Lexingtons hidden gem! This place is AMAZING! Best sandwich shop I've ever been to! Word of mouth is their best friend because you would never know about this place it's so tucked away. The line is always long and the service is always outstanding. Everyone is always so nice and helpful. They have patio seating and while it might not look like there is seating inside there is actually seating throughout the area inside and an entire room next door. If they have tomato soup, GET IT! You can't go wrong with any of their sandwiches. They have their staple menu of sandwiches they have all the time but they also have rotating sandwiches each day. I love the Farmhouse on Mondays and the Rachel on Thursdays. The #5 is delicious as well with the side of au jus. Stopped by this hidden gem for the first time for lunch a couple weeks ago. It's located in a small shopping center and it's very popular judging by the line! They are very friendly and efficient and the line moves quickly. Dad himself was greeting folks in the line, answering questions about the menu and facilitating takeout orders by bringing the food to those waiting. I ordered takeout for myself , my husband and our friend. We had the special of the day cuban sandwiches. Our friend had a chicken club and we all wanted to try the chili. We followed the five star reviews to this hole-in-the-wall for lunch while visiting Lexington. Love to try where the locals go when we travel. We arrived a few minutes before their 11am opening time on a Tuesday and waited in the small line. When they did open it felt like they were off to a bit of a slow start. For instance, they were replacing things under the drink machine that kept folks from getting drinks for a bit. It was Taco Tuesday but we wanted to try their infamous sandwiches. Husband got their Roast Beef with au jus and I tried the smoked pimento cheese BLT. Order, pay, get your drink (diet coke for Husband, unsweetened iced tea for me) and go find a place to land. At first we thought our only choice was a table either outside (which was a no go for us in the Lexington heat), or a table in the hallway by the laundry services, where it was warm and didn't smell exactly appetizing. Then we realized there was a whole dining room. Yeah! Much more appealing place to eat. They have a runner who calls out your name and brings your food. We told them we were eating there, but they packed ours to go, which was fine but seemed like a waste of a lot of packaging. Husband's roast beef was lean and delicious. Au jus nice and warm with great flavor. My smoked pimento cheese BLT was good, but I didn't taste anything smoky. Added some of Dad's terrific hot sauce and it added a nice little kick. read more

Finally made my way to Dad's after hearing so many good things. I was a bit lost trying to find it--tip is drive behind Big Lots!--until I saw some cars. Signage is a bit sparse. However when I walked in, I could tell they have a cult following. I asked the woman in front of me for her favs and just copied her order. The Monday special farmhouse sandwich on white is a fantastic lunch. Loved that everything tasted fresh and the sandwiches were cut in half and put in foil. Even after an hour, they were still tasty. I was on Spring Break last week (woot! Adult Spring Break!) and so I could easily venture to the other side of town to eat at Dad's. This place has been on my list for a long time and I have to say I was NOT disappointed. I have eaten a variety of their spreads over the years but I was excited to try the sandwiches. Easy free parking! Totally Groovy older strip center! I am in! The staff was so kind, when I said I was a newbie, the person taking the orders explained the menu and told me they were having a Hot Italian Sandwich for the first time that day, and I was in! They also has homemade zuppa soup! I clearly came to the right place. The sandwich had roast beef and corned beef and were served with an awesome au jus! While the bread was soft with just a bit of bit to the crust that lovey slightly salty dipping juice was perfect. The soup had just a hit of spice heat to it, I could take a bath in that stuff. While this was my first trip it will not be the last. I loved eating out in the "mall hall" in the groovy 70s vibe. Great food, great staff, good times! read more

We tried Dad's Favorites for lunch. I've never been here before, and I was in the area. I'm so I'm glad that I stopped by! The Monday special is The Farmhouse sandwich. I knew it must be good because I heard (what I assume was one of the owners or the manager) talking to another gentleman who said, "I will go out of my way every Monday for a Farmhouse. The manager then greeted and asked if we had ever been there before and gave us a great synopsis of the menu and the daily specials. Let me say, they were crazy busy, lots of things were going on (including training new employees), and he took the time to help us decide. That itself speaks volumes to me. The patient and personal touch is what it's all about! So, as you can deduct, I had the Farmhouse ($9.50), which had Dad's Chicken Salad and Dad's Pimento Cheese, served on white or wheat toast with bacon, lettuce, and tomato. Oh my gosh! This was absolutely amazing! Every bite slowly uncovered layers of delicious flavor. Let me be honest, when I heard pimento cheese on top of chicken salad, I really wasn't sure, but one bite and I was convinced! I had the pasta salad as my side. It's made in-house and just as delicious as the Farmhouse! My wife had the Chicken Tortellini soup, which she said was very good. Big chunks of chicken breast and full of flavor. We did arrive a little before 12 noon, and it turns out it was a good decision because they do get a crowd for lunch. However, there is plenty of seating and service is fast and very friendly. Next time we are anywhere near Dave's, we will definitely be stopping here for lunch. I went to Dads for the first time with my daughter today. What a great place to eat. The sandwiches are excellent. My daughter informed me of the proper way to eat the sandwich with the beer cheese and hot sauce! The Mac n cheese and etouffe side dishes are out of this world!! If you've ever watched 30 Rock and remember the episode, "Sandwich Day", the Asiago Pot Roast tastes like those sandwiches look. The sandwich itself is incredible with slow cooked seasoned pot roast, asiago cheese on a soft and warm French roll.... but the roasted red pepper dipping sauce completes the meal perfectly and fills the craving for a sandwich with dipping sauce. Dad's Favorites is legitimately one of the best sandwich shoppes in the country and rivals any New York or Philly deli. They are the kindest people I have ever met! i did not realize that the sandwich I ordered has ranch on it and I really dislike ranch. This small local sandwich place had a few picnic tables set up outside, and some tables in a hall in this building around of the other little businesses there. It was hidden in the back, but clearly the secret is out as it was crowded. From a vegetarian perspective, most of the menu was not for me. However, when I ordered a veggie sandwich, it evinced a choice of different breads and cheese spreads, and I was given the clear options of which veggies to include or even add, a level of customization and explanation that I appreciated. I took their recommendation and got a robust-looking roll and whatever cheese spread they wanted. The peppers I added were pickled (making me glad I had left out the normal pickles) but the other vegetables were fresh and crisp and combined with the bread and cheese for an excellent mix of flavors and textures. I took the option of a local Ale-8-one soda (which was pretty much like ginger ale). The titular dad was buzzing about, ensuring that every customer was welcome and taken care of. Best sandwich is Lexington hands down. If you haven't have a Rushmore, you need to. However, you can order anything on the menu with confidence, it'll be delicious. Dad is always there greeting you with a smile and I don't know how he remembers as many faces as he does.
