I decided to try this place out tonight as I live nearby and love barbecue. The flavor of the food was great however the meat was way too cold for BBQ. I informed the staff they should turn the hot boxes storing the food up as the barbecue sauce and sides were warmer than the meat. I was very respectful about it and said I don't need to replace my food as I will go home and heat it up on my grill. However, I wanted to let them know for the next customers to come. They blew me off and said have a good night... first and last time I will be eating there. Not how you should treat customers or serve food. I was in the area and was really craving some good barbeque so I decided to try Oak'd out. I was blown away, the food quality and the service was phenomenal. I got a 2 meat plate as well as one of their burgers and the quantity of food was more than enough. The brisket was super tender and nice and smokey. I was asked if I wanted my burger with "everything on it" and of course I can't say no to that. The burger came out absolutely stacked. It had the standard patty, but was also served with a half link of sausage as well as the delicious candied bacon on top. I'll definitely be back for more. read more

So, to be fair this place is new and finding quality staff is difficult. There was no bartender and a guy in an apron just poured a full glass of a batched, hot margarita mix into a glass. No ice. No lime. It was probably 3 margaritas worth of booze (I know, why he mad on an over serve but it was painful to drink). One guy who really seems to care a lot who was also doing the slicing of the proteins came and saw it, was irritated as he should be about it and fixed it. That gentleman is the highlight of the whole experience. He should be promoted and given a raise. On to the food... to be honest the food was good. The problem? Everything was cold. I simply leave this review to say you should definitely try it and remember they are just starting out. Be kind, and I hope with growth this place gets better and finds the right people (like the wonderful gentleman who made the experience good) to ensure hot food and quality drinks. Was looking for a place to grab a quick bite to eat and saw that a new BBQ joint had popped up in my area. Looked at the Yelp profile and seemed promising, what a major let down. First off when you walk in they have a huge menu on the wall, was not greeted when I walked in. There was a random chair in the walk way and there was a large group looking over the menu so I had to figure out how I was going to get by. I see the bar to my right when I walked in and that's where I wanted to sit down but there is a sign that says "order here" so I asked the guy at the counter if I order there if I'm going to be sitting at the bar which he replied "no you can go straight to the bar and order there". I get to the bar and grab a seat, and wait for the bartender to come over. Looking over the menu and happy hour menu (which runs until 7PM which is awesome) I decided on a 1/2 pound for pork ribs and a side of 3 blend Mac n Cheese. When I received my plate of food I was kind of thrown off by the extreme amount of "smoke" that is on the ribs. These ribs were not smoked but burnt to a crisp, i understand that a half pound of pork ribs is a small portion but this was ridiculous. Out of the 3 ribs I received with my order only one of them had an type of pork on them that was edible. One of the ribs was so badly burnt... not smoked but burnt it was all char. $11.99 for a half pound of charred burnt pork ribs. Now for the 3 blend man n cheese which is a $4.00 side item on the menu. This lacked any type of flavor at all, I'm shocked with how afraid people are to salt their noodle. This was the blandest 3 blend mac n cheese I've ever had. I tasted more of the garnish than the actual cheese, it looked tasty but it was a bust. And here we are at the bbq sauce, I don't base any places bbq off the bbq sauce but this was a sad excuse for sauce whatsoever at anyone's bbq joint. I'm pretty sure this was Kraft's original BBQ sauce. They have a huge dining area and the bar's happy hour are the only things they have going for them right now. If they can't even get smoking some ribs or Mac n cheese right they need to get back to the drawing board. read more

The worst tasting BBQ I've had in Dallas, maybe anywhere. I was very surprised to see positive reviews. The pork burnt ends were dry, and the wagyu Brisket was mostly fat and not in a good way. They just didn't trim it properly. I love fatty meats but this was mostly inedible. Also lacked flavor. The macaroni salad and potato salad tasted like nothing at all. The bbq beans were the only thing with any flavor, they were decent. Wasted $80 for 2 people (1 lb wagyu brisket, 1/4 lb burnt ends, 3 small sides). There are so many better places nearby. read more

In the BBQ desert of North Dallas, this place stands out. First, my turkey sandwich had TONS of turkey. They did not skimp on meat, and I loved the brioche bun! The sides were also massive--I recommend sharing. The Brussels Sprouts were incredible. I could have had a whole meal of just that. I've eaten at OAK'D a few times now and unfortunately, the service is never consistent enough for me to rank it above a 4-star. It is a newer restaurant so there's the possibility that they're still trying to figure out staffing etc. but, at this point, it's been over 6 months so I'd expect a more consistent experience. Now staffing aside: when OAK'D is on, they're on! There's a tall butcher who cuts the meat and will confidently inform you which portion is the best for what you're hoping to gain (taste, texture, flavor, etc.). He'll walk you through what he's cutting, why, and give suggestions on enhancements like sides and sauces based on your cut of meat. It's this level of service and care that initially sold me on the OAK'D experience. The restaurant offers a wide variety of sides and even desserts, making this an appealing stop for families and larger parties. There's also a VERY impressive outdoor space that would be nice come tailgate season. If they could figure out staffing so that the experience of the rest of the staff followed suit with that of the butcher and the cashier (speed, knowledge of the product, hospitality, etc.) this would be an unstoppable restaurant. read more

I came to Oak'd for lunch as I've recently relocated to Dallas and have been seeking the best BBQ. I must say , I have not been impressed thus far but OAK'D certainly raised the bar. Firstly , even single person in the venue is delightful and you can feel the pride / culture management has created - it makes a difference ! 2nd , the space is low key yet cool BBQ style which was nice. Lastly and most important the food ! I had a combo platter which the "butcher" helped me decide on ( very helpful as mentioned). I ended up going with the brisket and the chicken with veggie sides. Tender , tasteful BUT not over seasoned which is what I have found in many places thus far - Food was banging as well as the sides and the sauces were spot on and not excessive . 3 .5 stars for the meat. 4.5 stars for everything else. I looked into the story of the chef here, because Ive never seen so much craft and attention to sides or desserts at a BBQ joint like here. Apparently Michael Lane wasn't always a pit master, but decided he wanted more focus on everything that sits around a plate of meat. I think he exceeded, but I do wish the meat was better. Its good, but it could be better. I cant put my finger on it, but ts not as orgasmic as I usually hope for. The Mac and cheese is creamy! It's not a baked casserole but rather the more liquid consistency you get from kraft, but much more souped up. When it cools down, it becomes thicker and covers the mouth like a thin wax. This was quite enjoyable. The brussel sprouts were my favorite item. I was flabbergasted by how well these were prepared. The dressing, roasted texture, and whole almonds really make this stand out. This may sound strange, but it had this savory, shrimpy flavor that I enjoyed immensely. Maybe they add fish sauce to the mix, but this may be some of the best brussel sprouts Ive had outside of any fine dining. The ribs were not bad, but the mealy rub they have on top was quite distracting. Otherwise a decent pork taste where the meat has some pull rather than fall off the bone ( the way it should be) The brisket is pretty good. This is where I felt the smoke doesn't stand out as much. Some pieces were just right. Some bites the fat could have been rendered more. It has a great Texas style rub, although there's not much of a bark from the slices I received. The desserts are quite appealing, especially in its presentation and variety. I didn't want to commit to anything big, so I went with a cookie. The cookie had huge, coarse flakes of sea salt, along with scrumptious chocolate chips. The cookie itself was fairly soft yet dense. Meat was served from a heating cabinet wrapped in plastic. Still, it was moist. Under seasoned meat. Slaw was crisp. Ambience was that of an empty restaurant at lunch time. We love coming to Oak'd! My husband makes us come just for the Wagyu brisket. He says it's the BEST brisket he's everrr had. He says it's worth paying the extra $$ for some quality brisket. I personally loveeee the fries. Turkey is very good from here too, compared to other places in which the turkey is usually dry. The customer service is top notch especially when one first walks in and the person cutting the meats is your first friendly face you see. Ambiance is comforting and chill. The great service begins at the main menu board as you walk in to your left. It indicates which of the options are available. Then the star of the show is meat carver! Super portions and melt in your mouth meat is provided! (He built me a huge brisket sandwich that was the best I've ever had, seriously!) Next up is the person serving up the sides. I was going to pass as I had a baked potato, but the mixed vegetables looked good and what a smart decision! The green beans, squash, bell pepper mix is absolutely the best! So full of flavor! I thought about skipping dessert until I saw the whiskey chess pie. Oh how decadent! Absolutely a destination dessert! The noise level was pleasant inside despite being somewhat full. The music is live with the artist playing out on the patio. This is where to bring a bunch so all can enjoy exceptionally great food. Price is very reasonable for the quality. I came to OAK'D for dessert. The bbq was good. The sides were better. So back to dessert. A slice of the key lime was featured in a local magazine. I ordered a slice to go with my dine in meal. The slice of key lime pie was tiny. Just be aware that the servings you see in pics or on display may not be the same size served. The positive is that it helps with the portion control when you may have a out of control sweet tooth. I heard that their biscuits are incredible. Easy 5 stars. My first visit. The ENTIRE menu looked good. I asked for an opinion on the difference between the wagyu brisket and the prime brisket and got exactly the type of answer I was looking for that helped with my decision. Ask for yourself and see what they have to say! Mill helped me out and after realizing it was my first time, asked me if I wanted to sample the burnt ends b/c I had a question about them. They have brisket and pork rib burnt ends, and I got to try both. Both were incredible, my mouth is actually watering right now thinking back on them and on the entire experience. Mill was super helpful and I ended up with just over a pound of meat in total. The brisket was top notch. I love bbq, love brisket, and really only go to bbq spots for the meat. Sides are fine and all, but I can make sides, I can get sides where I live, but I CANNOT get this kind of bbq where I live, so I always do a little extra when on vacation and in search of bbq. The sauces were good, but I can always do without sauce. They have water cups to help wash everything down, but if you want a fountain drink, sweet tea or lemonade, they have all of that as well. I didn't get any sides or desserts (the desserts looked GREAT!) but they do let you choose your style of pickles, dill, sweet, or hot, and you can get pickled or raw onions and raw or pickled jalapenos. Very nice options and they are all included. The prices were great (call if you want to know the exact prices, b/c they change based on market) for the quality of meat that you get. I didn't get the pork ribs, but I was still in hog heaven. Plenty of seating indoor and outdoor, lots of TVs for sports, full bar with good selection of both domestic and craft beers. Really nice bathroom. Parking lot in front with free parking. HH is EVERYDAY from 3-7 or 4-7. There is an awesome deal of a burger and draft beer for $10. You simply cannot beat that, especially since the burger was amazing. Bacon, cheese, all the fixins, it was great. If I wasn't being rushed, I would have also got some fries and a draft beer and the fries come with brisket on them! Draft beers are $3 during HH.
