Great cocktails and tasty food. The cocktails are creative, carefully presented and tasty. The small plates are delicious. We particularly enjoyed the smoked salmon potato skins and crab dip. The staff is helpful and attentive. We will return! read more

A local resident recommended this restaurant so we decided to give it a try. I loved the atmosphere of this place. It was really intimate and cozy! Also Will was such an amazing waiter. He knew the menu very well, provided great suggestions, and was just so well mannered. He was awesome! We ordered the smoked salmon potato skins and the creole seafood gumbo as appetizers. Great choices and very delicious!! I will say the gumbo was a lil too heavy for an appetizer but if you are really hungry it would perfect. For my entree, I ordered the gnocchi bolognese. Veryyyyyy good!!! Although it did have a little spice to it and I'm not a fan of any spice, it wasn't enough for me to drop my fork haha. I also tried a few sides such as the ground stone grits, the smoked Mac & cheese, and the buttermilk jalapeño skillet cornbread. The grits were good! However the Mac & cheese and jalapeño cornbread were ehhhh not that tasty. No one at the table was a fan. Overall, I enjoyed the restaurant and was very happy besides the couple of sides. The restaurant atmosphere was great and I had an amazing waiter! Ask for Will! I will definitely give this restaurant another try. read more

Went here for the first time tonight. My wife and I enjoyed both the amazing food and the atmosphere. The staff was polite and highly attentive. She had scallop risotto and I had the cola braised prime rib both of which were fantastic. We also had the pork belly tacos, all I can say about those is simple, fantastic. The "you're despicable" drink was perfect. I could not recommend this place enough. read more

What a great experience! The waiter was friendly somewhat knowledgeable about the whiskey, and very attentive! The bar is AMAZING with a selection comparable to any bourbon bar in Kentucky, and the restaurant atmosphere is very nice (dress is still casual.) My daughter got the bottomless mimosas for $14 and my husband tried a few whiskeys. They offer their own "picks" for sale by the bottle, which is pretty awesome and of course rare for a restaurant. They had Russels, Knob Creek, and several other personally selected bottled barrels for sale. 5-star bar. We were there for brunch and ordered the smoked salmon plate, buttermilk donuts, crab cake Benedict, bacon in a glass, and hot crab dip. The food reviews between the three of us were varied. My husband thought the smoked salmon was a little slimy, but the taste was good. The herb cream cheese and capers were good, but the dark pumpernickel bread that it was served with was beyond crispy. It was almost stale crouton hard. It would hurt your teeth when you bit into it. I still enjoyed the flavor of the salmon and cream cheese, so I ate on the bread that accompanied the crab dip. The crab cake Benedict was severed with fried green tomatoes, a well-cooked poached egg, and hollandaise. There wasn't quite enough sauce and it would have been good with an English muffin (which my daughter thought it was served with, but we didn't check.) The hot crab dip was good with toasted bread crumbs on top and chunks of real crab. I was the only one to like the cinnamon sugar donut holes with icing, but I thought they were perfectly cooked and cake-like. The bacon in a glass is baked in bourbon honey glaze, which was quite tasty in parts of each piece. It seemed to be a little inconsistent over the whole strip of bacon. Needless to say, we like to try a bunch and share the first time we go to a place. The food is good, but not excellent. They are definitely more gourmet/upscale, but the flavor profiles and combinations just seem to be off or not consistent on each dish. The bar is fantastic! And we would go back and try the food again too. Great place and atmosphere! read more

*Disclaimer: I came back to OBC Kitchen tonight with a group of friends after a couple of phenomenal meals here this summer. Unfortunately, tonight did not meet my expectations. I'll still give the restaurant 4 stars as 2 of my 3 experiences here were excellent. Ok! With that being said here is a combined review of my experiences here: During the summer months, when tomatoes are in season, the heirloom tomato salad with burrata cheese is among the best things I've ever eaten. Thick slices of juicy heirlooms are the base of the dish. With fresh squares of watermelon and a tower of burrata cheese resting on top this dish has the taste and presentation standard of a Michelin restaurant. Am I enticing you yet?? The appetizer is finished with crushed pistachios and basil chiffonade. Once I tasted that I knew I had found one of my favorite restaurants in Lexington. I have come back a couple of times with that dish calling my name. Now, we have approached the fall season and tomatoes are no longer a vegetable in fruition. I was disappointed to find the burrata replaced on the menu by a "lesser than" salad option. My experience tonight was alright. The chef was kind enough to adapt a vegetarian pasta for me, though it was underwhelming. Our server was kind, but seemed a bit in over his head. And the drink menu was fancy as always, yet when we requested adaptations we were met with salty remarks and disagreements. I enjoy a remarkable drink menu, though find it unenjoyable when the bartenders are too pretentious for my requests. I will be back to OBC as soon as the burrata makes its return to the menu. In the meanwhile, I recommend this restaurant for bourbon and meat lovers alike. Just be careful when requesting substitutions here. read more

The service here is outstanding; the manager insisted that we get appetizers on the house because we had to wait 15-20 minutes past our reservation, and our waiter was extremely friendly and knowledgeable. The food was delicious! We ordered waygu meatballs and Thai calamari; which was phenomenal. I ordered the Kale and Quinoa salad with grilled salmon; at first glance, it seems kind of basic but it was extremely flavorful and filling. 10/10 read more

Ordered online and it was ready on time, it was fabulously prepared, the hostess was friendly helpful and grabbed our order within 2 minutes. Food was AMAZING, so good that we forgot to take pics. We order shrimp and grits and the shrimp gnocchi. I had a few special requests like sauce on side etc and they followed them all. Shrimp and grits were a great GF option as I am allergic and my SO said they gnocchis were very tasty too. This would be a do-over for sure!!! read more

I've been now several times to OBC and enjoyed dinner and brunch. Every time I go I'm impressed. Friendly, welcoming service in a fantastic setting and, of course, awesome food and cocktails. Standout entrees include the shrimp and grits and the crab and asparagus omelet. Full of flavor and cooked perfectly. Their grits are SO good. Amazing cocktails! Seasonally, they launch a new theme and create all kinds of fun and delicious boozy creations. Reservations needed. This is the kind of place to sit and savor a great meal, not a place to go if you're in a rush. read more

Had birthday dinner this evening with my family. It was delicious to say the least. So hard to choose but we all shared what we had so it was all good. The service was good but very busy so waited a bit but worth the wait. A bit loud for my one of our crew but it didn't bother me. Definitely would return and please order the short ribs, or the sea bass. Perfection! Good drinks also. read more

True taste of Kentucky--and we don't even drink bourbon. The rustic decor--reclaimed barn wood, brick, and stone--was evocative of the barrel rooms we visited on the Kentucky Bourbon Trail, and the food was phenomenal. We were tucked in a cozy booth behind the hostess station, and our friendly server, Martha, checked back frequently. All around enjoyable and memorable experience. Highly recommended. read more

Was in the area for a quick business trip and chose the restaurant for the high ratings. We arrived on a Tuesday night at 6:30 and was seated immediately. Like others, we were lucky enough to have Martha as our server. We had a nice friendly chat with her about growing up in Ireland as my husband also grew up there. Service was perfect with frequent check ins. She taught me how to drink bourbon by rubbing the orange peel around the glass rim and then sipping the liquor. We couldn't help but devour the freshly baked rolls and whipped butter. The jalapeño cornbread was served on a warm cast iron skillet. I had the potato crusted salmon on the arugula salad with citrus dressing. My dinner companions also raves over their meals. I will be returning to area in May and I hope to return for another meal. read more

If you're looking for a place for a good cocktail - this is it! Very modern, with iPad drink menus. They have over 100 bourbons (I didn't even know thee were that many). We were there during burger week which could have been part of the issue, but service was super slow. We sat for 10 minutes before anyone came to our table and my husband didn't get his cocktail until after the food arrived. Getting the check was another 10 minute ordeal. The menu items looked good and I look forward to trying this place again apart from Burger Week. read more

Make a reservation to ensure that you have a seat or you might end up waiting for few hours. Made a reservation but still took more than 15min to be seated. Ice water is provided in the waiting area. You can look through the menu with an iPad and this allows you to view a picture of all of their menu items. Everything looked good and it made me curious of their other menu items. Burger week burger was okay. It had smoky, sort of soy saucy flavor which tasted like bulgogi or galbi (Korean food)? Their fries are extremely thin and crispy, I wouldn't know what I'm eating if I had my eyes closed. If you love that tiny crisp part of fries you will love it. Noise level is on the high side. I felt like I had to shout a bit to talk to my friends across the table. Country music-not my favorite but fits well with their name. Prices one the high side. Overall, love their attention to detail and presentation. Food looks amazing but prices high. Must be worth it since it's always filled with people? I will come back again read more

My husband and I went to OBC for our anniversary. The meal was delicious and the atmosphere is great. It wasn't the best meal we've had in Lexington but it was definitely good. If you're into bourbon, this is the spot for you. They have just about every bourbon you could ask for. They also have an iPad for your table that shows photos of exactly what your dish will look like. They also have craft cocktails that ranged in price. As far as price goes, this is definitely a once in awhile kind of meal considering our bill was over $100. read more

So, this place is located as part of a reception hall. No doubt, a smart business move having an exceptionally well stocked bar attached to the venue. The restaurant has the ability to, move the wall so to speak, to incorporate more or less of the reception space. The day we went the restaurant side was scaled back pretty far and made it feel a little cramped. We got a late reservation and luckily got a table. It was a high top that sat 4. Thankfully we only had 3 because 1 chair was placed right in the kitchen's path. The biscuits and jam brought to the table were pretty tight. Honey butter is the only thing that I can think of that would have made the biscuits any better. The table got the Mac and cheese short ribs, the hot brown, and steak and eggs. The Mac and cheese with short ribs was dense, rich, and decadent. Exquisite. The hot brown was one of the best I've had, not that I am too well versed in hot browns, and my buddy finished his steak and eggs before I could get a bite. Staff was a bit overwhelmed when we arrived, but recovered nicely. The bar selection is extensive and great care was given to each of our drinks. Definitely was attentive, but not overbearing. read more

Our first visit. My typical thoughts are, it's too expensive. We are eating outside in the golden light realizing our dishes could have been photographed for the menu. We tried to go here on a Friday night. We were looked down upon, I guess because we weren't dressed nicely enough. We got asked if we had reservations. We didn't know we needed reservations, as we are from out of town. This was at 9 o clock, which was already late and should've been past prime time. They told us it would be a 45 minute wait. I'm diabetic and my blood sugar was dropping. We finally just left and got something else. And they NEVER did let us know that our table was ready. I was so excited to try this place. Came here for brunch with my girlfriends and we enjoyed the biscuits they put out for you. They were fresh and flaky server was friendly, knowledgeable and competent. I think they offer bottomless mimosas so if you feel frisky then there's that I had the savory chicken and waffles but would love to try the sweet version to compare. I took one star because the bathrooms were gross and my food wasn't *that* hot when it came out. All in all, would recommend but maybe hold your pee until you get home read more

I've been to OBC a few times, and have enjoyed each visit! My most recent trip was last weekend for a dinner with some friends. The waitress showed us how to maneuver the ipad menu (so fun) and we ordered a variety of mixed drinks and wine. Their mixed drinks are seasonal, and are based on a theme. Although we debated on the bacon-in-a-glass appetizer, we decided to skip starters and order our entrees. I went with the kale salad with quinoa and salmon which was absolutely delicious. Everyone else was happy with their meals as well. Two friends split the steak and fries and had plenty of food- portions are pretty large. The waitress talked us into trying the doughnut dessert- no regrets there. As with all BGH restaurants, the hosts and waiters at OBC were so friendly and helpful. All in all it was such a fun night and a great atmosphere! OBC is a small space, so definitely call in advance to make a reservation. read more

Great Kentucky Bourbon Theme eatery with a southern vibe, great food and service with some awesome craft cocktails! Our choices were also suggestions by our fantastic server with a Irish authentic accent started us off with maple baked bacon appetizer with peanut sauce and Waygu Meatballs in Marinara. Now before you exclaim "ew" on the bacon and peanut sauce, got to tell you it was life changing good! The meatballs were amazing! Entrees were my selection was Coke Braised Beef with Grits( Coca Cola if your wondering ), my wife had Shrimp and Grits and Francois had the same. His wife Daniele had chicken and briskets. We tried OBC again. I remembered why we don't go here often. Food is fine, but not at the level of other similar priced places in Lexington. Great drinks, but the food is not reliably good. Decided to check out the OBC Kitchen while we were in town for the weekend after reading some of the reviews. This is a must stop for those who love bourbon and enjoy a signature cocktail. I ordered the purple haze which is Cabernet infused with cinnamon, orange and bourbon and served hot while my friend ordered smoke on the water, both were delicious and perfectly prepared by our bartender. A little pricey but the food and service is great! If you are in town you need to check them out! Definitely worth the hype!

The ambiance, service and food is top notch. My fiancé and I love the bacon and peanut butter sauce appetizer.

After plenty of hype my wife and I decided to make our first visit to OBC Kitchen. Walking in the atmosphere was very cool, great job with the "bourbon country" vibes. Also our server was very friendly and attentive. Unfortunately, that's where I stopped being impressed. My first issue was the lack of draft beers, and then once I attempted to order a canned craft beer I was informed that they hadn't stocked the one I selected from the menu in over two years. Very disappointing. Going in I had very high hopes for the food, seeing as the kitchen is shared with the almighty Malone's. I ordered the shrimp gnocchi, which had good flavor despite the gnocchis being too chewy. My main qualm is the relatively small portion for the price of the dish. I expected more for what I paid. My wife was happy with her shrimp and grits and content with her cocktail as well. Overall there are just a few faults that could be fixed, but considering the price I don't believe I will be visiting again. I would rather pay slightly more for Malone's or 735 Cole's and take the next-level food quality. read more

My friends and I went there for dinner tonight and had the best experience. Most of us got the halibut, one friend got the short rib tacos and one friend kale & quinoa salad with grilled chicken. We all loved our food and would definitely order again. We also got the meatballs as an appetizer which were wonderful. We got a few different drinks that were reasonable priced and were so good. We finished off our meal with the buttermilk donuts for dessert which were amazing! Our server Baylor was absolutely awesome! He was so fast with all our drinks and food and checked up on us regularly! Would 100% recommend to anyone looking for a great place for dinner and some drinks! Ambience of the restaurant was really cool also! read more

This place can make great food. Try the stack salad, short rib tacos, and the hanger steak (all pictured). I shared a stack salad, so the one pictured is actually half the normal portion. This salad is fantastic. It is honestly one of the best salads I've ever had. The short rib tacos...wow. They are so tasty and flavorful. I strongly recommend. The hanger steak is quite good also. Very good quality. But if you're looking for flavor, go with the short rib tacos. They can't be beaten. I'd give this place five stars easy on the quality of the food. The ambiance, especially at night, is also quite peaceful and pleasant. Unfortunately, on the night I was there, they had just stained some of their wood. The smell was overpowering, and it unfortunately ruined the experience to be honest. But, I'm sure the smell will be gone before you get over there. So, definitely plan to stop and try the stack salad and tacos. You won't be disappointed! read more
