I had a great last minute bday dinner here. We found ourselves oot for some family celebration and needed a good meal. OBC came through and provided some nice memories. Due to my egg and dairy allergy I struggled with the menu quite a bit but did my best given the circumstances. I wasn't really in the mood for bourbon but my mom was kind enough to share some la Marca with me and that was delightful. I was however truly annoyed by the "check out out iPad experience." It was really an mis match for the dark library esque romantic vibes for me. The last thing I want to do is look at a screen at dinner! We started with the iconic maple bacon, it was fun to try but ours seemed a little over. Our party liked trying the PB sauce but it wasn't for me. The little bread rolls they brought out were fresh and very delightful. After I inhaled an entire roll , later the server tells me they are dusted with cheese. This seems like a missed opportunity as I disclosed my allergies when starting our meal with the server. My parents both ordered the halibut and really enjoyed it, I had the short ribs which I though were just okay- a little dry- the greens were lovely - I came to order the scallops but the server said the risotto had too much diary, ... I should have ordered the ribeye but I didn't think I would finish the whole thing before my early flight. Le sigh. Babe loved his wagu bacon cheese burger. OBC Kitchen is probably my favorite restaurant in all of Kentucky. When you walk in, you are immediately greeted with southern hospitality. At night, the bottles on the bar illuminate beautifully. The restaurant was full, tables were reasonably spread out, the seats were comfortable, and acoustics were good. Everything we ordered was incredibly delicious. I love that they have a tablet with pictures of all of the menu items as I am very visual. Food highlights included candied bacon with peanut butter and shrimp and grits. All of the cocktails were delightfully creative. I always enjoy sampling a variety of foods and drinks, so the Virgin v2 bourbon flight was a perfect sampling of bourbon! read more

Visiting Lexington for the holidays and decided to try somewhere "new to us". We've been to the other BGH restaurants so I expected a good meal. What I didn't expect was one of the best dining experiences in a long time. First, our server, Truman, was very attentive and gave great recommendations. Our drinks were unique and flavorful. Jar Jar's Jam Session is a must try - with the spiced cranberry jam putting it over the top! The food was equally great and the serving sizes are just right. A personal favorite experience! I recently completed a trip to bourbon country and looked for a birthday dinner spot to celebrate. OBC was recommended at a bourbon lottery event, in Chicago, by someone else. I owe that man a drink! The bacon in a glass was a 50/10! My wife loved her goat cheese and strawberry salad and my pork chop was phenomenal. The bourbon menu blew every expectation out of the water! They employ a tablet to keep up with the selection and pours were reasonable. Lastly the service rivals a Chicago or New York steak house and is the true definition of southern hospitality. We really enjoyed OBC Kitchen. We were visiting Nashville from California for a convention and decided to trip over to Kentucky and did not regret it one bit. The food was good and the bourbon was exceptional. They had pretty much every bourbon you could ever ask for....the entire BTAC collection, all years of the van winkle collection and the full array of Weller bourbons to name a few. The waitstaff was excellent, very helpful and attentive too. We even were lucky enough to score some Weller 107 store pick bottles to go as well which made the experience that much better. Everything I've had at OBC is absolutely excellent. I've been here a few times for drinks, dinner, and most recently brunch. Each time was a spectacular experience! The lighting is dim and the ambiance is cozy and elevated. The space is not huge, which makes it feel exclusive. For brunch, as soon as you sit down, you're served with a basket of warm rolls and biscuits with butter and jam. My group had the short rib hash, shrimp and grits, steak and eggs -- all were decadent and every last bite was savored. To top it off, the warm buttermilk donuts were perfect for sharing and satisfied our sweet tooth. They are only open for dinner on weekdays and extended hours on weekends. Our first trip to Lexington, stopped at OBC Kitchen on the way out for brunch on the recommendation of many locals and regular tourists we encountered during our travels around the city. We made reservations in a hurry and were fortunate to land a table, arrived early and were delighted we could be sat before our reservation. From what I've been reading, apparently we got super lucky with that outcome. Overall, an absolutely spectacular experience. Staff and service were exceptional: very welcoming, professional, attentive and accommodating. Our server Baylor was incredible, a very polite and knowledgeable gentleman. Went out of his way to ensure our experience was of the highest quality and a memorable one. What resonated most to me was his attention and accommodation to my food allergies. Might not appeal to everybody, but, I have severe peanut/tree nut/shellfish allergies and he was very diligent in ensuring food safety regarding the menu and communication with the kitchen staff. It was a really validating effort and my girlfriend and I are very appreciative of that, a lot of restaurants/servers these days handle allergen requests as a grey area or afterthought. The manager also stopped by our table to follow up, felt very inviting. The brunch menu offered many options that are thoughtfully-executed. My wagyu burger was immaculate. Food was delicious: came out hot, good portion size/presentation and very generously priced. It's very apparent the kitchen strives to maintain high-quality and fresh ingredients. Ambiance was fantastic as well. A very comfortable hybrid of an upscale gastropub and a Kentucky whiskey bar: fancy but also a casual experience that was unique and matched the top tier food and service. Restaurant was tastefully decorated, lighting was low but not in a way where it was too dark, and floors/tables were spotless. For whiskey/bourbon enthusiasts, the pour list is the most diverse I've ever personally experienced. Eye opening to see what a difference in bourbon offerings a 2 hour drive between Ohio and Kentucky can make Summary: A world-class experience, would absolutely recommend to anybody visiting or even driving through Lexington, we are very appreciative of the staff and their extra accommodation, will definitely be returning again to try the dinner menu read more

Most wonderful eating experience. The cocktails are plentiful and incredibly creative!!! Went for appetizers as the reservations for dinner were full. I had the tacos, brussel sprouts, and meatballs. The flavor and texture for each dish was exquisite and so well balanced. The bread under the meatballs made these stand out a bit (even though meatballs aren't my preference the flavour was on par and I can recommend). The tacos were out of this world - one of the best meals I've eaten in my life. There was cream, crunch, softness, there was everything. What an excellent experience! The brussel sprouts were like many I've had before at comparable restaurants and hit the flavor and texture mark. The bread that came out before the meal was less impressive to me, especially considering how excellent the other dishes were. Very clean, wonderfully warm ambience, lovely employees, and great service. I do find the experience of the menus to be odd, but that wouldn't ever hinder me from returning. Our waiter, Elijah, was fantastic and helped us with the whole process. My wife and I started with a neat pour: she had Knob Creek Barrel Rested Rye and I had Michter's Small Batch. Both were excellent and a full 2 oz pour. For food we split an order of the Cola Braised Beef Ribs (think fantastic pot roast) and the Shrimp & Gnocchi plate. Nothing against the Shrimp & Gnocchi but the Braised Beef Ribs are amazing. In all honesty, the Cola Braised Beef ribs are the best thing we had on our trip. This is a traditional bourbon bar and restaurant just outside of Lexington. Many bottles of hard to find bourbons and scotch. I decided to sit at the bar. I was driving so I settled for a beer instead of a flight of bourbon. I ordered Seared Halibut and smoked Mac N cheese. The halibut was a very small portion size for the price and the sauce that the halibut had a strange sweet taste. The Mac n cheese was good and with the right main course would have paired well. The restaurant was too dimly lit for my taste and the restaurant was not as inviting as I would have liked. The portion size of the halibut and the less than inviting atmosphere adds this place to my "One & Done" list. read more

We happen to be here on a Saturday night during Lexington restaurant week, so my wife and I each ordered a price fixe meal and shared everything! Came here with a larger group as we made our way across the state on a Bourbon Trail trip. Had heard such good things about this spot, and lucked out with a later evening dinner reservation. Not surprisingly, they had an incredibly extensive bourbon menu, and their cocktail choices were sophisticated and unique. Everyone loved their selections. As we sipped on the drinks and a super-full restaurant, our server brought out several baskets of their yeast rolls along with a heavenly butter spread to put on top. Damn, these things were pillowy, warm and to die for. Wish I could have eaten a thousand of 'em, but we hadn't even started the actual meal yet! For our two dinners, we chose the following items: pimento cheese dip, caprese salad, pork tenderloin, shrimp-n-grits, key lime tart, Mexican chocolate brownies. We also ordered a bacon in a glass appetizer (separate from the price fixe menu, for the entire table to share). Everyone agreed that the baked bacon coated in a honey bourbon sugar glaze and accompanied by a gooey peanut butter dip was possibly the best dish of the entire meal...so friggin' good! Our price fixe meals came in three courses. First course (appetizers) had a light, lovely caprese salad and a small portion of one of their signature apps in the hot baked pimento cheese and bacon dip. That dish was accompanied by crispy slices of toasted sourdough bread and another dish we could not get enough of. The second (main) course had us dining on shrimp-n-grits for my wife and the sliced pork tenderloin for me. The shrimp dish had huge slices of grilled andouille sausage, smoked bacon chunks, cheesy creamy grits and a spicy creole sauce. Just delish! The charred pork loin I had was served with a grainy mustard and a side of wilted greens. They paired so well together! Our final and third (dessert) course offered us a small key lime tart served atop a graham cracker crust and a dollop of whipped cream (as it should be...no regular crust or meringue!) as well as a fantastic flourless brownie served with a Mexican spiced ganache, sliced toasted almonds and a bit of whipped ream. What a fantastic gastronomic experience in a lively and colorful atmosphere. Will most certainly return here on another trip to Lexington! read more

I rarely go out of my way to leave reviews but this one was a must. The food is absolutely phenomenal, almost everything is made in house and you can tell. The craftsmanship and love put into the cocktails and bites does not go unnoticed. Service was also 10/10 - they were able to give detailed info on all the drinks and dishes. We tried the bacon in a glass (the peanut butter is so good), house salad (shockingly amazing lol), and the steak and cake. The steak was juicy and cooked to perfection, crab cake had loads of crab meat in it and was fresh. Cocktails are amazing as well - tons of selection and a seasonal menu. We popped in for brunch on a Sunday at 11:00. We were seated promptly but unfortunately had no silverware so when our biscuits arrived and couldn't enjoy them warm. Our server was great but bar service was super slow. We waited 10+ minutes for a can of beer and a mimosa. He ended up going to get the beer himself. They could definitely improve there.
