So anybody who follows my reviews knows that I love Pho. In my opinion, it's one of the few perfect foods out there. You can spice it up and down to taste. You can pick your protein and veggie levels. You can even order it all veggie if you like. I can eat it even if it's 115F outside. It's pretty hard to mess up Pho. Usually, the worst that happens is the broth is bland and flavorless. The broth is pretty important for Pho (or any other kind of soup dish). And yet...........somehow this Ocean Pho location has managed to botch their signature dish both times I've visited here. Ocean Pho is a small chain of Pho restaurants. This one is located in the Mountain Grove outdoor mall on the periphery of their food court area, right next to Jojo's Grill-A-Dog. They have what you'd expect to find at a typical Pho spot. As I said before, I've eaten here twice. Once with the wifey and once alone. Wifey is not fond of Pho, so she ordered their version of Orange Chicken with fried rice. Bluntly put - my Pho (brisket with beef balls version) tasted...fishy. Not only that.. the wifey's food also had a slight fish odor and tasted to it.. even her fried rice wafted of fish oil of some kind. It made everything just taste... wrong... As an added bonus; we both had the "bubble guts" a couple of hours after we had finished eating and had gotten home. No bueno. No bueno at all. So a couple of months later, I decided to try them again by myself. I ordered the same thing... and the odor/taste of fish was STILL THERE!! *blink blink blink*. At least I didn't have intestinal distress this time!! I tried bringing this to the attention of my server, and she just smiled and said "yes that's how the chef does it" HUH?!?!?! Okay so I'm not an expert expert on Pho, but I know it's not supposed to taste like that (unless I'm ordering a seafood dish), and certainly, my wife's food should not have tasted like that either. Nor should give us the bubble guts! I seriously believe they need a new chef here at this location. The taste (and smell) of my food both times has been off-putting. I'm not sure if their other locations prepare their food similarly, but this has made me a little leery of the chain in general. Exercise caution here, gentle reader. This is the way. read more

I came here a few weeks ago after watching a Movie across the street. Despite looking at the reviews, from my personal experience I was blown away with by the Orange chicken and fried rice. The Orange chicken was crispy and not greasy. 100 times better than Panda Express. The fried rice believe it or not was very tasty, not too salty. I took a terrible picture but besides the food. The service was great with me servicing us water without asking. It's a clean Restaurant and I plan to come back here again. read more

I would not recommend this place, on Sunday, Nov 26, 2023 should have never happened but again the owner doesn't care about Good Service. After this visit I will Never Ever Walk in leaving money where one is Unwelcomed. We live 20 mins away and decided to grab dinner here that we walked into the establishment at about 9pm to find we were being turned away because they were closing according to the employees. Awkward when their sign has the hours till 10pm so the employee explained that they start closing early to be completely shut down & gone by 10 pm. That just doesn't make any sense unless the franchise owner DO NOT want to pay wages by minimizing labor and avoiding any work over 4 hrs. This just frustrated the heck out of me because I paid $35 plus a $5 tip for a large Pho, spring rolls & egg rolls. Then after I paid,, they mentioned that I was unable to dine inside and had to have my dinner outside. This was unacceptable but my wife didn't want me bring it to their attention as the young girl was only following orders. Thought I'd give this place a try with a coworker a few weeks ago since we were at the shopping center. We went around 630pm on a Monday. Staff was an older man who was unfriendly and unapproachable. I came from my father's viewing, i was with my sister's family and we ate dinner there. we came around, 830pm. As we got inside, we all sat at the table, then the old man told us to sit outside, but the restaurant was empty.. its pretty cold outside, but whatever. some of us wanted boba but they ran out and so is taro drink. so i just got water instead. everybody else got pho except me, the roasted chicken was sold out as well, so i ordered kung pao chicken that comes with rice. to be honest, there werent lots of chicken but the sauce doesnt taste the way i like it. it was gross but i couldnt complain cuz my sister paid for it. the old man was also rude, i went back inside bec. they forgot to give me my rice. idk this isnt the only pho places that have rude staff, but i'd tolerate them bec. their food is delicious, but not this place. not worth coming back & also not worth taking pictures. read more

So I've eaten at this establishment multiple times before and had no problems at all. For the most part the food is always great as well as service. In recent times I've seen a drop in quality in both the food and service. Just today was my final straw, I ordered plate 89 to go and didn't receive parts of my meal. After observing this I called and asked to get a replacement; after getting my replacement meal I noticed that I received old food from a previously made meal. So in conclusion I would say this place is a hit and miss for takeout and would recommend dining in... maybe. read more

Good pho place to go to if you're in the area. Reasonable prices and portion sizes overall. Multiple branches in the area-all about the same, however I prefer the location on Barton since it is bigger. This location looks like an old take out place set up. It's not the biggest either. Overall would still come here to eat. PARKING: Located in a large plaza. Parking spots can be hard here as it gets crowded with all the restaurants and movie theater. Spots are located behind the restaurant and near Ulta/Hobby Lobby as well as Harkin's Movie theaters. SERVICE: Service is good. Every once in a while, you have to flag them down for the check or for water, but it happens. SHRIMP AND PORK SPRING ROLLS: Can either get an order of 2 or 4 rolls. I typically get 2. Their peanut sauce is good. Would always get this again. PHO TAI (#15 on menu): Comes with rare steak (I usually get it cooked well done) with your pho broth and noodles. This is my go-to at pho places. Tastes exactly how I expected. Would get this again as well. OXTAIL PHO (#2 on menu): My boyfriend wanted to try this as people often rave about oxtail. He didn't enjoy it because although you get an oxtail with bone, it's actually a hassle to get the meat off the bone. Also, there's less meat overall in the broth. He'd rather stick to his usual. The food delicious! The pho had deep and flavorful taste and all. However the waitress was horrible. My bf and I were not provided with utensils, so obviously we did the normal thing and waited for her approach our table or our neighbors. It was VERY hard to get her attention. So, we knew it is pretty impolite but had to speak up. She absolutely ignored us even after we said several 'excuse me'. We thought she could've not hear us, so we had to wave your hand to get her attention. She tend too ignored us, even though she clearly made an eye contact. We had to talk to the other waitress - we know it is not a proper restaurant manner to call on diff waiter, but we had too. Finally after 10 min of awkward and uncomfortable interaction (or a lack of), we were finally provided with the utensil and at that point the broth was cold. I will absolutely go there again, but if I see that waitress through the window, I will happily pass. There are so many other pho restaurants with great customer service :) read more

Thought I would give a 3 star restaurant a chance in Redlands. I was wrong. Few things that wasn't up to par in my opinion. First, who eats pho with a silver spoon? I couldn't even get a nice gulp of broth and my noodles. I have never eaten pho without Thai basil. If you were out of basil, you should have said something. Redlands, CA We stopped in about a half an hour before they were going to close. Staff was pleasant and quick with ordering and bringing food out. Those who ordered Pho seemed to enjoy. We ordered: Egg Rolls Fried (4 pcs) 4.5 stars Really no complaints, fried perfectly, served with lettuce and mint leaves and a light fish sauce and vinegar? Vietnamese dipping sauce. Spring Rolls Pork and Shrimp (2 pc) 2.5 stars Fresh, but did not like the flavor of the Pork Flour Crepe with veggies like cooked bean sprouts inside 3 stars greasy outer surface otherwise nice to eat the hot ingredients with the cool lettuce and mint, similar to eating egg rolls mentioned above, same dipping sauce. For a last minute stop while in the shopping center it was worth a trip in, tables were full when we visited. I cannot emphasize enough how much this place has declined over the past few years. When they first opened, Ocean Pho checked all the boxes when choosing a local Vietnamese food restaurant. Now, after my last experience, I would much rather drive a little farther for a better experience. Let's begin with the customer service. We were greeted by a server who, well, didn't do much greeting. He stood there and stared at us awkwardly as we walked in. I had to ask, "Can we sit down and eat?" I had no idea he was the server as he was wearing a t-shirt that read "Yacht Fishing" and shorts. Anyways, the gentleman takes our order while standing extremely close and at one point stretches his arms above his head, exposing his belly button at my table. Let us not forget that he doesn't write our order down. This is important later. Let us move on to the food. First, my daughter gets her pho (broth) with no meat. They forgot to bring it out. They finally bring it out 5 minutes later. 5 minutes after my daughters food comes out, my pho comes out. It was nice and luke warm. The soup wasn't even warm enough to break my noodles down. 10 minutes later, my wife is still waiting for her food as we watch tables around us (who came in after) get their dishes. Finally, my wife gets her food and it comes out wrong, of course. Last but not least, we never got our egg rolls that we ordered. You guessed it, our wazoo server forgot to put them in because he did not write it down. Finally, let's talk about the cleanliness and atmosphere. There is no music or background noise playing like before. You are forced to sit there in an awkward silence and listen to each other chew. The restaurant itself seems dirty. This time for 9 dollars I got 4 thumb sized spring rolls with shrimp and just noodles not even the pork that comes with it and watery peanut sauce. I have eaten here before and the food is fine. This is not my complaint. My complaint is that I ordered my food and was told it would be ready 20 mins. later. When I arrived, a very young child said it wasn't ready. They hadn't even begun making my food! Overall, I had to wait 45 mins for my food. In the meantime, there were other people who came in after me and got served within 10 minutes. When I brought this to the attention of the young child, he simply looked at his watch and walked away. My fiancee and I love Vietnamese food and were patiently awaiting the grand opening. We were perusing the mall yesterday and finally saw the grand opening sign. Unfortunately, we had already eaten lunch. The next day, however, we decided that it was the perfect time and weather for pho. This place is very clean, albeit small seating only 34 people. We had the option of sitting on a small table or booth and we opted for the booth. The waitress brought over our menus, and we were overwhelmed with choices. There were the usual appetizers, pho, and vermicelli, but there were also rice dishes and congee. We opted for filet mignon pho, Vietnamese iced coffee, shrimp and pork summer rolls, and spicy fried chicken with lime. Our waters and Vietnamese iced coffee came out, and the coffee was tasty and perfectly caffeinated. A few minutes into our wait, we noticed that the restaurant was getting busier and the staff had a family of three wait outside for a table. Feeling very badly, my fiancee and I told the staff that we would be more than happy to move to a smaller table. They were very grateful and cleaned up our table in a jiffy to accommodate the family of three. After we switched to a smaller and cramped table, our orders came flying out starting with the fried chicken appetizer. However, we were expecting a fried chicken dish with lime on the side but instead got what seemed to be buffalo chicken with celery and ranch. It seemed like a dish from Buffalo Wild Wings and not an authentic Vietnamese dish. We ate it anyway and thought it tasted like any old buffalo wings that you could defrost from Costco. The star entree was the filet mignon pho. The meat was sooooo soft and tender. It contrasted well with the light broth and noodles. The portion size was great too because it could easily feed two people. Highly recommend this dish. Now, remember how we moved tables? Apparently, this caused some confusion with the staff because our summer rolls did not come until after our pho arrived. We saw them delivering it to our former table, and we tried waving them down but they didn't see us. I wish I could say that this dish was worth the wait but the summer rolls were small and the peanut dipping sauce was very watery and bland. This place is very new so they have a few kinks to work out. Overall, we were impressed with the cleanliness and the flavors of some of the dishes. read more

We enjoyed our late night dinner so much at Ocean Pho. It was a super busy Sunday Night, however our food came out quickly. My sister loved the shredded chicken udon and I liked the broth of that one. Crispy chicken appetizer came with 6 pieces and the breading was 10/10. I was looking for a late lunch/early dinner, and with so many options at the plaza, I decided to go with Vietnamese. The menu was much larger than I expected, and after saying that I wanted something authentic that wasn't pho, and explaining that I'm not a huge fan of spicy, or cilantro, the young lady recommended the seafood udon soup. The to go package was excellent, separated with broth below, solids above, and sprouts, basil, and jalapeno in a baggie. There was a lemon wedge, small container of hoisin sauce, and a packet of sriracha sauce. After combining everything in the bowl, I ate the whole thing, and found that it was the perfect amount, and quiet tasty. The only complaint is that I've had two quarts of water after it, and I'm still thirsty. It could be the dry air, or it could be all of the sodium from the soup. I guess we'll never know. A bit more protein would have been nice, but otherwise, a decent option. read more

Found out their hours were wrong on yelp a couple weeks ago so we went at the correct time last week and got turned away. When we asked what time they closed they didn't give a straight forward answer. Called today trying to do a mobile order and lady said they were full for the night at 9:15 then proceeded to say they would stop serving at 9:30 and closed at 9:45 so when I asked if I could walk in instead she said no. Very frustrating that this is the third time we've been turned away, I understand being busy but I don't understand hours changing varying on who's working. read more

When ordered the lady asked for our name then took order. Before the call ended she said "will you be paying when you get here" Weird question. But yes. We got there at 620. 30 mins after we ordered. If I wanted that, I would have ordered and waited another 40 mins for my food!!! The person behind us ordered and WHAT DO YOU KNOw, received their order before us. Even tho we had a phone order. In all, we waited an hour and 20 minutes for our phone order. We work 12 hours days and ordered ahead because we were trying to avoid waiting. got the pork banh mi. - bread was hard. Not that flavorful: pretty dry. Got wontons - there was nothing spectacular about it. Why give sweet fish sauce with it instead of sweet and sour? Got pork fried rice - let's be honest. It's the old unsold pork. Nothing spectacular. Was not worth The wait. Food is normally good, but it wasn't that day. But seriously, you guys need to get your act together and be more organized.
