This establishment makes for a perfect place to have cozy brunch on a cold Saturday afternoon. The service was so warm and welcoming and very attentive! I'm disappointed that this place doesn't have more business! It's a cute little restaurant tucked into a strip mall on Tate's Creek Road that serves the typical American dishes like steak and eggs and short rib Mac n cheese, which I had and it was uhhhh mayyyy zinggg! One of their more popular starters is the candied bacon which was the perfect starter to put me in a "brunch" mood. At each table there is a tablet that displays each menu item with photo and price to guide you on making a selection for your meal! For those who drink alcohol they have a well established variety of bourbons that I'm sure can satisfy any of your cravings, after all it's not named OBC (Old Bourbon County) for nothing! After having a fabulous dinner here on Christmas Eve 2019, we were back in town and dined here on New Years Day 2021. The hospitality was excellent. From the hostesses and managers (who thankfully enforced the mask policy after a take out customer wasn't wearing one), to the server who was very friendly and attentive, diners are taken care of. Note: as we had a toddler in our party, the server made sure to bring the toddler's food quickly to keep him busy. Recommended dishes: short ribs, chicken in biscuits, fried oysters, Brussel sprouts The winter salad was a little too drenched in dressing. I recommend ordering the dressing on the side. read more

The entire length of one wall is covered with a list of all the bourbons and whiskeys offered here while the opposite wall houses the booze! The restaurant is small, but cozy and inviting. We had booked an 8pm reservation, but they were able to seat us about 20 minutes early. We settled in with a variety of wine, craft cocktails, and of course, bourbon! The waitress recommended their "Bacon in a Glass" and it was delicious. The peanut butter sauce put us all over the edge. I ordered the pork tenderloin for my entree which was ahhhh-mazing, but be wary of the pears if you have an aversion to spice! Jalapeno cornbread and mac n cheese made for indulgent sides. We ordered the buttermilk donuts for dessert and probably shouldn't have as we had to be rolled back to the car. I can't recommend this place enough, it was great! read more

Wow ... this place knock my socks off! My party of 7 showed up without reservations and they worked to get us seated. Our waitress, EMILY, was johnny-on-the spot! This evening, we enjoyed dinner for the second time at OBC Kitchen. Once again, I had the wonderful kale salad, which was missing something--the cheese. Our server was kind enough to dash back to the kitchen and get some for me. I also had the Turf 'n Surf, which was a nice array of beef carpaccio (wow!!!!), fried oysters, and cheese crisps. As much as I wanted to try the bread pudding, I was stuffed. Paul had a dark beer (Dragon something or other), and as much as I do not care for beer, I have to admit that I appreciated the subtle chocolate note that came at the end of my sip. He also had the chicken and waffle, which was absolutely divine. Service and atmosphere were as remarkable as last time. I like how the room is kept dimly lit so the bourbon bottles on the lighted bar really stand out. The only complaint I have pertains to price, because, well, just about everything on the menu is on the pricey side. I think it's worth the extra cash, which is why I will be back (again). read more

So Mr. Coleman and I decide to try the OBC Sunday brunch. OBC (which stands for "Old Bourbon County) is Part of the Bluegrass Hospitality Group of restaurants. It is very conveniently located off Malibu next to Tate's Creek Road in the Zandale Shopping Center. Parking is plentiful and convenient. The restaurant was busy but not overly crowded. As we entered, we noticed patrons eating outside enjoying the al fresco seating in the beautiful weekend sunshine. I rarely eat outdoors, so we opted for indoor seating. We were greeted quickly and politely and seated right away at a low two-person table in the back near the garage door. When you first walk in the restaurant, allow your eyes time to adjust to the very low lighting. My first impression was that "this is a loud restaurant to have such intimate, ambient lighting". And to be honest, I'm not sure why they bothered with that other than to seem more upscale, as there is nothing intimate about OBC. In fact, quite the opposite as the two young women seated at the high-Barrell table next to us, along with our hostess, carried on quite the spirited (aka 'loud') conversation for some time, complete with several ear piercing bursts of laughter as if they were at a comedy club on a really good night. You ever see people who almost act as if they think they are the only folks in the room or who evidently want everyone to notice them? Well, that was the situation here. And the presence of our hostess, who sat down at their table with them, as sweet, attentive, and as competent as she was, only escalated the noise made by the other two. That said, our hostess, Emily, arrived at our table quickly, was positive and friendly and put us at ease at once. She was careful to listen to special requests and to make sure they came out correctly. She also made a recommendation for me that turned out to be spot on. And so, despite biscuits that were woefully dry, which even the maple bourbon butter couldn't make up for, and despite an atmosphere that was louder than I would have preferred, both Mr. Coleman and I came away from the experience with an overall positive take away and we know that we will be back. Why? Two words: the food. Other than the aforementioned dry biscuits, the food was delicious. The steak and eggs were cooked just right with the filet mignon cooked medium and tasting delicious. My pimento cheese omelette (don't discount it til you try it) was delicious and is definitely something I will order again. Despite our initial skepticism about the place, all of the food put in front of us was delicious. And you can overlook a lot with food this good. So it wasn't the trendy little upscale rectangle china plates that impressed me. It wasn't the individual glass bottle of cold water that was brought to our table; it wasn't the little baby jars of jam that came with the biscuits. It wasn't even how nice and attentive our hostess Emily was, or even the fact that the manager, Apollo, came round and asked us if everything was okay - those were all great things - but, by themselves, that's not enough to garner a recommendation from us -- bottom line- it is the food that will bring us back to OBC. Brunch for two was $44.00 and change plus tip - but ObC garnered my greatest respect when Mr. Coleman complimented the food - something he does not do lightly or often. So kudos to the chef or chefs at OBC from two new converts, and thank you for a wonderful Sunday brunch. Just one thing -- with all due respect from this mountain girl who knows how KY biscuits should taste - for gosh sakes, add some more shortening to those biscuits. But honestly, how can you not love a place that serves candied bacon in a glass as an appetizer? read more

It's not often that I go into a place without my kids or wife, where I can truly try the place out. Mostly because if I was going to get a bunch of good to try for all of us I would go broke faster than the speed of light. However, I got the try out this nifty little venue with just a group of friends today. Now, my servers name was Dylan. And bless his soul he put up with all my non sense and my group of people, but no matter what happened he walked around with a smile and was genuine to everyone at the table. The other emoyees as well seemed to just really enjoy their jobs. We ordered our food (make sure you read the menu item carefully) and although it took a good while for it to come out, I can say it was well worth the wait. It was all perfect amd the best part about having such a large group we all got to swap and try each other's food. Overall I give the food and atmosphere a strong 5. No doubt no questions asked. When we travel my friends and I like to try places we can't find at home and OBC fits that category. Old Bourbon County Kitchen is a bourbon drinkers fantasy. Their back wall of bourbon has to be one of the best I've ever laid eyes on. There are bourbons ranging from $5 to $140 (this reviewer did not try those bourbons). The menu is chef driven with foods that compliments the wide range of bourbon. The honey bourbon sugar bacon in a glass was incredible, and the peanut butter sauce was so good I kept some around for my entree. The Wagyu Bacon Cheeseburger was a savory masterpiece. One of my friends had the andouille sausage Shrimp & Grits and said it was so good enough that he'd order it again. The other friend enjoyed the Pork Tenderloin, but did say he felt it was priced too high for what he got. We enjoyed the OBC Kitchen but suspect next time we're in Lexington we'll try a different local restaurant. read more

I really know how to do some research because I keep choosing great places to eat. The food here was incredible and the service was phenomenal. It's my first day in Lexington, and I'm already off to a great start. All I'm going to say is that if you are going to go to one place in Lexington.....this is IT! Our fantastic server made suggestions for us and we did everything he told us to from drinks to dinner...and boy am I happy we did. If you are lucky enough to get Dylan and your server, you have truly hit the jackpot. He was quite pleasant, knowledgeable and very attentive without being overbearing, but my favorite part about him is that he seemed very happy to be there. The candy-esque bacon is AMAZING!!!!! I don't like arugula, but arugula salad with grits croutons was HAD and took a severe beating. The poke was seasoned to perfection and the chicken and biscuits made me want to turn around and smack my momma right across the face...and if you know my momma, I clearly lost my mind even saying that (she won't read this, I hope). Had a most enjoyable evening at OBC Kitchen. Visiting Lexington for two nights and wanted to go somewhere that featured bourbon as my husband and I both enjoy it. Not only did we get a great bourbon experience, but the food was delicious also. Apollo, the manager, hit it right off with my husband and was so helpful in recommending bourbons to try in addition to my husbands favorite (but impossible to get) Blantons. He came to our table several times to continue the conversation and my husband was very impressed with his knowledge. Our waitress was Zoe and she was also great- very attentive but not smothering. We ordered the Salmon Potato appetizer (to die for) and the Bacon in a Glass. The bacon was delicious and great with or without the peanut sauce. I was pretty full from the appetizer so I ordered the Stacked Salad from the appetizer menu- it was delicious. My husband did the Steak and Crabcake and he loved it. I ordered @The Root" cocktail as I enjoy an old fashioned, and it was one of the best drinks I ever had. If I ever come back to Lexington, my first dinner will be at OBC Kitchen. First I have to say the food was delicious once we finally got seated. We made a Thursday night reservation a couple weeks out as we heard it was a popular spot to eat. Even with a reservation it took almost 30 minutes to be seated during which several parties who came in after us seemed to get called first?? Hostess was not friendly nor apologetic about the wait. I had heard rave reviews about this restaurant and was looking forward to having dinner here. The missus and I went for our anniversary dinner and I have to admit, the reviews are spot on. We started with drinks, I got the "dammit feels good to be a gangster " and for her the "macho madness." Both were delicious and for the appetizer the crispy fried oyster came heavily recommended. For entrees we went with the chicken and biscuits and cola braised short ribs. While the prices are definitely higher, as you would expect from a nice establishment, the food was actually in generous portions and we both left stuffed. I think this is an ideal first date night, special occasion meal, or a cool place to hang out where you can try their incredible craft cocktails or over 50 varieties of bourbon. Came here for dinner on a Friday night around 7:00. It's not a huge place; we didn't have reservations and all the tables were filled so we opted to wait for one while having a drink at the bar. Had a great time with the bartenders experimenting with new cocktails. After waiting more than 40 minutes for a table to open up we decided to bite the bullet and just eat at the bar. The menus are all on ipads (with pictures of the food and drinks!) which I thought was super cool. The food choices were on the "heavy" side for us so we ordered 2 appetizers (brussels and cheesy grits) and an entree (steak with string fries) and shared everything. These plus dessert (milk and cookies) was plenty and we enjoyed everything. The decor is cool and the atmosphere is fun and I can't wait to go back for another date night. I'd recommend reservations if you really want a table! Update: We came here again a second time and the food was even better. This time we had the braised short ribs and pork tenderloin which were both AMAZING. Order them. We definitely recommend these entrees over the steak and crab cake that we tried the first time, which was just ok. Also this time we had the cauliflower appetizer which was (again) on the heavy side with lots of oil, butter and sugar. The donuts dessert with the dipping sauces was MILES better than the cookies we had on our first visit. I loved the chocolate sauce while my husband thought the caramel was the best. We've eaten at OBC Kitchen for almost a decade. It's by far one of the best restaurants in Lexington, KY. The food and service have always been outstanding. The bar is excellent and has a great selection of bourbons. Happy Hour runs from 4:30 to 6:00 PM, and they have wonderful specials. It's recommended that you make reservations as well in advance as possible, especially when Keeneland Race Track is open, if there's a football or basketball game, or any other special event is occurring at UK. read more

The appeal of OBC kitchen is their cocktails. The food is nothing special. I had the shrimp and grits. It was overly salty and the sausage was better than the shrimps. The shrimp was overcooked and just got lost in the dish. We also had the fried chicken. It was plentiful full but the biscuit and dish overall was just dry... It needs some sauce or gravy. We did enjoy the bacon!!! Food wise, it may have been the choices we made that it did not wow. The cocktails we're great. Our waitress was very nice and helpful. However, she made a point of taking over the conversation every time she stopped by our table and refill our water. I will give this place another try for the cocktails!! read more

Hosted a family dinner while I'm a bourbon trail vacation at OBC. No need to spend time driving between distilleries, the bourbon list at OBC was phenomenal. Melino was our server; charming, personable and made our evening delightful with both drink and food recommendations. Started with the "potato skins," which by the description was not an ingredient. We were thinking that the salmon would be crispy and serve as the vessel for the other ingredients. The salmon was tasty and wrapped around a potato wedge. Nice appetizer. Short rib taco was delicious, tender tender flavorful beef. We had six different entrees, all were enjoyed. My salmon, kale and quinoa salad was hearty, the salmon a nice medium rare with a distinct grilled flavor. After dinner at Malone's steakhouse, we went next door to OBC for a nightcap. My husband enjoyed some bourbon with a friend. They have a very nice selection of bourbons and other spirits if you are not a bourbon lover. The place is quaint and small.
