So my sister is visiting and we decided to hit some place new in Lexington. Neither of us have even heard of this place before, at least a place like this in Lexington.
Let me first start and say, this place is awesome. The service is excellent, staff is extremely friendly and the decor and ambiance of the whole place is spot on and perfect, giving a feel of a real bourbon and whisky house. This is a place that embodies an older Kentucky feel.
Their menu is specific and to the point they have appetizers, shareable plates, entrees and seasonal desserts. Their bourbon and whisky selection is vast and amazing.
We started out the evening with a selection of drinks
Brass Monkey: Kentucky straight bourbon, strawberry pineapple shrub, lemon juice, aromatic bitters, ginger beer
Juicy: Vodka, Simple Syrup, like, cucumber, cilantro.
Both are extremely refreshing cocktails. The first having the bite & sweetness of the ginger beer and the flavor profile of the bourbon, everything melded so well. The second had the overall flavor of cucumber, but had the sweetness on the tail end with the smoothness of the vodka.
Appetizer: Baked Oysters: Casino-style, butter, white wine, candied bacon, shallots, red bell pepper, garlic, lemon, Parmesan crumbs. Comes with 4 of them
Amazing just melts in your mouth. It's so juicy and delicious.
Entree's:
SMOKEY SHRIMP & GRITS
smoked shrimp, andouille sausage, applewood bacon, weisenberger cheesy corn grits, spicy creole sauce
SMOKED HALF CHICKEN
semi-boneless hickory smoked, fresh local potato gnocchi, heirloom cherry tomatoes, caramelized black garlic, fresh basil; natural jus
1) this was more than I could have asked for. Grits were buttery and smooth and were amazingly cheesy. The sauce with the sausage, shrimp & bacon, took it well over the edge into sweet bliss.
2) the chicken was cooked in a smoker then butterflied and grilled on the open flame. It was really good flavor, the only issue we had was, it was dry...made it difficult to really enjoy. The cherry tomatoes, gnocchi & Garlic. We're perfect for the dish. The savory sweet of the tomatoes and the garlic paired with the Gnocci in a delectable pairing of flavors.
The chicken being dry is only reason why I took a star away, made the dish difficult to fully enjoy.
I tried another cocktail for dessert:
No Shrubs
london dry gin, elderflower liqueur, lillet, strawberry pineapple shrub
Amazing, sweet & refreshing. The elderflower paired well with the gin.
This place is a gem worth visiting at least once. If you decide not to stay for dinner at least come for drinks and enjoy the wide variety of bourbon & whiskey; stay for the expertly crafted cocktails and the sweet personalities of the staff. I highly recommend this place to anyone and everyone. read more
