This is a little place 4 or 5 miles out of town, on a country road. Small town diner feel with so much in the menu that looks good, I couldn't decide what to get! I can only speak about the beer cheese as I was busily doing the Beer Cheese Trail. Jamie was the super friendly owner who assured us that she was very particular about her cheese and thought we might like hers best. Well, we haven't had them all yet, but, we do love her cheese. It had a wonderful little spice flavor and was served with pretzels (great choice), Corn Chips (acted as great scoopers), and butter pickles (makes for a sweet combo with the cheese). I had the Pastrami melt, which was outstanding, and my wife had the hamburger, which was also amazing. Shared a cup of soup beans ... which may be the best around. First of all, if you weren't specifically looking for this place you would never know it's here. There's no sign on the highway. I stopped in here around 1pm for lunch and the parking lot was still pretty full which I took as a good sign. JK's is only open for lunch and the menu is not elaborate but with a good selection of sandwiches, soups, salads, and daily specials. If you love pimento cheese this is the place for you - several options include this food of the Southern Gods along with country ham. I had the soup beans (pintos) and slaw. My friend got the turkey and cranberry sandwich and the banana pudding was also sampled. All were good though the banana pudding seemed short on bananas. If you are looking for a local favorite with an authentic feel and good food, this is the place for you. read more

While ordering I got a great story from what seem to be the owner, as he said bye to everyone coming and going. Premeal, we watched the locals just chitchat... love the ambience. Food was delicious and worth the price... best described as "home fixins". Next time I'm getting the veggie plate because the green beans reminded me of my mom's bacon-fat stewed green beans from my childhood. This is the kind of place I've been looking for a while here here in Kentucky. This is your down-home family cooking that I've come to love over my lifetime. I'm really happy I found this place I got to try it. Do you want to talk about good food at a good price this is definitely the place you want to be. I land up getting a biscuit with ham and egg on it with cheese and biscuits and gravy. I was very happy with my choice. And it all cost me about $6 for this meal. The people on this restaurant were very polite and helpful on what I was ordering. I really like the set up of this place it feels like you're sitting at home eating breakfast with your family. This will become one of my new destinations now to just go and sit down and eat and relax. The only downside to this is their not open for dinner but it out for breakfast and lunch it's still worth it all the way. read more

I really enjoy this place. I haven't been in a while but I always enjoy it. It's not the most amazing food but you can tell they care about what they do and always make you feel welcome. Their Ale 8s are in one of the old school coolers and are so cold they freeze when opened. I recommend after a Saturday morning walk to get here and have coffee and lunch/brunch. read more

We had the fried chicken sandwich, a hot brown, a beer cheese burger, and the mixed fruit salad. All of it was excellent! This is a quality meal. I had the hot brown burger and it was fantastic. If you want an Ice cold Ale8 it's in the old chest freezer. The staff was very friendly and polite. There's not a ton of seating and it reminds me of an old country store rather than a restaurant however, I have never had such good food in a country store before. I had the Hot Brown, and it was better than the one I had in the Brown Hotel. It was that good. Perfectly cooked turkey breast, just enough country ham, fresh tomato, and the real key to a hot brown, a PERFECT sauce!!
