Great food, service and environment. Tomato bread and calamari are a must try and the Tiramisu was to die for

mousse and tiramisu (added candles for a birthday!)

Found out about this restaurant through a simple search for restaurants in the Placa Espanya area. We wanted a place that ideally had sangria, tapas, paella, and desserts (to celebrate two people's birthdays). This place checked off all the boxes but one (does not have paella). The sangria was delicious and not too sweet. We ordered a variety of tapas including the green salad, steaks (you can choose the amount you want via grams), gnocchi, potatoes, raw salmon, tomato/olive oil bread, and croquettes. I would highly recommend the meats as they were tender and seasoned so well. For dessert we ordered chocolate mousse (must have been dark chocolate as it was not very sweet) and tiramisu. It was very nice of them to put a tea candle on both as a birthday candle. I also loved the decor of the restaurant. It was small but very cute, with a black and white movie projected onto the wall above the bar, and interesting artwork. There's also outdoor seating as well. There are English menus for those who do not know Spanish (our server was a very nice lady who also spoke fluent English). They do have a restroom and free WiFi as well, although the WiFi works better for some platforms than others (works well for Facebook and Instagram but email, not so much). Would highly recommend this place for tapas!

not in the busiest location but great food! the grilled octopus is off the menu (~$20) and it was a little pricey but definitely the best octopus i've had. the flavor was amazing and the sweet potato sauce in the middle pairs well with the octopus. the melted cheese dish was probably the best tapa. the only thing that would have made the meal better was if it came with some bread since the dishes are pretty salty.

I had a hard time finding the restaurant on my day 2 in Barcelona. But then it happened that I stumbled into the correct place because I was hungry and ready to cave into whatever was open. I was happily surprised to find myself in the correct location. I ended up dining at the bar with the lovely owners and their friend. Most places are pretty hip and trendy for me being Day 2 in Barcelona. But take a moment and stop in here to this swagging place! I was also offered a nice shot of Limoncello to share with the owners. Note- I will post a photo of the outside so as not to miss it.

Cozy, well decorated, place. Good service, excellent food. Our favorite was the meat which you could order at 100g, making it easy to taste different kinds. The tapas was also great, patatas bravas very nicely plated and tasteful. The lightly smoked salmon had a great consistency and freshness. Strongly recommend!

Best food in Barcelona! We were lucky enough to stumble upon this gem since it was next door to our hotel. We visited other restaurants during our stay in Barcelona, but always ended up to Ocho bcn. We ended up visiting 5 times in 4 days! The owners are cooking and serving with pride, and it shows in the food and the experience. Stay away from the tourist traps and visit Ocho bcn! Highly recommended!

During the week stay in Barcelona we've tried some highly rated places for dinner. We've tried the tourist-y places on Plaça de Espanya as well as some "hole in the wall" type of local tapas places. THIS one was definitely our favorite BY FAR!! If you want some authentic tapas and GREAT service - I'd highly recommend for you to go here! We liked this place so much, we even went to dinner here twice in a row. We tried pretty much every single item on the menu and enjoyed them all! The server was super nice and explained what's what and recommended some excellent local wine! When we came back the 2nd day, she recognized us right away and welcome us with a smile as she was super excited to have us come back. At the end of dinner she even brought us a couple of drinks on the house. Overall experience was great, food was excellent, service was outstanding! THANK YOU!!

Came here for dinner with family. Best to quote my son: "Oh my god. Oh my god. Oh my god. Oh my god". He rarely expresses himself like this. Lol Como excelentísima!

Nestled in an unassuming network of cobble stone lined alley ways are hidden gems worth discovering. We came looking for tapas, paella, sangria; and we found just that. Location: Plaza de España is within a 5 min walk, blocks away from shopping, and 30 minutes from the airport by way of shuttle. Used Google Maps with several sharp turns to find this local favorite. Service: the owner employs his pet Pomeranian, that follows the wait staff unconditionally. This is a no frills restaurant; grab a seat anywhere you like, and order off the menu. What we ate: Table service - pitted olives; briny and herbaceous. So delicious as an appetizer. Crisp Potatoes - served with aioli and red pepper sauce; so simple yet so comforting. Fried Calamari - can't go wrong with crispy calamari. Pork & Mushroom Paella - I know we're used to seeing seafood, but pork and mushroom with crispy rice is different, bold, and worth each bite. Sangria Blanco - I won't lie, it was heaven with the first sip, and it left me wanting more. Unlike its red cousin; white sangria is lighter and more fruit forward. So refreshing! After 18 hours of transiting; this was a delectable experience.

Ziryab seemed to fit the bill, so we made plans to stop here during our first night in the city. Ziryab is located close to the Gothic Quarter, on side street. It's kind of inconspicuous from the outside, but the interior gives way to a really welcoming space. The restaurant is separated into two main areas, with an earth-tone color scheme that has a rustic, almost cave-like aesthetic. The high ceilings and floor-to-ceiling windows keep the dining room open and spacious. The tapas menu had a good selection, and we decided on several items: pan con tomate, sweet potato rolls, chicken cannelloni, bacon-wrapped figs, croquettes, falafel, and a charcuterie board. All the tapas were great - my favorites were the chicken cannelloni, pan con tomate, and the charcuterie board. The cannelloni especially was a standout - definitely a unique dish, and the chicken was super flavorful. We opted for dessert, and got the feta whip cheesecake - this was great as well. The combination of tang and sweet was a good finisher to our meal. Service was great - everyone was friendly and our dishes were served at a good pace. Overall, I'm glad I tried out Ziryab - the tapas were delicious and atypical of ones you find elsewhere in Barcelona. I would have no qualms returning here for another meal.

I had no idea how huge and elegant the restaurant was until I went inside to use the bathroom before leaving. We were there just after 7 pm so it wasn't as busy as I imagine it will get later, because in Barcelona, people don't have dinner until 9 or 10 PM. We ordered fresh salmon with dill, coroquetas de jamón iberico, a cod fritter, and chicken cannelloni with foie gras and black truffle sauce. We also ordered the pan with tomate, of course to soak up the truffle sauce. The cannelloni was amazing! I mean it melted in your mouth amazing!! After our snacks... We ordered dessert. It's done so right, juicy tangy, bursting with flavors and the pita in the salad is made into a curly flower and gives a delicious crunch. We liked the dish of garbanzo and yogurt a bit less, as it was quite heavy and lacked flavor. My son was very pleased with shish tavouk with chicken, and I loved my halloumi dish.
