One of my favorite pizza places in town. It gives small town vibes where you walk. It's close to QU and the driving range.

Odie's Place is a neighborhood bar & grill that opened in Hamden, Connecticut in 2013. It was founded by business partners Elias Defaranos and Dan Carr. Occupying a space that had previously been home to the old Whitney Bar & Grille for a number of years, Odie's Place is a popular watering hall for Hamden residents as well as college students from nearby Quinnipiac University. Many have called it "Hamden's Hideaway". A popular menu item is their unique spin on New Haven-style pizza, with specialty options such as "Macaroni & Cheese" or "Reuben Pizza". Aside from the pizza, the menu also consists of calzones, stuffed breads, burgers, hot dogs, wraps, subs, soups, salads, various bar bites, and desserts. My family and I recently ordered take-out from Odie's Place. A co-worker of mine knows that I'm a pizza connoisseur and recommend that I give Odie's a try. I've driven and cycled by Odie's for years and never really noticed that it was there. It truly is a hidden gem. We decided to order five small pizzas so we could sample a nice variety. I picked them up in person and noticed that the bar had a steady crowd of regulars coming in for pizza and drinks. The bar is equipped with pool tables, a couple of arcade cabinets, shuffleboard, and giant flat screen TVs. The different pizzas that we tried out included "Pepperoni", "Margherita" (white with tomato, basil, garlic), "Mashed Potato with Bacon", "Macaroni & Cheese", and "Clam Casino" (white with bacon, garlic, roasted peppers). Overall, we were pleasantly surprised with the pizzas. Crispy crust with a good amount of char, super thin, good sauce & cheese combo, and great toppings! My personal favorite was the "Clam Casino". I think that Odie's Place is one of the best kept secrets in Hamden and I would love to eat their pizza again in the future! read more

Definitely dive bar vibes here. However my family got together for pizza here and we were really pleased with super quality pizza. A thin New Haven style crust for sure. We were a big group, so we sat in the pool table area. Which had large plastic folding tables. The kids had fun playing pool while we had a casual dinner with good food and cold drinks. Not a fancy place, no gourmet food, no pretentious attitude. Just a simple friendly place with a "bar food" menu. A great relaxing place to grab a bite to eat and have a drink. Live bands on Saturdays often but not always. Five star rating is just for being normal and not trying to be something they're not. Three stars because primarily only because the pizza was very good for a no frills drinking hole/eatery. The service was the biggest drawback as the place was clearly understaffed, at one point our waitress was the bar tender and only service for the entire place. HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE!!!!!!! This is a classless, shitty dive bar with shitty food, overpoured cocktails, lousy service and virtually NO management. All the customers inside at the bar were shitfaced, drunk as hell, cussing and just behaving badly, so crass. We waited 1.5 hours to get our food, they forgot a cocktail till we told them, then whn I complained to (bartender/server/manager) I got nothing but excuses and really bad attitude. Then when we paid the bill, most was in cash($75), and the remainder($25) was to be put on my card. I get the cc receipt and they charged the whole bill($95+) on my card!!!!! I question where the cash went? In the servers pocket no doubt?? So now ANOTHER confrontation ensued. They made the correction and refunded my card. I asked to see the owner, to no avail. Odie's is a great hole-in-the-wall hangout that just happens to have the best pizza in town. Lots of regulars. Bartenders and servers that know how to do their jobs. Great prices on drinks, beer and pizza. This is New Haven-adjacent style pizza. You get the good dough, not too thin, not too fluffy, because of the local water. Toppings that are fresh and varied - Clam pizza is amazing, as is the broccoli rabe and sausage. All this and no standing in line in New Haven! Plus you're paying HALF of what you'd pay at Modern or Pepe's. Don't plan to pop in for a quick pie. Food takes a while to come out once you order it, but that leaves you plenty of time for another $2.50 PBR kinger or 12oz Coors Light. Draft beers are priced fairly, no Fairfield County surcharge. Odies has great food and drinks at great prices. Their one downfall is that they recently decided not to accept out of state ID's, and you are not allowed into the establishment without at CT license. I understand that large groups of rowdy college students (some of whom may not even really be of age) are not the best patrons, however I feel it is very extreme to no longer allow out of state ID's period. I used to frequent this bar with my friends 2-3 times per week, so often that we were friends with the bartender (very nice woman) and a couple of the other regulars! It was a great place to watch sports games or just relax with a good pizza, but now neither of us are even allowed in because of this rule! Im honestly so disappointed, and although I understand the reasoning behind it I feel that there are many other ways to deal with the problem than cut off all out of state people. We love the food so much that we occasionally order out from here, but I have to give it the low rating because of the new rule. Sorry Odies, I miss you :'( read more

A hometown gem, this place is so much fun on a Thursday night. Karaoke night. It's a no judgement zone, sing for the love of singing, while you eat bar food and celebrate tomorrow is Friday! Patty keeps the flow going and tunes playing. She'll even sing with you if you need encouragement. Odie's has pool tables and sometimes paint nite. The drinks are strong and Stephanie will take good care of you! The food is pizza, wings, and regular bar food. Wings fresh and flavorful. Twice baked potatoes were tasty. Awful environment and rude bouncer will cause me to never return. A guest in my party even used the term "disgrace to Hamden". If you know what's good for you, you'll find another place to go. Don't waste your money or your time. Also if you're out of staters, don't bother, they'll turn you away. They only let CT licenses enter for my party. Where to start- the pizza is great but that's about it. I know it's hard to find people to work anywhere these days but where the heck did these people come from. Unless you are "in" you're treated poorly and get shitty service. I feel like John Tafer needs to come immediately. Everywhere feels dirty. Other customers are loud and obnoxious because they're all over served and then they walk on on their check?!? How about you provide great service to new people and not the ones who don't pay you!! I come here for the beer and pool. I've never experienced the food or sitting at the bar, so I can't tell you much about the staff or menu. But, I can tell you the pool room is HUGE and their tables are nice. The vibe that I get from this place is that it's filled with local "regulars". Every time I walk in people turn around to see if another local has walked in. If you're a college kid looking to party, this is not that place. But if you enjoy good company and playing pool then this is THE place to go in Hamden. read more

I'm always riding on the Farmington Canal trail which is located right behind the restaurant. So my wife and I took the kids for a bike ride. I suggested we take a break from riding and get some quick bites. I wasn't expecting for it to be a romantic or 5 star business, but just a local pub considering it's right down the street from Quinnipiac U. I walked in and asked if they served food and could bring my kids in and they were surprised I wanted to bring my kids in (9&5), but were happy and obliged. There is a separate seating area for families inside not at the bar. Told them we'd sit outside on the patio, at the tables and umbrellas. I ordered mild winds, son got BBQ wings, daughter got cheese fries w/ bacon, wife got anti pasta salad. Wife ate half the salad then almost barfed because at the bottom of her salad was a giant house fly smothered in the ranch dressing. The fly had criss crossed legs which meant it had been dead for a while. Not sure if the washed the salad before serving it.... My wings were pretty damn good! Kids ate all their food too, such a shame about the salad! Wife stayed to me, "She knew she shouldn't of eaten there because the health dept gave it a "B" rating which it was posted on the door. I am extremely frustrated to write this. As someone who just moved to hamden, I was extremely excited to make Odie's my new "local spot". great prices and great food would make you think it's a good establishment right? Wrong. When you have owners like the ones at Odies, I truly find it hard to want to support a business like that. After having multiple people come from different states for my birthday dinner, I decided that odies would be a good spot. I was wrong. 3 of my friends were not allowed service strictly at the fact that they were not from here. Talk about a restriction of freedom, not letting people eat at your establishment because your not from here. we offered for them to call local police to check ID's, but they still refused us service. After a 10 minute talk with both waitresses on staff and their manager, we decided to gladly take our business to Side Street. talk about a difference. At sidestreet they gladly accepted everyone's ID's, had A secure ID scanner, and had great service. Meanwhile at Odies, They refused to service anyone who wasnt from CT and I think that's an embarrassment for Odies. not only did they lose 10+ well paying customers, they left such an terrible impression that I will never ever walk through Odies doors ever again. I am going to tell each and every person I know from hamden to not go to Odies and go to side street because it's a worlds difference and a 2 minute drive. Odie's used to be my favorite place to go as a senior in college. I would go every Wednesday night with a small group of friends and play pool. I am now a graduate student and decided to go back to Odie's for old times sake; however, they now do not accept out of state ID's. So even though I would go very frequently less than a year ago-- now I am not allowed to go in because I am originally from Massachusetts. Not only is that ridiculous, but the bartender who denied us could not have been ruder. She was very nasty to us despite the fact that we just wanted to reminisce in our old favorite bar. read more

College town bar with decent food, cheap drinks and pool. Thursday night at 8pm is Karaoke. We ordered burger and fish and chips, both of which were ok. I hear the wings and Pizza are the winner. Lots of deals during football games ($20 for picher of Bud Light and large pizza OR 12 wings). read more
