Great service, friendly faces, and a good old country style menu! I had chicken and dumplings, fried green tomatoes, and cream corn! The dumplings needed some salt and pepper, which I'm assuming is just to make it easy for anyone to enjoy and season as they wish. I had ranch for the fried green tomatoes. It came with the cutest cornbread sticks. And the creamed corn was so tender and sweet. Portions are plentiful and this was a win. Family friendly and plenty of seating. read more

Every time my husband and I come to Lexington, we always go to Ramseys. It could be this location or another but we always go nonetheless. It's one of his favorites from his college days at UK and there you have it. He usually gets anything from the hot brown to the country fried steak. Usually always with corn and mashed potatoes. Sometimes also with the mac and cheese. I usually get something similar with the coleslaw and the collard greens. Basically every single time we come we're always just happy we did it. The food is always good! It's always good home cooking and you never have any regrets, especially after a big slice of pie. We can't do that as much as we used to but it's good to enjoy every now and then. The menu is different from lunch and dinner and it just depends on the time of day. But if you want something smaller you could always ask for the lunch menu as portions are just usually a bit smaller. Prices will also reflect that as well. Good tip to have if you want to not eat as much. Service is usually always good and ambience is always friendly! read more

10/5/24 My husband and I came here for dinner, as we were trying to find a place to go that wasn't a chain. I've only been to Ramsey's one other time but it had been years ago. Also, it was at a complete different location. If you're looking for amazing Southern food with generous portions, Ramsey Diner is the place to go. My husband and I ordered the steak dinner, which came with perfectly seasoned mashed potatoes, crispy fried green tomatoes, creamy mac and cheese, and a side of rich, flavorful chicken livers. Every bite tasted like comfort food at its finest. To top it off, we shared a slice of their decadent peanut butter pie--it was the perfect sweet ending to an incredible meal. This place has Great Southern cooking, hearty portions, and a cozy atmosphere with great wait staff. Everyone was very friendly and welcoming. I've had this place on my list for a while now and finally got a chance to try it this past weekend when I was in town with some friends for the KY State High school Football game. This diner is in close proximity to UK campus and about a 5 minute drive to UK's Kroger Field. Upon entering the inside was nice and cozy feeling, besides the back room we were sat in. That area was a little older and just felt secluded from the rest of restaurant. It had about 6 - 8 additional tables I'm assuming they use this area for busy nights to spread guests out more. Our service was pretty good even though we felt that distance. Our waitress kept checking in with us to make sure we had drinks/re-fills and anything else we needed. The menu is pretty simple -- you have a choice of numerous sandwiches or you can pick from a list of meats and then pick three accompanying sides. They also serve breakfast and have a large list of pies and cheesecake for dessert. I got the fried chicken sandwich with all the toppings and came with a choice of side, mine was fries. The sandwich was huge and they gave a large amount of fries as well. It was served on an onion bun which I love. The chicken was super moist and soft. Honestly, one of the better chicken sandwiches I've had. You can tell the chefs took time to prepare the chicken and cut off any nasty parts someone might not want to ingest. The fries were the perfect texture. Only thing is I wished it came on a bigger plate because there wasn't a lot of room to move things around, but that's just me being a little picky. My girlfriend got the Buffalo chicken sandwich and said it was also really good. That they added the perfect amount of sauce to were it wasn't too much and wasn't too little. My other two friends also enjoyed their meals and said it hit the spot and they'd dine here again. I can definitely see why it's an area favorite. I consider Ramsey's a lexington staple. I first visited in early 2000's when I moved to Lexington and now only have it every few years when I return. I find it very consistent over the years. Good solid southern cuisine and menu. The staff were great this visit. The back of house had some issues getting things out timely it seemed. My food was well seasoned and the breading on the friend chicken breast was ahhhmazing! Sadly, the fried corn was pretty ice cold compared to the rest of the meal. read more

I grew up in Lexington and Ramseys was a favorite of my parents when they lived here. We were in town for the weekend and had to stop in. I love the meat plus three. I did charbroiled pork chops with red sauce and they were as good as I remembered. Fried Parmesan corn was very good. Corn sticks are a must. Door Dash-ed the Chicken Strip Chef Salad with sweet tea. The sweet tea was mediocre, but maybe the ice melted on the way. As for the salad it was fresh. The ranch is made in house and they give you a good amount. No need to order extra dressing. My only complaint was the chicken strips were a lil over cooked or possibly just cooked in old oil. I've eaten there a few times in person in the past, and have always had a good experience with large portions. Definitely recommend! read more

Hubby had pot roast w/ carrots, pinto beans, kale greens, Parmesan deep fried corn on the cob. Everything was excellent! We got 2 slices of pie to go. Water w/ lemon for me & sweet tea for Hubby. This year for Thanksgiving, my wife and I decided to order our meal from Ramsey's since it would just be the two of us eating at our house. My mother had just passed away from her battle with Cancer a few weeks prior and we just didn't feel like having a bunch of people over. A couple of times over the 20+ years that my wife and I have been together, we had ordered Thanksgiving meals from Bob Evans, and Cracker Barrel and we're disappointed. We received a flier on our bag when we ordered take out from Ramsey's and decided to order from them this year. The meal was absolutely perfect. The taste of all the food was amazing, and the turkey slices were so tender and juicy. I told my wife several times while eating how good all the food was and she agreed. We ordered the 4 person meal and I think we could have served 8 people because we ate on this meal the next two days for lunch and supper. I highly recommend Ramsey's for your Thanksgiving meal next year and we will definitely order this meal again. Didn't leave a review after my last bad experience because I was hoping it was a fluke. Sadly, a second blah trip seems to confirm it wasn't a one-time event. Ordered the meat and three - meatloaf, fried okra, mashed potatoes, and green beans. The meatloaf was dry with little sauce. The side of ketchup they provided. was not a good substitute. The fried okra was absolutely devoid of any flavor - the breading was just plain. The mashed potatoes were alright but the gravy was extremely salty and overcooked. We ordered a bunch of different foods to try which were all really good and also really liked how they had pie to eat for dessert which were also delicious. While visiting family at the University of Kentucky, decided to have some comfort food and was recommended to try Ramsey's. We showed up about 6:30pm on a Friday evening. The restaurant was fairly crowded, but our group of 3 was seated right away. The appearance is very pleasant and very family friendly with several large family tables around the dining room. The bar area was nice and cozy, and again crowded. After being seated by the host, within a couple minutes was greeted by our server. She was very friendly and asked if we had any questions on the menu while also taking our drink order. The menu has a lot of choices of home-style entrees with a ton of veggies and sides. No shortage of choices. Our water and drinks came quickly. We put in our order and given the crowd, I was expecting to wait for our food. But within about 10 mins our plates came out. The food was super hot and freshly cooked. The plates were very full with good portion entrees. I had the grilled pork chops with 3 sides; fries, green beans, and stewed tomatoes. There were 2 chops, not overly thick, nicely cooked. Not undercooked, tender, but not overcooked either. They came with a red sauce which was similar to a mild ketchup-based BBQ sauce. These pork chops were super tasty and reminded me of St. Louis style Pork Steaks in flavor. Very good. The sides were well seasoned and delicious. We had 2 other entrees at the table. The Buffalo Chicken was 2 large pieces of white meat, and the Chicken & Dumplings was a large portion bowl, obviously home-made with a lot of chicken meat and perfect dumplings. Overall, very good restaurant with yummy food and family friendly prices. We will go back on our next visit to the area. Great job! read more

I stopped in for lunch and was seated right away. My waitress was very attentive and friendly. I asked her between the Hot Brown or the open face turkey sandwich and she asked if I was from KY. I told her I wasn't but heard that Hot Browns were a thing. She said they were and that I should try it, so that's what I ordered. The food came out right away and it was a very impressive dish. Everything tasted good, it just wasn't my cup of tea. I will definitely be back to try something else. The staff was great and the place was very clean. Overall a very good experience. read more

I've enjoyed Ramseys Yogi Chef Salad many times. today, though, it looked hurriedly thrown together and had only 3 strips of chicken. what a disappointment. also, the quality of presentation of the Meat and 3 I've ordered has gotten progressively worse, vegetables hanging out of containers and size of chicken breasts vary from order to order. There is nothing that I have been particularly impressed by or that I crave and want to make a return trip to order, but it's a pleasant experience. I appreciate the availability of several foods representative of this area, which make it a fun, casual option when people are visiting from out of town. I also consistently have enough food for a satisfying meal there and enough leftover to take home for a meal the next day, so I think prices are pretty good for the amount of food you get. I'm so disappointed in Ramsey's! we ordered $100 worth of food and none of it was edible. There is no seasoning on the food at all, not even salt and pepper. The macaroni and cheese was either a few days old or from a box. The corn muffins are awful, and the cream corn is from a can. The bacon on our salad is completely burned, the salad is brown and wilted, and you can tell the tomatoes have been in the refrigerator for a while. This tells me that the salads sit in the fridge indefinitely until someone orders one. Total waste of money! Praying we don't get food poisoning from this! read more

I was visiting Lexington and my brother brought me here for the hot brown sandwich. He said he was told it was the best in the city, although he really didn't need it. The place is cute with a country vibe. We were seated right away on the patio which was very nice. Our server was very prompt and efficient. My brother ordered a fried chicken salad. It was very large with a lot of crispy fried chicken on it. Nice salad. I of course, ordered the hot Kentucky brown. This is a sandwich I have had a couple of times previously and other places. I have to say I was very disappointed. The whole sandwich was covered in cheddar cheese that was totally over melted. It was a block of cheese that was not creamy at all. The inside of the sandwich was kind of mushy. The ham and turkey were a good quality but totally lost in the cheddar cheese. I could not taste any Mornay sauce at all. I was in town for a conference. This looked like the only locally owned and non-chain place near my hotel, and I didn't have a car. It was nice that they had (covered) outdoor seating as it was a nice night and it felt good to feel the breeze. The place looked crowded. The menu looked better than the food tasted. I ordered the meat and 3 "veggies." By veggies, they mean sides, as the list includes mac and cheese. I ordered the bbq chicken, with fried okra, mashed potatoes, and the corn, tomato, and okra mix. Only the chicken and potatoes were good. The fried okra was lukewarm -- clearly it had been sitting out for a while. The okra mix was awful. It had no taste and some of the veggies did not seem fresh. The gravy on the mashed potatoes was quite good. They serve no beers on tap -- only can -- despite the fact that they have a bar on the premises. Then it was time to order dessert and they were out of the first one I picked -- their version of Derby Pie. My waiter was ok but he was awkward and slow to give me the check. I am unlikely to return if I am ever back in Lexington. read more

Came here with my daughter while we were in the area. Seated immediately and order taken promptly. I had chosen this place because of wanting to try the Kentucky Hot Brown and my daughter was interested in the vegetable plate. Having not had the Hot Brown before, I can definitely see why it is my uncle's favorite dish now. Open Faced Ham & Turkey on Texas Toast covered with Mornay Sauce and a liberal amount of Cheddar, topped with Bacon and Tomato. The dish is then Broiled until nice and bubbly. My daughter chose Parmesan Deep Fried Corn on the Cob, Potato Salad, Cole Slaw and Fried Okra for her Veggie Plate. She is a big fan of corn on the cob and was really looking forward to it. She thought it was good but not exactly what she was expecting. Her potato salad and Cole slaw were also good. The okra on the other hand she was very disappointed in and thought it was over cooked and too dry. After asking the server, she replaced it with French Fries that were more to her liking with no problem. We took our Pecan Pie to go for later back at the hotel. The serving was plenty large enough to share. Overall service was really good and most of the food excellent.
