*Disclaimer: I came back to OBC Kitchen tonight with a group of friends after a couple of phenomenal meals here this summer. Unfortunately, tonight did not meet my expectations. I'll still give the restaurant 4 stars as 2 of my 3 experiences here were excellent. Ok! With that being said here is a combined review of my experiences here: During the summer months, when tomatoes are in season, the heirloom tomato salad with burrata cheese is among the best things I've ever eaten. Thick slices of juicy heirlooms are the base of the dish. With fresh squares of watermelon and a tower of burrata cheese resting on top this dish has the taste and presentation standard of a Michelin restaurant. Am I enticing you yet?? The appetizer is finished with crushed pistachios and basil chiffonade. Once I tasted that I knew I had found one of my favorite restaurants in Lexington. I have come back a couple of times with that dish calling my name. Now, we have approached the fall season and tomatoes are no longer a vegetable in fruition. I was disappointed to find the burrata replaced on the menu by a "lesser than" salad option. My experience tonight was alright. The chef was kind enough to adapt a vegetarian pasta for me, though it was underwhelming. Our server was kind, but seemed a bit in over his head. And the drink menu was fancy as always, yet when we requested adaptations we were met with salty remarks and disagreements. I enjoy a remarkable drink menu, though find it unenjoyable when the bartenders are too pretentious for my requests. I will be back to OBC as soon as the burrata makes its return to the menu. In the meanwhile, I recommend this restaurant for bourbon and meat lovers alike. Just be careful when requesting substitutions here. read more

Great Kentucky Bourbon Theme eatery with a southern vibe, great food and service with some awesome craft cocktails! Our choices were also suggestions by our fantastic server with a Irish authentic accent started us off with maple baked bacon appetizer with peanut sauce and Waygu Meatballs in Marinara. Now before you exclaim "ew" on the bacon and peanut sauce, got to tell you it was life changing good! The meatballs were amazing! Entrees were my selection was Coke Braised Beef with Grits( Coca Cola if your wondering ), my wife had Shrimp and Grits and Francois had the same. His wife Daniele had chicken and briskets. We tried OBC again. I remembered why we don't go here often. Food is fine, but not at the level of other similar priced places in Lexington. Great drinks, but the food is not reliably good. First off, if the food and drinks would have been crap, Shelby's service alone would have made the visit into a 5 star! Happily, the food and drinks were were also spectacular! We had Brussels, calamari, pork belly tacos and Cubanos, and for the finale donuts and crème brûlée . Drinks, no matter what you get, will be outstanding. So, this place is located as part of a reception hall. No doubt, a smart business move having an exceptionally well stocked bar attached to the venue. The restaurant has the ability to, move the wall so to speak, to incorporate more or less of the reception space. The day we went the restaurant side was scaled back pretty far and made it feel a little cramped. We got a late reservation and luckily got a table. It was a high top that sat 4. Thankfully we only had 3 because 1 chair was placed right in the kitchen's path. The biscuits and jam brought to the table were pretty tight. Honey butter is the only thing that I can think of that would have made the biscuits any better. The table got the Mac and cheese short ribs, the hot brown, and steak and eggs. The Mac and cheese with short ribs was dense, rich, and decadent. Exquisite. The hot brown was one of the best I've had, not that I am too well versed in hot browns, and my buddy finished his steak and eggs before I could get a bite. Staff was a bit overwhelmed when we arrived, but recovered nicely. The bar selection is extensive and great care was given to each of our drinks. Definitely was attentive, but not overbearing. read more

True taste of Kentucky--and we don't even drink bourbon. The rustic decor--reclaimed barn wood, brick, and stone--was evocative of the barrel rooms we visited on the Kentucky Bourbon Trail, and the food was phenomenal. Was in the area for a quick business trip and chose the restaurant for the high ratings. We arrived on a Tuesday night at 6:30 and was seated immediately. Like others, we were lucky enough to have Martha as our server. We had a nice friendly chat with her about growing up in Ireland as my husband also grew up there. Service was perfect with frequent check ins. She taught me how to drink bourbon by rubbing the orange peel around the glass rim and then sipping the liquor. We couldn't help but devour the freshly baked rolls and whipped butter. The jalapeño cornbread was served on a warm cast iron skillet. I had the potato crusted salmon on the arugula salad with citrus dressing. My dinner companions also raves over their meals. I will be returning to area in May and I hope to return for another meal. read more

If you're looking for a place for a good cocktail - this is it! Very modern, with iPad drink menus. They have over 100 bourbons (I didn't even know thee were that many). We were there during burger week which could have been part of the issue, but service was super slow. We sat for 10 minutes before anyone came to our table and my husband didn't get his cocktail until after the food arrived. Getting the check was another 10 minute ordeal. The menu items looked good and I look forward to trying this place again apart from Burger Week. read more

Make a reservation to ensure that you have a seat or you might end up waiting for few hours. Made a reservation but still took more than 15min to be seated. Ice water is provided in the waiting area. You can look through the menu with an iPad and this allows you to view a picture of all of their menu items. Everything looked good and it made me curious of their other menu items. Burger week burger was okay. It had smoky, sort of soy saucy flavor which tasted like bulgogi or galbi (Korean food)? Their fries are extremely thin and crispy, I wouldn't know what I'm eating if I had my eyes closed. If you love that tiny crisp part of fries you will love it. Noise level is on the high side. I felt like I had to shout a bit to talk to my friends across the table. Country music-not my favorite but fits well with their name. Prices one the high side. My husband and I went to OBC for our anniversary. The meal was delicious and the atmosphere is great. It wasn't the best meal we've had in Lexington but it was definitely good. If you're into bourbon, this is the spot for you. They have just about every bourbon you could ask for. They also have an iPad for your table that shows photos of exactly what your dish will look like. They also have craft cocktails that ranged in price. As far as price goes, this is definitely a once in awhile kind of meal considering our bill was over $100. read more

My friends and I went there for dinner tonight and had the best experience. Most of us got the halibut, one friend got the short rib tacos and one friend kale & quinoa salad with grilled chicken. We all loved our food and would definitely order again. We also got the meatballs as an appetizer which were wonderful. We got a few different drinks that were reasonable priced and were so good. We finished off our meal with the buttermilk donuts for dessert which were amazing! Our server Baylor was absolutely awesome! He was so fast with all our drinks and food and checked up on us regularly! Would 100% recommend to anyone looking for a great place for dinner and some drinks! We tried to go here on a Friday night. We were looked down upon, I guess because we weren't dressed nicely enough. We got asked if we had reservations. We didn't know we needed reservations, as we are from out of town. This was at 9 o clock, which was already late and should've been past prime time. They told us it would be a 45 minute wait. Came here for brunch with my girlfriends and we enjoyed the biscuits they put out for you. They were fresh and flaky server was friendly, knowledgeable and competent. I think they offer bottomless mimosas so if you feel frisky then there's that I had the savory chicken and waffles but would love to try the sweet version to compare. I've been to OBC a few times, and have enjoyed each visit! My most recent trip was last weekend for a dinner with some friends. The waitress showed us how to maneuver the ipad menu (so fun) and we ordered a variety of mixed drinks and wine. Their mixed drinks are seasonal, and are based on a theme. Although we debated on the bacon-in-a-glass appetizer, we decided to skip starters and order our entrees. I went with the kale salad with quinoa and salmon which was absolutely delicious. Everyone else was happy with their meals as well. Two friends split the steak and fries and had plenty of food- portions are pretty large. The waitress talked us into trying the doughnut dessert- no regrets there. As with all BGH restaurants, the hosts and waiters at OBC were so friendly and helpful. All in all it was such a fun night and a great atmosphere! OBC is a small space, so definitely call in advance to make a reservation. read more

I've been a few times as this place has been around for some time now and my opinions of it have improved over time. At this point I basically just stick to any dish of theirs that has short rib and go from there. It's a cool concept, and they have a stellar drinks program. There's an expansive bourbon list, though prices seem more geared for tourists than locals with a few hidden gems (barrel picks are usually a great way to get good deals). First, let me say we had the best Old Fashion drinks there. The Rock is AMAZING!! Drank at the bar. Both Ryan and Akim (spelling) were so knowledgeable regarding Bourbon. You HAVE TO have drinks there. We went back for my birthday dinner. The food is another story. I had the Seabass. While the fish was good, and served at the proper temperature, the bed of beans and greens it sat on were lukewarm at best. My husband had the Shrimp and Grits. Not only was it lukewarm, it had a film over it. I believe the film was because it sat around too long waiting to be served. We believe the food was served the way it was because there was a table of 25 next to us. We got our food shortly after they did. We think they were so busy getting their food out, that ours suffered. While we will DEFINITELY go back for drinks, not so sure we'd try the food again. read more

The drink selection is phenomenal. I loved the professor oak cocktail. Im typically a cocktail sweet drinks person but I wanted to try their bourbon because im in Kentucky. I thought the drink was good. Good mix of just plain good bourbon without being bitter. In fact slightly sweet drink. Big fan. The food was amazing. We did the the fried green tomatoes (yuuuummm). That whipped cheese ( I think it's gruyere) was a nice contrast to the fried tomatoes. We also got the wagyu beef burger (very juicy) with a side of fried potatoes. We asked for it extra crispy and it was bomb. I would recommend the beec to be medium rare vs medium. I think our burger was more on the medium well done. But it was still soft and juicy and sort of charbroiled. We also got the short rib tacos. Ive had better but it was also good. The cola marinaded short rib was a bit on the dryer end. Food came out within 5 minutes after being ordered, big red flag to me, and yet fried chicken was over cooked and stringy and tough. I think this is a crime in Kentucky to do such a poor job on fried chicken, either do it great or take it off the menu. It was not great but at least it was a tiny portion so you didn't gave to eat a lot if it. Everything was pricey, I would avoid this place. I guess it is just for bourbon drinkers. Brussels sprouts were ok but no saltiness to offset the sweet. I was out in Kentucky on a work trip and decided to stop by on the first night for dinner. The reviews said this place was good so I took that chance. Best decison of the trip if you ask me. I liked the setting of the restaurant. Wood finishes everywhere with the dim lighting. The seating feels intimate. I had the bacon burger cooked medium. That was a good dish. The patty was flavorful. Came with thick cut bacon. Served with pickles and fried potato slices. All of it was good. The pickles has this sweet savory taste. The potato slices seasoning was gooood. Might have been steak seasoning. And they had a crunch to them. Which tipped it off. I had a mixed drink that was made with smoke. Pretty cool to see and experience. I sat at the bar. Where you can see their large selection of bourbon and whiskey. Pretty impressive. Service was good and consistent. I was served by Clint. Decided to check out the OBC Kitchen while we were in town for the weekend after reading some of the reviews. This is a must stop for those who love bourbon and enjoy a signature cocktail. I ordered the purple haze which is Cabernet infused with cinnamon, orange and bourbon and served hot while my friend ordered smoke on the water, both were delicious and perfectly prepared by our bartender. We ordered the BBQ shrimp as an appetizer which we devoured. After going through the menu finally decided to order the halibut and the steak and cake. We finished every last bite. The food, the drinks, and the staff are amazing it's a must stop while in Lexington. read more

The best restaurant we've been too in Lexington. Great service. An iPad was left at our table that contained the entire menu with descriptions and pictures of everything. Beautiful decor, soft lighting and a large but respectful group of patrons. They stock over 650 different types of bourbon as well as signature drinks and a wide selection of craft beers. The bill was also very reasonable when compared to our experience. What's not to like. We will be back with a desire for more of what the OBC Kitchen has to offer. read more
