I got a chopped beef bbq sandwich and chips. My team got a pulled pork sandwich, brisket tacos, Mac and cheese, and beans. We also had peach cobbler, fried okra, and cornbread muffins. We all cleaned our plates and was looking forward to coming back! The portion sizes are generous and the flavor hits. My secret to knowing GOOD bbq is to eat some with out sauce and if it still good - it's a winner. I ate quite a few bites without anything extra so that should say something! Came on a Friday at lunch. I was surprised to see that it wasn't crowed at all. Had the pulled pork sammy with candied bacon with potato salad side. Sammy was delicious. I'm a self professed fat girl and I normally eat all of the food on my plate even when it's not necessarily good. I pay for it and don't like trashing it BUT....I ordered wings and fried okra from Off the Bone, ended up picking over the items and ultimately trashing. The dry rub was good and that's it. Meat of the wings was hard and difficult to pull "off the bone" Too many pieces of the okra was hard and "splintery" (my best explanation). I catered the family meal for Mother's Day. We had a slab of ribs, a pound of brisket, pulled pork, beef sausage, and a whole chicken. And the sides were the spicy, honey beans, potato salad and Mac n cheese. The ribs fell off the bone and were very savory but most importantly not salty. The brisket was absolute perfection. The pulled pork was a little salty but not too salty to consume. The beef sausage was mouth watering delicious! I don't normally like the sausage but I believe this one is made in house because it has a unique taste that could not be produced in a factory. The chicken was very tasty but a little dry. As for the sides the Mac n cheese has tomatoes and I believe chives, and it was also a little spicy. Personally I have never had Mac n cheese with anything other than cheese so not a favorite. The potato salad was very tasty but also a little spicy. The honey and spice beans were delicious but not spicy. Oh I forgot about the rolls, the rolls are wheat with savory butter and delicious! Wait there's more, for dessert we had the triple pecan chocolate cake, do yourself a favor and pick two of these up, they are amazing. The pound cake was moist and delicious. I did not get a chance to try the peach cobbler because my Mother devoured it so it must have been delicious as well. Now why did I only give it four stars, well, the staff wasn't very friendly, not rude but in my opinion when you walk into a restaurant you should be greeted and when you leave you should be acknowledged with a thank you come again or something to that affect. I heard Off the Bones is a good comp to Pecan Lodge minus the long lines. Since I enjoyed Pecan Lodge, this place was a must! We arrived around 11:30ish and they only had 2 other tables. You place your order on the counter, pay and they call you when is ready. Our cashier (server?) was very friendly and helpful offering some suggestions. The food was very good all around, the atmosphere is simple and clean, service was attentive and quick. It was everything I expected it to be. I would definitely go back next time I'm in Dallas. So I opted for the 1 meat with 2 sides meal and got the chicken, green beans and potato salad which comes with a roll. The chicken was ok. Not terrible but not great. I was excited that it appeared to be seasoned well but, for me, it didn't taste as good as it looked. I reached for the bbq sauce and that didn't help much either. Honestly I'm not a sauce person but if I do use it, I prefer for it to be thicker. I will say the sides were the stars. It's probably the first bbq place I visited where the sides tasted better than the meat. Potato salad was on point (just missing an unnecessary/necessary sprinkle of paprika) and the green beans had all the flavor I was seeking. Just also wish the roll was white and not wheat. Wheat is my thing but when eating bbq, you might as well go full on unhealthy. Tastes better. They seemed to have a nice flow of customers, all ordering ribs and brisket presumably. While visiting Dallas I wanted to try some Texas BBQ. Well more than one person pointed me in the direction of Off the Bone Barbecue. My family and I entered a clean parking lot in the industrial part of town and we were greeted with good customer service once we entered the BBQ establishment. We all got 2 or 3 meat BBQ plates that did not take long to get at our table. They have self serve sweet and unsweetened tea as well as a Pepsi product fountain machine. I got dark meat chicken and brisket. Both are delicious with just the right amount of smoke mixed with seasonings. The bbq beans weren't too sweet and let me know they were not fresh out of a can. The Macaroni and Cheese was different since it seemed to have bell peppers in it I believe, but it was tasty. I'm not a bbq sauce fan but I did notice that the bbq sauce at this restaurant was a vinegar base and it was just right, not too sweet or spicy. The fried okra was superb and seasoned to perfection. To top it off the owner even stepped out of his office to make sure we enjoyed our food. I plan to visit this spot again and again. If you're in Dallas and want bbq you should do the same. read more

Decided to try a new BBQ spot( typically I'm at Terry Blacks). Ordered the pulled pork ( other reviewers recommended), ribs, and the con queso Mac n cheese. Oh wow! - this Mac and cheese is all that. I'm only sad I got one serving of it. It has a slight bit of a kick( but it's subtle) and it's so delicious. They have inside seating, but it appeared that they were only doing take out- basing this on the fact that they put everything in a takeout bag- lol. The brisket is really good four out of five stars, the ribs are fall off the bone moist but have a little smoky flavor I would give them a two out of five. $14 you get 1 pint of sides most barbecue restaurants it's six dollars. I got the potato salad it was homemade but very little flavor and I got the three meat spicy beans which once again very little flavor. But any Texas barbecue restaurant knows better than to serve instant tea yes they have instant tea they don't even have real brewed Texas ice tea, and to add insult to injury the only size cups they have are 12 ounces and they charge you $2.50! Omg! And then on top of it I got a pound of brisket and a half pound of ribs and they gave me two small sample sizes of barbecue sauce, not cool. Above average brisket but the rest is below average and the containers that I got for the beans spilt all over so it was a total waste of $10. I came to Off the Bone on a Saturday afternoon, which happened to be the last day of black history month. I love to support black owned business and I love bbq. So I decided to come to Off the Bone, because I knew it was black owned bbq restaurant close to downtown Dallas. I've been to this restaurant before, but this was one of the best experiences I've had at a bbq restaurant in general, so I thought it deserved a review. My friend and I pulled up to Off the Bone and we instantly felt the presence of great food as we grasp a wisp of the bbq smoke. Next we walked inside and the restaurant was had a vibe. There was an assortment of customers, the soul music was blasting, the tables were clean, and the sun splashed all through the buildings many windows. We walked up to the counter to order and we were greet by cast of staff who were trying to make sure we ordered the right meal. As a bbq enthusiast I had to order the essential three-brisket, ribs, and sausage-so we order the three meat plate with two sides and two drinks. We were advised that all the sides were good, but we decided on the Mac and cheese and the sweet beans. All for a reasonable price around twenty dollars. Next we grabbed are drinks and we found a seat next to windows. Soon after we grab or seats and just before we started our conversation, the food arrived. When the food arrived, every piece of meat and each side were piping hot. Nothing is better than having hot food arrive under record times. I have five different first bites-each meat and side-and each bite was as good as the previous. The ribs were tastefully smoke and they literally fell off the bone, hence the name "Off the bone." The sausage were simple but quite tasty with a little splash of bbq sauce. The brisket was tender, smoky, and the highlight of the plate, to the extent we almost had to fight for the last piece. Then the side. The sides were just as good as the meats. The three sides were honey spiced baked beans, con queso mac and cheese, and a complimentary roll. Each side deserves their respective conversation, starting with the Mac and cheese. This con queso Mac and cheese is what any cheese love aspires to see. Seeing a oven baked cheese crusting with small additions or tomatoes and peppers looks like a cheesy masterpiece. Additionally the taste could win over any foodie with flavorful spices and distintivo cheese. Next the honey spice baked beans will make you want to lick the bowl, because these beans had just the perfect amount of brown sugar and spices to satisfy your taste buds. Last, the roll was a perfect treat to finish the plate. The roll was sweet and soft enough to eat alone or good enough to pile on meat and sauce for a little bbq slider. Off the Bone defies expectations of a great bbq experiences. At other bbq restaurants, I've experience bad, cool sides and the same regarding the meat. That has yet to happen here. Went there for the first time with my cousins. Our waitress seemed kind of clueless about everything that was going on. When being asked simple questions about the menu it was either "I don't know. Maybe. I'm not sure" could've at least said "let me find out". The food: I ordered the hot link sandwich. Which was great but the way they cut the meat makes it fall off the sandwich a lot when you try to bite into it. They cut the meet in small circles instead of long ways like a hot dog. And I feel it'd be better in a hot dog bun or something. But it was good even though it took a lot of effort to keep picking up the circular pieces of meat and putting it back in there. The Okra was excellent. Didn't really care for the potato salad as they're not like the southern recipe of mash potatoes with the mustard and everything mixed in. The sauce along with the bbq sauce you can add has a little bit of a kick --- together they can be quite a spicy kick if you don't like spicy. For the potato salad if you grew up with Big Mama making it with mustard, relish and such --- you will love this.
