Cookie crawl review! Chocolate chip cookie has gooey with melted chocolated chips in the middle. Very buttery

    Anna-Kay B.

The cookies here are out of this world--sweet, crispy, and incredibly flavorful. I'll admit, I was a little hesitant when I first arrived. I came later in the day, and the flavors I usually gravitate toward were already sold out. With less than a 10-hour itinerary in New York City, this stop initially didn't feel like it would make the cut. But after multiple flight delays heading back to Florida, this bakery became my must-try wish. I only regret not coming earlier. I ended up getting the Peanut Butter Miso cookie, and wow...I wish I had bought the last two. When I went back for another, they were already sold out. If I'm ever back in New York City, I have to return here. No question.

Pumpkin olive oil loaf cake and chocolate banana bread loaf . Crazy sweet

I was excited to try a bakery I haven't been to. On my way back home I made a stop at Red Gate. There was no wait and lots of options were available. The cookies looked a little dry to me so I opted for a rich and moist cake loaf. Two flavors - chocolate banana bread and pumpkin olive oil loaf. I tried the pumpkin first and it was insanely sweet. Mind you I got home and made a tea to go with the baked goods but I still couldn't handle the sweetness. After a few bites I gave up. The texture was great but sugar level is too high. I don't think I'll be coming back here sorry..

Saw a line. I stood in line. The decision was good. Cookies are crispy and chewy just the way I like them. Prices aren't too bad at around $5.00 per cookie. My partner ordered a lime bar, and it was not too sweet and not too tart. I am not too fond of overly sweet goods, and I was pleasantly surprised at how controlled the sugar level here was. Anything here would pair well with a hot cocoa, coffee, tea, damn it, even water.

WHEN: Thur @12:30pm When I cam here the first time, they were already out of their infamous CHOCOLATE TOFFEE COOKIE ($4), which is the only reason I made the long trek for! So I came back later that week, only a bit earlier in the day, and snagged up on! The cookie was good, and even better warmed up. But sadly, I do not really taste the toffee bits. Perhaps it was already really baked/melted into the dough. Anyhow, it's still a solid cookie!

The service here was great. The iced oat meal and chocolate chip cookies here were very good. The slice of the day was pecan pie and it tasted exactly like that in cake form. The shop wasn't very big was full of great options.

I've seen this bakery often and finally had a chance to visit. There was no wait when I went during the middle of the day. I ordered the PB miso and the chocolate toffee cookie. The PB Miso was my favorite. It was a great combination of salty and sweet. I've definitely heard they usually have long lines. It's a small shop with only one table for seating outside. Really soft and chewy cookies and overall have always heard good things about all their baked goods.

This was a little bit of a letdown for me since I've heard so many good things about the pastries here. Came on a Saturday afternoon and although there was a line out the door (keep in mind. It is extremely small and there) it did move fast since there are no tables or really any places to wait once you get your pastry. I ordered a slice of the carrot cake and my friends ordered a bagel cookie and the brownie and specifically speaking for the carrot cake, it was very dry to the point that I didn't even finish half of it because not even the icing could save it from how dry the cake was. I asked my friends how their pastries were, and they also were not amazed by them and thought it was a little try as well. I don't know if it was just an off day or what was going on, but I was very disappointed and do not think I will be rushing back here.

Back again! I had been thinking about the brown butter blondies since the last time I had come in and was really craving it. These truly were a dream. The nutty flavor from the brown butter paired with the pecans and brown sugar was truly to die for. Blondies always have felt like they were missing something and thats because they were - they need brown butter. Simply perfection. The confetti cooking was the brightest thing in the show case so naturally I need one. It was delicious as well. A soft buttery cookie covered in sprinkles - how could you go wrong. The spiced and ice oatmeal cookie had the perfect oatmeal cookie texture. It was slightly too spiced for me personally, but it really was the whole package. The oreo unfortunately was a miss. It tasted stale to me unfortunately. I will be back for more of those delicious blondies ! I came in on a Wednesday around lunchtime and I was the only customer in the bakery. Service was quick and friendly.

Red gate has some of the best pastries! We truly enjoyed their seasonal options, which were the pumpkin loaf, it was extremely the frosting was amazing. The banana bread was also a huge hit. The cream cheese frosting was unlike anything I've had before. One of the best bakeries in the east village!!! Have previously tried their cookies which were pretty decent.

I had to update my review as I finally was able to try the Cinnamon Bun! The rich, fluffy dough with its tender texture is perfectly paired with a sweet cinnamon brown sugar filling. However, when you take that next bite with the velvety, creamy icing, it's a heavenly combination! It will most definitely satisfy your deepest cravings with a decadent, delightful warmth! It's a must try!

One of my all time favorite bakeries in NYC! I have tried most of their treats and you really can't go wrong with anything from here. Their treats range from classic to creative and are always executed to the highest degree. If I had to pick favorites though, I'd say the midnight banana bread, malted lime bar and caramel brownie. I recently worked with them on a custom birthday cake and the whole process was so easy and seamless. Greg was a pleasure to work with and really took my favorite flavors and ran with them. Together we decided on a brown butter banana cake, with salted caramel filling, cream cheese frosting and covered in cinnamon and sugar. It was oh so tasty! They also do a special cake flavor by the slice as well as a specialty cinnamon roll on the weekend. It's hard to resist going once I see the flavor - every week is better than the last. I must try the Dubai chocolate cake slice soon. I run there anytime they have anything corn flavored too. Red Gate Bakery keep doing what you're doing, we love you and appreciate you.

WOW THIS PLACE IS SO GOOD. I don't really dig thin cookies but this one was perfectly sweet and salty and chewy and soft. Not that gooey but that's okay. Def one of my top in the city. The midnight banana bread was SO moist and decadent and chocolatey. I loved it. I've also tried one of their rhubarb cinnamon buns and it was good. Super soft and fluffy I'm not sure it was the best I've ever had but it was good. Would love to try other flavors. The staff here is always so lovely and friendly. Beware they do sell out of items almost daily - so come early. Super cool that they have a specialty bun and cake every week.

Went to the Flatiron store both times and didn't have to wait long to order. The staff were great and packed all of the little cakes nicely so that they survived the trek back to our condo. Mango--all around favorite, wound up buying like 4 of these cause half my friends preferred it and I liked it a surprising amount Blueberry--very mild, no tartness, not too sweet with good blueberry flavor Orange--fresh and orangey in the middle, loved this one Pear--reminds me of cinnamon apples (I guess this was cinnamon pears), which isn't my favorite flavor but others enjoyed Banana--made me sad cause I LOVE banana flavored stuff and this just... wasn't? It had old tasting banana paste in the middle assuming because it's real banana and not artificial, is tiny, and didn't taste good Yuzu--nice yuzu flavor and disappeared fast Cloud--forgot the actual name and apparently didn't take a picture, it had chocolate/hazelnut mousse with some sort of caramel and something crunchy, also delicious All of the petit gateaus were on the mild side which is a big plus for me. Appearance was top notch and the balance of cream to filling on point. I'd like to try some of the other pastries next time for sure.

Hands down the best thing to try is the mango (so flavorful and some parts feel cold like ice cream) and I also really liked the pistachio. Cloud is safe, Not too sweet and it's soft mousse. Yuzu (the flower dessert) had a hard rice cake under it which I was not a fan on. Everytime I have gone, the lien move pretty fast. Seating is whatever table you can find. Though pricey, and probably why I will not return, they make one tasty breakfast sandwich. It might even outdo Panera! If only I could see how it is made rather than just wrapped and packaged for me, with me assuming they just took a pre-packaged sandwich and heated it up. I really hope they do not do that. The taste of it tells me they do not, but I have to surmise. I also got a hot chocolate, which is super rich. It is not super hot, but if you are not careful you could have an accident on the sidewalk because of the milk they use. Drink it slow and steady. Or pace yourself between sips. Do not let the body recognize this is full of the things that make bowel movements happen. Thankfully, I held my ground. They also sell crullers. I love a good cruller. Choux pastry donuts full of rich flavor, without all the density of an actual donut. This one may be too rich. It is also quite expensive. Nearby Donut Pub does a better job with them. I had to be careful eating this. Being careful and knowing how much it cost to get a breakfast here are what keep it a three star review. However, their offerings will keep you out of the cold and give you strengths on days you need to be picked up.
