This is a $9.00 sandwich. Not again!!!

Ordered lunch from here as my friend raves about it and it is close to home. I paid 20.00 for two sandwiches that hardly had any meat and looked smashed. The bread to meat ratio was definitely off. I will not be a repeat sandwich customer. They did have an excellent 7 layer bar.

I've lived in Hamden for 6 years and getting good pizza without having to go to downtown New Haven was a real struggle... until now. I just tried Sapori D'Italia for the first time last night and the pizza was delicious. Staff was super friendly. Thin crust, the perfect amount of sauce and cheese. I am so mad at myself for not trying this place sooner but at the same time, I am so happy now I could cry! And the best part, they are 1/2 mile from my house. They don't deliver (nothing good in Hamden does) but I can literally walk there if I had to. I think their prices are reasonable - a large cheese pizza was less than $15. I can't wait to try one of their grinders! Keep in mind this is a small shop with no tables inside (I noticed a few picnic tables in back though!). It is basically a deli with really good to-go Italian food. They also sell some prepared hot food specialties, cold salads, frozen fresh pasta, etc. And they close early, only open to 8 PM (9 PM on Fridays). I am posting photos of their menu as they do not have a website and I couldn't find a menu anywhere online.

I love their pizzas their pizzas are the best in town it's handcrafted well and it so good

We had the ricotta and honey on toast, meatballs, prosciutto/mozzarella to start, some white wine and of course PIZZA! The pizza was light and cooked perfectly. We had the Dolce Salato and the Diavolina. We loved the Dolce Salato! The Diavolina was good, but I think some more spicy salami or maybe an additional spicy component would have been a good addition to the pizza. It needed just a little bit more on the flavor side. But still everything here is high quality and I would recommend! Service was excellent. We were immediately seated and had the option to sit inside or outside. I first sat inside, then we moved to a larger table outside. What I really appreciated as a new mom, was their openness and flexibility for coming in with a stroller. I was nervous to be a burden to the restaurant, but they were super accommodating. Thank you On room for improvement, I think on a hot day, having the inside space being much much cooler, than the outdoor seating (especially for newborns/really young kids/elderly) would be beneficial. Yesterday it was cool inside to start (and remember I chose to move outside), but they started to leave the front door open to allow for easy movement of staff and guests between inside and outside, which made the indoor space get warmer over time. And I totally get that for the ease of movement for staff/guests, but maybe consider keeping it super cool on the inside, so that kiddos/elderly have a cool space on a really hot day to not overheat. The vibe here is great. Chill, warm and light! Come with family and/or friends and enjoy!

Modern Apizza is absolutely worth trying if you're arriving at the right time because this place gets swamped! Thankfully the line moves quick and people are in and out constantly. The inside of the establishment screams history and is definitely an important places to visit for a blast into the past with great eats. I would definitely like to say that the custom pies are good, but the traditional cheese and Margarita pies are what I would return for time and time again. Exquisite char and cook on the traditional; fantastic flavor and depth in the margarita. Both phenomenal pies worthy of driving 2 hours for. The area sucks and parking is limited, but if you can get past that, the history, style and food is worth indulging in while you're in New Haven. The servers are professionals and make sure to cater to every whim. Definitely a classy pizza spot. VISIT THE TRI-FECTA and make sure to sample Sally's and Frank Pepe's. New Haven is the map because of its rich Italian and food history and the pizza places that bring in millions of people a year are worth trying and keeping alive.

There's about 8 booths- It's a bit on the small side but the food was fantastic. Hubby and I were born and raised in NYC. It's been so long we've had really good pizza. John and Steve brought out pie after pie. We had the plain, plain with grated cheese, tomato with fresh mozzarella, clam with bacon, mangia special, Stevie Gs apple pizza, mashed potato pizza. We brought in our homemade suppi and they put it on some of our pies. We also tried the eggplant Parmesan and garlic knots. The plain pies, mashed potato, and the mangia special were my favorites but really everything there was top notch. There is nothing that I wouldn't order again. The crust is nice and crunchy. Good char on it. Sauce was delicious - not sour like straight from a can. Toppings were better than I expected for a small pizza spot. Sausage was tasty. Mushrooms were fresh not tinned, fresh tomatoes and basil. Tons of clams on the pizza. Bacon was thick sliced and left almost whole. Eggplant was sliced thin. Generous with the toppings. Even better than their pizza- is their service. It was my first time meeting them and I felt like an old friend. They were so friendly, chatted with us, told us stories -- we really had a good time. The older gentleman who brought out the food and took away the empty trays was very thorough- checked in on us regularly. Mangia Apizza is easy to miss - connected to Vick's Cafe (really it's a bar). Stop in and grab a pizza. You won't be sorry. And if you want someone to talk your ears off - stop in and eat at a booth. I wish they were closer!!

The pizza was perfectly baked, fresh and hot, with a noticeable amount of char. The crust was thin, crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside, offering a direct burst of olive-oily flavor that was quickly balanced by tomatoes and basil. I remember Margherita pizzas not having olives, but this one did, giving it a slightly tart flavor that was quite refreshing. The umami of the mushrooms added another layer of flavor as well. Original Tomato Pie with Mozzarella: We added sausage and pepperoni. The sausage pieces were large, perfectly seasoned, tender yet firm, with a distinct marinated aroma. The pepperoni was slightly dry but not tough, with a salty and slightly spicy flavor. These toppings made the pizza more fragrant, but also inevitably greasier; you could see a layer of oil seeping onto the pizza paper. Overall, it was much better than the Modern Apizza I had last time, which was unbearably salty. Finally, as a century-old establishment, this restaurant makes authentic New Haven Apizza, and the less cheese is exactly what it's supposed to be. This place is small, unapologetic, and full of character. Decorative firewood stacked with intention, walls filled with wine corks, and #10 tomato cans repurposed as pizza stands. Walk in and you immediately catch the vibe, exposed brick, distressed plaster, a slightly industrial, almost factory-style feel that somehow still feels warm and welcoming. The centerpiece of the room is the wood-fired oven, running hot and glowing with that perfect orange flame. The aroma of burning wood hits you right away and sets the tone. From that moment on, the culinary experience is in motion. We ordered The Mootz and Breaking My Meatballs. Both pies are built on a very thin, tender crust with beautiful leoparding. The dough is flavorful and clearly well-fermented. Sauce is applied with restraint, just enough to support the dough and cheese without overpowering them, and it delivers a clean, bright tomato flavor. Breaking My Meatballs was the standout. Homemade meatballs, herbed ricotta, cherry peppers, mozzarella, and that same balanced sauce. The cherry peppers bring a sharp vinegar tang that cuts perfectly through the richness of the ricotta and meatballs. Every bite hits a different note, and it all works together. Easily one of my favorites. The crust across the board was thin and tender with a delicate smoky char from the wood fire, exactly what you want from this style. Bottom line: Great spot.
