This place is great. Good wine, the food is astounding. From presentation to taste, it's amazing.

This is a very nice restaurant that we had lunch at. I did make a reservation for their menu del dia. That was probably a good idea because after we were seated a majority of the tables did fill up. Lunch included bread, a drink of choice, appetizer, entree, and dessert for 18.90 euros. The service was very good and the courses flowed nicely. Food was tasty and had a very homey, comforting feel. I felt the dessert was very small but other than that everything was great. A good place for lunch or a drink if you are in the L'Eixample neighborhood! read more

Walking from the tourist trap that is Sagrada Familia to my next destination I was lucky to encounter this gem of a restaurant. If you're not careful you'll miss it as it's very small. Today they had one small table on the sidewalk and the rest indoor including limited bar seating. This is a spot clearly for locals as evidenced by the sheer number of people speaking Catalán around me. It's fabulous in every way- service, ambiance, food and what will be most surprising for Americans, price. For less than $20 I had tuna tartar (more like a guacamole with fresh tuna), beef short ribs, wine, coffee, water and the perfectly small sized piece of cake (tarta de Santiago) from the menu of the day Everything was amazing, and while I wasn't able to do so myself, many people left with leftovers. Great Tapas. No reservation 8:30 on a Friday night. For 2. Had a table near door (it was Feb chill, 46). The waitress spoke English and told us of the specials. So much to choose from but we went with Artichoke chips, which were lightly fried and delicious, mushroom and Honey croquettes , which were delectable, nicely fried and lots of stuffing, and the Iberian ham croquettes which strangely tasted a lot like our others. We just happened upon this lovely restaurant while touring. The staff couldn't have been more delightful to a couple of Americans that speak very little Spanish. Finest restaurant I've been to in Barcelona. Phenomenally tasting food. Great selection of nice wines. Cozy ambiance. Exceptional bargain. Truly a hidden gem. Reservation generally needed unless eating early. The wine prices are per bottle (I'm used to per glass prices for what they list). 3.5 overall Went here for a dinner with some friends. Got the sea bass for dinner, and was not very impressed. Great flavor, but small portion sizes. The patatas bravas tasted great, and this place has AMAZING cava. Wouldn't return in the future though. When it came time to split the bill, the waiter was insistent on rounding up my portion which was quite confusing. Not a huge deal, just interesting. Good but salty all around. Ordered appetizer calamari and entrees of pork and octopus. Very salty to the point of almost being inedible. Sadly this place is so highly rated, yet for an entire week in and around Barcelona this the only time this was a problem. Dessert of Coulant de Chocolat was superb. Had an amazing steak with two glasses of wine and coffee for 21 Euros. Steak was tender with nice marbelling and complemented by the house red wine which was outstanding in its own right. Restaurant was cozy with friendly wait staff. If you are looking for a great restaurant at a great price this is it. Step 6 blocks from the tourist trappings of the Passieg de Gracia and into a real Barcelona foodie experience. We were asked if we had a reservation on a Sunday night just after siesta. It was not one of those fake asks; they were concerned they were not going to be able to fit the two of us in that evening. They had a small table for two almost under the kitchen window, but all signs pointed to grab it! We were not disappointed! The food was outstanding. My wife does not know it yet but we will be going there again tomorrow. There are plenty of great descriptions and pictures of the food, no need to pile on. My contribution is to encourage you to get off the beaten path and enjoy the rewards of a little adventure (after tomorrow)! read more

Came here for dinner and wasn't very impressed, unfortunately. We ordered the tuna tartare to start and it was very onion-heavy, but pretty good. It's served with bread crackers and avocado. We had the cod and the duck confit as our mains. The cod fish was cooked perfectly, but the duck confit was drowning in truffle sauce. There was so much cream of mushroom and truffle oil that you could barely taste the duck, I actually ended up scooping the duck out of the dish and scraping off the sauce and putting it on a side dish to eat it. The duck was actually prepared really well so it was a shame. read more

My husband and I came to Barcelona on our honeymoon and we have had incredible food the entire time...but we stumbled upon Vivant walking around the city! Every bite we had was incredible! From the olives to the Arrós del Dia ( Rice of the day ) to the fresh Sea Bass. Odds are they will be packed, so make sure you sit at the bar with Jose. He'll take care of you and make you feel comfortable. While here, we did witness two groups of American's that made us all look bad with their careless nature and slight disrespect to the Spanish/Catalone culture. Went to dinner on recommendation from local wine merchant at La Vinicola (a very good place to bring a bottle home) Tapas and small plates were outstanding. Best pulpo we have had in many countries. Not chewy dusted with smoky paprika. Excellent duck with a sweet sauce that did not overwhelm. Dinner for 5 with wine and 3 desserts was 90 Euros. read more

A small and cozy dinner stop. We were graciously given a table for 4 without a reservation on a Friday night as long as we were out by 10when the table was reserved. For a group of Americans this was not a problem. Two hours of dining was perfect to enjoy a delicious assortment of tapas. Some of our favorites were the duck confit cannelloni and the tuna tataki. We had both chocolate desserts which were rich and delicious. Definitely worth a try! One minor problem was that our desserts and coffees were brought out at two different times. Visiting from the US with my sisters and we had the most AMAZING experience! The ambience is lovely and the wait staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. The mojitos and caipirihnas were perfectly made and served in large glasses. All of the food we had was delicious: les bravas del bon vivant (potatoes bravas), daus de brie cruixents (fried brie cubes), tataki de tonyina roja (seared tuna), and ragu de cua de bou desossada (oxtail ragu). Vivant was a wonderful dining experience! We went to a couple of tapas bars but this one out did all the others with unusual and thoughtful (and delicious) tapas. The hummus came in small "ice cream" cones, four different cones with four different flavored hummus. The octopus was baked into potato layers and quite lovely. While my family was in town I was looking for a Spanish/tapas restaurant with style to give them an overview tapas. We randomly stumble-uponed Vivant, that just opened few months ago. It has a lot of choice for typical tapas. Bravas were amazing, with homemade sauce. Good pulpo a la gallega and pimentos del padron too. The atmosphere is very nice and cozy. after just arriving from a quick side trip to Roija we hoped for a spectacular meal to end this wonderful adventure and we found it in Vivant. We arrived at 11 but the staff were welcoming and friendly and the glass of Cava we started our meal with was delish. also, this paired perfectly with our first course of smoked salmon salad with spinach, mango, sunflower seeds , blackberries and a berry vineagrette. Next was the tempura baby calcots with a romesco sauce which was very good but more breading than i needed as i love the taste of calcots. finally what they referred to as lamb gyro cordero which was a wonderful braised melt in your mouth lamb with a tasty sauce/gravy with tzatsiki and thick pita sort of sticks artfully presented on a black slate tray. also included hollow potato with caramelized onions and a sun dried tomato. what's not to love? wish there was room for dessert. Wine was a 2013 roija (naturally) which took a bit to open but nice, especially for 15 eu. will be back! read more
