    It's SOMEBODY'S birthday!
    Greg B.

JD's BBQ and Grill is an interesting place. First off, if you are a smoked meat BBQ snob such as I am, you may be disappointed. I was expecting something along the lines of Lockhart's, Pecan Lodge or Baby Back Shak. JD's is not in this vein of BBQ. Having said that, I have had the baby back ribs and the BBQ 1/2 chicken and found it excellent. The BBQ here is reminiscent of that old standby Tony Roma's.........and there's a reason for that. Talking with the owner/chef on my last visit here, he divulged that he worked for Tony Roma's for 16 years cranking out their BBQ. That covers the BBQ part of JD's BBQ and Grill. The grill part offers a variety of offerings including grilled salmon, fish tacos, grilled chicken and a very tasty grilled chicken salad. The service all three times I have been here has been EXTRAORDINARY. This is truly a family-run business and everyone on duty bends over backwards to ensure your satisfaction. They are friendly and genuinely concerned with your dining experience. There is ample dining space and the atmosphere is family-casual. They have space out front for sidewalk dining and taking in the atmosphere of Jefferson Ave. Overall, I like this joint......a lot. But, that being said, I have a couple of nits to pick. The fries have been hit or miss when I have had them. The space and the atmosphere of the dining room seems a bit spare and barren. One wall has pictures of the family and assorted flair; but, the other wall is bare. The biggest nit is that the whole "concept" seems unfinished or unformed......like they are still figuring it all out. I am confident that after a little more time, they will find their true concept and express it. I think JD's is an excellent place to grab a good meal at a REASONABLE price point.

Combo - ribs & brisket with lentils & sweet potato fries $15

Family owned place, friendly staff but that cambo tested just ok. Brisket was ok but there was no bark on it, the ribs as you can see on the picture had bones shown & could have been crispy. Lentils were ok but the sweet potatoes fries were very greasy. The cambo was $15.

This is the best BBQ I've had in over a decade! The ribs were so tender and juicy. The meat fell off the bone. The pulled pork sandwich was amazing! I can't believe that everyone in DFW isn't flocking to JD's BBQ and Grill!

Strictly average food. The restaurant is not a smokehouse even though the name says barbecue. Our server was very nice and helpful.

No BBQ here except for the sauce. The sliced brisket is tough and doesn't taste like BBQ but rather baked. Not even worth one star.

We came here on a whim. A last-minute brunch decision. Nothing planned. No expectations. And what…read morefollowed was a core memory in three courses and a complimentary Bloody Mary shot accompanied by the cutest green olive. The moment we walked in, it felt like home, but not in the "kick off your shoes" way. No, this was the "you're safe here, baby" kind of home. The vibe? Cozy. Elevated. Like Restoration Hardware met someone emotionally stable. Elliott was our server and an absolute delight. Joseph was the manager, casually spreading joy like Oprah with a tray of Bloody Mary shots. Amber... now let me pause here, because this woman deserves a paragraph of her own. Amber isn't just a GM. She's the kind of soul you meet once and never forget. When I asked for her to come to our table just to pay her a compliment, we both practically teared up. She received it with open arms, no ego, no deflection, just pure, gracious presence. I was mid-sentence and suddenly I had that Creed song stuck in my head. You know the one. "With arms wide open..." That's the kind of energy she brought to the entire restaurant. Amber made every person in that room feel like they mattered. Not because it's her job, but because it's who she is. She's fresh off earning her master's in hospitality, and if that degree came with a crown, she's wearing it. The Porch doesn't just run smoothly. It runs on Amber energy. But let's talk about the moment I saw God. Cornbread Eggs Benedict: Not crab. Not salmon. Corn. Bread. And not just any cornbread. The softest, fluffiest, most cuttable cloud of golden glory I've ever had the pleasure of annihilating with a fork. A fork, not a steak knife. Do you understand how rare that is? Normally I'm out here sawing through an English muffin like I'm in a lumberjack competition. This? Melted like butter. Tasted like a hug. 12/10. Incredible. And then, as if the eggs benny enlightenment wasn't enough, Joseph reappears with a tray of free Bloody Mary shots for the entire restaurant. With olives. For everyone. The joy? Immediate. The energy? Electric. The crowd? Unified. I watched a grandmother at the next table raise her glass like the queen she is. I nearly cried. This wasn't service. This was a masterclass in human connection. Restaurants can be transactional. Robotic. This was the opposite. This was care, intention, soul. My high school principal once said: "The difference between ordinary and extraordinary is that little bit of extra." The Porch brought extra, bagged it, garnished it, and served it on a tray. Final thought: If you're not brunching here, I'm concerned. If you are? I'll raise my Bloody Mary shot to you. And Amber, if you ever run for mayor, you've already got my vote. I'll run your campaign and show up in a custom t-shirt.

We ordered 2 bottles of champagne and 1 Bloody Mary and it took over 16 minutes to arrive and we had to remind him 2 times. He never brought us water. At first, I was a little hesitant because the menu is fairly small, but after my meal, I can see why. Every dish we ordered was absolutely a 10/10. I had the chicken with greens and shrimp fried rice, along with the fried green tomatoes and cornbread. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and perfectly prepared. I honestly don't have a single negative thing to say about either the food or the service. This was an amazing dining experience, and I will definitely be back. Highly recommend!

I do want to start with the positives. Our waiter was fantastic. He was very attentive, explained the menu thoroughly, and provided excellent service. The food also came out incredibly fast and piping hot, which is becoming rare these days. We started with the cornbread, and it was easily a 10/10. It was worth every bit of the $12. We ordered the fried chicken, greens, shrimp fried rice, biscuits, and hot water cornbread. The fried chicken was crispy and tender, but it lacked seasoning. I'd give it a 7/10. They served it with a house hot sauce, but surprisingly it had no heat and almost no flavor. I even asked the person I was dining with if they tasted anything because it was like pouring sauce on the chicken without changing the flavor at all. The greens were just okay on their own, but once we added the vinegar they became amazing. That made me wonder why the vinegar isn't incorporated into the greens from the start. The hot water cornbread had virtually no flavor. The shrimp fried rice was cooked really well, but it had an unexpected Caribbean-style seasoning that threw me off. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't what I was expecting, and it made it hard to fully enjoy. The biscuits were probably the biggest disappointment. They were dry and hard. One thing I also noticed is that, for a family style restaurant where you're encouraged to order several dishes to share, the tables feel too small. Once all the food arrived, there wasn't much room left, and even packing up our leftovers was awkward because of the lack of space. One standout that deserves recognition was the iced tea. It had what tasted like a subtle hint of mint and was incredibly refreshing. Easy 10/10. From the cuts of chicken we received, it appears they break down and fry whole chickens, which is perfectly fine. However, at $56 for a fried chicken that lacked seasoning, I found the price hard to justify. Maybe the cooking method or oil contributes to the cost, but I expected much more flavor for that price. Overall, I'd rate my experience a 7.5/10. Would I come back? Yes. I'd be willing to give Roots another chance and try something different from the menu. But when I hear Southern food, I expect bold seasoning and comforting flavors, and that's the one area where this meal really fell short.

From the moment we were seated and she greeted our table, her attitude came across as rude and unwelcoming. The entire meal felt rushed. She brought out our appetizers, but then immediately took away our appetizer plates, leaving us with nowhere to put our food. Throughout the rest of the meal, she rarely checked on our table. What made the experience even more disappointing was watching her provide attentive, friendly service to the table behind us. She regularly checked on them, boxed up their leftovers, and made them feel valued as guests. When it came to our table, she simply handed us takeout boxes and bags and expected us to package our own food. We have dined at Yardbird several times before, and the staff has always boxed up our leftovers, so this treatment was unusual and disappointing. Another concern was that an 18% gratuity was automatically added to our bill. According to Yardbird's policy, that gratuity is typically added for parties of six or more. Our party consisted of only three adults and two children--a total of five people. We were never given an explanation for why the gratuity was added. The difference in how our table was treated compared to the table behind us left us feeling uncomfortable. While I can't know the reason for the difference in service, it certainly felt as though assumptions were made about us before we were ever given the chance to show otherwise. Our family always tips well for good service, and had we received the level of hospitality we've experienced during previous visits, Jayda would have received more than the automatic gratuity. This experience was especially disappointing because it was my daughter's birthday dinner. We've always enjoyed Yardbird in the past, which makes this visit stand out for all the wrong reasons. I hope management looks into this so that no other family celebrating a special occasion leaves feeling the way we did.
