March 19th After receiving a kind response from Mr. Fuller for an offer to come back to oceano, after having a pretty horrible experience in November we made our reservations and decided to give it another go for our March trip. We were seated with no problems or issues this go around so off to a great start. It was not as crowded as the prior visit which was nice. We got our drinks and bread they bring to the table quickly. The young man who was our servers helper I guess you could say was very friendly and nice. Never let our cups go empty or bread. Never had to ask. Which is great! Our server Chris, got our orders in quickly, and to us quickly as well. if we needed something extra he was there no problem. My mom and I ordered fish and chips we have no complaints it was very good! Hot and fresh tasted great. My husband ordered a side of spicy tuna, and a spicy tuna tempura roll! Usually spicy tuna is bright in color and super fresh looking and tasting. However what was brought out to us looked dingy, stringy, just not appealing at all. Also I guess it is mixed with onions and jalapenos which was not something we were expecting or used to. Just seemed weird. The other sushi roll we got was good, not great. When we checked in we were told we would have a 20 to 30 minute wait, but were pleasantly surprised to have only had to wait about 10 minutes. Once seated, our waiter, Angeles took our beverage and food order. He was very polite and attentive. Within about 20 minutes of ordering, the restaurant became very busy and our order got a bit confused with another table. Angeles did his best to fix our order in a timely manner and kept apologizing (we weren't upset). The restaurant appeared to still be a bit short staffed, but even with the mix up of our order we had a great meal and great service. We will definitely be back. read more

This is by far the best AYCE sushi place in Reno. We have been to many AYCE sushi restaurants in Reno before discovering this gem at the Peppermill, and we thought those were all so amazing. This is our new go-to place when in town. The fish is so much fresher and their tempura shrimp is fried to perfection. I'd recommend sitting at the bar. Joshua is a sushi genius and makes us special rolls knowing our preferences. The service is a little slow. No refills on water, no napkins, etc, but the food makes up for it all. read more

I visited this restaurant recently with family and friends. We made reservations in advance. The restaurant inside is nice but unfortunately some of the food wasn't good at all. Three of the people in our group ordered the ramen soups (different ones) and ALL were salty. We noticed my son had hardly touched the soup. My husband and I tried the soup and agreed, it was salty. I mentioned it to the waitress and she acknowledged they get complaints all the time but nothing has been done about it. This is the main reason for the two stars. When food is bland you can adjust the taste at the table by adding salt/pepper/hot sauce. You can't do the same with salty food. Also, they are not taking into consideration people with special diet needs that can't consume a lot of sodium. Another thing I wanted to mention is that when we asked about the sushi buffet the waitress said they had a different menu for it and took away the menu they gave us. She brought back a piece of paper and said to mark our choices and they would bring out the food. The menu didn't have any prices and I was unaware that children pay the same amount as adults. I found out when the waitress brought the check. When I asked her about it she said it was better to order from the set menu as the kids don't eat much. It would be nice for them to mention this at the beginning as a courtesy being that the menu they give you has no prices. Overall, I preferred the service and food at the Napa Bistro inside the Atlantis Hotel. read more

The lobster bisque was pretty floury so didn't get much lobster taste to it. The noodles that had scallops come with it were very overdone. I think the chefs need to be trained more because if you mess up on something as simple as noodles especially in a "5 star" restaurant.. then yeah you might wanna train more. This restaurant is amazing! It was very well lit which is great because you could see everything. It was super clean the menus weren't sticky and the booths were very nice. It wis decorated in a very welcoming way with the use of lamps. The food was stunning! All of the rolls were extremely fresh and flavorful. They also have a great selection of menus. But I have to mention the service. Lee was our waiter and he is the best waiter I have ever had in my life. He got to know what rolls we liked and offered tailored recommendations. 5th time eating here, and it went downhill super fast for the sushi. This used to be our go-to sushi bar for a dressier event, not anymore. The saving grace was the server very nice. Otherwise the sauces were one dimensional, and the worst part is the fish tasted old, not bad-fishy but old and dry. The regular plated meals looked good, but not returning to see if those plates are one dimensional and boring. Sad to lose this place for our eating out nights. read more

Went here with my wife and two-year-old daughter to celebrate my 40th birthday, and they took GREAT care of us. I love fish but my wife is vegetarian, which seems like a problem at a seafood restaurant, right? Not this time - the waiter sent out a sushi chef named Rusty, who listened to my wife describe what kind of vegetarian sushi she likes and then custom-made two rolls for her that looked beautiful and tasted great too. I loved the sushi I ordered, especially the caterpillar roll and the unagi nigiri - I'm very fond of eel, and this was some of the best I've eaten. I wish I'd had room for more! Everyone on staff was incredibly friendly and attentive. At the end of the meal, our waiter brought out an enormous slice of free chocolate cake for my birthday. We all ate so much that we fell asleep shortly after the meal! When we paid the bill at the end, I got about $25 off thanks to comps from my player's card. Every time we come to Peppermill we have to have one dinner here to get the all you can eat sushi. We always get the fresh sourdough break to munch on while waiting for our server... and this specific trip it took her a while to get to us. We gave them out first order of sushi's and had some miso soup, cucumber salad, and seaweed salad while we waited for the sushi to come out. The rolls are always a showstopper with all the toppings, but I think I've learned that the best way to do the ayce sushi here is to stick with the nigiri. Maybe order one roll that you really want to try or really like but stick with the nigiri and you'll defiantly get your money's worth. And don't forget about getting some ice cream to cleanse your pallet and finish the meal with something sweet! read more

For $19 for the all-you-can-eat buffet, I was not complaining. Some rolls were better than others. I really like uni, but it was a whopping $26/nigiri. However, I was happy with the quail egg nigiri and quail egg shoorters on the AYCE menu. Their rolls were not the best, but I particularly liked the Tiberon, and the phili handrolls. I'm not a fan of the deep fried ones. They have options of getting Dungeness crab meat too. Overall it was a lot of food for a good price. Almost inside every big casino in town you can find an oyster bar/ seafood restaurant. But Oceano is one of my favorite Seafood restaurants in town! They have a great selection of seafood menu cooked in many ways. Depending on people's taste. They also have a sushi menu. I'm going to go over the sushi menu first and then over the restaurant menu. SUSHI: I have a theory why people either loves or hates the sushi here: First, this is also a seafood restaurant, so they bring you nice sourdough bread with waters and drinks, if you pick to the AYCE option, you can have clam chowder soup, which is really creamy and thick, so it makes you feel full soon. Then, you have your sushi roll options my faves are the "oceano" "upside-down shrimp" and "the royal flush" the rolls are big and they have lots of rice, so they make you feel extremely full just with one and a half rolls. (I normally eat three rolls + upside down shrimps) so I've discovered that at this place you do t really need the AYCE option. With a couple rolls and an appetizer you will be fine. In my opinion, the fish is fresh and delicious. Rolls have lots of rice, some people might like that, others not. It depends on your preference. Plus you can get your 20% off locals discount. SEAFOOD: They have a great seafood selection as well! My favorite is of course the "Wood-Grilled Chilean Sea Bass" with potatoes. Delicious fish, it melts in your mouth! I love it! I have some issues with service at this place but I continue to come because their food has never disappointed me. I would give 3.8 Stars to this restaurant because their food is so good! This review is for the sushi bar which we enjoyed during Valentine's weekend. We were at the Peppermill hotel to celebrate my Mother in laws 75th birthday and spent a number of days there. We were a bit hungry and didn't want to wait another 2 hours for dinner so decided to sit at the bar and enjoy just enough to fill our bellies before we met everyone for dinner. I'm not sure what happened as I used to love Oceano a few years ago. For the high price & low quality of the AYCE compared to other restaurants in Reno, I would not return or recommend to others. The quality of the fish was very poor, I couldn't chew through half the nigiri I ordered and actually had to spit some out, which was quite embarrassing as I was on a date. All the rolls tasted the same to me, and several were lacking some of the ingredients listed. The cucumber salad was inedible, it was so incredibly salty, as if someone poured an entire bottle of soy sauce in it. The service wasn't great, it took about 45 mins to receive our food after ordering. The parking was an absolute nightmare as they had half of the parking lot closed off for some unknown reason. I visited this location on my husband's birthday for all you can eat sushi with friends. We were seated quickly and Franchesica was our busser! She was amazing!!! Friendly, so pleasant, and smiling! She deserves a raise! She was working hard and helping everyone. Now on the other hand her server James was terrible. We waited 20 mins for him to come to the table. He didn't introduce himself. Didn't apologize for us waiting. Basically gave us a "what do you want attitude" then slams down a paper and pen for us to order ourselves. This is a 5 star restaurant. We spent over $300. Are you kidding me? I immediately go and grab a manager from the front desk. She was literally the sweetest! She got us a new server. She was nice and personable but busy and from another section. So she did what she could. When we finished she split the check and one of our cards was charged the entire bill and we had to get that fixed. Sushi AYCE for $25.99 at lunch? Yes please! We were a bit hesitant at first because many of the sushi rolls felt catered toward non-Asian palates (so many rolls with sriracha, which isn't necessarily bad, but just not my preference), but I'm so glad we went with it! We ordered a lot of the nigiri and the fish was super fresh and served in huge portions. A lot of sushi buffets will cheat you by giving you huge dollops of rice under the fish, but not Oceano, which I appreciated so much! Plenty of variety with some yummy appetizer options like edamame/miso soup. We stayed at Peppermill Resort, which is where this restaurant is located, and it was our favorite meal during our stay. The decor was also so well themed. It felt very aquatic without being gaudy, and was very elegant. Kudos to whoever designed the restaurant interior!
