Offering beers on tap. by the 4-pack, 6-pack, or single bottles, the Trappe has something for most any true beer lover. Beers from across America combine with import beers in every style made in breweries around the world. They have bartenders who are knowledgeable on the beers they sell, with Kevin Patterson, their Cicerone, a veritable encyclopedia on beer- from styles to breweries to the brewing process itself. He teaches a Beer School class weekly, with information on a given style in a casual and informative beer tasting, and the theme changes every week. They generally offer draft by many of the finest breweries in the country. They also regularly have special release tappings, always announced beforehand on Facebook. Seating includes several stools at the bar, with table for small groups, and a couch and chairs for more comfortable, leisurely talk and enjoying your beer. In addition, they have tvs for sports fans and special events involving reps from various breweries and/or special releases of rare beers. They offer a discount on mix 6-packs you can mix and match yourself from their bottle inventory. I've found numerous good to fantastic beers there which I'd never seen or heard of before. I can now recommend far more beers to others per the style(s) they like. This place is my favorite spot to wind down after any kind of day! I can come here for celebratory causes with a group of friends, after a long day at work, or honestly when I'm feeling down and need a good mood spike! This is the place if you're a beer drinker! If you happen to come in while Kevin is working, just know he is hands down the best bartender in all of Lexington in regards to beer. He's a certified Cicerone which proves he's an expert in all areas of anything that has to do with beer. He's never led me in a wrong direction when it comes to what I enjoy. Even if he's not there, the staff is a pleasure to work with and will always take care of you. Why 4 stars? Because this appears to be the best beer selection in Lexington. --- --- --- One of my favorite things to do when visiting a new town is to try out the local beer spots. The Beer Trappe was VERY crowded on a Monday night, which I was surprised by. I assume it's because there aren't many places like it in the area... it's where all the beer enthusiasts land. I spent a long time deciding on what I wanted, and I went with the ole reliable Great Lakes Christmas Ale from Cleveland. I also tried some kind of special release for that evening... I wish I could remember what it was called, but it was something to do with Bourbon. I enjoyed it, despite not liking Bourbon itself. I would definitely hit up the Beer Trappe again... but next time I'd try to head over earlier, and hoping it's slightly less packed. read more

I love this place. They always have an excellent selection of beers on tap and their bottle selection is better than the liquor stores in town. They get some keg and bottle releases before the other stores do and you can always count on them to have special events for big releases. They have a cellar list that is huge and goes back for years. Most of the beer tenders know their stuff and can give you recommendations for a variety of styles you might like. This is the greatest "beer trap" in Central Kentucky! One of my favorite things about this place is that it is locally owned! And, all the bartenders know everything there is to know about beer. There is a HUGE selection on the "beer wall" & it is all craft beer... You won't find any fakes here! Love this place! If you love a wide variety of craft beers from a variety of brewers, then this is the place for you! Always friendly staff, make you feel like a regular even on your first visit. The only drawback is that sometimes my cell service isn't that great inside but they have some seating outside so not as big of a deal on the nice weather days. They also host a beer school and other special events.I really love the fact that the(PPP) price per pour isn't too high. I typically spend about $5-7 a glass. Parking is a bit of an issue as it is not as convenient on busy times for the area (use street parking) . read more

I have been here a few times now and am quite a fan. I love beer or as I call it on occasions "Juice". This place is like a Beer Lovers Mecca. They have a lot of taps and rotate the beer after every keg. That is really impressive. They also have a wall of coolers filled with bottled beer and a Wall O Beer as well. It is Beer Beer Beer and I love it. The staff are hit or miss. Some are chatty and some are just there to get a check. The will enlighten you on any beer when you ask though. That is always a nice thing. They had my favorite beer of all time on tap the first time I popped into here. The best beer ever is La Fin Du Monde by Unibroue. It was such an awsome day and getting this beer on tap makes it all the better. There are a few places to sit/stand here both inside and out. It tends to get crowded rather quickly. Went here during a visit to Lexington. They offer both bar service and also have shelves where you can purchase canned/bottles craft beers. Due to covid, I only came to buy from the store. They had a fantastic selection of craft beers. I intended to make a six-pack but ended with seven. They don't mind if it doesn't make an even number. We were looking for a place for Belgian beer, found the Beer Trappe on Yelp. It was in a nice neighborhood away from the downtown area Lexington. The bar was filled with racks of beer from all over but a good majority were Belgian. We enjoyed a few beer they were much more reasonably priced than in DC. But this time and only having 1 other person in the place the guys sat on the counter and talked with each other. The Beer Trappe has found a neat little niche as a club house of sorts for Lexington beer cognoscenti, and does it well. They offer a medium-sized decently-curated selection of quality beers on tap and in bottles, for consumption on premises or for unopened take-away. All the usual suspects are here (rejoice Chimay fans) as well as interesting selections from local brewers. My only quibbles are that they don't have a great selection of sour beer or European dry ciders, and that they don't really serve food, but I can respect both decisions. There are other food options on the block if you need something to take the edge off of the alcohol, as well as a nearby Kroger. The Beer Trappe is definitely a valued part of the Lexington scene, and I hope they become successful enough to open another location with a full gastropub kitchen. Quirky recommendation: if you like banana bread, try the Well's Banana Bread beer, which the Beer Trappe has in bottles. I don't normally like novelty beers, but this one is worth trying once (probably because I absolutely adore banana bread). read more

They do only have like 8 taps, however when one runs out, it is replaced by the time you need your next beer. They do have a good selection of bottles to choose from behind the bar (they'll even get something cold for you for your next beer), not to mention a take-home refrigerated section (corkage fee applies if drinking it there). We were lucky enough to score the couch and chairs in front while we enjoyed our beers. They do have like two tables available outside the front doors. Great for pub-style atmosphere. Good beer, comfortable seats, and a friendly bartender that carries a conversation. Great spot to have a beer if you're waiting for a table at Bourbon 'n' Toulouse next door to open. They have the usual tv and music, but it's not too loud. You can easily have a conversation with your date here, without a bunch of college-bar garbage to listen to. All in all, I'd say getting some food from B&T next door, then some beers here, and maybe some stronger drinks from Charlie Brown's across the street is pretty good for date night. There are some bars/ live music clubs just up the street (Best Friends Bar, Cosmic Charlies) you can easily walk to if your date wants a live show. Parking is limited on Euclid, but the side streets usually have a space without a parking meter. read more

Loooooooove it! This place is for the pure beer afficianado. There is no food, and very little that is mainstream, beer wise. The taps rotate with high frequency (follow them on facebook to know what's been tapped last), and if you don't like what's on tap, they have a whole wall (a whole frickin' walll!!) of quality bottles to chose from as well. So, why not 5 stars? Well, it's small and often packed. So it gets loud. There is no seating except at the bar, I think a chair and a couch inside, and two tables outside. There are a coupel barrels which peple can stand around. It's not really their fault (refer back to the small size of the place), but the atmosphere can really detract from enjoying a good pint when the place gets full, and it gets noisy. Normally, I don't care about that, but it interferes with me ordering another wonderful new pint! If you like beer, go here. Hands down. If you like trying new beers, then why are you not here already?! They have a sampler of all 8 taps for I think around 10 bucks. It's a good way to try everything. There's really no where else to go if you're looking for craft beer. The variety, knowledgeable staff and sheer volume of craft beer around the nation is incredible. Inside boasts a warm but dim atmosphere that allows you to relax and enjoy something tasty on tap. They do have some snacks they serve but you can also order food from a local food truck if you get hungry.
