Was very excited to try this place because the food look delicious when I was searching for somewhere to eat while staying in Laguna Beach. It was a perfect day and we decided to head over as the sun was setting. We got a table outside with a perfect view. My only complaint about this place was the service or the lack there of. We sat for quite a while before the server came to take our drink order. Then we waited a long while for our drinks. Our server was pretty much MIA. An older gentleman which I'm guessing was the manager did come and check on us a few times which I really did appreciate Otherwise it would've been a totally negative experience and the rating would've been a lot lower. Unfortunately, service didn't improve from there. Our server didn't seem familiar with the menu at all, which was surprising. A lot of "I don't know" and "I'm not sure" came up, and that's never confidence-building when you're ordering. The mac and cheese was a miss--so runny it honestly could've been served with a straw. Texture matters. What stood out (and not in a good way) was management presence. The manager seemed to reserve conversation and attention for who I'm guessing were regulars. A little table-touching goes a long way, especially for first-timers--which we were... and also last-timers. A simple check-in could've changed the tone of the experience and the guy almost overcharged us for a drink that we ordered but never received which is the ONLY time the manager came over to CONFIRM we didn't get the drink then they went to the bartender to point to our table I guess to make sure we weren't trying to get over on a drink when we just spent over $100 on trash service and subpar food. In general Mid Afternoon Date on a Friday and the place started out kinda slow which was fine because we got to hand select our seats which were right at the curve and directly in-front of the ocean. You couldn't ask for better seats. The waiter engaged in some healthy banter which helped take the edge off and also assisted with the food and beverage selections with his personal choices (which were amazing!!) The Good - not sure what whisky drink I had with a foam top but it was delicious!!! Like next level good. I ended up having 2 of them through out my 4 hours there. The date went well!!. Food selections did not disappoint either I got the friend chicken sandwich and it was simply delicious. Service was prompt and consistent waiters were good and the overall value was there for me. Our bill was very reasonable for what we had within the time we were there. The Bad: I really have nothing bad to say about Oak accept I wish they would have caught my attention sooner. This is not a drawback but for me it was a bit cumbersome and difficult to find the entrance from their parking garage because there is some construction happening, but again nothing to do with the restaurant. Very disappointing Mother's Day experience. The restaurant was clearly understaffed and completely disorganized, but instead of handling it professionally, staff came across as dismissive. 45 minutes to get our first round of drinks and an appetizer. Came for some late night bites and a drink. They have some outside bar seating that was nice to get a view and some fresh air at the end of the day. I had the ahi tuna tacos and the sweet and spicy ribs. The tacos were fresh and flavorful, the jicama was a nice added crunch. The ribs were small but you got a pretty nice size stack. Juicy and fell off the bone easily with a fork and knife if you're not looking to dive in. The drinks were tasty I had the lemon and lavender martini and pineapple vibes cocktails. The martini was a bit on the sweet side, good but the meringue topping had some added sweetness. The pineapple vibes was a good balance of a spicy sweet combo. Overall good but a little on the pricey side. It is also pretty far down on south coast so I would say it's more of a destination that there isn't much to do in the area after you eat. If I could rate this place ten stars I would. My family and I had reservations to Oak on Easter Sunday. Of course the place was busy but it didn't deter the quality of food or service at all. We were a large party and here are some of the highlights. FOOD Ahi Tuna Tacos: WOW. Hands down everyones favorite appetizer. Super fresh, light, with bright flavors. Perfect for a hot day, or any day really. Sweet and Spicy Ribs: Lets just say they were gone in a minute, we devoured these clean off the bones Ceviche: Similar to the tacos in that it hit the spot, light, fresh, lots of shrimp with the surprising but delightful sweet flavors of mango. Chilaquiles: This was BOMB. Super flavorful and well balanced. We ordered it with a side of pickled onion to give it a little extra- highly recommend. Mushroom Burger: warning, you'll need lots of napkins because it's super juicy, seasoned well with a thick patty, and the perfect combination of caramelized onions, mushrooms, and melted cheese. Chicken and Waffles: Both chicken and waffles were crispy. The chicken also maintained juiciness. This was another popular dish at our table. Coconut Butter Cake: GET THIS TRUST ME. Unfortunately my wife and I will never go back to Oak for happy hour or any other meal ever again. Our last visit was awful. We sat at the bar and were ignored by the bartenders. We were never welcomed, asked if we wanted menus or when we finally did shout to get their attention to order food were not given a place setting or silverware. One bartender just stood in one place complaining that she had to make mixers or something. We were never asked if we wanted another drink and when I asked for salt, I was again ignored for close to five minutes and my food got cold. Whatever is going on with the place has to change. I would start by firing the two lazy bartenders who seem to be more concerned with making mixers and talking to waiters than actually engage with customers sitting right in front of them to ask if they want or need anything. The waiters kept checking up on us. Beautiful view and they have heaters outside which was a nice plus. However, when it came time to pay the bill, we noticed they charged us for a split fee for splitting the burger in half. It came as a surprise to us since it was never mentioned by the waiter and left a bad taste in our mouth at the end of our dinner. This is only our second time here, however, our first time was at least a couple of years ago! Not sure why we didn't come back sooner. Came for happy hour, which we didn't know is only at the bar. Bar is always fun, though! For cocktails, I tried Lagunarita (tequila based) and Brah Berry (Vodka based). I enjoyed both, but enjoyed Lagunarita more, while my husband liked Brah Berry more. He had the burger, since it's happy hour, it's probably while it's a tad smaller than regular burger, but definitely bigger than a slider. He enjoyed it! We both loved the ahi tacos...they were fresh and refreshing! The pepperoni flat bread was yummy too! Service was definitely good! Venus was nice and attentive. Ambience was causal, bright and airy. We were greeted very warmly by Darwin who also helped me on the phone with the reservations couple days prior! So, if you're hoping to catch the beautiful California Sunset, there's a good chance you can do that from their patio. They have ample parking available in the garage underneath the building. They also validate, so it won't cost you a dime. The decor has a clean modern feel. We sat at the bar to enjoy their Happy Hour. Definitely worth stopping in! Gorgeous view of the ocean and a great place for a family gathering! I just got married, and my husband and I chose Oak restaurant for our families to meet for the first time. The restaurant owner and the staff were so kind and accommodating for our table of 18 people. They had a high chair and booster seats ready for the three kids in our party, and the table they set up was classy and beautiful, and we loved the stunning view of the Pacific just across the street! They opened the patio so we had a nice breeze coming in as well. They validate parking in a structure right below the restaurant, which is nice since street parking gets crowded especially during the summer. We went for lunch and everyone enjoyed the wine, cocktails and food! I had the crab cake Benedict and it was delicious and my husband loved his sirloin. The calamari and ceviche appetizers were so fresh and delicious. Everyone inhaled their food and drinks, and then we went across the street to take photos by the ocean afterwards. Overall this restaurant is perfect for a lunch date with family or friends- reasonably priced and located across the street from Laguna beach. Go up the stairs next to Gina's to access. Drinks- 4.5/5 We tried a variety of cocktails and martinis which were perfect in flavor and balance of alcohol to additives (purées or sweeteners). They also have a secret menu from their IG where you can get additional cocktails depending on the server Food- 4/5 Perfect portions, packed with flavor this did not disappoint especially with the variety we got. The skillet is small but very dense and the pesto is delicious here too. The oak burger was so filling and massive but could have used a touch more seasoning. Make sure to get the garlic truffle fries, a simple classic but so tasty. The desserts are also good but the vanilla ice cream had an extra flavor that differed from most vanilla ice cream that wasn't as complimentary as it should be. Service- 4/5 Our waitress was great, so kind and did a great job at placing our ordered and remembering our drink profiles. I do wish the food runner/assitant refilled our water a little more frequently during our visit, as we had to ask once or twice. The Oak is a fantastic restaurant. I've been a few times, the first my sister and I came and sat outside on the patio and enjoyed margaritas, and their appetizers. Inside is a moody, relaxed vibe perfect for a date! Outside on the patio is more laid back, and there's a great view of the beach and you can people watch. The second time I visited last week my friend and I just dropped in for cocktails before dinner. I had one of their signature cocktails and it was so tart! It was a berry vodka drink, my friend had a dirty martini with blue cheese olives. We both enjoyed our drinks (they were strong!) Make sure to call an Uber so you can relax. Great place for a meet up, date, girls night out, celebrate etc. up some stairs, and you'll easily see it on the corner. My main course was the shrimp tacos and my husband got the sea bass. To me the tacos were ok, $19 for 3 shrimp tacos seemed kinda high considering I didn't think they were that good. My husband got the sea bass which was about $45, he liked it, I think it lacked some seasoning. What really won me over tho was their clam chowder. Filled with lots of clams and packed with flavor but had an extra creamy cheesy flavor. Even my kid loved it. Another thing that won me over was their calamari, it was breaded perfectly not too thick with the batter and it came with a nice slaw that balanced it all out. They also served it drizzled with siracha aoli that was super bomb and I suggest asking for extra on the side. My kids ordered from the kids meals, the fries were a good amount and they were well seasoned steak fries that we all shared lol the chicken nuggets were too fancy for my kids tasting but they liked the plain buttered pasta. We also tried the donuts and ice cream. The donuts were made fresh but it tasted a little too doughy for me, the ice cream had some graham topping that my kids loved. Interesting slightly upscale restaurant in South Laguna. Walked in for dinner at 6.20 on a random Wednesday. Had our pick of tables in the restaurant. Not too many people there so we sat in a table that was on the border between outside/inside. We could see the water from our table. For appetizers we weren't feeling too hungry so we skipped and figured we'd just order mains (good call). Drinks I got a Tequila Sour. The server asked what tequila preference I had? I went with Don Julio Blanco. My girlfriend went with the Spicy Margarita. My Tequila Sour was alight. Just a standard tequila sour with sweetness, a little sour, and the slight taste of Don Julio. It was a decent pour and I felt slightly tired at the end of the drink (par for the course for me). The Spicy Margarita my girlfriend got was alright as well. Nothing to write home about, Tajin rim with a decent margarita mixture inside. I drank it and it wasn't as nice as the Marg's in South of Nick's but good enough to drink on a warm summer day. Foodwise main's we ordered were Chicken Parmesan and Fettucine Alfredo with Chicken. Both dishes were alright at best. The flavors, size, or the color plating didn't necessarily wow us.
