brownie but still has some weight to it. It tasted like a more cakey brownie than fudgy. It was not overwhelming of that protein powder taste which I have experienced with other high protein foods. It was 150 calories for 1/2 but I just went all out and ate the whole thing (still not bad as usually brownies are like 400-500 calories) I did notice that the first ingredients were Maltitol and butter. Would not say this is exactly the healthiest but definitely a healthier option if you're craving something sweet! There were a selection of different kinds of cookies, brownies, and a cake ( single serve available in a to go cup). They also have 2 low sugar brownies and a low sugar oatmeal cookie option. The interior is nice and bright. Staff was helpful and gave me the low down of the products. Will be trying the other treats as well! read more

I've been picking up their products here and there at random stores and smoothie/coffee shops, but so happy to realize there's an actual dedicated storefront where I can stock up to my heart's content! Products are DELICIOUS and make me feel less guilty about having a ravenous sweet tooth. Brownies, blondies, etc, are as good as any bakery offering. In fact, I prefer these over regular sweets since I don't get an overwhelming "punch in the face" sugar hit followed by the inevitable crash. Plus I find smaller portions satisfying due to the protein content. I'm not keto or super low carb so can't comment about falling out of ketosis, but from the perspective of someone just trying to lower sugar intake I can definitely feel a difference in how my energy spikes/falls with full sugar baked good versus these. The vegan peanut butter cookies are SO GOOD. I wish they could find a way to make their sweets lower in fat, but for keto folks, this is heaven on earth! Low-sugar would be great if it wasn't using maltitol which is proven to spike blood sugar almost as high as real sugar. I dropped in on this empty store this Wednesday afternoon while running errands. There was a man sitting behind the counter who greeted me. I was curious as to what the store sold. What drew me in was the little sidewalk sign advertising high protein items. I asked the man what his lower carb items were and he curtly responded "we don't focus on that" and that "we use real ingredients like sugar, eggs, flour". I asked him one or two other questions, thanked him and left. As I walked down the street, I text a friend about this rather unfriendly encounter at this protein bakery. She pointed me to the reviews on Yelp. It so happens there ARE some lower carb/lower sugar items. In addition to the "real ingredients" the man emphasized they used, they also use malitol, which most would not consider a "real ingredient". BTW, I have zero problem with malitol. It's just a sugar substitute. I just have issue with the gentleman telling me in a curt manner, "we only use real ingredients like sugar, eggs, flour". To add further insult, I went on their website and confirmed there is a low-ish carb /low sugar brownie (13g) that they offer. I had said to the guy in the store something like, "So, most of the items are in the 20grams carb wise?" He responded with a yes. 13g is much lower than 20g and I would have purchased that to try. I think the owner should have a chat with their store clerk and maybe train him to be a little bit more friendly and knowledgeable of what's being sold. After all, I would have purchased the item but with such an unfriendly attitude and a dismissive tone I'd rather spend my money elsewhere. read more

If you are keto stay far away from this place. The first ingredient in all of their so called 'keto friendly' options is MALTITOL. Maltitol has been shown to spike insulin levels even higher than regular table sugar and is essentially an easy way to make the nutrition labels look 'low sugar' or 'keto friendly' while still using what is essentially sugar. Very dangerous to falsely advertise products as low sugar when using mostly maltitol, especially for diabetic customers. I understand that Maltitol is much cheaper than most low carb sweetners but please consider switching to erythritol, stevia, sucralose, allulose, or monk fruit. read more

I stopped in on my way to an apartment showing -- I hadn't had dinner and wanted something both sweet and moderately filling. The people working there (owners maybe?) were super nice and gave me a run down of the offerings -- they have a low sugar and regular section with detailed description of the baked good "families". They didn't rush me at all even though it was close to (or maybe past?) closing. I got the birthday cake blondie (soooo good. and not too sweet) and the chocolate chocolate cookie (also really good). The guy behind the counter offered to heat them up for me but I was already running late so ate them without heating (they were still really good.) If you are on keto, stay away from the keto options. Maltitol can easily knock you out of ketosis. So dissapointed

First ingredient Maltitol or regular sugar. High GI about the same as sugar but also gives you gas. If you are on keto or are diabetic watch out. wow i just got the benefits of maltitol great cool and chocolate has antioxidants and will prevent cancer! No. Maltitol is one of the cheapest sweeteners you can use and with such a high glycemic index it does not make it any better than pure sugar. It is equivalent to going to a gas station and buying sugar free candy which is sweetened with Maltitol. Great that it has high protein but you get the negatives of raising blood sugar. It is no different than eating an actual baked good and drinking a protein shake after. For granted, everyone should read the nutrition label but this kind of cheating. Educate yourself about your sugar intake. read more

For being a fitness professional and foodie, I'm really ashamed to admit that I didn't know this store existed until a few days ago. I'm probably going to be a regular at this place now. I had the double chocolate chip cookies and they were chewy goodness. Perfect for your sweet tooth while providing some extra protein. Each mini cookie was 130 calories and 5 or 6 grams of protein. That's pretty good for a yummy dessert. If you really need a treat, this is a good one to not feel so guilty afterwards. The store is filled to the brim with different treats. The worst service. Came in with my dog to pick up a couple of brownies. The solo salesperson seemed more unhappy than happy to see me there. My dog nudged a few boxes and left some wet paw prints due to the wet sidewalk just outside the store on an otherwise dry day. A small but friendly spot to get protein-based snacks. I'm usually skeptical in snacks that use protein as they tend to be very grainy or flaky or just lacking in taste but this place proved me wrong. It's a clean, modern-looking hole in the wall and has brownies, blondies and cookies. My favorite is the Black and White Blondie as it's not overly sweet or grainy and the addition of the chocolate chips makes it even better.
