Service was stellar & our food was served quickly! The restaurant is located inside a super cute old house. Seating is limited inside consisting of a some tables and a short diner style bar top and there are a couple small tables outside. Seating inside is tight. The cheesy grits were good enough. The Cajun gravy wasn't really my style having grown up on southern breakfast gravy. The biscuits were dry and crumbled at the touch. The fried eggs were delicious with a deep orange color yolk. The real kicker here were the scrambled eggs - the texture was so strange. They were like a dry gritty texture that I had never experienced before, so much so I asked how they were prepared. They didn't appear to look any different than any other scrambled eggs so we were all caught off guard tasting them. The server checked on how they were prepared and said they were cut with milk on the griddle.. which I also do with scrambled eggs so it made the texture even more bizarre. Giving 4 stars because the service was great, the place is cute and I can't speak to their lunch menu! I would return to check out lunch. read more

Josie's was our only stop in Lexington, but a pleasant one. My top-tier chum who literally went to the school of hospitality and I came by here to meet up with a colleague for brunch last Thursday morning. He's from this general area and recommended this spot, among a few others. I picked it because I liked the vibe, which I stand by in hindsight. Last Thursday was an atrocious weather day, raining for most of the time including the entire morning as we drove up to Lexington from Irvine. Since we'd never been over here, Josie's wasn't necessarily easy to spot apart from the other nearby businesses. It WAS very obviously in this larger strip mall situation (which doesn't seem like exactly the right term, but it's definitely in a building with a bunch of other stores), though we had to walk around almost the entire perimeter from our parking spot on Euclid to find it. Once we did, smooth sailing. Despite the fact that it was a weekday, Josie's was pretty busy when we walked in around 10ish. We WERE heading toward MDW, which could have been a factor, but this seems to be a pretty popular establishment regardless. It feels pretty new - this isn't like an old school greasy spoon diner type of situation - with some interesting artwork on the walls, and booths, regular tables and counter stools potentially available. Our colleague was already there and had secured a booth towards the back closer to the bathrooms, which allowed for some fun viewpoints of most of the restaurant. We were already a few days into our debauchery of a road trip, so I kept it pretty well-behaved - I opted for waffles with strawberries. That's it. The food came very quickly, as did the requested coffee, which might have ultimately been more important than the aforementioned waffles in the grand scheme of things. I honestly don't have a lot to say about them other than that they were perfectly fine waffles. The strawberries were fresh, the waffles themselves were cooked through but not too crispy, and that was that. I think it's a little hard to mess up something this basic, and thankfully all was well. The service was excellent throughout and even though I didn't foot any part of the bill (a thank you to our Kentucky colleague), the prices seemed very reasonable to me - though I also have a completely distorted perspective given that most of my consumerism takes place in the NYC area. No issues here; didn't see a ton of reasons to wander back into Lexington unless somehow Coach Cal comes back to coach the Cats and I miraculously score tickets to something at Rupp, but this was a nice little spot. read more

We love the southern-kitchen feel of the restaurant, every one gets a different mug for their coffee and it makes you feel right at home. Service was 1st rate. My companion ordered a buffalo chicken salad. She loved it, but it was way too large. As we all know, salad doesn't travel well, and so half of it wound up in a landfill. I purchased a Reuben with Cole slaw on the side. This was an up-charge since l didn't want fries. Josie's uses chow-chow instead of sauerkraut. This is a poor exchange. My huge wet sandwich came out laden with grease, in a plastic bowl on a piece of grease-soaked paper. I ate half; a much smaller version for 2/3 the price would have been way more enjoyable. I took the other home to reheat in my air fryer, but, yuck. That, too, did not travel well. The up-charged slaw was truly not to my taste- it was extremely smoky, but that's my fault as l asked for it. I think the portions should be human-sized, and bring the price down by a third. read more

Josie's was a great spot for brunch while visiting Lexington. My sister-in-law loves Josie's and I can see why. The restaurant is set back in a cute little shopping area so save time to explore. Being in a shopping center, they have a large parking lot in front of the restaurant which was convenient. On a weekday morning we were able to get a table right away. I'm told that on the weekends there is usually a wait for a table. The Trio Salad was a delicious combination of chicken salad, pasta salad, and tuna salad. All three were very good. My favorite was the chicken salad. It had a really nice flavor that was a little different than most chicken salads. It wasn't sweet like some chicken salads can be. The pasta salad was tangy. The portion size was generous and I had plenty to share with my toddler. The little blueberry muffin on the side was also yummy. While on vacation here in Lexington we were looking for a homey place for breakfast (they also serve lunch and dinner)We came upon Josie's restaurant and were happy we did . On arrival we noticed all the tables were filled but luckily we were quickly seated and placed our order. The interior is kinda old fashioned , rustic , clean and comfortable. The staff was very polite and friendly. We ordered coffee, scrambled eggs with sausage , a biscuit and side of potatoes. With it being National Waffle Day, I knew I need to celebrate with a waffle. I am happy that I chose Josie's. I sat at the counter. While I am average height, I seemed to be the wrong height for the stools. If I sat back, my thighs seemed to spills over the sides of the stool. When I pushed forward for so my toes touched the ground, it was more that I was perched on the stool. There appeared to be 1 server for the counter area and she seemed a bit overwhelmed. As you can see from the pic, my waffle was beautiful! It smelled so good!! The strawberries were fresh. The whipped cream was fresh and even the butter tasted amazing! We were in Lexington on vacation. They have lots of gluten-free options, so we thought that we'd give it a try. This is a cute place. The service is excellent. This place is located deep within a strip-style shopping center. It was a nice fall day, so we ate outside (don't expect it to be scenic - the tables are in the parking lot). The coffee was good and plentiful. I had a southwest style omlet with avacado and salsa. It filled the plate and I was stuffed. A Lexington institution, a stones throw from my daughters apartment, so we tried it out. It's a nice cozy restaurant, though very busy. There's tables, booths and a nice horse shoe counter. It was quite busy and it would have been quite a wait but a couple spots opened up at the counter as we walked in. The coffee, well it was coffee but better than what you'd get at the office. The selection was typical breakfast fare, omelets, pancakes, eggs Benedict, granola, grits, biscuits and sausage gravy and such. Though some dishes had unique names they were pretty pedestrian, like the Tijuana two was just two eggs with a side of pico made by some guy named Fernando. They did have a pork chop entree which looked intriguing. We stuck with the classics, omelette and eggs Benedict. Yeah, I've mentioned it before but there is a flavor ceiling with breakfast food. Yeah it was good but really just okay. It's a nice little diner with a lively atmosphere, they serve lunch and dinner too, so we may return to try those. read more

House Salad is more than basic...no cheese (asked if that was intentional, it was), Pork Chop was thick but bland, sides were also underwhelming. My mashed potatoes ok but my husband's fried zucchini & onions was way slimmer a portion we had ever seen. Garlic bread didnt make sense to me. We were in town for Greek Sing and my sister recommended that we try for Josie's for their specials. There was only a short wait since we got there somewhat early Saturday morning. Our server was Isabel and she did a fantastic job. She let us know that the Peanut Butter & Banana Batter Pancake was one of their specials. I thought it sounded delicious, so I ordered one along with a Chocolate Chip Pancake. The Peanut Butter & Banana Batter Pancake was unlike any pancake I've ever had in the best way. It had a dense, chewy consistency and I loved every bite of it. I hope they add it to their menu permanently! My sister ordered the Two & Two with goetta. I asked her if she liked it, and she told me "Oh my god!" (That's a yes.) In addition to the yummy food, the decor was warm and inviting. I highly recommend Josie's to anyone in the area. read more

Great unpretentious lunch/breakfast spot. With half my family in Lexington, we often find reason to run things over from Louisville. Rarely have we done this lately without a stop by Josie's! I love supporting a local place, and getting close to campus without *involved* in campus is good for my nostalgia. Service is friendly. They are sweet to my daughter, who is 2 and can be full spirited, so I always love when service acknowledges her! Orders don't take long to come out, which makes it a great quick lunch. I always order breakfast when given the choice, but my family orders lunch. The pancakes are wonderful! I have also had 3 separate egg entrees and would order any of them again, though the egg white omelette today was my favorite yet. It's a comforting vibe, laid back as you hope to find near a college campus but not too much. I'd have taken my parents here in college. I went the day after Christmas with a friend. They close at 2 on Mondays and my friend and I got in right around 1. There was a short wait for a table or booth or we could sit at the counter without a wait. We chose the counter. The server was friendly and helpful and the vibe at the place was warm and welcoming. I had the Meathead omelet which came with the choice of potatoes or cheese grits (I opted for the potatoes) and a biscuit. The biscuit was slap yo momma good. I'm talking full orgasmic moans while eating! It didn't need butter or jelly--it was light and fluffy and tasty on its own. Loved my meal here. On our way from Michigan to Tennessee. We decided to stop in Lexington for lunch. And Josie's didn't disappoint. With outside seating, contact free menus and a great list of yummy breakfast and lunch food, we loved and thoroughly enjoyed this restaurant. I ordered the baby spinach salad with an added scoop of Mamoo's chicken salad. The candied pecans and almond slivers paired perfectly with the fresh strawberries. The little side strawberry rhubarb muffin was the perfect ending to the salad, but definitely not an afterthought. While the best part was dining with my friends, the southern hospitality, delicious food and outside seating made this a special treat. read more

This was my first visit. I would go everyday. It was that good. Half pint was cooked perfect. Toasted bun, juicy flavor. The fries golden and crisp and puffy inside. Love them. I love this place and the food is fantastic, but I can't help but to feel like the prices are crazy. I got the Chevy chase special which is 2 eggs, a small portion of home fries, biscuit and slice of ham. I added a side of homefries because I feel like there isn't much included and got another side of gravy, but for take out they included more I feel like than in store so I really didn't need this. My boyfriend and I showed up around 10 am and it was a 50-55 minute wait. Luckily two spots at the bar opened up a few minutes later so we snagged those seats. We both ordered the Chevy Chase, mine with bacon and breakfast potatoes and his with sausage and cheese grits. We ordered over medium eggs but they came out pretty runny. The rest of the plate was good, especially the biscuit. Service was fast and friendly. The reason for 3 stars is that the menu is kind of overpriced. The Chevy Chase was $16 for two eggs, potatoes, bacon, and a biscuit. The meal was good but not $16 good. read more
