When I was a student at UK, this was the place for students. They have many good alternatives and they are offered until late, including burgers, loaded fries, and breakfast favorites. I always get the Mega HO Burger, which is a 3/4 lb Triple Burger with all the dressings. All their burgers are made with fresh daily ground beef. My second favorite is the Philly Steak Sandwich, with swiss, mushrooms, peppers oniongs, lettuce sna dhte house sauce. My wife always got the special fried chicken sandwich, which comes with hanarneo cheese, jalapenos, lettuce, tommatoe and mayo. We either get the crinkle-cut fries or the tots as sides. In addition to being roomy and tidy, the interior had several vintage games. This place is excellent for both big and small parties (particularly after a late night). The service has always been friendly and timely. Overall the prices were a little too pricey for a place like this on a college student's budget but the food was delicious and the amounts were substantial. I would still suggest it and will probably come back. There is a rumor, however, that this place may be closing in the near future. read more

Great for groups large or small (especially after a late night). Service was friendly and prompt. This is a fun place because of the nostalgia. In my lifetime "The Ho" has been in 3 different locations. This is a place with easy parking for "old alumni" but not really walkable from campus. We stopped in for a Saturday afternoon lunch. My burger was dry but with a nicely toasted bun and a good amount of toppings. As I remember the old locations to have great juicy greasy burgers. It was really clean, that hasn't been the case in some past locations. Loved the cheddar tots. The sodas were self serve so you did not have to ask for or pay for refills. I stopped in for a late lunch. I had their version of a triple cheese burger along with an order of onion rings and a strawberry shake. Culver's need not worry about any competition here. The burger had to of been pressed down while frying as it was dry in the trio. Not a bad burger, just not good either. The onion rings could use a grease change in the vat. I found them underwhelming and little actual onion in the ring. Unfortunately the breading wasn't that good either. The strawberry shake was probably the best of the three but comparing it to others offered in today's market place I would put it at a 6. No reason to return unless I was out at 2am and needed to soak up some alcohol. read more

Back in the day, this place got me through college. Nowadays, it's a shadow of its former glory, unfortunately. It has changed locations over the years, and had to raise prices substantially to stay afloat. Sadly, my last visit recently proved that the quality of the food still hasn't rebounded yet. The service was pleasant, albeit a bit slow. The seating and dining experience has never been great at any of the locations over the years, so I don't count that against them. You're there for the food, not the seating...so hopefully they can get the food quality back up soon. Will be checking back with them again. read more

Not for the price. This late-night college fave is not the place to go for the value, when you have the need to recoat your stomach and rehydrate with salty food. While the staff work hard to serve you, the burgers have steadily gotten unsatisfying for the final stop of the bar-crawl. The big advantage is how close it is to the college-bar scene. They need to stay close to this when the location closes and when/if they move. read more

6/17/2019 I came here late on a Sunday evening and ordered a tolly ho and some chili cheese fries. Everything was delicious and hot. Service was quick and friendly. I would definitely recommend this place for future meals. This is a great place especially if you want something more along the fast food chain type of meal like a burger and fries without the fast food taste. The food is prepped once your order is placed. It's usually ready within a few minutes. The staff is super friendly, and it's especially an essential place to eat when you realize you're starving at 3 am and you're not in the mood for Denny's or Waffle House. My first stop in the Lexington area, since my drive took a little longer than expected. I arrived a lot later than I expected and I because I drove straight through I was pretty hungry. My friend lives out in the burbs where the options are pretty limited so we drove into the city pretty late to get a bite to eat. I got the Super-Ho, and went all out and got the chili-cheese fries with jalapenos. For a late Friday evening it was surprisingly quiet, which I wouldn't expect from late night place after the bars have closed. We went for breakfast on Tuesday morning. The first really notable thing is the prices have gone up A LOT. First of all, it was freezing in there. Fortunately l was wearing a coat; as a rule, I tend to be too warm. I got my usual: a veggie omelet. It was wonderful. They only had white bread for the toast, instead of the usual offerings of wheat or sourdough. The last location also had raisin bread which was what l always got. My husband and I also ordered extra crispy hash browns with onions as we always do. When they came out, they looked perfect except they forgot the onions. Flavor-wise, they were awful. I'll venture to guess they were fried in really old grease. What a letdown, especially considering how expensive they've become. My husband got bacon and scrambled eggs which were as good as usual. The counter guy was super nice, and actually brought our trays to the table, which was unexpected. In the women's restroom, in the handicapped stall (I am fortunately not handicapped, but that was the open stall), the toilet paper was 2 1/2 feet from the toilet. NO WAY could l have reached it if l truly were handicapped. I'm 5'4", so average height. After having eaten at all Tolly-Ho locations over close to 50 years, since my teens. I think l may not return due to the combination of price and all the little details, after all, eating out should be relaxing. read more

A sluggish Sunday afternoon led Fat Man Reviews to Tally-Ho in Lexington, KY. Tally-Ho is a burger and breakfast joint that has been a Lexington tradition since 1971. I had a Super-Ho with fries. The Super-Ho is a 1/2 pound double patty burger on a lightly toasted sesame seed bun. I had it with American cheese, lettuce tomato, onion and mayo. You can customize the burger with different cheeses(American, Swiss, habanero and cheddar) as well as lots of other toppings(ketchup, mustard, Ho sauce, onion, lettuce, pickle, bacon, fried egg, BBQ or ranch). The veggies were fresh, the burger was juicy, kinda greasy and cooked well. It's always a good sign when some grease drips off of the burger. The bun was fresh, held up well to the burger and the sandwich had a good burger to bun ratio. The fries were frozen from a bag, but they were cooked crispy and seasoned well. The meal was excellent, but I wish they melted the cheese on the burger before serving it. The burger could also use a bit of salt and pepper when cooking. My fiancé tried a Tally-Ho burger with and cheese fries. She had lettuce, American cheese, tomato, pickle and mayo on hers. Again the burger was cooked well, the bun was fresh, and the fries were cooked and seasoned correctly. The cheese sauce tasted like a processed sauce that came from a can, not unlike a cheese whiz type of sauce. It had a slight creaminess to it and there is a good amount added to the fries. Tally-Ho offers several breakfast items, including sandwiches, omelettes, pancakes and French toast. They also serve sandwiches along with their burgers. Bottled or canned beer is available, and they have some pinball and video games to enjoy. The Fat Man says that Tally-Ho is Fat Man Approved. read more

Kind of a ways away from other establishments, but theres parking. The area itself isnt that safe at night, and I live right by and refuse to walk there after sundown. I'm an old guy so this is my 4th(!) Tolly Ho location visit. The Great: best burger in Lexington! The Good: Fries, Tots, Breakfast, Shakes. The Ugly: $3 for cheese and $.50 for self serve tap water is not a good look. Shakes are almost $7 but that counts as dessert as well as drink so we can let that slide. Where do I even begin? Well, I had not been here in years and I found myself here after a friend wanted to get a meal late in the evening. Shockingly, at around 1:30 am, this place was fairly busy, so there's that . . . This place to put it nicely has fallen off a cliff. This place was known for a few things, a place to get a nice meal at a decent price late in the evening and also a place to get quite frankly some of the best milkshakes in town. For transparency, I got the Super-Ho, which is their double patty burger with onions, lettuce, mustard, ketchup and their signature sauce, onion rings and a Strawberry Milkshake. The onion rings were great! Seasoned well and fried to a crispy golden brown. The milk shake was also great! Nice, smooth and sweet, loved it! That's were the positives end. The food took way too long to get out, which honestly I am not terribly mad about but my burger was a mess. Not seasoned in the slightest, soggy and on top of everything had a hair struck to the bottom, which I am happy didn't end up in my mouth. The portion sizes have shrunk so much through out the years, which I will be honest I don't know when that became the case. If I am paying over 5 dollars for onion rings, I am expecting a plateful of them, and not just a few next to my burger. The shakes are now also served at half the size I recall them being much larger. Just so disappointed. Even though it is a part of the college culture and tradition here at the University of Kentucky, its hard for me to recommend this place. read more

Full disclosure... I've only been here once, and it was during Lexington Burger Week. The only thing that I wasn't a fan of, was the fact that you can't order the Burger Week, H'angry Ho, to go. Their normal menu consists of things like the Tolly-Ho family of burgers that include the Tolly-Ho quarter-pounder, the Super-Ho, the Mega-Ho and the Big Tolly. Besides the witty named burgers, they also have other sandwiches and breakfasts served 24 hours a day. Parking is simple, they have their own lot to the side, so even those it's in downtown Lexington, that isn't an issue to worry about, or to keep you from stopping by this Lexington staple. They've been open for over 40 years. They moved to this forth location, on South Broadway, in 2011. They're known well in the college scene and by those of us who are out and about after normal hours looking for some food to sober up on. Back to the H'angry Ho, with a third pound patty dressed to style with sweet chili sauce, bread and butter pickles, Swiss cheese, bacon and cheddar tots. Dang, that thing was messy... in a good way though. Be prepared to clean up after eating it. I was impressed with the cheddar tots... those are definitely something I'd order on the regular. They moved from the original location a few yrs back and still managed to keep the menu and vibe going. It's a college hangout that has good food for a very reasonable price. Milkshakes made with ice cream (a big thing with me). Chili, cheese, bacon, and jalapeño fries.....what else do ya need on them? Perfect. Best French toast around. Oh and try a ho-burger or a triple ho if you're drunk and hungry. They are open Wednesday to Monday night 24hrs. I have never set foot in this place, but as my workday progressed today, I figured I'd DoorDash food to my work vehicle (didn't know if you could do that ‍). I checked various places & estimated delivery times. I selected an address where I would be at that approximate time. I decided to try Tolly Ho. Ordered a regular burger with bacon and habanero cheese, all the fixins'. Oh, and an order of fries. I notified my dasher (Amanda) that I would be at that location but I'm in my work vehicle. She thanked me for letting her know and she found me (from order to me took 40m). When I was finally able to stop to eat, the food was barely warm. I hate ketchup on burgers and forgot to nix it when I ordered. I was so hyped to try this already, lol. Despite the lack of food temperature, it was so well made, thick bacon, etc and the crinkle fries were awesome. They sent the perfect amount of ketchup for the fries. The Ho burgers have been a bit better the Last two visits but they are very stingy with napkins and ketchup as they were behind the counter. You have to ask for ketchup. They gave me 1 napkin and 3 ketchup packets for 2 burger and fries. I asked if I could buy more ketchup and in response I was given 2 more packets.
