I think I've found my newest favorite restaurant in Lexington! Old Bourbon Country (OBC) Kitchen, is a showstopper! This place is a must for anyone local if you haven't been, and if you're not local, it's seriously worth the trip! There are so many great things I can say about OBC, the service is phenomenal; professional, amazing recommendations, and they go out of their way to give you an unforgettable experience! Their bourbon selection is fantastic; they're guaranteed to have everything you'd want and even some things you haven't tried or been able to find anywhere else. The food is on another level! Starting with with bacon in the glass for the table is a must! This gives you a taste of the quality to come and the peanut butter accompaniment that comes with it works so well! The depth of flavor in the Cola-Braised Short Rib Tacos is unreal & even their rolls are amazing! The Ribeye is cooked to your exact liking; is a very high quality cut, and has a delicious seasoning which is the differentiator for me that makes this one of my favorite steaks I've had in a very long time! I was truly stunned by the incredible bourbon/whiskey selection at OBC. They have over 800 unique options and the talented/educated staff to match in order to guide you through the selection process. The shear number of bottles on the bar will keep your eyes moving about and hard to focus on anything else. For food, I had the wagyu meatballs and couscous salad. Every year, while driving between Chicago and Florida, we make a tradition of stopping in Lexington to take our friend out for dinner. This visit marked our third time at OBC Kitchen, and once again, it did not disappoint. This time we experimented with timing and booked an early reservation at 2:45 pm on a Saturday. We crossed over into the dinner menu and discovered something wonderful: the service and ambiance were even better than the busier evening hours after 6 pm. The staff was exceptionally attentive. Every dish and cocktail option was explained thoughtfully, which I appreciate, especially because I enjoy cocktails that come with a bit of theater. When drinks are presented with care, described well, and executed beautifully, the experience becomes part performance, part craft. Here, they delivered perfectly. The food, as always, was superb. We shared several chef selections including Beef Tallow Fries, Southern Grouper, Bacon in a Glass, and the Cola-Braised Short Ribs. Each dish was rich, flavorful, and confidently executed. Dessert continued the celebration with the Churro Cheesecake, and to our delight we were also gifted the Warm Buttermilk Donuts, which felt like a small act of culinary generosity. In a departure from my usual Manhattan and Old Fashioned flights, I tried a Bloody Mary and The Cure, both excellent and beautifully balanced. At this point I can confidently say OBC Kitchen is one of my favorite restaurants in the country. The consistency, creativity, and hospitality make every visit memorable. First time having brunch here today. As a walk in, it was a 30 minute wait or we could sit at the bar which had open seating. We chose seats at the bar. My wife ordered a Mimosa and I had the Bloody Mary. The smoked glass presentation of my Bloody Mary was a nice touch. I put our name on the list and we were lucky to get a table. I HIGHLY recommend a reservation. I ordered the couscous salad with shrimp, the bacon in a glass, and had a drink the outer rim. Everything was amazing. The bacon was borderline too crisp, but the peanut sauce it paired with was delightful. The couscous salad will be my go to every time, it's that good. The service was fantastic, the server was extremely knowledgeable and they provide each table with an iPad that depicts the menu with a photo of each menu item. This was very helpful and removes the need to use your phone to find yelp photos. The food was delicious and beautifully plated. The hot pimento cheese appetizer is sooo good. A great place for family gatherings and special occasions. Outstanding experience with OBC kitchen. Pure Luck that we discovered this fine establishment. I had struck up a nice conversation with a couple at Angels Envy in Louisville earlier in the day and they told us great things about this restaurant. My wife and I looked at the menu and took the ride. I am so glad we did. OBC must have the largest bourbon selection I have ever seen. So many that they have them listed in categories on an iPad. I just wish they offered half oz pours so I could enjoy more of them. The shrimp and grits were the best we have had. Bacon, Andouille sausage, scrumptious shrimp.....sign me up. We drove three hours from Nashville just to have brunch here and let me tell you... IT DID NOT DISAPPOINT!!! They have over 650 different types of bourbon because after all OBC = Old Bourbon County!! I started off with The Upper East Side a Classic Old Fashion and it was probably the best I've ever had. Then we ordered the Bacon in a Glass. When I say this is a MUST order I mean sit down and order it right away. It's honey bourbon sugar glaze bacon with a peanut butter dipping sauce accompaniment and OMG shut your mouth it's that good. My wife and I both enjoy OBC for a variety of reasons. They do a good brunch and dinner. They change up their specialty cocktail menu regularly with creative themes and cocktails, plus all their standard offerings. They do a $5 Friday special bourbon pour Happy Hour. They serve thick cut bacon in a glass with peanut butter (this alone is 5 stars). Their bourbon/whiskey selection is huge! Oh, and the food is really good. A variety of options. I recently tried the fried chicken for the first time. Not in my Top 5 in Lexington but might crack Top 12. I like sitting at the bar. My wife doesn't. On a Saturday afternoon after a trip to Sam's Club, the Fat Man and his wife headed down Tates Creek Road to OBC Kitchen (Old Bourbon County Kitchen) for an early dinner. OBC is a stylish restaurant offering updated Southern fare, craft beer & an extensive bourbon list. We started with the Bacon in a Glass appetizer. The Bacon was thick-cut and cooked to a salty, crunchy, chewy, fatty texture, and the brown sugar amplified the flavor. The peanut butter sauce adds a creaminess to cut through the saltiness, while not adding extra sweetness. We also sampled the Fried Green Tomatoes. The tomatoes were thick-cut, and the breading was cooked perfectly with a great crunch. The bacon jam offered both a sweet and a heat to the dish, which cut through the herb cheese. The heat lingers and builds the flavor while the cheese gives the dish a creamy, cooling, and flavorful component. The addition of the candied Bacon adds even more flavor. We split the Cola-Braised Short Ribs and added the roasted glazed Brussels sprouts. The grits had a grainy texture, were not as cheesy as I expected, and lacked seasoning. The greens were crunchy and had a nice apple cider vinegar taste, but they were more like a salad than I expected. I thought they would be southern-style greens. The short rib was dry and lacked seasoning, although the slaw gave it texture and a crunch. The Brussels sprouts were bitter and overcooked while flirting with a burnt flavor. Although not pictured, they served salt rolls to start the meal, and they were excellent. OBC serves a menu with starters, salads, entrees, sides, and desserts that they source from many local farms. They have a full menu, seasonally rotating drink menus, and an extensive bourbon selection. The Fat Man says that OBC Kitchen is Fat Man Approved with 1 chin. read more

My husband wants to move to Lexington so he can be closer to this restaurant! We visited on a trip to see the university of Kentucky. We had been driving all day so we weren't really dressed nicely. I hesitated to book a reservation because I wasn't sure whether we would be appropriate. We sat at the high top in the bar area and nobody looked at us twice. It was amazing to be able to book a reservation since we were arriving late (8:30) and we wanted to make sure we could get in somewhere before kitchens started closing. The complementary bread service is absolutely amazing. One daughter and I shared the Parmesan chicken Caprese and they graciously plated it separately before bringing it to the table. It was a perfect serving size to share. My other daughter loves steak and we were so happy to see a reasonably priced kids steak. She was a little worried that it wouldn't be enough food so we also got her the Wagyu meatball appetizer The steak was wonderful, especially since it was a kid steak. They treated it just as well as they did the adult portion. The Wagyu meatballs were a wonderful appetizer, and the marinara sauce was really yummy. My husband ordered the chicken fried steak and he said it was the best he has ever had in his life. It was so good that he took leftovers to our hotel and had a cold chicken fried steak sandwich on a leftover roll for breakfast. I shared the Rickhouse salad with my daughter. This was the only slight stumble. There were so many toppings on the salad and not quite enough lettuce, so it was kind of heavy and low on the vegetable scale. They have an excellent selection of Bourbons, including bourbon flights. They are living up to their Old Bourbon Country name. This place was recommended to me for brunch or dinner when coming to lex for a weekend. We decided to do brunch and it was definitely a great rec. we made a reservation but there were seats available at the bar if you don't. The restaurant has an upscale feel but isnt stuffy at all. I had the milk and sugar drink which was amazing. It's advertised as a deconstructed White Russian but it is kind of like a cross between a White Russian and an espresso martini. This place had been on my list of places in Lexington to check out for a long time. We finally got a chance to stop in when a friend was in the area. We enjoyed a really nice brunch. Out of all the items in the brunch menu, the Birria Burito was calling my name the most. While the burrito was pretty tasty, I was a little disappointed with the portion size, and I left hungry. Everyone else really enjoyed their meal. The place seems like it's pretty swanky, and we were definitely not dressed for it. It's like a place to go to celebrate your grandpa's birthday. We sat outside at the patio, feeling a little bad about even thinking about sitting inside. Otherwise, the staff was pretty nice. Overall, good experience.
